    I live in Småland. Every once in a while, rabbits and other burrowing animals kick up human remains. This happened out at my work place a coupleof years ago. Because many of the towns, while not big, have very long histories, there are not only old Viking burials, but deconsecrated graveyards, and as in the case at my work place, an old execution grounds where the condemned were buried under only a couple of feet under the earth where they had fallen. Sometimes people who wandered off from dementia are found after two or three years. The vgetation and terrain makes it hard to make sure a search has found everything.
    This poor child had either died or was killed, and badgers and foxes scattered what was left. The skulls are often the most visible human remains. You don´t have to go far into the woods to be lost, I´ve helped search for a missing person here before. I hope his family was able to find some type of peace.

      I don't know much about Sweden, but it sounds like this island town is very much in the wilderness. It's almost guaranteed they have some kind of large predators out there. Bears, wolves, some kind of wild cats, or wild boar could all easily have come across his remains and eaten him or dragged them back to their den. A lot of times wild animals leave the skull just because there isn't meat there and so there's not much to gain by fussing with it..

    Anyone bragging about murdering a young boy is certainly disturbing. I don't see how his wedding anniversary or the fact that he had been working the night before could mean he didn't do it. Poor kid.
    However, that story was here-say. It is more likely that a family member killed him. It's hard to imagine a mother covering up a murder perpetrated by her husband, but it happens. And she could have been very afraid as her partner was a killer.

  • @debbied9997
    @debbied9997 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Family secrets usually come to light at some point in the future. With such a close-knit town, I'm sure someone knows what happened and perhaps just wanted the issue forgotten. His mother's story about her 13-year-old getting up, eating a small snack, and asking to go for a walk does not add up. Today, an outside law enforcement unit that would not have given his family such leniency would have been called. Still, sad that a life was cut short with no explanation.

  • @lyedavide
    @lyedavide ปีที่แล้ว +18

    It seems that if any foul play had indeed occurred, I would suspect someone in that community. With it being so difficult for an outsider to move around undetected or unnoticed only serves to strengthen this belief. As for the accidental death on another island, someone's boat would have to go missing. I doubt a young boy could have rowed four miles all by himself, and someone else would have had to row the same boat back so that it would not be noticed that it was missing.

    I don't believe he did go out for his walk that morning, more likely he was already dead as a result of domestic violence and the family were covering it up. Bear in mind what a closeknit community they lived in and how implausible his disappearence seemed in any case.
    Perhaps the timing was just good fortune, or perhaps Sunday was used because the islanders would be preoccupied with Sunday routines and going to church, hence it would be easier to fabricate a story apparently taking place during that timeframe.

    Alvar Larsson was a Swedish boy who disappeared on 16 April 1967. Alvar and his family lived at a farm called Sundslätt at the southeast part of the island Sirkö in Åsnen, one of the largest lakes in Småland. He left his house on a Sunday morning to take a walk and bring in some wood, leaving no traces behind. In 1982, more than fifteen years after the disappearance, his cranium was found on a small island 6 km away. The disappearance attracted a lot of media coverage at the time and many theories as to what happened have been put forward. Thomas Quick has confessed to the crime, but has recanted all his confessions.

    In November 1982, three hunters had rowed to Harö, a small island, to train their dogs. In a bay they found a human skull. Realizing the teeth had modern fillings and thus could not be an archeological finding, the men contacted the police. The police immediately assumed the skull belonged to Alvar and using his dental record, this theory was confirmed. The island was searched thoroughly but the only other finding was two row boats whose owners soon contacted the police and it was concluded Alvar could not have used either of the boats to get to the island.
    Although there was a big hole in the back of the skull, experts could not determine whether the damage was from a fatal blow or had been caused by weathering during the years since the boy's death. The skull of Alvar has since been buried alongside of the boy's father and any crime involved with the disappearance has been barred under the statute of limitations.

    My limited ability to place where these islands are in Sweden could poke a hole on my thoughts but it surprised me that cars and local bosts were checked but nobody checked other boats not belongong to the Islanders that were seen in the area earlier. Just the skull appearing would suggest that he was out in the water or at best, a shallow grave that the animals could dig up. I believe he knew his kilker but I'm not convinced that it was a family member. Nobody has said if be had friends outside of the island either. The one thing I'm sure of is that he had a watery grave, something that he may have feared.

    I’m struggling to justify his skull on another island not leaning towards foul play. If his parents were telling the truth, he had no reason to leave the island. If they were lying, foul play seems a given. If the immediate investigation didn’t implicate his family, I’m inclined to believe the best about them. I’m more inclined to believe a neighbor or older relative was responsible for the disappearance. A small boat remotely moored or docked could be used, and returned before the alarm was raised. The culpable party could then tell authorities that their boat didn’t appear disturbed. I’d be curious who sold a boat in the 3-6 months following his disappearance

    An animal, like a bear or a wolf, could have killed him and carried the body in its jaws while it swam to another island. Or he could have died of natural causes, like a fall or drowning, and similarly had his body carried away by an animal to the island where the skull was found.

    This kid was buddy buddy with an unknown older male. Took a “walk” to meet. He was hanging around possibly finding a common interest. I believe the boy thwarted a possible relationship attempt and he was killed to cover it up. Body was brought to the island at a later date! He didn’t run away! Who asks for permission to go for a walk to run away???

    Not to nitpick, but Småland is pronounced like you would say small-land (almost anyway). The letter "å" is a narrow "o". The "a" in land is an open "a" like in GAndhi.
    Å is practically O. Never mind the fine tuning.

    Sadly the investigation was messed up because they only thought of an outsider taking him. When no one could point to an outsider's car they didn't know what to think. Maybe it was someone from the Island. He could have seen something he shouldn't or someone could have hit him with a vehicle and they drove his body away. They only found the skull so they don't have all the information. So sad.

  • @krisfinley6706
    @krisfinley6706 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Can't believe they ultimately said it was accidental!? That makes no sense at all. A deserted island 4 miles from his home, so he would have to have gotten there by boat. Who's? Nobody reported one missing. Aaand the boat went where? It should've still been there. Also just his skull? Even with animals scavenging they leave bones scattered around the area. That ruling is an insult to both him and his loved ones

    • @eadweard.

    The narration here of this story is very contradictory. All through video you keep saying how small this island is, so small that everyone literally knows everyone else. Yet at the beginning you seem to say that this island covers 32K sq km which turns out to be more than 2X the area of the whole American State of Connecticut. And to suggest that a city of 700K people is a place where someone would immediately notice a strange car appearing is laughable. Furthermore, the photo of this island that you feature at the beginning shows SO Many homes and boats that I couldn't even count them all. Are you mistakenly talking about 2 different places ???
