Did it slowly start to make noise and get worse to this point? I'm trying to TH-cam diagnose the sound...so far the closest sounds is a bad timing belt tensioner. Sound is only at a certain rpm... comes and goes.
This is not an EJ25 or EJ257 engine, however don't let the 2.5L run out of oil, some of them consume a LOT of oil due to blow-by, and there is precious little you can do about it, just check the oil level every week, or after a hard run, and keep it topped up. Otherwise you will eat bearings. I helped a guy out the other day and he had almost no oil in his engine (an EJ251)... This seems to particularly be a problem with the thinner synthetics, but they are still the best oils to use.
i sold my sti 3 weeks ago, itd done 185km's and was my baby, never had any problems with it. found out today the new owner has now done the big end LOL its all in how you drive a car
Ouch, that sucks. Mine is making a tapping on cold starts but the engine has over 50k on it. I got it second hand and put new bearings in. Did you split your block and refresh it before putting it in the car?
Mine went at around 75K since the oil pump went. My uncle (who was a mechanic) told me that that weird sound it made on startup was just the exhaust rattling. Lol we learned it wasn't. That hybrid build is looking pretty nice...
@SLOWWS6 theres more factors than that. your whole motor works as one. i checked every damn bearing on my motor still spun it hitting 6 and going 95 in shifting into third. oiling is an issue if your hitting high rpms and speeds more oil than what the factory calls for is needed. yes i learned this the hard way. and how an engine is designed. can play a major role. i do believe theres a type of dsm motor thats comon to crank walk. cant really fix that can you? idk maybe im just an idiot.

@L3g4cyTT agreed, wrx's come out with smaller injectors than thier mitsi 4G93 counterpart dude, get a STI put lik 700-800cc injectors TD06 25g turbo fuel pump and something of a tune and they haul arse till the standard pistons melt at like 20+ psi
please help me out, i have the same car with the same noise!! my mechanic told me that he has to rebuild the engine and its gonna cost me around 2500 euro, its about 3000 us dollars, is he lying? he also said its better to rebuild it than put a second hand engine from japan cause u never know the condition of the second hand engine, he also said once he is done rebuilding it, it gonna put out +300bhp, im so nerves as i LOVE my car
Apparently the WRX motor is really only good for 100,000km, according to a Subaru mechanic Iv talked to, after 100,000 they get realy loose in the bottom end so he says

The reason alot of ej's blow is because idiots like to fit $2 bleed valves and crank up the boost without any fueling or ignition mods. Iv had 2 twin turbo Legacies and now own a 374awhp Gc8 impreza non of which have had any issues. Proper tuning and not thrashing the nuts off it all day long is the key to engine longevity.
LOL yeah my friend went to sell his car on CL so he made a vid and showed it to me.he revved it and i heard the rat tat tat tut tut of the rod and i asked him if he was gonna fix it.he called me an idiot and 2 weeks later the rod came thru the firewall.
wow, no wonder t he engine failed. My wrx has 160,000 km's on it, and i have set my boost controller to 14 psi flat, so that there is no chance of this happenning, no to mention i have my knock sensor set to the highest sensitivity

my gc8 sti has 180ks on the clock and it runs like a dream its all in how you look after and how you drive the car

sounds like oil pump cavitated or lost presure some how. that squeal of death is nothing good
sound like my Leg 2.5GT blew my crankshaft and it sounded like that after a mile of road hehe :)
