Hi Dave. I've recently started tattooing as lockdown stopped me from some art I had booked. Your videos have been extremely helpful, however I've hit a snag I cant get shading down. I've been practicing with fake skin but it's just getting chewed up. Any tips or tricks you could suggest would be most appreciated Thanks nic P.s my practice canvass aka the wife wants something with loads of shading so help me.
I'm learning more from you than my apprenticeship 8 years ago! Stopped tattooing for awhile now, but ready to get back into it, so thank you very much for being so precise!
Wow I'm really happy to hear that the videos are helping you out, as you get back into tattooing!! I hope you stick with it dont quit and keep Rocking Theresa cause you got this!!! 🤘🤘
Add another to the list, I am few months “retired” from the business. I’m looking to get back into tattooing but my both of apprenticeship weren’t great. Your videos are more in depth than what was taught to me. So thank you for helping build my confidence to get back into what I enjoy
Hands down the most informative video on mags and shading. My prayers have been answered 🙏🏼 thank you for what you are doing for the community and those wanting to learn the right away outside of the conventional apprenticeship that doesn’t work for everyone! You are the man Art 🤟🏼
Wow thank you so much Marcus!! 👍 I'm really happy to hear the videos are helping you, and more so the community as a whole. 🤘 I hope to do away with the negativity associated with learning to tattoo at home "the right way" the responsible way. Thanks again Marcus I appreciate your support my friend! 🤘
I’m a PMU artist and have recently trained in areola tattooing so am learning to use needles I’m not familiar with. Your education techniques are fabulous and I’m incredibly grateful to you for being so generous with your knowledge. Working together means clients can get better results and we all get to improve our skills. Thank you. 🤗
Bro regardless of how much those markers cost your the first online artist that i've seen visually sacrifised their own $ for the learning of his viewers, legend ❤
Bro I've been tattooing since I was 16 and I'm 35 now finally gripping a rotary pen lol guess I'm old school or just now getting hip to the times but you have truly made my tattooing so much more professional my snap back is off to you my friend! Now I'm gonna go Art something!!!
THank you soo much Hollywood!!! I appreciate that support my friend!! Tattooing equipment is changing fast and im trying to stay on top of things myself lol.
Whoever dislike his channels and videos of him spreading and showing his love to anyone and everyone is a Dooshhhhh!!! Thank you for what you have done!! I love your channel and videos!! Keep doing what your doing brother!! I learned so much everyday watching your channels
Dude.. Thank you so much for this. I learned to tattoo in a medium security prison, and absolutely fell in love with it. Now that I'm out and sober (757 days today) I really want to continue down this road. I bought a Stigma Hyper Rotary V3, except I have very little real world experience. I would try for an apprenticeship, except the only shop close to me is staffed with people who get high on a regular basis, and I'm fucking done with that life. I have tried to go to reddit and ask advice, but my question got deleted, I was threatened with getting banned, and when I asked why this was the response I got - "Because tattooing requires a practitioners license, certifications renewed every year, a board of health approved sanitary environment, access to instruments with which to maintain equipment sterility, anatomy and physiology from an accredited university, and 1-2 years of apprenticeship. Tattooing without a license is not only irresponsible but it’s dangerous and illegal in most places. In some states there is even “possession of tattoo paraphernalia without a license” which can get you a fine and jail time." The thing is though, in the state of Maryland there is no such thing as a tattoo license, or any type of tattoo related certifications. Also, it was news to me that I needed to get enrolled in an anatomy program at a real university. An old run of the mill community college just won't do. The big one though is that it is more than likely that I will end up back in prison because of my tattoo machine. Lord knows I will sleep safer knowing that they are keeping the streets clean locking up all of these unlicensed tattooers with their tattoo paraphernalia. I guess I'm really just trying to say thanks. Thank you for not acting like this artform that I love contains knowledge that is simply too good for my filthy ignoble blood. Don't get me wrong, I understand the very human urge of wanting to feel better than the next man. However the only difference between the guy who typed that shit to me and myself is that he just happened to know someone who was willing to teach him how to tattoo, and I don't. Period.
I finally understand how to utilize mag shading!!!! I received a "proper" apprenticeship back in 2005 and even managed to find work in a few shops but I found myself lacking in fundamental skills. I had even sold most of machines but a friend of mine told me to stick with it. I can't thank you enough for your informative and entertaining videos! You have helped me so much with your insight! New subscriber!!!
