So many of my concerns addressed here. Thank you. I replaced all rear suspension components except for the seat links and Traction bars. Now I know to change the traction bars. Also now know that my driver side B6 strut is shot bc it is leaking.

110k miles in an area with plenty of potholes and all I've needed to replace is the rear shocks. Lower shock mounts were completely shot, so definitely worth replacing those and everything else the FCP mounting kit comes with.

I have an f30 but like you said rear is a 5 link design, they look pretty similar. I have massive toe-angle changes at the rear if I hit any sort of road imperfections. On my e46 would immediately suspect bad RTABs. I'm assuming on the f30 it's bad roll-over strut and lower wishbone as they have ball-joints that attach to the wheel hub. Can I replace just the balljoints or do I have to fit new arms?

This is great! I don't have the opportunity to do much diy on my car so this is nice to see what s under there.
My e90 makes a slight ticking noise that *sounds* like its coming from the trans area but I can't really tell. It's only under acceleration though, plus no error codes. Any ideas?
Great video! Much needed content for all e9X owners. Great point on the spring compressor with the Sachs dampers. 3:11 Using a rental spring compressor is a nightmare! I went through it all just to have my one of the Sachs dampers leak only a couple months after installing them. I definitely recommend going with Bilstein given the better performance/installation.

My 335 struts was the most horrible strut job i ever did. Even took them NTB, mechanic tried for couple mins and gave up , wasn't risking his life
geo745don Yeah, I wouldn’t get the struts for that reason alone. The fact that one is already leaking is all the more reason to go with Bilstein. More people need to know this.
@@evanupshur yeah I got the blistens, usrd nylonn straps to tie Springs down, with spring compressor, lowered care to help seat to tighten nut, big headache, my car has factory sport suspension makes it worst I guess
@@geo745don There are special tools for the shocks with in-built rebound springs. For example Laser Tools 5790.
It will pull the shock out to maximum length so you can install the spring with a normal spring compressor.

you might have just diagnosed the dreded vibration under braking 🔥 after two sets of new disks and pads i was loosing hope 🙈 I'll be installing the m3 upgraded parts and 🤞 that solves it + improves handling. Top class content - subscribed 👌
Are your feeling the vibration through the seat and pedal or through the steering wheel ? I've had the car a week (2006 320d Touring) and noticed vibration through seat and pedal under braking, but a check on brake roller does show fluctuation on off-side rear disc.
@@scarletturk3892 definitely fell it under the pedal and the seat but it also radiates to my wheel (just slightly) Had it before after winter lockdown, so changed all discs and pads - it was gone for a bit but after few weeks started to progressively come back. I know the hubs rust on bmws and that's also causing vibration under braking...
What tool are you using to change the bushings and ball joints (on the trailing arms and on the lower roll over struts) on the rear suspension, is there some special BMW-designed bushing removal/puller/pusher or you're using whatever no name bushing removal kit... and can you make a video of tips and tricks when it's time to repair the rear suspension. Nice video. I have a doubt about rear suspension arms. i got an e92 and it shakes a looot when braking. I´ve change the all 4 discs with pads but the car still doing the same. Tires are brand new. Could the rear arms be causing this? i´ve checked front arms but they are all okay.
Damn, wish I would have known about the option to use M3 parts on my rear wheel drive e90. I just finished replacing all of the front control arms. I had steering wheel shake while braking and that solved it. Had my rear struts leak like crazy at 120k miles. Sitting at 140k now and have the original front struts still. Thanks for making the videos and being a great place to buy parts from.

I have an 07 E93 and was wondering if M3 rear parts would swap. It just seems ti me like the E93 is the stepchild to the Ex chassis and alot of websites say part doesnt fit you model. All I know is I have some extra bracing due to it being a vert. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the vids, thay are very helpful 👍👍
On my left side I hear a clicking/popping metallic sound. My front right spring broke so I now have the car lowered on coilovers.

Recently picked up a 131k mile 08' 328i coupe. BMW dealer did a complimentary inspection when doing the PCV recall. Dealer stated only the rear brakes needed attention . However IMO driving the 280 mile trek home from purchase the front suspension seemed soft/spongy. Even bottomed out on the HWY in IL after a normal bump. What direction should I go? Other than that this car is amazing.

