super appreciate this video. My blade has lasted me until just a couple months ago, it developed a swollen battery, but other than that its been just as the day I got it in 2016.
I had the same problem a lot of other people have been having. The battery on my blade has bloated a lot, to the point of bulging the track pad and bending the metal on the bottom of the laptop. While trying to get the laptop opened accidentally stripped a few of the screws, anyone have any solutions to get it open even if they are stripped? Need help asap.
Well, quickly like this, what I would do, I would to put the laptop in freezer for a couple of hours, hoping the screws would kinda shrink (basic physics) at a different rate that frame. Maybe that could help a bit to remove them... If cold does not work, a on the other side, with heat and a heat gun...maybe that could expand in a way that could provide traction.
I live in Canada, let me tell you, we all have left our computers in the car in the winter at -20C and nothing bad happens... same when shipping in belly of airplanes..they go sub zero. I can only think of playing with temperature to get your stripped screws a chance to kind of let go of the grip and with this you could probably unscrew them with a flat or philips screw bit... regardless what you do, just don't pass from freezing to intense heat too fast or else you can get condensation, let it just get back to temperature by its own... If you have no other option, what do you got to lose anyway? But at the end of the day, going sub-zero is not a problem, all computers and electronics being shipped in Canada and Northern hemisphere all go sub-zero in trucks, so cold is not the issue.

Have the same issue with mine after 3ish years. Really frustrating and not the only issue i have had (overheating and shutting down during gaming... but like world of warcraft after 1 hour). The original power cable also frayed very dangerously (sparks visible/audible) so had to get a replacement. All out of warranty and given the price tag completely unacceptable. Was not expecting to have to think seriously about getting a new laptop 2/3 years after buying this one and will certainly not be getting another razer, which is a shame as they look and feel great.
Thanks. My first generation of stealth has the same issue. I don't even bother to buy a new replacement battery, I just removed the battery and use it without battery. I have no hope for Razer anymore. Waiting to buy another brand.
I have a 2016 stealth and the battery swelled and failed. I've owned several laptops in my life probably easily over a dozen and I've never ever had a problem with the LION battery. Apparently this also happens a lot on the razer batteries. Ordered a replacement on amazon, hopefully it will work well. Other than the battery, rest of unit performed well.
Thanks for the instructions. My battery was so swollen the seams of the case were coming apart. I just took out the battery and running on AC only. How is the chinese battery you purchased online holding up 2 years later? Any regrets or recommendations?

