  • In this video I show you how to replace the engine (motor mounts) and transmission mounts on your BMW E90 330i. The car shown in the video is a 2006 BMW 330i with the N52 engine. This DIY is similar for other e90 models. I would recommend Corteco brand engine mounts and Lemforder brand transmission mounts.
    Check out this video for why/when you should replace mounts:

    Absolute best video for doing this job. Skips all the BS and tells you the most direct route with the minimal amount of effort required. Been looking for a video exactly on this topic and this is the most complete. Mounts came out with very little effort. Did this on Jack stands with this video. Thanks for a great DIY.

      Hi @distrohouse1, I am also looking to do this on my car with jack stands and engine support bar.
      How did you go about doing the step at 8:44? Do you use a floor jack under the oil pan?

    • @distrohouse1
      @distrohouse1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup, floor jack will get it done and give you the control you want. Just be careful on the placement.

    Thank you very much, I was able to change all 4 mounts on my E90 328i in a 4hr window. One thing that happened to me is that when I lifted the motor the upper radiator hose broke near the oil filter assembly, just something to consider for any DIYers with high mileage cars, my car has 160k miles on it. $25 gates replacement hose solved the small issue.

    I would like to give this guy a credit for making such clean and easy DIY video for E90 owners! Many of previous DIY instruction i have read is misleading and cost extra work. I see you jack up the oil pan and taken off both mount once it for all. Wonder is it really necessary for to put the cross bar on top of engine bay , as far as i can see , the engine stays pretty from once you jack up from the pan. Great Job! Appreciated it. !!!

    @ShopLifeTV: have you ever had a chance to diagnose (or experience) in BMW with manual transmission (E60 530i in my case), clunk sound and a little jerk WHILE pressing clutch pedal all down at low gears? There is no any other symptomps from drivetrain e.g. at high speed or when changing gears.. everything works OK, apart from that one issue. I'm sick of it in city traffic when you need to play a lot with braking and changing gears at low speed and low gears. I replaced clutch with flywheel but it did not change anything. I think that the same issue causing a small clunk when hit suddenly on brake pedal - clunk happens just before car is starting to brake.

    When I tried to break my passenger side mount nut loose, that mfr broke loose like a gun going off. Made my ear ring. That and the lower bolts for my mounts have tiny bit of corrosion on them and as such they are really bound up trying to remove them. They spin well until it gets to the upper portion on the bolt that protrudes out of the top of the mount. Damn corrosion.

    They do make stiffer versions of those... are they worth it? Also, when do those usually fail? 100k?

    • @ShopLifeTV
      @ShopLifeTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would not recommend poly mounts or other stiffer aftermarket options for primarily street cars. Usually fail at 100k depending on driving conditions

    Man I got a 2002 325ci that's not wanting to shift into any gear until the car is completely warmed up then when you drive for 2 or 3 minutes it starts shifting perfect again does that sound like the master cylinder, slave cylinder, or a worn out clutch completely?

    Eh, I think I would lift the engine on each side and do one side at a time. I would never lift a block via the oil pan and potentially deform it even slightly. Clearly it can be done but maybe warn people about the potential for damage as any impact on you oil pick up could be catastrophic for the bottom and top end.
    Good clarity and details.

    Is there actually any BMW engines that are good engines that have been made that want coat a fortune for parts

    • @houseofno
      @houseofno 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on what you're looking for. If it were myself, I would go for BMW's original M code engines. These were made from the 1960s through the 90s.
      These are not going to make huge power numbers by modern standards but are reliable and easy to service. The M10, M20, M30, M42/M44, M50/M52/M54, M60/M62, and M70/M73 are my personal favorites.
