Glad to know I'm not the only one who woke up to this speed run after falling asleep watching TH-cam. I found myself here after falling asleep watching a SwankyBox SimpleFlips collab vid on is it possible to beat SM64 if every object is a coin.
If you grab bowser on the first frame before he starts moving on the 1.0 version of the game, Bowser's health resets and he is unable to die. Unfortunately, it happened this run, but it's not supposed to happen :P
The average time between you pick a star and you can move again is 5 seconds. Multiply it by 150 stars. Congratulations, you've spent 12 minutes and a half looking at the same animation.
Actually only 120 stars in this game come from main levels. One in each level is 100 coin which doesnt require a start animation, so that's 105 stars. Some of the secret stars have to be accessed from inside a level, which means they technically require a start animation as well. I'm not gonna count them up but examples are Luigi's stage in Big Boos Haunt, and Metal Cap in Hazy Maze Cave
This remains an amazing fame. While I certainly enjoyed the game on N64, I do like the changes made to the DS version a lot. Never got past the 138 Stars on my original copy from 2004, but I am trying again now in 2020. 😉
I really enjoyed this speed run! Some obvious errors of course, Hazy Maze Cave was a bit rough, but still awesome breaking 3 hours! I'm wanting to get into speed running this game, so is there any tips/tricks you could give? I plan on just starting out on the basic 80 star run.
I never realized the beach level played Delfino Square music. I was also young and had never heard the Delfino Square music. In fact, I didn’t even know SMS was a thing😂
Awesome run with some minor mistakes. Good work, but actually that's only the 150 star category. The 100% category includes catching all bunnys too but because this would just be boring for both, runner and viewer, no one actually runs this category. That's because it's just called 150 Star. Just wanted to mention it ;) Btw did you play on real Hardware or an Emulator?
I dont remember seeing tou catching all 8 glowing rabbits, how did you get that star without catching them all, or did I just miss it? Also I'm wondering how did you set up your 3ds for video capture or are you playing a ROM?
This game is more fun to me than Odyssey. Power moons are literally everywhere and getting them can be so simple so it doesn't feel rewarding. Here it's much more fun, good times

SO MANY MEMORIES. my best friend lived next door to me and my mom ran an in home day care so me, my best friend and 2 of the kids my mom baby sat that were our age would come home from school at 3:30, we'd watch TRL and then bam, it was N64 time and usually we played either this, yoshis story, goldeneye, mario kart or smash bros. good fucking times! the 90s were and are sacred
Incredible game. And a launch title too. It's a shame, the DS had so much more potential when it comes to graphics, but too many 3rd party developers did not make use of the DS hardware. Games like Mario 64 DS and Metroid Prime Hunters really show the potential of what the DS could do with the right art direction.
The original was.... garbage in the first place, bosses are a joke, puzzles that can be completely skipped, rudimentary graphics and gameplay, So the DS version is just an updated garbage heap you could store in your pocket. It's a children's game, made for people who have a mild of a child.

The original was.... garbage in the first place, bosses are a joke, puzzles that can be completely skipped, rudimentary graphics and gameplay, So the DS version is just an updated garbage heap you could store in your pocket. It's a children's game, made for people who have a mild of a child.
