The end result speaks for all the prep work, top notch work! Thanks for showing every stage and what is required to get a great finish. Sanding, sanding + more sanding.
Hey, I just did this, and FAR FAR more work on my 05 WRX, basically an entire restore, rebuild. Brother is a pro bodyman/painter and I gotta say i had no clue how much work and prep went into just painting.
Great video dude, good vibe. Makes me miss my 2002 bugeye sti. I bought it extremely cheap with a not so nice early 2000's spec two-tone paint job. Black on the top half and stock silver on the bottom. I always had plans to paint/get it painted back to completely stock silver, however after getting my motorbike lost a bit of interest. Sold it for twice what I bought it for, however only three years after its now worth three times that amount again!!! Haha oh well.
it's so insanely hard to paint a car and then you pop into a shop for a bag of crisps and some karen with her goblin kids start slamming their doors into you, scratching against with metal buckles and handbags as they get in and out, not to mention if someone crashes into you while parking and runs away.
Another great video. You need to take on one or two apprentices. The Australian state and federal governments has subsidies for apprenticeships. One day when I can afford it I will bring my BF XR6 in for a respray, I just need to get someone to replace the two damaged doors with the replacements I have.
Love this video. Very informative and from what can be seen in the vid, the work looked fantastic. I'm in the process of building my daughter a 02 WRX wagon (usdm). Mild modifications performance wise but really trying to tastefully modernize the interior. As far as the exterior, ours appears to be in very similar shape as yours was. It looks great from 10m but once you get in that 2-3m zone the flaws really start popping out at you. While I have painted many things in my day, never something like this. I'm dabbling with the idea of doing it myself but I'll probably end up paying a pro to do it. Any who....loved the vid and the sti looks fantastic!
Nice work only thing i would say is that new paint work.needs to be left fr 10-12 weeks to let solvents fully evaporate and cure before applying a ceramic coating.
Some stuff just surprises me in the order you did it.... you wash the car , then pull the trim to expose all the dirt. Pull everything then wash it. Why not pull the front bumper and headlights, just a few more bolts and the front cover has to come off anyways to be painted. Would of saved a lot of masking and you could of actually paint more of the fender and not had to paint / mask up the gasket on the headlight on the subaru. Yes I do own a 05 wrx and I've pulled several of them to bare shells to paint and built the back up. But polyester primer is not what you use to lock down the first coat, its EXPOXY, then do body work on top of it. Polyester primer will soak up anything in the air, oils, grease ect that touches it. I don't know any shops that even use it anymore. Epoxy, fillers, then 2k primers ( urethanes) .
Loved watching your work, and pleased to see you're back! out of interest, noted you removed rear bootlid and bumper bar and tail lights.. (and bonnet) But you left the headlights and front bumper bar? And I think one side of the rear arch.. Part of your evil plan? please explain!?
I actually loosened the headlights and pushed them out. Mainly because the bumper is hard to remove and fit because of the front mount intercooler. The lights don’t come out good without the bar off. The right hand flair snapped when I tried to remove it so I left the left one on. The bonnet came off because it was already painted and made it easier to paint the body. The boot lid came off so I could paint in the boot area. And it was easier to remove the wing and paint. Thanks for watching mate hope this explains a bit.
Great work Dave! Car looks better then the day it rolled off the showroom floor. Wil will definitely be repainting the liberty once i actually get around to rebuilding the engine 🤣
Awesome stuff . I've learnt alot watching you work, thanks. What hardener did you use as well as the reducer for the clear ? Did you bake the car afterwards?
I would imagine he didn't change the colour because that would mean having to spray the door jams, as well as removing the engine to spray the engine bay.
Looks amazing. Wondering was there a reason why you left the widetrack rear arch on one side but took it off on the other when spraying? Do you know where I can get the carbon front grille surround? Ordered one from Aliexpress way back but place I ordered from cancelled my order said they weren't available anymore.

geez thats a lot of prep work. i say that in a good way. thats why body shops charge a good amount to respray a car.
Great edit guys :)
dude, iv followed ur page from the start and waited patiently for a full respray vid! great footage as always and as usual a fantastic job!!
thanks

Congratulations for having one of the best you tube channèls
Greetings and good day my friend..love all your work..detailed and precise..a real perfectionist
Great tutorial. Thanks! Looks like prep matters more than anything.
Nice work. I appreciate the all the detail of all the stages.
Awesome result
I like the way you applied the filler
On larger areas it’s a lot easier and more effective than the other way 😊

@22:34 I saw high spots of ceramic. But over all Amazing Job. Black color is so beautiful but the hardest color to keep 100% swirl free.
Beautiful preparation
Nothing like good prep.
Awesome video and result Dave! Car looking awesome!
Thanks mate.
@@customspraymodshi mate, Is acetone alright to use with 1k acrylic paints?
Thanks for taking the effort to do this!

This comment is so true. That I'm scared about it actually happening to me. Knowing my luck...
Yeah or they reverse into you and all apologies then when you inform the insurance and they deny it 🤷
park far away
nice work your attention to detail is awesome
Great content as always
very nice build💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿

So when would I see defect in mine. I don’t think I will. That’s a myth.
I really enjoy watching your content! You’re really good at what you do! Thanks for sharing! 😃😃
Nice work Dave! Can't wait to see it at the skidpan 👌 she looks schmic 👍

Epoxy is very difficult to do work on top of, that’s why. If no sanding is required then, yes, epoxy would be the better choice

Thanks man. Well it definitely has more clear then factory. Yeah the liberty needs it. It’s only been about 9 years or so haha.
It’s wild that you protect your top half while you dgaf about your legs mate. 😅
@@garagespooky8193 they have filters on them in the way if a layer of hair. 😄
Throw some etch primer on those areas with bare metal before applying poly primer.

Cool vidéo, like step to paint car, but why not change color ?
Nice paint job ! ✨😎👌
@A. Melbs juste for change, a color very special.
I would imagine he didn't change the colour because that would mean having to spray the door jams, as well as removing the engine to spray the engine bay.
@A. Melbs Yeah, that's what I was getting at, just didn't want a super long comment lol.

Hey your right. I removed the RH side one and it snapped in Twain. So I left the LH side on. 🤣
What paint did you use for the base coat? It looks black from afar but when you shine your light on it, it looks like a metallic blue/green.
It’s the oem colour obsidian black. 👍
can I use high build primer and do the same process? thanks
Hey mate do you have the wheel specs? Nice fit
How many quarts of paint did you used?
I wonder what is the equivalent of ceiling white is in car paint......... for those who don't care about their grocery getter.
nice😊
What's your wheel specs if you don't mind me asking
How much does a full wrx 2005 cost for respray?
Why you didn't remove the rear left arch?
Because the right side snapped when I removed it as it’s a brittle plastic. So just left the other side.
@@customspraymods I see
How much would a shop ask for a paint job like this on the same car?
Here in Australia I’d say about 7 to 15k.
Why only outside.
Am i the only one, seeing the LH rear arch trim not pulled off during the entire process? Or is there a point i am missing? 😄
Hey your right. I removed the RH side one and it snapped in Twain. So I left the LH side on. 🤣
Why hand sand the edges with 240, but do the rest of the car with 180?
Because the sanding from a machine is finer by nature of the action of the machine.
@@customspraymods Thanks.
Sorry. That wang looks awful. Why do people put those things on cars?
Is this a joke.
@@customspraymods No.
@@misterhat5823 the wang wing is how it comes from factory. Its considered an iconic make and model of car. 👍👍
