The Blackest Night falls from the skies,The darkness grows as all light dies,We crave your hearts and your demise,By my black hand - The dead shall rise!
Some additions to what Rob said; Mongul was actually created by Jim Starlin (with Len Wein), who created him more or less as the DC version of his character Thanos... who at the time resembled Metron a lot more than Darkseid, who would be the obvious DC Thanos of today. As Starlin returned to Marvel and evolved Thanos properly, DC writers did pretty much the same thing with Mongul, and progressed him along the same line, so in the end they *both* ended up as Darkseid pastiches, unintentionally. The two characters are pretty much cut from the same cloth, except because Darkseid is in the same universe he's the one usually given the Thanos style plots, Mongul also lacks Thanos's energy blasts, otherwise pretty much same character. The Black Mercy was created by Alan Moore, he of Watchmen, V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and From Hell fame (among many others, he has an insane Supreme run I hope Rob at some time will look up, it's basically the best Superman story never written), who created it in the comic "For the Man who has Everything", a pre-Crisis story in Superman Annual #11 (1985), where it's Superman's birthday and Batman and Wonder Woman are heading to the Fortress to celebrate him, only to find Superman in the grip of the Black Mercy, put on him by Mongul, who is showing him a 'What if?' scenario where Krypton never blew up. The exact same story was pretty much replicated precisely minus Mongul in Supergirl, season 2 episode 13, "For the Girl who Has Everything". Incidentally Alan Moore wrote also the prophecy of the Blackest Night as well, and created Sector 666 and the characters that is the basis of the Red Lantern corps, in Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #3, "In Blackest Night", 1987. Oh and he created Mogo, in the short story "Mogo doesn't socialize," Green Lantern #188, 1985. For someone with so very few DC comics ever he's had a rather heavy impact on these stories.
I'm waiting for the blackest night video and rob to start of with "MMMMMMM LET ME FUCNIN TELL YOY SOMETHING ROB CORPZ FUCKIN LET. ME . TELL. YOU. SOMETHING"
I had like... 3 green lantern comic books growing up. One was covered in this episode with mongol taking out the other sinestro core members, and the others were from the sinestro core war. Tank you for allowing me to finally experience the rest of the storyline!
I love how Green Lantern goes from one big event to the next and its easy to find the chronological order of the events I wish it was easier in all of DC and Marvel. Like spiderman, Xmen, Batman Superman lol, somebody gotta make a chart lol
The reasons i personally like saint walker are actually kind of numerous but initially the name and design of the blue lanterns and his character i thought was awesome. Also the appearance of a blue lantern typically coincides with an amazing showing of power of a green lantern, or a well written purify scene of a red lantern. Also the emotion of hope itself i feel is what a true hero strives to embody and saint walker is a poster child for hope in sense making him a hero of heroes. the blue lanterns to me act the most like the golden age heroes in terms of personality. and although they arent considered offensive the fights involving blue lanterns have been some of the coolest to me. And finally my favorite character barry allen was a blue lantern and looked amazing and the list of blue lanterns were some of my faves. sorry for the rant lol
okay man please keep doing what your doing this is the only channel i've subscribed to since the invention of the youtube app thus far granted im just now subscribing right now but still #FeelAccomplished
So we have, the Brightest Day, and now the Blackest Night, what's next the Coziest Afternoon?, love you Rob(no homo) keep up the good work. It would be nice to see you talk about other comics beside Marvel and DC which i am a fan of since the late 60s peace
This is my first time commenting on one of your videos, but I must say that I've come to enjoy your channel immensely. From watching your entertaining commentary and insightful perspectives on comics I've read many times over to intently listening to you cover comics I have yet to take the opportunity to read myself, it has been great fun to be a part of the Rob Corp. Keep rocking on, @ComicsExplained. P.S. ...What's the best thing coming out of DC Rebirth right now? :D
If the Sinestro Corps rings fly off to find another suitable user after the current user dies, how did Mongul end up with them all? Same question for Hal Jordan when he became Parallax. How does one end up with more than one ring if they fly off on their own?
Oh and can you explain Sandman (image comics) and his comic stories, as well as the Lucifer stories and explain like how Lucifer and Michael's powers work?
im watching the "new to green lantern start here" playlist. it is awesome. one thing though. in the order of the list you have ruined the vega system and why not to go there already as that was 2 or more videos before this one. got me wondering if i am watching in the wrong order (although its the order you have put them lol).
That's definitely a shark, not a whale, for the green lantern creature deal, which makes sense, as sharks have to keep moving forward to breathe, which can be a representation of willpower
I know this comment comes late, but green is the best lantern corps. Don't know why any other color is considered stronger. Other emotions may be stronger - but without WILL there is no action.
why are there no Lantern Corps that derive their power from Joy?? Joy is an emotion. Greed isn't an emotion. Rage? yes. Fear? yes. Hope? meh. Compassion? kinda. Love? yes.
Jack T. Chance Version You who are wicked, evil and mean, I'm the nastiest creep you've ever seen! Come one, come all, put up a fight I'll pound your butts with Green Lantern's light! Yowza."
Normally we release Green Lantern on Sundays but I decided to drop this one today. Sunday will be Blackest Night Prelude #2.
What's the schedule for what you upload
ComicsExplained can u and Benny do Another live stream?
Thanks Rob :)
Any chance we can get some Booster Gold stories, Rob? I'm really interested in getting comics on him but don't know what to get/look for.
ComicsExplained UU
Rob went from a pretty chill dude to the excited guy that we all know and love in the span of 3-4 years. Look how far we've come.
hes a very cool person in real life too... he walked up and started talking to me at c2e2 while i was waiting for his panel to start