I have been looking for this help for a couple weeks. I have the razor blade stealth from 2016 and now I have the bulge on the battery as well, after taking it apart, my battery doesnt even say Razer on it... Thank you for posting this video. I will have to find my replacement and learn to never buy from Razer. I thought a Company that started up in my hometown would be the correct company to support but I learned that does not equate to quality..
Hi, thanks for the video! Followed the instructions and completely agree with ur opinion on razer here. Unfortunate because it is a nice product upon arrival. I do still have a problem with the replacement battery though, not charging or running off of battery and only just when plugged in. The battery warp was big enuf that the replacement needed some “forcing” into the slot despite being the right size, and one of the top screws didnt align properly. However it otherwise all seems to fit fine so i dont think thats the problem. I am curious though- anyone know what the white band with blue tab is for? Because on mine, the blue tab fell off the bottom of the white band. I slide in the bottom of the white band into the slot anyhow and wondering if something is missing bc of this or is it just a bad replacement battery or is there some other damage to the board. Basically my computer always reads 100pct battery and when i remove the power it lasts about 2 minutes before powering off
Hi, I have a razer, it got a swollen battery so I bought a new one, but when I installed it the laptop does not recognize the battery... It did ONE time, and then again nothing. I'm at a point where I cannot use my laptop without the cable as it immediately turns off. I don't think it's the battery since it did charge one time,
Hey @CAC2244, how's the battery hanging in there after a year? I confirm that razer laptops are fragile. The mother board died after a year on mine, I've send it in and it came back working but the sound wasn't the same as it used to be. And now the battery died from one day to another without any notice. It sounds like they programmed them to die after warranty is off...
I appreciate the post, and the removal of the battery was quite easy with your steps, however my laptop didn’t start with or without the battery in. 2 weeks ago my laptop would not start at all, no caps lock light, no blacklight, I held the power button for 30 seconds, then put charger in and it worked, now it won’t start at all even after doing that multiple times. I’m going to buy a 3rd party power brick from Amazon and see if it starts, if not I’m going to take it to a nearby technician, any thoughts on why it would do this?
Your power adapter might have failed and not provided enough power through the USB-C, it needs 45W. Try a macbook USB C charger and if it works you know it's just your power adapter. It might be that your power adapter resulted in overcharging/overheating and thus the swelling battery. Best way to check would be to go try a working USB-C PD adapter that supplies at least 45W.
mine got swollen twice already. I got it replaced 2 years again then today. The cause? when i was doing some rendering overnight, it seems that it starts to swell from that moment. not too sure but my suspicion is that you cannot do some heavy task overnight while charging. what do you think?
Good question, but since you were charging and on AC, then the workload was handled by AC adapter, rendering, gaming or whatever heavy applications...then the heavy lifting regardless, is done by AC adapter. I think your battery just died again of its own volition. I see most comment that OEM battery dies at about 1 to 2 years, so your usage of replacement battery fits the time frame... I would not blame hard application while charging as culprit...more like bad battery quality.
Had a swollen battery and ordered a new one off of Amazon. Fit perfectly and the laptop works great, 96% power remaining in the battery right after putting it in. There were instructions that came with the battery that says I need to discharge to 3% and then repeat 3-4 times. Is this necessary or can I just not do that so I can get back to work?

Thanks for the video! Do you know if it's normal for a new Razer laptop to have a battery who has worn off 0.4% of the battery capacity in 14 days of use?
I realize your comment is from 1 year ago, but... no... that is not normal. It's a sign of a 'refurbished' battery. 😓 Or, one which sat on a shelf too long, improperly charged (full for too long is actually improper). Something most companies should NOT be doing.

I have had my blade for 2.5 years. It has been back to Razer to replace the screen, one month out of warranty the touch pad failed and now the battery has started to bulge. This is not a failure rate that you expect for a £2000 laptop. There is no way I will buy another Razer product. Mine has not seen hard use, I game occasionally but not more than once a week, the rest of the time the most demanding application I run is outlook.

