  • How to tattoo: Riding the Tube? or ? Floating the needles.... We go over riding the tube throwing our needles out and floating them. I will also show you what really helped me out and that was simply floating my needles but keeping the tube close to the skin. This helped me keep a consistent depth while still being able to see my stencil and keep accuracy up. We will be going over the following.
    Needle depth
    riding the tube
    floating the needles (aka riding the points or working from your points)
    And why using as many methods can really help you depending on the work you are performing.
    I Hope you all enjoyed the video and if you did give it up a thumbs up and consider subscribing!!

    Hey, I have been watching your videos like crazy lately. You're the only tattoo artist who makes quality videos explaining things. My suggestion would be to make a video all about needles. I am in the process of just learning about what I will need and the basics. But I hear a lot about different needles and what each type is good for, and cartridge vs standard needles. Would be amazing to have a full comprehensive video on the differences of all and what sizes are good for what. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. I know it helps a lot of us who are interested but also don't know any tattoo artists to talk to.

      Thank you very much for the kind words I really appreciate that! 👍 The next video coming up will be about shading with a mag and
      I'll give a quick basic run down on how to read a needle cartridge. But coming up in the next couple weeks will be a full on video explaining everything you should need to know about needles. Thanks Laura for watching and supporting the channel!!🤘🤘

    I've found better results in all three as well. When I focused too much on "never riding the tube" it kind of blocked my flow. I now use Bishop carts and they don't allow much needle hang with my machine. Due to this, I was forced to learn using the tip to my advantage. On long lines, it's amazing for crisp, consistent lines. If there is detail, or like you mentioned, script, it helps to float the needle more. Thanks for making this! I think we can learn "this is the only way," which can prevent growth within our style.

    Hey! Your videos are awesome! I usually speak German as I am from Austria but as there aren't German videos that explain it to my understanding I needed to look in English. I saw a lot but then I saw a video of yours and 1) I got hung and watched a whole Playlist and 2) I didn't note I did and understood everything thanks to your way of showing and explaining even though i rarely understand the spoken English. Thank you and keep on rocking with your amazing, helpful and awesome videos!! 👍✌️

    I float my liner waaayy out, just so i dont have to deal with the pooling. When it comes to shading and color fill i tend to float the needles juat a hair. It lets me compansate with angle for depth adjustment on the fly. Killer tips, thanks bro!

    I’m learning that tattooing is like dog training, everybody has there own opinions that seem to differ from slightly to vastly, but you are right I think, what ever gives the individual artist the best results and that they feel comfortable with, I think I’m going to try riding the tube some more to see how it goes since I’m really worried about skin blow outs, I’d rather go to shallow than too deep as a learner/beginner

    Hey! Thank you for making these videos. I’ve always wanted to get into tattooing but didn’t know where to start. After watching your videos I decided to splurge on some equipment. I already do drawing, painting, and airbrushing in my city and a lot of people ask me to do tattoos but I’ve been declining, obviously. I have a question, when you switch from line work to shading, do you throw that needle away immediately after, or do you put it back on if you need to switch back to line work (on the same person)? Can you do an in-depth video on keeping everything sanitary while doing a tattoo

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Congrats on the new equipment👍 and yes you can reuse the same needle during the same tattoo. You can start lining a little then switch to your shader for a little while then switch back to your liner. You don’t need to throw a needle away after you use it unless you were done with that session on that particular person. Just keep practicing Ralph you'll start to get the hang of it. Just make sure your practicing on some fruit or something. If you use the needles on fruit first you will get a better understanding of how that needle works, the size line it puts down and what not. So make sure your practicing and not just hitting skin. But keep at it Ralph experience is the best way to learn some times. 👍👍

    What’s recommended for the speed for lining if you float the needle? I have been riding the tube because my apprenticeship tattoo artist says riding the tube is recommended but I tend to not agree with that
    What’s a good speed for floating the needle

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Most the machines I use 7.5 Volts is usually a great spot to start. However it will depend on so many things. The needle configuration you use, hand speed, machine. I do understand your pain tho. I too was taught and told that ridding the tube is the only way to tattoo and doing anything other than that was not allowed. So I had to teach myself how to float the needles. Sadly most of the time it just comes down to practicing with your equipment. Don't be alarmed it doesn't go to good for a while, cause it's not an easy thing to learn on your own. Hang in there bro and keep grinding it out. As always thanks for watching and supporting 🤘🤘

    Can you explain the phrase “throw your needle out a little more”..I get what it means but how? Also my other question would be, I feel like my needle isn’t catching ink well. Any tips?

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I say throw your needle out, yes I am referring to being able to adjust the cartridge needle. With my machine I rotate my grip one way or another and that adjusts how much needle will come out of the tube when running. This adjustment will be different depending upon you set up. Hope this helped Lindsey and thanks again for watching!! 🤘🤘

    • @victormeas450
      @victormeas450 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah most of rotaries have that, I learned that the hard way during a sesh when i turned it too much and the front of the machine ended up dropping. A reflex I have is also to check how much space is between the tube tip and the needles, you mostly never have this problem with high quality cartridges but some can have a little bit of space between the tube and the needle packing, so what I usually do at the start is adjust by slightly "bending" the needles (with a glove of course) to make sure that there isn't an excess space where ink is gonna get stuck in. It's especially important when you're riding the tube as that space might give leeway for your needles to bend incorrectly while you're tattooing.

    I’m using a swashdrive whip knock off, due to the hit bar on those machines which allows for a bit of give being flexible ,
    No matter how you set the machine, when running the needles come out the tube by around 5mm due to the flex in the bar, I’ve got used to and find it good for detail/ small spaces. Any advice on keeping the tattoo clean while your working on it? I’m struggling between trying to see the stencil through wiped ink or my stencil disappearing before I have all the lines down due to wiping

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The key here is to apply the stencil and let it set for 30 min and dry really well. This will allow you to wipe the ink off
      without the stencil wiping off with the ink. Hope this helps and thanks for watching Bacon!! 🤘🤘