I always reference your videos when I need help understanding how to use needles. I’m learning from my own experience and to have the ability to look to you for answers has helped me along the way! Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to help inspiring artists such as myself to become better each and every day!
All I have to say is that your awesome!!! Your a very good teacher when it comes to learning the different kinds of needles. And the best part is to demonstrate the way the needle works… thank you so much!!! I have so much to learn
The sound effects had me dying 😂 Thank you for your dedication! And actually demonstrating as close as you can get to the real thing! Most tattoo "teaching" channels don't quite know how to explain things like you do. You've helped me so much 😊 THANK YOU!!
You are an AMAZING support for my apprenticeship! Coming home and watching these makes me feel so much more confident in what I'm learning in the shop! Thanks so much man! Xx
Okay, thank you SO much for showing us the difference between the curved mag and the straight mag the way that you showed us it. So much better having a visual put this way instead of basing it *just* off of the skin. The way you did this was amazing!!!
Bob Ross said the special sound effect helps achieving the effect on canvas! I like how your Mag sound effect meows like a cat! Glad to have found your channel!
HAHAH I guess I gat that meow mag lol!! 🤣 I'm glad you found the channel as well Elaine!! Hope you continue to enjoy the channel and thank you for the support and the laugh!!🤘🤘

Great to hear the videos are really helping you Noel!! 👍 Hang in there keep grinding and don't forget to enjoy the journey (thats the good with the bad). And thanks for watching its always appreciated 🤘🤘
Your videos are so informative. My home town doesn’t have a tattoo artist willing to apprentice. I’ve been practicing on myself but still am learning as I go. These really help!
It’s been a dream of mine since I was 18 to tattoo professionally and now I’m 31 and just got my first tattoo kit after all these years and I’m practicing on myself and a few willing others and it’s insane everything you have to learn. I love to paint and draw but skin is not canvas or paper lol but arts vids have been so informative and I’m so happy I found his channel
Dude you really help keep giving me tips cause I'm a bad ass drawer but I just purchased my tattoo machines and I'm learning a lot dude thanx keep up the good advice !!!
So the reason I got into tats is bcuz i don't want to pay big bucks for ink , i always wanted to do my own ink , yes it may not look pro but I can appreciate my accomplishment in my own work! An I some how came across your channel an so far ive watched almost every video an learning alot an when I get stuck on something I go to your channel so just want to say thank you for what you are doing! Keep on keeping on , bro!
That's Awesome Debo and thank you very much!! I really am happy these videos are helping people out. I know how hard it can be in the beginning and even now so if I can help people get through those hurtles then I'm happy! Thanks again Debo and keep on grinding the journey goes on brother!! 🤘🤘
Thanks for the great video's, man. You describe it so much better than anyone else. It's so hard to find this quality and quantity of information. It's especially helpful while the friend I'm mentoring under can't be around to correct me. I really appreciate it. After watching a couple of your video's, I understand why I had saturation issues recently. Thank you! Nice crafting skillz btw
Thank you sooo much for the that Trin I really appreciate the kind words!! 👍👍 I'm happy to hear the videos are helping you out while your unable to around your mentor. And its AWESOME to hear you where able to correct you saturation issues !!🤘🤘🤘🤘 Keep ROCKING Trin and thanks for the support!! 🤘🤘
I always loved to draw and always love tattoos, and you really gave me interest and inspiration too try tattooing. You really helped me too know what’s it’s all about and I really want to give it a try, so thank you!❤️
You’re doing really great so far, however, you’re missing the number one requirement to be a tattoo artist- you’re not an asshole that looks down on people who want to learn your trade/talent!! Touché to you sir for caring!
LOL well I thank you very much Shingle Master🤘🙏🤘 I hope to NEVER be that person as that person doesn't match my personality.... So thank god lol!! Keep ROcking brother!!
Thanks for the videos bro, I just got the confidence to do an outline in my self and I actually pulled it off. It makes me want to tattoo more and more! All this because of the time you take to make these.
