Ricardo Hidalgo you can disconnect them but they won’t work disconnected. It’s really easy to unplug it if you need to access the OBD2 but for the most part you just leave them plugged in and forget about it.
You would have to check here: m-amp-research.biz/Mobile/Portal/Default.aspx I am not 100% sure. You may need to look more toward a handicap van outfitter for something like that if AMP doesn’t have them for your van.
One torque wrench in inch lbs, and one in foot lbs?? Was it the range that necessitated 2 torque wrenches? (That’s my guess) If not the range, then just do the conversion and save a few bucks.
I put a set of the original "Bestop" brand on my 2010 ram when I bought it new. The first winter they started having so many problems, went through 3 motors, steps would hang and not go back up. Finally ripped them of after 2 yesrs and threw them out. Someone mentioned to me recently you disconnect them on the winter. Anyone else have these problems?
My followup. I got a call from the dealer and said my truck was ready. When I opened the door I saw the name on them was AMP: I sure hope they don't go out of control again! That would tear up the gears in the motor unit. Another thing when they hooked the wires to the battery the positive battery protector cab won't fit. When I close the hook the naked 12volt terminal is close to the hood.

I wouldn’t rely on them as rock sliders, they do tuck up tight but I wouldn’t want to be dragging them frequently as they are aluminum and would probably get pretty twisted.
That's what my wife keeps telling me. 😂😂😂 First I bought too big of tires for my truck because I wanted big tires then I got a 6 inch lift because my tires were rubbing and I didn't want to cut my truck up and now I need these steps because the truck is so tall. It never ends.

Yes I do expect 10 years at $1500 I’m tired of things I buy being disposable, make it to last. A nice aluminum gears are that much more to put your name on it.
Gene Branson why in the world would you demand aluminum gears? These steps have 0 lbs of load on them in motion, while fully extended and body weight is on them, the solid aluminum arms hold 100% of the weight, if the doors are closed and someone is standing on the boards, it senses it and terminates the closing process thus eliminating the gears lifting any weight. Honestly over engineering and adding huge costs to products for the 1% of the nitpickers to alienate 99% of potential buyers is arguably the dumbest business decision one could make.
Gene Branson nothing stopping you from starting up your own high end running board company with heavy duty motors capable of lifting 350lbs, billet aluminum gears, and NASA-427 aluminum alloy boards. Good luck staying in business selling those bad boys.
Gene Branson or the other option is you could just buy what’s on the market and deal with it or not and move on. No sense screaming from the sidelines that you have a better way of you aren’t willing to jump in the game.

