New Super Mario Bros. was released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS. It features your typical side-scrolling plumber, but in this case he comes with enhanced abilities, like wall jumping and doing flips.
Most of the game can normally be skipped with warp cannons. Here, the author avoids those cannons, allowing you to see much more plumbing action.
Despite this movie seemingly looking longer than the previous publication, it's actually a 1333 frame improvement when factoring out emulation differences.

It feels so wrong seeing Mario in the shell powerup and still jumping around like a maniac instead of sliding.

I remember growing up with this game always thinking the blue shell was always going to be the slowest, but I had no idea that it could literally be manipulated to gain so much speed and being the fastest method to get through many stages.

As I understand the penguin suit serves as an analog, the shell is still fun as hell and was very goofy in the one Vs. match I played

I noticed in 8-3 that they kept taking the blue shell out of the reserve slot and then immediately picking it back up. What exactly does that do for the TAS?

Why sometimes Mario pick up a koopa shell for "no reason" ?

Read the authors notes in the tas submission.
To quite the author: "If a throwable object(Koopa shell, Spring, etc.) is thrown while Shell Mario is going down a slope, then the faster speed Mario has while going down the slope will be carried into his X speed if he jumps on the right frame without Left or Right being held. This is best seen in 5-B and 8-5, although it’s also used in more subtle places like 1-2 and 1-5"

It's not required to go to every world for any% Warpless, you just can't use cannons. Most players skip W4/7 in a normal run anyway