Mags: Short taper (bullet tip) #12 with a 3.0 stroke have been money for me on color tattoos. Sold packing or color blend is super easy for me. Flawless heals as well with Hustle butter or Platinum Rose
I have a question if you can answer . I did mew classes on tattoing and in every class they teach to hold the machine onn 90 degree Angel but here I see he is holding on diffrent angels . When we pack the color when Angel we should use ? Thanks
Thank you Gina I really appreciate that. As that whole piece is still in the works. Eventually it will become a full sleeve and I'm really looking forward to seeing it complete one of these days lol. THank you for watching, commenting and supporting the channel its much appreciated!! 🤘🤘
Thank you Dee!! since i'm a couple days late seeing this you should have it by now so congrats on getting your new machine in!!! Appreciate the support Dee!! 🤘🤘🤘
Must’ve been one hell of an NCO. Ahaha I’m about to get out of the military and have been drawing for years and looking into tattooing. Your videos are the most informative straight to the point I’ve been able to find! Hell yeah. Thanks man
Great videos dude! With the quarantine I have to wait to start my internship at my local tattoo shop, but these videos feel like they're giving me a head start. Great stuff!
Thats Awesome Joris congrats on the apprenticeship as well!! 👍👍 Great to hear your learning before you start! However keep in mind this is all the way I do things and what not, so your mentor may do things differently so remember to do what he/she wants you to do once the time comes. These videos should definitely help you out in prep for that but again respect your mentor and listen to how they want you to do things. Unless you really feel they are doing things wrong. If you haven't already I would suggest watching this video as I talk about my experience with apprenticeships. th-cam.com/video/9ntzluLUa8Q/w-d-xo.html THanks again Joris and best of luck to you, sounds like you are on the right path!! 🤘🤘
Amazing video bro not only extremely informative but hands on and entertaining as well the visual examples only added icing to the cake loved the mag marker setup 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼
Wow thank you so much Yolo!! I'm happy to hear the content is both educational and entertaining as thats what I'm going for. I don't think tattooing has to be some dark unspoken about thing. It's just tattooing so why not try to take the pressure off a little and enjoy art and tattooing. Well I thank you Yolo for the kind words and for watching and supporting the channel!! 🤘🤘
Hey dave, dave here. I just subbed mah dude. Your videos are epic. Thanks for teachin me stuff. I like crafts with dave. Daves watchin dave do crafts with dave stuff. Seriously tho your amazing my guy. Thank you.
Thanks Nicole I appreciate that!! 👍👍 Thats cool I'm happy to be able to help you out. Ive never tried the permanent make up thing. Honestly it's seems a little scary to me lol. But I Wish you the best of luck!! Keep Rocking!!🤘🤘
Great vid. I think it can be seen with the markers, but it is important to know that you always need the longest row of needles in the bottom and the shortest on top. cheers!
Thanks again for all the good info! Since everything is bought online, it’s tough for me to tell the width of application based on points of a given mag. Do you have a recommendation for a size that would be pretty versatile/ good place to start?
Hi! First of all, thank you so much for making this info accessible!!! I’m 3 years into tattooing and still learning. I make black work designs mostly, and I shade with a flat mag most of the time. Today I ran into an issue, when the tattoo I was making was located on my client’s belly/hip area. It seemed like no matter what I did, I couldn’t get my shading to be as bold or consistent as I usually can. I was wondering if you can make a video on technique for tattooing fattier areas of the body? I usually up my machine speed but I would love to hear what other tips you have for making bold tattoos in spots that are harder to tattoo. Thank you again for everything you do!
Nice video man as usual. I won’t leave a question this time as I don’t see how you have the time to answer everyone’s question but somehow you do it lol. Appreciate all you do
Thanks Logan I appreciate that man! 👍👍 Yeah it really does take a lot of time and I will keep trying to respond to all the comments for as long as I can. I know learning to tattoo is hard and the cards are stacked against us all so if I can help I will. Thanks again Logan I do appreciate your support my friend! 🤘🤘
Hi, thank you for the video, my question would be, is my shading leaving small "dots" behind is because I use a standard mag and not bugpin? Or I simply go too fast, low voltage? Sometimes those small "dots" in the shading just don't fit in more realistic tattoos I think. Thank you!
I'm watching your video and saw your subtitle about watching tattooing and doing art where did we go wrong lol It made me laugh but I wanted to say this is a super awesome way of explaining how they work . So far I've really enjoyed your videos the info is really great!! Thank you!!
