Newer Super Mario Bros. DS ( www.newerteam.... ) is a hack of New Super Mario Bros. that adds entirely new levels and custom enemies, bosses, music and graphics to the DS game. The hack also modifies the Blue Shell of the original game into the Hammer Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3.
Soig ( tasvideos.org/... ) collects all Star Coins in every level of the game and spends them all in record time.

Aside from the great music and backgrounds. Im impressed by the level design, star coins are where they should be and everything makes sense. You have more freedom than in the original NSMB
One thing that i hated was the fact that mini-mushroom was only useful for warpzone stages in original NSMB (World 7 and 8), you can find many good uses here and also the new item which is hammer bros mario resulted more broken than the blue shell (lol) i love it.

not really. it's not really any more technically impressive than the original game. a lot of effort was put into it and it's a great hack, but that effort was put into more into making something fun and cool than into making something that would push the DS

So wait, why the constant switching between Mario and Luigi? Does Luigi not run faster / jump higher in this game? Surely they both have pros and cons given the constant switching and not just staying on one or the other

yeah luigi is higher jumps and higher max speed and mario is slower but has more controllable movement and accelerating/slowing down with mario is faster than with luigi. it makes sense for the tall lanky brother to be able to perform higher and longer jumps than the shorter one because legs work that way, and it also makes sense that when luigi tries to slow down or move other directions or speed up, his legs have trouble staying put since they are skinnier and have more momentum behind them

@@RevenantNeverDies Sorry, haven't watched this TAS in a while so I don't quite remember the levels where it switches into Mario. Given your explanation, does it switch to.. slow down faster? More controllable movement doesn't seem necessary in a TAS at least, so I don't see why Luigi wouldn't just be used 100% of the time. Unless slowing down is good for some reason that I'm unaware of

I don't know if it's different in the hack but in the original I think to get 3 stars you have to finish fully the game (get every star coin and spend them all, and unlock every secret level and shortcuts)
