Portland Pen & Paper Haul -- Muji, Kaweco, and TWSBI!

- I was able to grab a number of fun pen and paper-related things on a recent trip to Portland, Oregon. I wish I could have grabbed a lot more stuff, but I did go into "handfuls mode" at least once at the Muji store, and also I stocked up on a lot of piston converters at Oblation Papers and Press. Granted, pens don't take up a lot of room but I was barely keeping my head on straight as it was.
I was there in Portland for a school trip, studying Portland's approach to green and sustainable design. I have posted several pictures and a few choice sketches from this trip on Instagram ( / peterdraws ) but I scanned and uploaded the full 24-page sketch/notebook I did for the class to Patreon ( / peterdraws .

The multi-pen said "please don't write upward" on it. I figured he would've written the word "upward" when he was testing it out. Missed opportunity.

I think it was all the caffeine. Some of the other vids are late afternoon, evenings after he has had, or is chilling with a drink. He is just real uppity in this one, almost like he would not need time laps to do a drawing.
You should keep all the Muji fountain pens and ink them up with different inks, then stick a piece a washi tape matching the color on the barrel to differentiate them. This way you would have a rainbow of your favorite pen and it will make you all warm and fuzzy inside
In an alternate universe, cows could be using pens by brands like mooooji and kawheyco, or even lamby.
Special Request. Is anybody else needing Peter to read us another story/book?
I'm sad to deny the request for back up... Him reading stories makes me sleep. And I love his videos too much to fall asleep during their presence. I tried it with one video and I kept falling asleep.. he got the views from me, but I felt bad as soon as I woke up. Amazing voice, but tooooo soothing for me💔
MiSti I totally get it. The sleep part that is. I do a drawing art form called Zentangle. I Zentangle while I Listen to Peter. But don’t tell Peter, but I have used his reading to help me relax and sleep🤣

I buy notebooks and sketchbook all the time.. I love how they look.. I like looking at them and I like touching them, I like listing through the pages and imagine what could be in them, but I never write or draw in them.. I want to, but I also don't want to.. am I weird? I like notebooks..

I do the same things. I like having new sketchbooks near me at all times. It usually lasts a few days until the obsession wears off.
I had that same thing, but Peter has talked me into using them. I was very uptight about everything in the sketchbook being great and pretty and finished. But hey, it is a “sketch” book for a reason. I now sketch in my sketchbooks...
You are the person I watch to pass the time during quarantine... even though I could be working on my GED. Lol

I would describe you more as a perfectionist than a control freak. Sadly a lot of us artist’s suffer from the same problem.
Since a little before your handmade sketchbook intricate drawings, I always have been a fan of your vertical doodles. I was very happy when you did that tall doodle with 5 pieces of paper. I must say I just love these and the “tiny sketchbooks” ones. Thanks for the inspiration and the amazing work! ❤️

Testing new paper: use a craft knife to take a page out of the sketch book - neat and almost invisible!
You have to be careful of what kind of binding it is though because you'll more than likely take two pages out

That plastic thingy you got with the ink is for helping fill pens when the ink is low or if the fill hole on the pen is further up than normal. Put in bottle, invert bottle, then fliip it back over and inside the bottle that little thing will be filled up creating a deep spot with little ink

I bought one of those Muji Aluminium pens after seeing your other video on them. Very pleased with it. It flexes just a bit so it gets some good line variation.
I had a little trouble with converters/cartridges though. The couple 'standard international' ones I had didn't fit. I had to buy another one (Pelikan) and that one seems to work nicely.
Yeah I also have had some frustrating times with buying converters that claimed to be universal in some way, so now I’m just trying to stock up on all sorts of different ones in the hopes that I’ll always have one that fits.