Ya brother its crazy how many different types of battery packs there are so I just went with one with a good review and I'm waiting on it to get here lol but for now the power cord I got was really thin like the one in your unboxing video but it seems to do the trick and I've done two tattoos on myself that ain't to shabby lol I love the ingenuity of these pens it's so much easier than before with the coil guns. Holler at ya boy and keep putting them videos out and I'll keep watching and learning. Thanks my man
YEah man there are a lot of different power packs and it can get crazy trying to decide what to get. But glad to hear you ordered one and I look forward to hearing how you like it. Yeah the pens are just nice to use and easy on the hands for long tattoos. Glad to hear your really enjoying the pen man!! Thanks for the support Hollywood and keep Rocking brother!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Which needle was used in last part of Tattooing... bugpins or standard... and what you prefer more bugpins or standard...? I have an issue I used standard needle it got faded than I used bugpins.? What you will say?
Amazing information!!! Can you also make a video on how to shade skin tone colors( what ink to use) in vitiligo and scar tissue. It will help a lot. Thanks

Wow thank you Edson!! Much appreciated and congrats on you new equipment!! 🤘🤘
Thanks
Man that marker demonstration is awesome!

Your tips are all useful on me, i am newbie and practicing just a week but improving my skills watching your videos.. 🙂😎👍

Thanks. Great way to explain via the markers! I need to start using more needles other than a 3 round liner for everything & this video is great!

Great vid. I think it can be seen with the markers, but it is important to know that you always need the longest row of needles in the bottom and the shortest on top. cheers!
I have a question about shading so u have to get under the epidermis buh if you're kust brushing the skin how is it expected to last?
This is so useful! Very well explained! Love from France
Thats awesome to hear my friend!! Glad it was helpful! Peace and Love to you and France!! 🤘🤘
Thank you. All your vids are so educational. Now, are your CM the same as a RM?
Yes curved mag and round mag are referring to the same thing
Brilliant, patiently explained video. Really good info and will no doubt help lots of people.
Thank you Graham!! 👍Supper happy hear that!! 🤘 Thanks for watching and supporting the channel, much appreciated!! 🤘
Thanks again for all the good info! Since everything is bought online, it’s tough for me to tell the width of application based on points of a given mag. Do you have a recommendation for a size that would be pretty versatile/ good place to start?
Thanks allot for the knowledge you share!
And that tattoo at the end was sick!
👍👍
Would you recommend coming into the skin at an angle like if you were lining? Or straight up and down to pack color
Never had I wanted to dance more in a tattoo video
Loved the bob ross part u nailed that
Lol thanks 🤘🤘
So if I practiced with markers this way, would I get the same results as tattooing? Or is painting better?
You are an excellent demonstrator. Thank you so much. Awesome. Love your videos
Thank you very much Tony👍👍 I appreciate that!! Glad I can help!🤘🤘
Yes sir! Nice advice for beginner's thank's sir. Take care always
Thank you sir really appreciate that👍🙏👍 and you take care as well brother🤘🤘🤘
the first 4 minutes were helpful thank you. The rest was well... unique.
Thank you!
You are an excellent teacher....AWESOME!!!!!
This was both educational and hilarious. Thank you ❤
How you ever done any black out work what size and needle configuration would you use? Another informative video btw 🤘👊
Personally I would use a large curved mag. Depends upon what machine you use and how much it can push. But larger mag will make work quicker.
I'm watching your video and saw your subtitle about watching tattooing and doing art where did we go wrong lol It made me laugh but I wanted to say this is a super awesome way of explaining how they work . So far I've really enjoyed your videos the info is really great!! Thank you!!
HAHAHAH thank you so much Chandler much appreciated!! 👍👍 And thank you for watching and supporting the channel!! MUCH APPRECIATED!! 🤘🤘
Of course I appreciate your content 😊
Thanks. Realy was helpfull!!👍👍
Nice work on the markerMAG😎
🇧🇪
Can you tell me what kind camera/ lighting/or phone camera you use?
Love the work!!!
dude you are pure awesomeness!! all these efforts..
Thank you Sercan im glad you are enjoying the vids!!! 🤘🤘
Appreciate these videos, homie… I’m learning a lot from you and other youtubers
This is genius explanation with your markers!
Thanks Lana I was hoping it would make sense so I’m glad you enjoyed it!!👍🤘
Question; what type chair is that? I'm in need of a new one, that looks like a good chair..
hi, as i saw you shading with ride the tube. this is better in shading than the floating the needle? thx
you can do either one just depends upon what kind of effect your going for. I use both.
Thanks