What I'd like to see is how to mod standard E92 seats so that they can go a little bit lower.
I've seen forum threads, but for me not clear enough to undertake myself.
Seats need to go out and then make is so that when you move the seat lower with the button, it will go lower than stock. Remove or re position bump stops perhaps I'm tall so I could use the head space. Then I can trackday with a helmet. It's mandatory for autocross in the Netherlands
I have a 2011 E90 328i that has a shaking under braking issue. The steering wheel shakes like crazy when braking from 50+ mph. However, the car does not shake when driving or cornering. I've taken the car up to 116 mph and just chilled there for a solid 5-6 minutes....the car is incredibly smooth and no shaking at all. What could cause the shaking under braking? All 4 rotors and pad are brand new, under 5k miles on them.
Hi Gareth I have a bmw 335d ,2010 model I noticed on the rear of the car only on 1 side that the wheel would catch on the wheel arch when I went over a bump or have passengers in the rear of the car, so I had rear shocks and coil springs fitted on both sides, I still have the same problem with it catching on 1 side any other ideas what it could be? Great video. Suspension components are so vital to the driving characteristics any car. Can you explain or compare the suspension and what gives BMWs the driving characteristics and experience we come to enjoy. Compare a standard car vs the M versions.

So I am stuck right now where my esentric bolt is stuck in the bushing in the bushings in the subframe thats connected to the contrl arm that the spring sits in ( car is a 09 e92 335 xdrive ) I am thinking of cutting the bolt but then I don't understand how a bushings removal kit is gonna fit

Awesome channel and video. I have also an E92 with some suspension problems. If i'm driving with some speed on a bumpy road i hear all kind of knocking. I've chanced the anti-roller link but it does the same noise. Could be from the shocks ? Thank you !
Alexandru it really could be a myriad of problems, suspension clunks can vary, end links were certainly the cheapest easiest and most common to start at, unfortunate that didn't solve it. Checkout our recent Front end refresh DIY you may find some additional info helpful in there as we diagnose as well as install a bunch of parts that could be your e92s problem.

my wifes 1 series keeps losing the back end on slow corners and roundabouts, what component would usually cause that.? It drives in a good straight line. so far changed struts on the rear and front.

Hi, Ben! Wheel shaking could be number of things, from unbalanced wheels to worn suspension parts or wheel bearings. It's best to get the car up in the air with the wheels off and have a look at everything!

So I have a 2011 335xi w/ "M Sport" suspension ~70k miles and everything is fine for the most part. My only problem is that when I hit bumps sometimes, especially if it's mid turn, it will feel like the back end is sliding out a bit. The car recently had the drivers side front tire replaced not too long ago and I wonder if they did the alignment correctly. I heard another variable is my rear tire pressure which I'm going to check tomorrow. Possibly rear shocks too?
One thing to add would be that sometimes when I'm going about 70+ the steering wheel and car a little will start to shake a tiny bit. Some say im being extra picky but I think something is up and I want it to go away. Tires have even wear btw.
Took it to one shop and they told me to do the rear subframe bushings but another shop went in there with a pry bar and had no clue what the original shop was talking about. Needless to say, a little torn!
Refreshing the rear subframe bushing is most likely what you're feeling. A good upgrade for you would be to go to the M3/1M subframe bushings. They have stiffer axial, radial and conical rates resulting in a more planted feeling to the rear axle. If you are interested, I have a pair already installed into a subframe I could sell. It would make for an easy installation for your mechanic.
A quick note...the "internal rebound damper, essentially a bump stop" discussed in the Sachs strut is actually a rebound spring. It's used in the strut to control large body motions and improve on center steering response. It's worth differeniating as it is a function of displacement opposed to velocity.

Great video! I’ve got a e60 528ix that just recently broke a front coil spring. I’ve order springs struts and upper mounts for front. But now I’m considering doing the springs and shocks and upper mounts in the back what do you think about that? The springs look pretty bad rusted and nasty. That’s how the front looked and it broke (cracked). Also I’m wondering if the rear spring is the same as the rwd drive model e60’s. Really appreciate FCP euros work on these videos. Recently ordered my parts from one of your guys that helped me find coil springs for the front that were 1/3 of the price of oem. Thanks again!

So it will never hurt to refresh all 4 corners of your suspension at the same time, especially if your noticing similar symptoms/characteristics of recently failed parts. If you have the means to do it, I'm sure you and your car wouldn't be disappointing by the refresh. I see quite a bit of Lamforder part as factory fitted. Do you find quite a bit of difference in factory fitted Lamforder quality vs OEM Lamforders as you'd use as replacement? And what about Sachs shock?
Cause, my recent purchase of Lamforder engine mounts are way too soft. They can't even hold the engine properly resulting in rubbing and vibration. Some of them get compressed bad enough in just a few months it's visibly noticeable that the engine is too closed to the mount. And they don't carry any warranty from factory from what I'm told.
As for Sachs shocks, my mechanic said that there is quality differences between Original and OEM even though they're both Sachs made. What can you tell me about this?
Hi Alsofzico, glad you like the video! In some cases, OEM parts have improvements made over the factory design. We have had great luck with Sachs and they are also an OE supplier for many manufactures. The good news is that anything you buy from us has a lifetime replacement guarantee, so if anything ever fails or wears out you can send it back for a free replacement!
I am having a "ticking" sound from the rear left when i start to move, it doesn't always happen, I will jack it on Tuesday and see if i find sth, any idea why ? I dont know if it is the control arm
I have a problem with the car shaking VERY bad only when it's cold. It feels like little jumps that increseases violenlty and exponentially with each jump.
Only occurs on 1st gear as i let go the clutch, what could it be? It's a 320i N43B20
Suspension is good (recently changed the oil and checked it), clutch feels fine when im driving above 2nd gear, and at idle the car is ok, no hesitation, misfires, etc.
So I missed if there is an upgrade part for the rear trailing arms or are they meant to be kept weak to absorb lateral impacts to the wheel?
If I'm not mistaken there is a billet aluminum rear trailing arm
You say 35.000 to 40.000 miles is the life expectancy on a strut, then I should be happy that I managed to get more than 250.000 miles out of the strut's in my E61 525d from 2007, before the left spring cracked and I decided to replace springs and shocks.