If cold does not work, a on the other side, with heat and a heat gun...maybe that could expand in a way that could provide traction.
...other than that, not much I can see as these screws are tiny, so I do not think there are any "stripped screw remover" tools for such tiny screws.
@@cac2244 would putting it in the freezer damage the computer in any way?
Hi, to you guys here, do you have experince another issue and stupid problem on your blade?? Like flicker screen, usb and another ports get error couldt detect any of device that plugged in(*literaly dead port), sleep problem(the laptop cannot enter the sleep mode and if once get sleep and u closed the screen the laptop turn on again and causing seriously thermal stuck and hot like a lava in ur bag while u in carrying arround didnt not the laptop turn on and the air flow stuck causing very hot, randomly bsod?? Any kins of issue like that?? Please tell me more, bcus i've consider to buy a razer 15 but after seeing many bad review and alott of issue happend to this laptop i doubt :'/
Just ordered a battery from eBay. Going to take at least a month to get it back but thanks for the video.
Any idea what the ribbon going over the battery is for? Swollen battery ripped mine. Not noticing anything not working so far.. but I wonder
hey there, i have a bad time trying to find the screw located below the touchpad, do you know which type it is in order to buy it? thanks
Thanks for this tutorial, awesome! Sad that everyone seems to have the same problem here, gonna avoid razer in the future.
Thanks for the instructions. My battery was so swollen the seams of the case were coming apart. I just took out the battery and running on AC only.
How is the chinese battery you purchased online holding up 2 years later? Any regrets or recommendations?
I am very satisfied with my replacement battery as of today. It is holding very well, better than my original ever did.
Is there any chance you can link the battery? I just took my computer apart today 😞
Will the laptop work without the battery but charging?
I have removed my battery, it is working fine without it on the charger.
@@davidrostron7224 do I need to put back the white cable that runs over the battery when using the laptop without the battery? Im suffering the same problem and planning to use it without battery
Any Recommendations on where to buy a compatible battery?
Basically my computer always reads 100pct battery and when i remove the power it lasts about 2 minutes before powering off
What type of screws are used on the back panel if I need replacement screws?
After about a year, my aftermarket battery is still going strong...
Thank you Claude !
Best way to check would be to go try a working USB-C PD adapter that supplies at least 45W.
hello everybody i have a razer 14, the dont turn on, but just the lamp of Lock button remains turn on, how have any idea. Thanks
Hi I've never opened a laptop before and I'm afraid of stripping the screws, any tips?
Yes...don't strip them!!! Haha, just when you screw them back up, when you bottom out, an additional torque of 1/4 turn is all you need.
mine got swollen twice already.
@@cac2244 yeah i think are right on that one. I am now using it without a battery for now . I am going to get a battery later.
this happened to my razer blade stealth i7-8550u as well. Gonna try and find a replacement online too.
II VENOMOUS II , really ? I have the exact model. It is almost 2 years old but no problems so far .
Do i need the blue thing on the connector it always falls off
I'm wondering the same thing. The blue part came off the ribbon.
Hello I am from Spain. I have the exact same laptop and problem lol. Can you please provide a link to the tool kit you used? I have searched everywhere online and cannot find it!
Hello my Spanish friend...beautiful country that you have by the way...been there 5 times already... For tool kits the main brand is iFixit and are fairly expensive and a good kit could be www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/Pro-Tech-Toolkit/IF145-307
I also have a very similar cheaper kit that I got on Amazon Trekoo Screwdriver Set, 110-in-1 Precision Screwdriver Repair Tool Kit Magnetic Driver Kit www.amazon.ca/dp/B07F7TBMTK/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_QXKNFAQCAJSF7GGBY2YJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1.

Thank you for this! I bought one. Had it a month, spilled a couple of drops of coffee on the keyboard and broke a key trying to pry it off to clean it. Called razer to get a replacement key and they voided my warranty. 6 months later the machine gets too hot to touch and the battery is swollen so much I can't close it.

@@cac2244 What's the battery life span? How many hours approximately?
@@mikelawrence1556 Well if this battery is properly manufactured, then properly exercising it and not overcharging (leaving it plugged in all night) can last for years. i believe these batteries are lithium-ion so they should last for quite some time even if made by a Chinese company.

I realize your comment is from 1 year ago, but... no... that is not normal. It's a sign of a 'refurbished' battery. 😓 Or, one which sat on a shelf too long, improperly charged (full for too long is actually improper).

That sounds like a no post issue. Thats motherboard. If it was battery, system should turn on with the charger.
Appreciate your video man thank you !
Is this The Razer Blade 2016 14" Gtx 1060.
Yes it is...
So the new battery worked for how long??
I replaced the battery more than a year ago and is still going strong...gives 4-6 hours on battery saving settings.

Thanks for the video and I just bought this laptop but after reading about all the bloated batteries and issues I think its going back up for sale. Thanks again
Mark, don't get me wrong, it is an amazing laptop, it is just the fact that Razer is unwilling to sell replacement batteries that is sub-par, but it is easily fixable, which was the point of my video. This is a case of not throwing the baby with the bath water here. You do your thing, but if my video made you think the laptop is not a good one, it is not the case as it is a marvelous machine in itself.
Amazing... exactly same problem as you...and I will find the same solution
