That's a great question! The motors on the PowerSteps get power from the controller. If the controller senses too much resistance, power is cut. The original intention was as an anti pinch feature to prevent injury if someone had their foot on the step when the door was closed. As a result, if the motor is frozen over, the motor won't burn out from opening the door. A lot of times you can even free up a frozen motor by opening and closing the door a few times.
Can these be turned off such as when there is extreme ice buildup so I don't burn out the motors?