Sounds like the rear end suspension is all the same on rwd and xdrive cars, so the rear could have M3 arms installed

Put b12 pro kit + new tie rod ends + new sway bar links on my e90. The car has completely changed. You think your e90 handles well until you get these changed. Mine was on 140k miles before I swapped the parts out. Now I can take corners that used to feel sketchy at 60mph comfortably at 80mph. Completely different car. I would highly recommend to anyone to do this. If you do the work yourself it’ll cost you around 900. But have a blow torch and a lot of patience at the ready.
Hi I recently changed my front right wheel speed sensor for abs I jacked up only one side of the car and I started hearing a noise as I was jacking it up on one side .. it felt like because I was only jacking up one side the driver side got bent in or something in some way? I kept going and changed and replaced the wheel speed sensor and than put the tire back on.. now when i am driving and accelerating .. as soon as I reach 80mph or above I hear a knocking noise from the front end of my car and I feel it in the but as soon as I let off the gas and from 80 and I reach 75-70 mph the knocking noise stops but when I get to 80 mph or above it starts knocking again . I feel it coming from the front end of the car and underneath the foot gas pedal .. can anyone please help me?
Great video. My e91 330 has a problem in hard left cornering, there is a thumping or deep sounding clunk noise in the front right? that sounds like "trrrrrrrr". I changed the shocks (they were really bad), changed all 4 arms in the front, and the sound is still there, only when hard left-cornering, there is no sound in the right corners. Any ideas?
Hi Domzy, if they were not already, the mounts for the struts can cause noise unless those were replaced, along with the sway bar end links.
@@fcpeuro Replaced the strut tops too, didnt mention that sorry. Ill be ordering sway bar links, bushings and tie rods as well just for the sake of it.
So none of the M parts will fit on an E90 328xi?
Anyone know how many miles I can drive with bad shocks? I drive a 323i..the drive is kinda bumpy and making noise in the back passenger side
E90 335d I’m getting nasty vibration during braking and pulling to one side when braking. Almost like the rotors are warped and they are new.
This can happen from improper brake bedding-in procedure, or possibly sticking brake calipers. However, if the rotors are in-fact warped and you purchased them from us we would be happy to replace them for you!
Just had my struts installed in my 2011 bmw 328 xdrive and I get off work on my stressful drive home and every lil bump I hear rattling inside the car on the dashboard I hate driving the car now my 2002 Honda Accord I can hit a big as pot hole and you don’t even feel it the bmw u hit a pot hole feels like u lost the whole front end

QUESTION! I have an xDrive e92 335i, Im looking on FCP euro at the REAR control arm kit for the M3 that has about 5 control arm parts in the bundle that comes in the kit, and this video only compares a set (2) of OEM ones to the m3 ones. were those missed in the video or does the xDrive not have all of the rear M3 components?
What I mean is the 335i xDrive shows a 4 piece rear control arm kit that is (REAR UPPER) which includes wishbone x2, control arm A, control arm B.
and the M3 kit has a 10 piece control arm kit. that has a wishbone, guide arm, and toe arm arms.
Hope that makes sense. What im ultimately asking is if i purchased the M3 10 piece control arm kit for my e92 xDrive 335i, would ALL of the parts in the 10 piece control arm kit bolt up to my car since you said the rears are ultimately the same?

@@ltdasilva93 and @Artur I just got off the phone to verify with our BMW Catalog Manager, and indeed the REAR M3 Upgrade kit would be valid for a non RWD / XDrive car. Great video! I've been doing a lot of research on what part I need from you guys to fix a suspension issue. I have a knocking sound when turning the steering wheel at low speeds below 15mph and a good amount of steering play/roaming at highway speeds. I tried tightening the lower steering column bolt but it only worked temporarily. What could this be due to?

My tie rods were shot. A lot of play on an uneven road..
@@muumuumu Yeah the tie rods can become quickly old and tired. We just posted an E9X front end suspension refresh DIY and the tie rods weren't the primary issue but still in desperate need of a refresh!