@@GearsGadgets Way too dim for my liking, and apparently it's somewhat of a common complaint as I read the reviews. I just found some short, 6-8 LED waterproof "strip" lights on Amazon. Very flat, the "COB" or Chip on Board LED style. Was literally $10 for a set of 4. amazon.com/gp/product/B087Q4KG95/
Just ordered a set yesterday for my F250. Can't wait! Go BILLS!!!
I came to these comments just to say that I noticed that rather nice looking headgear he was sporting...lol
Sorry for the super late reply Chris Brewton. I appreciate that you stopped by the channel and apologize for not responding WAY sooner. Go Bills!!
Can these go on a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder SL?
No
So most of the mounting is done to the lower rocker? Bummer, in northern states we don't have rockers very long.
Do they have a pinch protection?
Yes they do. They will stop if anything gets in their way. That’s actually how I lock them down to wash them is just put my foot on them and close the door which then locks them down when it senses pressure it just stops.
@@GearsGadgets so if you were to buy your hand or fingers there it'll stop itself?
I've had my gf close the door on me when we were washing my truck and yea, wasn't pretty. So just trying to see if won't smash my hand if I were to have it there
I want it how to order it
Link in vid description
Do they hold up in snow
mud and or under water?
I haven't had any issues in any of those scenarios. Under water seems a bit extreme though.
They stopped working on my 2018 GMC Denali. Is it a fuse problem
Hmm interesting. I’m not sure
Does anyone use these in the cold like if I wanted to put these on my truck in Minnesota where it’s gotten up to like -6 for the high all last week I guess the worst thing that could happen would be them freezing up.
I used mine in Buffalo NY for a while and they were fine.
must they be permanently connected? on OBD2 ?
Ricardo Hidalgo you can disconnect them but they won’t work disconnected. It’s really easy to unplug it if you need to access the OBD2 but for the most part you just leave them plugged in and forget about it.
@@GearsGadgets some people use the port for other stuff. I have a cts monitor that uses the port. Any other way around that?
Great question so is there a way around it. I need to plug my BANKS idash into this too. But my Amp is plug into this. Pls. Help???
@@apr9286 they make OBD2 splitters so you can connect 2 things at once
So what if something is already plugged into the ODB
You can get a splitter off amazon for a few bucks.
I have a programmer connected to my obdII. How can i make these steps work with out removing the programmer?
I would probably try a splitter like this: amzn.to/2VymtFs
I haven't had to try it so let me know if it works.
Gears & Gadgets motor
Hi, how much would this installation cost?
I couldn't tell you, depends on the shop and I have never priced it because I DIY everything.
Wish this could be a factory option for all major auto manufactures...
Agree
Wondering if this will fit my 2004 Chevy avalanche?
I am not sure, you would have to check their fitment website.
Is there a reason why AMP doesn’t make this product for the Honda Ridgeline??
Because hondas are for pussies maybe??
Eewww I wouldn’t even make parts for those if I owned a company lol
They only make them for TRUCKS
These are for TRUCKS.
I just dont think it would sell well for a ridgeline.
Impossible for installation for toyota highlander ?
I wouldnt put them on a highlander
Do they work on vans ??????
You would have to check here: m-amp-research.biz/Mobile/Portal/Default.aspx
I am not 100% sure. You may need to look more toward a handicap van outfitter for something like that if AMP doesn’t have them for your van.
Seriously! They don’t make a step that will fit without chop sawing it???
You could just leave it long
One torque wrench in inch lbs, and one in foot lbs?? Was it the range that necessitated 2 torque wrenches? (That’s my guess) If not the range, then just do the conversion and save a few bucks.
2 wrenches with different ranges.
Gears & Gadgets .....good to know. Thank you
How long it takes you to install them?
Only a few hours. It's pretty straight forward.
Thank you Matt Fischer. I have not heard of that.
My followup.
I got a call from the dealer and said my truck was ready. When I opened the door I saw the name on them was AMP:
I sure hope they don't go out of control again! That would tear up the gears in the motor unit.
Another thing when they hooked the wires to the battery the positive battery protector cab won't fit.
When I close the hook the naked 12volt terminal is close to the hood.
Hmmm Thanks for updating. I appreciate it. Happy they got it fixed.
The new ones have dual motors on both sides
I'm trying to find these retractable running boards for a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Anyone that might know please let me know.
Im not sure if they make them for a grand Cherokee.
I need a driver side one I have all the hardware but the guy I bought the truck from busted it off somehow .
ahhh shoot. I was realling liking these, but I do not have OBD2 on my Chevy dually, just OBD
How old is that dually
@@GearsGadgets 1990. It has the older original OBD port under the dash that I jump with a paperclip to read the codes. I bought it because it is the only 1-Ton 4x4 Chevy Dually in Hawaii, and it only has 38K actual miles on it.
They sell a hard wire kit too.
Essential for off-roading
+Aus 4040 I agree. Keeps ground clearance up. I’ve had other running boards get pretty beat up off road from high centering.
Aus 4040 y
whats the weight capacity of these steps
600 lbs per board.
@@GearsGadgets is that on the regular steps or the xL models
Hey, how are they holding up now? They look pretty solid though
By the way, is yours with "2 in" extension or just regular?
Mine are just the regular. No 2” extension, they would be way too low with the extension unless you had a lift. They are holding up awesome. Wife and kids love them and I love that I don’t lose any ground clearance with them. I recommend if you can afford it.
Awesome! So if I plan to do a 3 in lift, do u think the 2 in extension kit would be good?
100%
Amazing mod 🥰
How are they holding up
Great.
How about now?
I have been having problems with my steps. I have 2014 chevy silverado with obdii connector. Sometimes they work sometime they don't. If i un hook the obd ii plug they work 3 or 4 times then they quit again. And un hook them again and back on amd work. Any suggestions?
Sorry for the super late reply Alberto Anaya. I appreciate that you stopped by the channel and apologize for not responding WAY sooner.
Where i can buy it?
The internet.
Are they good for dragging on rocks?
I wouldn’t rely on them as rock sliders, they do tuck up tight but I wouldn’t want to be dragging them frequently as they are aluminum and would probably get pretty twisted.
Kind of sucks if you have other ODB2 devices you need to plug in. IE a Bluetooth scanner that you use to real time monitor engine data.
You can get a splitter and have 2 ports. Pretty cheap.
Anyone have issue with these not closing properly or jammed
now it is time for a suspension lift (it never ends)
That's what my wife keeps telling me. 😂😂😂 First I bought too big of tires for my truck because I wanted big tires then I got a 6 inch lift because my tires were rubbing and I didn't want to cut my truck up and now I need these steps because the truck is so tall. It never ends.
Did you really buy two wrench’s instead of just converting ft lbs?
Glock Fanboy the two wrenches have completely different torque ranges. So yes.
Gears & Gadgets ah ok thanks
I have these on my '18 ram mega cab. Had them on since new, definitely like them...BUT anytime I have the tow/ haul button on for more than 5 minutes, they don't work.
Really!?!?! That is bizarre. Must be an OBDII thing.
Constantly plugged in to the ODB II port?? Hard pass.
What else are you doing with the OBDIi port when you aren’t running diagnostic the .0000001% of the time you plug in a scan tool.
Gears & Gadgets wireless OBD II transmitter for real time gauges, stats, diagnostics. Much better use than motorized steps
Oh fair enough. You can just get a splitter and run both.
Those are kick-ass! 👍🏼 But what about us in the northern climates? Snow/salt...I wonder how they’d be in that. 🤷🏻♂️
Cheers on the review. 👍🏼🇨🇦
Barry Bebenek thanks Barry. I come from Buffalo NY originally. Very familiar with snow. I had these for a couple winters and they never had any problems.
Gears & Gadgets Right on. Good to know. (And now to find a Canadian-inflated price 🤔😁). I have another A.R. product and I really like it. Quality stuff. 👍🏼🇨🇦
When you were putting them together and the torque wrench clicked you should have stopped. When you done the second and third click you effectively over torqued the Bolts, screws and the other items.
Got it
Yes I do expect 10 years at $1500 I’m tired of things I buy being disposable, make it to last.
Gears & Gadgets I guess that’s the difference between quality and quantity
Gene Branson nothing stopping you from starting up your own high end running board company with heavy duty motors capable of lifting 350lbs, billet aluminum gears, and NASA-427 aluminum alloy boards. Good luck staying in business selling those bad boys.
Gene Branson or the other option is you could just buy what’s on the market and deal with it or not and move on. No sense screaming from the sidelines that you have a better way of you aren’t willing to jump in the game.
Gears & Gadgets Sorry if I came across wrong I’m not screaming I think that it’s an excellent product I just like to see things built USA tough. Have a nice day.
Won't work on my truck obd2 plug all ready occupied with my livewire tuner.
I have seen some ODBII splitters. Maybe look into that?
Nice video! Thanks
