Is the NEW 2020 Subaru Legacy the BEST midsize car to BUY?

  • The ALL NEW Subaru Legacy is finally making it's way into dealerships. The new exterior design is en evolution, but on the inside there is a revolution. Under the hood is a 2.5L flat-4 producing 182 HP & mated to an CVT transmission with power going to Subaru's Symmetrical AWD system. On the inside there are some revolutionary changes including a 11.6in infotainment system screen. Has Subaru built a midsize that was worth the wait?

    Joe, thank you for your review that was great! I’m sure you’ll be reviewing the XT as well. Subaru made the change but still didn’t go farther enough for a 2020. But this is my opinion as a Subaru legacy owner.

    Great review Joe! To me Subaru’s were never lookers, styling was always bland, even this one can’t compare to a Camry or the accord. Reliable yes, especially w. Their AWD. Like the location of the pull handles mounted in the trunk to lower the rear seats, that simple feature was a major WTF ! So simple, yet I’ve never seen them mounted there, always on the sides of the trunk on SUV’s

    Price is what holding me back on the limited. I'm leaning toward the premium. I wish there was a video on the premium. I'm a fan of Subaru. I own two now. But needing a 3rd vehicle. I just wish that Subaru would discontinue the very weak 2.0 that is used in the Impreza. If the Impreza had the 2.5, I would purchase it in a heartbeat. I own a 2018 Impreza, and I'm telling you, it is short on power. I also own a 2020 Forester Premium. It has the 2.5. It gets,almost the exact mpg as the Impreza. Looks like I will be be focusing on the premium legacy.

    I've never cared for those CVT simulated gears. If they have to go CVT just let it do its thing. They only sound like they got asthma when you push the accelerator. But the fake gears make the experience worse. This is nice car for the MSRP but forget about having something sporty. This looks like a nice commuter car. But it appears to short on HP. To the point where you probably won't have much passing power on the interstate. I thought these used to have six cylinders.

      William Myers hi, well think it’s a good car, won’t deny that,but in terms of 5 passengers i think its way more less space than and accord or camry, that’s all, i think its like not as small as a civic but not as big as an accord

    • @th83
      @th83 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's really not that much smaller than the Accord and Camry. It's 1.6 inches shorter and just shy of an inch narrower than the Accord, but it's also 2 inches taller. The Legacy's wheelbase, at 108.3", is on the shorter side for the class and 3.1" shorter than the Accord's. The Legacy's wheelbase may be closer to the Civic's (106.3") than the Accord's (111.4"), but the car's overall size is still very much in-line with its mid-size competition. Its interior specs are very competitive, despite the short wheelbase. It only gives up 0.9" of rear leg room to the Accord, but matches its headroom, and even offers nearly an inch more rear shoulder room. In terms of cabin volume, it's within 0.2 cubic feet of the Accord, so it's very roomy (that extra 2" of height really helps overcome the shorter wheelbase). The only place the Legacy really loses out in terms of space is in the trunk, where it "only" offers 15.1 cubic feet of cargo volume. The Accord just happens to have a huge trunk (16.7 cubic feet), but 15.1 cubic feet is still very competitive in the class (and ties the Camry). If you add the cabin volume (without a sunroof) to the cargo volume, the total interior volume is 120.6 cubic feet. That's enough for the EPA to classify the Legacy as a "Large Car". The Accord is also a "Large Car", according to the EPA, but the Camry is only a "Mid-Size Car". So the Legacy is not "much way smaller" than either of those cars.

    • @Mrexotic110
      @Mrexotic110 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@th83 th83 thanks for the technical information, I mean in terms of technically talking I see it's not that smaller in the cabin, but when I see this guy sitting on the backseat and compared to an accord directly it looks much way less comfortable, accord it's way bigger, compare it on a video and u will see it, I'm not saying it's a small sedan, but it doesn't seem to look as big as an accord, compare it on videos, it's not the total amount of cubic space, it's how you distribute the free passenger space

    My 2017 Legacy Premium blew head gasket at 42K. Then at 48K the left strut went bad. $500. The Sirrius XM radio goes out every few days and makes a loud clicking noise have to shut the radio off and on again. I love the way the car drives and comfort but these 3 mechanical incidents are very discouraging. The head gasket thing is pretty common on these boxer engines I've read. My 2012 Camry has almost 150k. Nothing has ever gone wrong with it. I don't know how they do it. But it's seats are so uncomfortable and doesn't drive great. I wouldn't buy another Subaru because of those 3 issues. It 's a shame because the car drives great, handles well, rides really well, has plenty of room in the front.

    No, it's not worth the wait. Yeah, it's nicer inside. But have you seen their Japanese lineup (Levorg)? They're far more exciting, if not as exciting as their concepts or their late 90's, early 2000's models. And why can't North America get a Legacy STI or something close?
    Oh, nice review Joe.

      Jason M I must say, a BIG part in buying a car is its looks. There’s no debating that. Most people who buy a car that really has no visual appeal, are people who really don’t have great taste for cool style in the first place. A Honda Accord can give ALL the same comforts while having a better style. Subaru would only win for its AWD capability. So let’s not pretend looks aren’t hugely important for a car.

    • @angelomanzi9272
      @angelomanzi9272 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason M these are on of those topics that aren’t even worth debating over. We all have preferences, and to some people the dull look is an absolute deal breaker and I get that. I wouldn’t want to drive a car I didn’t like for 20 years straight. I personally put comfort at the top of my list, but I can’t knock others for putting looks or performance above comfort. I don’t think it’s sheepish to want a really visually appealing car... that’s their preference and it may be a dealbreaker for them to have a dull looking car. You really can’t put a limit on happiness. If having the best looking car is what makes this man happy, then that’s all that really matters.

      You picked Legacy STI out of every other thing I mentioned and based on looks figured that I would drive a Charger. Hmm. Wrong.
      Subaru customers are some of the most fiercely loyal in the automotive industry, combined with one of the longest lasting vehicles on the road and you'll see why I suggested more excitement within their offerings. The WRX, currently their oldest vehicle is still the sharpest looking in their lineup. And said buyer for example that wanted something for a new family would have had to settle for the Legacy, Forester or Outback. Subaru can afford to make their vehicles more attractive at least from the outside. Their fresh concepts don't seem to translate well into production.
      If you so feel strongly about the direction they're going, then go ahead and buy their vehicles. I wouldn't.
      By the way, I used to drive a Q50s. Now, a '17 Elantra Sport (7spd DCT). I know it's not a Charger, but it's plenty exciting for me. Plus looks better than any current Subaru in North America.

    • @keino111689
      @keino111689 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason M I absolutely get that and I guess it suites a person based on how they will be using the car. The Accord isn’t exactly good looking either, it’s way too over-styled but they try to mimic some European styling with it. I’m also not sure how long the Accord’s tiny turbo engine will hold up either. However I feel like Subaru could imply better style and elegance to their design. I could never really understand. Something like a 5 series has no crazy lines or angle, it’s rather bland....but looks good, and economy cars that use complicated angles and surfaces tent to look ugly and cheap.
