If you have read all about this case and listened to the podcast "Black Hands" you would have no doubt that David Bain was indeed guilty. I have read everything there is to read and there are so many details that point to David and very few that point to Robin being the killer. Just a few points off the top of my head: 1. When David got back from his paper round he put all his clothes through the washing machine, before calling emergency services. 2. His paper round was done at least 25 minutes earlier than he normally did it. 3. It would have been impossible for Robin Bain to have shot himself with the rifle that was at the crime scene. 4. David's glasses lenses was found under a bloody item in his brother Stephen's room. Stephen was the only one who seemed to fight his attacker. 5. David had scratches on his hands, likely from his fight with Stephen. 6. Robin had no scratches or blood on him (other than his own). 7. They were able to prove that the time on the computer was digitally altered, something that David was capable of doing. If Robin was the killer and wrote that message, why would he need to alter the time?
So many questions, I have no doubt David was the killer.

That's a lot of compelling facts indeed. I would ask who would do such a thing over an argument about a chainsaw, but people have gone psychotic over less, especially given the torture he had to witness his father being subjected to.

David Bain was indeed guilty. His ridiculous breathing on his phone call was bad enough. Robin Bain was obviously depressed, perhaps headed to dementia. I seriously doubt he knew how to operate a computer. His desk and room at school was very disorderly I did read. It wasn't him who left the note. A girl said one of the Bain girls told her David had been threatening the family with a gun. I don't remember if it's this video but a girl who knew David (at university in the comments section) said he was very angry he couldn't pursue a singing career, opera I think, and his mother wanted the money for a new house build. Sounded legit but who knows. Oops I've landed back on the video I saw ages ago.

I've been watching a lot of hoarding docs lately, and I want to point out that not all hoarders are violent, but all hoarders have at least one significant mental illness. Belongings piled to the ceiling, belongings that are hazardous or unusable, rooms in the home that can't be used for their intended purpose, utilities shut off, broken appliances left in disrepair - any one of these things is a red flag and should be taken seriously. Please get psychological help for friends and family members (and neighbors) who hoard! They are suffering in secret!

While it's true to say "if they don't want help you're wasting your time" is true, sometimes people do just need support and nudging.
I know as a hoarder myself, I've gotten so penned in over years of living like this I don't even know where to start.
I think perhaps better idea could be "Get the hoarder in touch with the correct support services ongoing" because it is a intense, difficult, non sensical and emotional issue.
It's complex, and would be very frustrating and draining for anyone thinking clearly.

First-born child always has a special place in parents' hearts. But if they were supposedly arguing/upset over a chainsaw, why would David wipe out his whole family? I'm not saying who I think was responsible for this tragedy, cuz I truly don't know, but Robin seems like he had some serious mental issues... but who can blame him with the way his wife was treating him and his living conditions. You're doing an outstanding job presenting these cases. But what the police didn't do it seems, is try to figure out who besides David Bain could have performed the killings. They seemed to want to punish David for not having been killed with the rest of the family. Instead of launching all these inquiries to try and get out of compensating David, they should have been more interested in finding the killer.

Thought the thumbnail pic looked familiar... turned out I saw Matt Orchard's video on this about a year ago; luckily -- ? -- my memory isn't so great though, cuz I couldn't remember anything, really, about the case.
Either way, it is a tragedy, whoever did it, for five family members to be wiped out. If David didn't do it, how sad that he lost them all and then was accused, convicted, and had to serve time for it. If he truly was responsible, he pretty much got off scot-free, in my eyes, even though the minimum amount of time he had to serve, he almost did, but that was a slap on the wrist for taking five people's lives.
Anyhow, thanks for the upload and hope you're having a good one!

I'm a New Zealander and this case still divides us. Robin Bain had the motive, but the physical evidence pointed towards David. I've read Joe Karams books which attempt to refute that evidence, and while not fully convincing, he does offer possible explanations. Because if David zoned out for 20 minutes after discovering the bodies (as he claimed) he may well have walked through blood etc without even knowing. As to his motive, it has been suggested that he had grown to hate the family dynamics and felt trapped. And then there was the inheritance money. Lastly, it's said that David had shown no signs of mental illness before the murders, but some people did find him rather strange. He had written out a fantasy where he raped a woman and got away with it using his paper route as an alibi. Also one of his brother Stephens friends alleged that Stephen had told him that he'd woken the up one night to find David standing over him either pointing a gun or his finger at him (can't remember which) and said "bang bang you're dead" before walking away. If true, then it obviously points to Davids guilt. But somehow I find myself hoping that he isn't...I don't know why.
