Bought my truck new on 07. 2500 5.9 quad laramie 4x4. I put the original amp steps on in 2009 and have been running them ever since with no trouble until this past year. (The same steps. No repairs. No upgrades.) Currently 260k miles. First issue I had was the wires in the door harness broke. Now the passenger side step stopped working. After 12 years I'd say I got my money out of them.
Had them on my 17 Z71 for over two years. Zero issues. I just ordered another set for my Duramax. I am super excited!!! Awesome review sir. Thanks for sharing!!! God Bless America by the way. OBD2 splitters work just fine (-:
Thank you! Great review. I’m in. Got that old man King Ranch. Best ride I’ve had in a truck. Kinda glad to graduate to old with more comfortable rides. Told myself I needed these first! Lol
I build custom trucks and I live in Cincinnati Ohio so we have a lot of freezing wet and freezing weather from October to May. I personally am happy that AMP came out with the extreme steps because I have had two sets of AMP basic power steps and in my climate alone because I build show trucks more so and never go off-road and the two sets I had only lasted 2 years and had to replace the motor because they leaked and ruined the motors. I used spitters on my ob2 port with no problem but my current truck this time I didn’t go with AMP this time because of the price extreme XL price is crazy! I have a 9” lift with 38x 15.50r24 wheel and tires. I went with a off-road extreme from Rough Country for less than half the cost of AMP extreme. I would never go with a factory set either I have been there and done that too! When Ford or Chevy add custom built trucks like Rocky Ridge they also don’t use their factory powered steps they use AMP. I do not recommend AMP FOR THE COST FOR THE EXTREME!
Great information. especially about the obd port and the switch you have on the console. One of my concerns was about being able to disable them in certain settings. Thank you for sharing this information.
Great review. I have the AMPs on my 2017 Denali. I LOVE them. My truck has been through mud, ice, deep snow, and sand with zero extend or retraction problems. I doubled the lights (bought extra kit) which really helps when loading at night.
Good reviews! You answered a lot of my questions about snow, icing and AZ mud! I live in AZ and go off roading so dust and mud was a concern, and then Icing up when we are in snow country. My wife has a disability and it has progressed so I need to change the steps on my truck to something that drops lower so she can more easily get in and out. I think the XL is going to be perfect. Thank you again for the long term review!
I recently ordered the set for the 2007 Gen2 Tundra… for my 2004 Gen1 Tundra I knew they aren’t meant for my year going into it, I’m working with a local fabricator to make an adapter plate so they will be in the correct orientation. Im excited to get the whole thing set up, hopefully sooner than later; good to know that there *~shouldn’t~* be any significant issues in the long run Gen1 Tundra isn’t exactly a tall step into in the first place, but I’m short and am about to slap a 4 1/2” suspension lift on him, so with that kit installed, these steps will make things a little better than they were before any lift was applied Looking forward to it
Hey Dan, I bought the power steps after seeing your video, they are perfect, gives my truck a lot cleaner look.Curious, what size wheels and tires are you running on that truck, I have a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. Thanks
We live in a very mountainous area of north central WA state, 5 miles from town on a private road that we have to plow and maintain ourselves. We get 5-7 feet of snow every winter, so I am looking for a product that won't let me (us) down.
We have a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road. It has factory running boards, but they are right up against the bottom of the cab of the truck. They're kind of worthless. We are looking at a running board that is lower to the ground and then tucks up against the rocker panels when driving. I am NOT mechanically inclined at all so I would need someone to install them for me
listen.... im a technician... all i do is 12v audio and accessories..... Please.... PLEAAAASE slide those steps forward afew inches... my ocd is killin meon this video lol
I don’t know why they don’t make for my 2002 Tacoma but I wonder if I could just take an 05 version and just weld it to the brackets that are installed for the rails that are too high from me to use with my disability, I could slide out, but need help, climbing in
I don't want to use the OBDII port because it's sloppy and I don't daisy chain aftermarket plugs direct to my ECU. I'm curious is there is a way to use the factory wiring harness.
You could have ordered steps for a crew cab and use a chop saw with a blade for aluminum (it has more teeth) that will cut them down without chipping them.
Not sure which part you’re talking about but the front door was either still propped open or I intentionally put my foot on the step while the door closed to keep it from closing.
Hi. Do your power running boards come down further/lower than the factory style chrome running boards? I have a 4" lift on my truck and the wife finds it too high getting in the truck now because she's short lol. Thanks.
Also, I don’t get products for free. I have customers and friends use Rough Country power steps for off-road use and with their extreme power steps no issues. On my 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 high country I think I paid $1,500 for the extreme with 2 motors guaranteed not to leak. AMP WANTED OVER $2500. Check off-road message boards you will learn what holds up. Just trying to save people money and trouble that I went through….
@@hphillips7425 I was looking at those myself. Was mainly worried about how low they come down. Think it would be alright though seen another 392XR that had them.
@@danielmiller4354 I have them on a 250 4x4 king ranch diesel with a 6” lift on 37’s It was a big step up on the original running boards now the spacing is perfect.
Great, but what about a 4wd truck where the steps are really needed? My truck has a 24 inch space between the cab bottom and ground. Those 6 inches really aren't going to help much. I need something that goes much lower and ideally lifts the person up to the cab.
@@GearsGadgets There is a company, Startracks, that makes a motorized lift that looks like the AMP and it goes all the way to the ground and will lift a person to cab level if they want. I called them but unfortunately they charge $13K !! Since I broke my knee I can no longer get into the cab of my truck. Are you kidding or should I be google searching for elevator truck steps?
Have them on my mega cab and I will say these are my go to steps , but I absolutely have have nothing but problems with these !! They pop and bang and the finish on them is absolutely terrible!! They definitely aren’t making them like they use to !!
@Brandon H That stupid sound is the dumbest thing Ford ever did. Even though I own a silverado, I really am not a Ford vs Chevy guy, but damn does that sound tilt me everytime I get into a Ford.
I’ve had the original steps on my truck for 14 years…just now needing to replace the motor…GREAT PRODUCT
Was it hard to fix the motor. I gotta fix mine and was wondering if I could do it myself

