As an owner of one of those 6 year old blades I have to say this thing has lasted much better than I thought it would. The 870m is a little lacking now a days and the bezels are huge but it's got a great screen and has done what I've needed (sometimes pretty loudly). Good to know the memory isn't soldered on and there are 2 nvme slots in the new ones.
I like the resistance on the monitor, the fact it keeps the lid closed with no mechanical snaps. Also on the oil issue, I agree, a skin is kinda necessary in my opinion.
Last week I picked up a 2018 blade 15 that someone stripped out the screw holes at the bottom, and pried the bottom of the laptop off. It has a i7-8750h and a 1060. I negotiated it down to $250. Luckily I found a new bottom for $35 on eBay, added another stick of ram, and for $350 I feel like I got an AMAZING deal. The only thing that was bad was I had to extract the broken screws from the bottom which took forever.
I’m doing a similar video series right now on an Alienware 17 from 2014. If you haven’t figured out the driver issue yet, you can just .inf mod current drivers and they work fine. The core is supported, they just cut off support for the 880m and 870m for some reason. I’ve tested pretty thoroughly, works fine.
Well, you could have gotten the 4K version of the blade 15 and then have done a kinda “better” comparison factoring the screen into it as well. It even rocks the glass you love so much. 🙌🏾 And it loves being touched as well.

Maybe not a used preworn down laptop, but a laptop that was intentionally worn down in the factory like as a finish will definitely look nice and I wouldn't feel as stupid when I damage it with a scratch.
This video makes me worry for current gaming laptops. Imagine 5 years later and the RTX 2000 series laptops are basically unplayable in many modern games, jeez that'll suck

Or even comparing them to next gen consoles! I know there's other TH-camrs that are doing it, but I feel I absorb information better the way that you deliver it haha.
I have a similar laptop from the blade 14 generation (dell latitude e6440) but I was able to upgrade the CPU to an i7-4800MQ and 16GB of ram and windows is super snappy. In addition I added an egpu to the msata/mpcie port for gaming. I did have it connected to the expresscard port but had reliability issues.
A bit late in the fight, but just for the records : I owned this new Razer Blade and it had a real big major flaw. The battery inflates the more it's used, which is normal by itself. It took about 6 to 8 month of every day use to be fully inflate. I had to replace it twice myself. No big deal, time to time maintenance is good so every time I took the occasion to clean the inside, undust, etc. BUT the bigger the battery is, the lesser you can use the buttons of the track pad because of the internal pressure caused by the fatty fat fat battery pack.
Bring back the razor labtop test but upgrade to the 2017 one which has a i7 7700hq and a 10606gb I believe, you can find them for like 300$ usd and there actually not bad even now
Make a comparison video between two or more laptops with the exact same hardware. Cut holes in (cardboard for example) for the screens of the laptops, so you can see only the screens and the bodies of the laptops. The idea is to choose your favorite laptop. I think it will be interesting because there are laptops that are built better than other laptops but have the same hardware and I think it will be interesting to see, which one do you prefer.

the problem it has was using a non maxwell gpu. just 2 years later youve got desktop gtx 1000 series in laptops which improved performance a heck lot!
