DC, thank you for including the original crime scene photographs. I know some of your viewers don't like them, but I feel it is important for everyone to see how murderers treat their victims. Very often, the grisly facts are glossed over, and this leads people to forget that these people were human like you and I. Thank you again.

I mean it depends... I think it’s important to know how victims of this crimes look not to romanticize murderers however it really depends on a case, narrator etc. It’s completely ok to omit grizzly photos for the same reason it’s right to do otherwise. I have seen pretty gruesome scenes (fortunately only in media) but I mostly chose not to. Sometimes I am really curious thou.
It’s always sad when someone is murdered and it is easy after hearing so many cases to have a bit disconnect. That’s normal human reaction. I am not sure how graphic pictures can change that, you can get desensitized too and gloss over the cases even with pictures, human mind is sometimes cruel.
Yes we should remind ourselves these were real people. Real people murdered just as few days ago in Vienna...
      Sad. 😔🇦🇹

I agree. Just seeing how the victims were hogtied was quite alarming. It gives you a feeling of the fear they must have felt in the last hour of their lives. It humanizes the victims and makes it feel like it is still important to determine who the killers were, even if they have passed away by now. The victims deserves justice, and the truth should be revealed; no matter how much time has passed.

    • @Janellabelle
      @Janellabelle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Yes, people tend to believe the murder scenes are far less violent in their minds than they were in reality. I'd want people to know and see exactly what someone did to me in my final moments as well. If for no other reason than to do all they can to protect themselves. Dont ever think you live in a neighborhood where people dont lock their doors. Quit being lazy and lock your doors or take this chance.

    • @Teobi1

I like to see them even though I'm always sorry for the victims. Started with those True Detective style magazines that would have grainy b&w photos, kind of kick-started a life long obsession with blood spatter and crime scenes.

It’s a very telling point, imo, that the dog was “curled up in its basket”, if that’s a fact, as per police reports, and not a small piece of artistic license?
Farm dogs usually are scrappy critters - good watchdogs, very brave and territorial. Therefore, the murderer wasn’t just someone the family knew from market day, or from church. It was someone who had been to the farm many times, as a friend,so the dog was very relaxed. I’d also guess the dog was killed first.
If the description was artistic license, it seems to me that the presence of the dog, in the house, indicates that the murders occurred late in the day, after everyone was relaxing from the day’s work. Farm dogs don’t usually get to spend the daylight indoors.
Apart from the suggestions here that perhaps the deaths were to do with the Resistance, or a possible heir, I wonder if...perhaps the victims knew of someone who had been a Collaborator.
When there was peace again, that Collaborator needed to keep their secret. One or more of the victims had discovered the information, and the wartime traitor did not know how many of the family had been told.
That explains the wholesale nature of the murders, and gives a purpose to the victims being hogtied. They were tortured, whilst the murderer/s tried to find out who else knew.

Did I miss it, or was there no description of how the dog died? Was it shot? I'm wondering due to the fact that just because the dog was found in its bed doesn't mean that's where it died. It could have easily been moved after it died, possibly to stage the scene in some way. Or even because whoever killed it may have felt guilty (yes there are crazies who have no problem killing people but don't like to harm animals). In any event, forensics then weren't what they are now, and it's quite possible the detectives didn't really know where the dog was when it died.

I wondered that, too. In many accounts of post-war Europe, I've heard many tell stories of giving passersby a sandwich, or letting them sleep in their barn... Apparently many displaced peoples just walked back home. Like, clear across Europe. I imagine many of those people were traumatized. Not hard to imagine a scenario in which these poor people were just unlucky.

Well, the first thing to ask is: who got the farm after the family was murdered?
It looks to me like someone tried to make it look like a Resistance retaliation, maybe by stealing someone's gun left over from the war, or using one that he found discarded. But killing an entire family to retaliate against one or two seems HIGHLY unlikely.

The resistance forces did go after people in this period but they never made any attempt to hide their actions. No locking doors behind them or trying to be quiet. Most frequently they burned the property afterwards. If they were questioning someone they would have tied them to a chair or overhead to a floor beam. Finishing with a shot to the head. These people were tied more like you would livestock to restrain them so they could not stop someone searching the place or escaping.
The killings may have been an act of frustration because I do not feel that was the intent. Why not simply kill them on entering the property? Why even bother with tying them up? You only tie someone if you want them alive and still. Shooting them keeps them still without taking the trouble of restraining them. If you are questioning someone you want them face to face so you can tell if they are lying?
The dog is interesting since it was dead in it's normal place. That could lead to other possibilities.

No forced entry is indicative of killer knowing victims. Hogtying victims is subjugation and hatred. The captain would have his weapon at any other time, he was involved and knew who did it. He was protected otherwise the police would have obtained a warrant for his weapon, thank you Dark Curiosities!

At first I thought of the murders in on a farm in Germany that happened in 1921, but then I realised there were no real similarities at all.
Unfortunately this looks like some kind of post war revenge killing by the French resistance. They may have been real or assumed collaborators or just supporters of the wrong faction.
I doubt the Ware Wolves were involved. They were mostly rumour and I've never heard of them operating outside Germany.
Thanks for bringing the case to light. You're spoiling us this week.🦌💜

Maybe it was a soldier with PTSD. Its commonplace for us to think of soldiers suffering now, but they did back then too. And its obvious that it was someone with military knowledge. Poor family.

During WWII there were large groups of Nazi sympathisers, who were called the "Vichy" French and they were an actual political party during the WWII who were in league with the Nazis. After the war, the Vichy regime officials were executed as traitors, and the Vichy citizens were tormented by French patriots, the least lethal of which was shaving the heads of French women who had consorted with the enemy. The Sten gun was a piece of junk, but it was mass produced and airdropped by the allies to help arm the French resistance. The guns had a bad habit of constantly jamming, where live rounds would have to be cleared on a regular basis. This apparently happened during the murder in this video, as can be seen by live rounds on the ground. Assuming the family had been Vichy sympathisers or members, it makes perfect sense that they were killed for revenge. Hundreds, if not thousands of Vichy were killed or maimed after the war by French patriots and resistance fighters. Cases like this were rampant and merciless immediately following the war, so there is no real mystery here.

... the reason is the person did not want to be known or the group. I think the fact no one knows even yet, does give it credence as a motive.
Very unusual weapon for murder, even then. Seems it was handy in the rebel theory or it was premeditated for silence by someone that was familiar with it, the neibour.
With that grouping of evidence, it is hard to see any friction points that could lead to the neibour being the murderer.. But in more cases than not the killer is known.
A lot of unanswered questions likely gone to the wind of time now.
    Great show!

They were all killed because they all knew the killer/killers. It seems like someone who had been in the resistance was settling an old score, once the target was dead the witnesses had to die as well.

    • @Slothicans
      @Slothicans 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Really? Four people were murdered and you're concerned about the dog? The dog was probably killed so that it wouldn't make any noise and possibly alert people nearby or possibly just to make sure that the dog wouldn't attack the killer while its owners got shot.

    • @jeremyd1298

In 1946? The war was over my then for over a year! The Germans were either dead, in prison or back in Germany. No German in his/her right mind would have stayed in France. They would have been killed for the war crimes they had commited.

Hang on , the dog was curled up in his bed ? So the dog was peacefully asleep in his bed when murders occurred ? I think not , to me it’s sounds like the killer was known to family and dog , I mean if the dog was comfy enough to stay sleeping in his bed then the killer must have been very familiar to allow someone to shoot it in it’s bed ,