That awkward moment when you learn you never had tinnitus and just had a superpowered intergalactic fly in your head.
This entire story arc was edge of your seat phenomenal. Black Hand is terrifying.
Don't worry, Rob. Whatever happens in the Vegas system, stays in the Vegas system ;) Great vid, my man.
Green lantern is what made me a fan of DC comics and not just a fan of batman.
I've never read any DC comics books or know anything Green Lantern related, but I sure am excited for Blackest Night. Keep them coming.
I love how Green Lantern goes from one big event to the next and its easy to find the chronological order of the events I wish it was easier in all of DC and Marvel. Like spiderman, Xmen, Batman Superman lol, somebody gotta make a chart lol
I liked Benny's run on Blackest Night but maaaaan we been waitin for Rob to finally take a crack at this. The hype is real Rob Corps.
1:45 Constantine gets a ring top left?

Thank you rob for doing the sinestro corps war/blackest night series it's my favorite story by Geoff Johns
*I love the ending you explaining even though this story isn't a big impact one it still is valuable to when it comes to the bigger picture.*
Finallly!!!!!! I haven't watched it yet but I will in 3 2 1 💥
Geoff Johns is my favorite DC writer. I really wish they would do some movies on his GL run.

Papa bless you Rob, you absolute saint.
okay man please keep doing what your doing this is the only channel i've subscribed to since the invention of the youtube app thus far granted im just now subscribing right now but still #FeelAccomplished
Rob, Superboy Prime never received a ring but a sinestro corp solar suit, only time he truly gets a ring is in a Blackest Night tie-in

Thanks for the time and effort you put into your videos man! I enjoy hearing that ping when it's a notification from this channel!
I just realized that the emotional spectrum represents all emotions but sadness. Let's start the grey lantern core
TheCasual Gamer Dead is not really an emotion I figure the black corps represented grief.

Ahhh I love these Green Lanter videos
Imagine superman with a hope ring
Honestly Green Lanterns corp is the best comic DC has, if they flesh out the other corps this would grow even more epic.
A what if on Galactus as the host of the yellow fear entity Paralax would be awesome.
Rob need to do "The Man who has Everything." Black Mercy Plant "origin".
More Green Lantern! And when will you be covering more Star Wars content. I'm loving Vader Down and the new Darth Maul.
Have you done the Earth 2 Society stuff? Checking if I've missed it
If the Sinestro Corps rings fly off to find another suitable user after the current user dies, how did Mongul end up with them all? Same question for Hal Jordan when he became Parallax. How does one end up with more than one ring if they fly off on their own?
