I’d definitely check the pins on the module like someone else mentioned. The pins in those plugs are notorious for pushing loose if not properly aligned when you first plug it all in. Even if the motor moved after one action you would be surprised on the reasoning. Never assume something is good just because you see one form of action. Those things are wired crazy if you ask me. The pins are usually the reason and first to double check

May want to solder the wires instead of just wrapping them around one another. That’s going to cause a short down the road. Or could be your issue with the drivers side now.

I know that everyone has their own opinion on what could be wrong but for my instance I would look at those connections that you did by the floorboards on each side of the door because that was like a Hialeah rig that you just stripped the wire and put electrical tape. But I would check those connections to see if they may be touching. Love the channel and love the content hope you figure it out!

$1500 isn’t pocket change for me! I would expect the boards to fit my vehicle, a bracket to hold the module in place & plug n play wiring. And it to work flawlessly!
Looks so far like RBP steps for the win!
Thanks Ryan for all you do making your videos! I learned so much so far. Love Katie’s channel cuz I have a ‘05 F350 6.0L myself.

I put a set of these on my 2018 f150 lariat. Turned the ankle-breaker/high-dive oem steps into usable steps. Truck looks much better with them tucked underneath. I love them. Thinking about taking them off before I sell the truck just in case I ever get another one. I had zero problems and they have been trouble free. I spent a little extra and got the dual motors.

This. Looks. Sick. Cleanest Tahoe that’s on stock paint I’ve seen in this year. Keep cranking bro. Don’t listen to anybody telling you to stop.
Also I had the same thing happen on my 2000 lifted F-250. Disconnected and reconnected the motor ground and it worked magically after that.

As a licensed industrial electrician I can tell you that DIY installations can be fraught with problems. With 12vdc systems and motors, a poor wiring connection can make the difference between working or not working since the voltage is so low to begin with. Then there is the issue of whether you received a bad unit. I would have tested the drive motors to see if they worked before I even touched the truck. Just because it's new, doesn't mean it was made right to begin with. Most DIYers will blame themselves first before zeroing in on faulty brand new gear. In this case, a poor of faulty door switch could also be a cause. Poor body grounds can also be an issue. Used GM vehicles have had many issues traced back to poor body grounds. Binding of the hinges can also cause a problem. Obviously, a bad splice is also a point to look at. I always use crimp on spade terminals, (so you can easily troubleshoot or reverse your mods), and use silicone grease if they are not inside the vehicle. Seal it up withh plenty of Scotch 33+ tape, or shrinktubing once everything is tested. I've looked at some of your other projects too. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like you could afford to drop your vehicle off at a decent shop, and let them deal with it. Tell them, if it doesn't work, you won't pay them.

Ryan-sounds like it's either a wiring issue or your motor didn't work to begin with. Go over the wiring again, use a volt meter with the wiring to make sure your getting power to the right places. Also make sure your motor is getting power as well. Also go over the instructions again.

I’ve installed a bunch of these boards. After you ensure that your wiring is correct, open both doors, step on the boards and bounce. It seats the boards correctly on the brackets. If the module is bad, Amp Research is really good about making it right. Once a month r whenever you wash your rig, step on the board after you close the door to get it to stay in the down position, and hose the linkages out. Then spray them with silicone lube.

    • @bradvincet1848
      @bradvincet1848 2 ปีที่แล้ว

So what is the advantage of these boards over factory ones if you still have to spray lubricant on the hinges? The lights are trivial to me.

Lol I’m SO glad I waited and went with the RBP steps, fricken LOVE them and love not having any of these amp step problems. Sucks they don’t make any for your Taho! But for the price, the half assery that is the amp steps is kind of ridiculous. I mean sure there electric running boards & I guess they work. Until they don’t... Until the motors jam over & over & eventually corrode or just break because there cheap & not sealed. Until the module falls & gets damaged in one way or another because it’s only secured by a ZIP TIE in some random spot by the battery! And in the meantime the lights start to go out one by one because there only connected with crappy butt connectors! (unless you get lucky or do the right thing & solder them). And no these are not assumptions, I’ve personally seen this stuff happen on trucks that have been brought in. Some of witch I’ve had to fix. Now sure there probably not the worst in the world but they have a lot to improve upon before I would EVER pay that kinda money for them OR recommend them to anyone period.

From memory, been a while, sometimes when mine would get messed up. I think doors closed. And removed either the positive of neg from the battery and reconnect, kind of resets it. With my 7.3 with one of the wires you connected it to you had to cut not just join it to the existing wire or it would open both sides at once.

Next time get them professionally installed. There to expensive to do it yourself you can burn out the computer of the vehicle when you're playing around with wiring. I had mine professionally installed for $200.00 it's not worth the headache. Now when you try to get you're money back there probably going to say you did something wrong installing them. That's why I paid the $200.00 dollars because it becomes the shops problem now not mine if there not working, Motors wiring wouldn't attempt.

Should of went to junk yard pick up boards off a caddie, wires and all
Time spent in removing is like learning less money spent and then it looks factory installed

Is it possible that the motor is upside down?

I want to buy steps for my Tacoma since it's lifted 6 inches. Emailed RBP of they were going to make steps they said yes and would be out by November. It's almost been a year and nothing. I guess AMP is my solution

So why not just go with the RBP boards.