I’m so installing these on my 02’ f150!

Happy I could help. The AMP Powersteps really present a good solid step to get in.
I love my extremes

Solid Content.
Good vid! I have been debating for a while. I am definitely getting them now. Thanx!
Wow these look very nice. I just wish they had led lights on the side for night time use.
do you have a video of the over ride switch install in the console?

The switch in the cig lighter power port is the bomb. How did you secure it in the port??
Yes, how did you?
Have you heard anything on the power XL series and how they look when raised up?
I don't want to use the OBDII port because it's sloppy and I don't daisy chain aftermarket plugs direct to my ECU. I'm curious is there is a way to use the factory wiring harness.
Yup.
@@rl2769 hi
I have them on my jeep and the drivers side is stuck. Can I get some trouble shoot?
You could have ordered steps for a crew cab and use a chop saw with a blade for aluminum (it has more teeth) that will cut them down without chipping them.
Can you add the 2 additional motors to the original?
Why didn't the step go back up when you closed the rear door?

great video..will these work on a 2016 jeep grand cherokee limited?
Great video... quick question, how much amps does the power running used?
Is it possible to install this switch with the base model AMP Steps??
Do you boards close hard or sound as if they're hitting the underbody?
Mine are noisy when retracted and clunk when motion stops.
Where can I go to have them installed?
They stick in cold weather, I have the regular model don’t see myself buying the Extreme model
Good Friday video.
Thanks Marty!!
How much do they cost?
What's the difference between the first generation boards and the 'extreme' version?
Regular nasic has only one motor and extreme has two motors per step .
Are you still in Buffalo? I’m going to order these for my truck. Absolutely love the manually switch for car wash.

He did mentioned that’s why he got those.they go lower than the factory ones.
I believe AMP make steps for trucks with lift kits that comes down even lower but they cost extra
Where do you buy the switch you added to lock them down?
You can get them from RealTruck which is where I bought mine. imp.i128439.net/BXYbj4
