Neist Point is the only fishing mark I've ever been to where I've called it a day because I was catching too many fish. Every cast was a 5-6lb pollack, and at the end they were pulling me to my knees and my casting arm was dead. There was a shoal of dolphins, a minky whale and an orca all within 300 yards of the rocks, and I was glad to just put the rod down and enjoy the view for a while. Can't wait to go back.
I've had that fishing at the MOG but they weren't that big. I'd love to see an orca, I'd stop fishing and just marvel at them even if I was on a blank 🤣
@@SlippyLimpets There is a channel called finding fins. They have a few good videos of the Orca at niest point last year.
@@theorigonaldave thank you, I'll check them out
It's only happened to me maybe 3 time's in my 37 years fishing and one of those times was spinning in my local river in the pissin rain and I caught 36 wild brown trout in less than 2 hours and I only called it cuz I was shivering, other times were Pollack up to 4lb on every cast at a rock mark called the stakk on the isle of man and I called that on account of dehydration, if I'd taken more water I'd have continued cuz I was only 2 hours into the flood, 1 bar spinner in every cast brought a fish.
That sounds lovely watching the whale's we sometimes get them minky whale's and I've seen my fair share of basking shark's but sadly not so many around the isle of man anymore.
Absolutely enjoying watching your videos after a long day of work I am 18 and a mechanic who is getting back into fishing haven’t been since my dad passes great stuff keep it up 👍
Picturesque place Nathan am glad you’re pollock hunt was a success Isle of Skye is just amazing
Thanks Stewart. It is a beauty of a spot!
@@SlippyLimpets I think you if you wanted to do in life would move to Skye or Orkney pollock fishing every day on you’re door step
Good Morning Nathan what a brilliant video & some cracking fish , thanks again for sharing it with us , looking forward to more of your adventure's , tight lines
Evening Steve, hope you're doing well. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching. Tight lines👍🎣
Cracking video Nathan! Amazing scenery and some nice fish too. Keep them coming! Your efforts are really appreciated.
Your comments are too. Thank you and tight lines👍🎣
Amazing as always.😲
And you call that an easy day.🤣 I was puffing and panting as you were walking down.🥺
Some lovely fish, those eyes are stunning, glorious scenery, great bird life and peace. 👏👏🎣🎣
Thanks as always for sharing.👍
Take care and stay safe.😷
.
I was a bit on the way back up🤣
It is glorious down there. I've never been lucky enough but apparently the occasional whale and Orca will swim by. I was lucky enough to have the place to my self though. It can get choka down there.
Thanks as always Ian👍🎣
Fantastic fish fest, and of a good size. That mark looks fantastic in the cloud and mist, must be stunning on a sunny blue day. Very enjoyable watch Nathan. Arthur.
It is a cracking mark to fish but I've been there a fair few times over the years and I can't remember ever having a sunny day🤣 Thanks as always, Arthur, and tight lines
I love Scotland and fishing, but have never fished in Scotland. Thanks for sharing!
Hope you get a chance sometime. Thanks for the comment
Another cracking day out, love to try fishing around Skye
Hope you get there some time soon
Fantastic mark - really stunning scenery and of course, some lovely fish too of decent size. Love it! 🎣🎣
It is a lush area to fish, I know it's a long way for you, but you should stick it on your list of places to visit, you won't be disappointed. Tight lines LV👍🎣
@@SlippyLimpets Off to the lakes in a cpl weeks. St Bees any good?
Never fished it, only climbed there. But looking back to that with my anglers head on then I'd have to say yes- it looks very bassy.
@@SlippyLimpets Music to my ears - packing the lures! 😁👍🎣
Was there same time last year with not a whisker fishing the harbour. Stayed at the Uig campsite. Rain almost continuously. A fantastic place to visit. Will be going again soon.
Tight lines
I've never had much joy round that side, and yeah, the rain seems constant on Skye. Hope you get amongst them on your next trip
I always thought what you called bait holders, were sample holes to take magnetic readings from the volcanic rocks that they are normally found in. Using the crystal alingmnets to record where magnetic north was when the erruptions took place.
Could well be, maybe they were duel purpose.
you were due some nice fish for the amount of work you put into it good to see, I am hoping you have many more,
Thanks mate, appreciate that. 👍🎣
Great session that. Those pollock luck stunning.
They're great looking fish, especially with those big dark eyes.👍🎣
We pop up to Skye annually for the pollock, and fished that mark last year. Not as productive as other marks we fish, the walk back to the car is a killer, however as you say the climb down pretty easy. Now looking forward to this years trip. Great vid as always. Thanks.
Hope you have a great trip! 👍🎣
Nice session Nath, some good fishing there, and Scottish scenery is always stunning. Well done bud. Enjoyed. All the best and tight lines.
Aesthetically wise, I don't think there's a bad looking mark on Skye. Thanks as always Adz and tight lines👍🎣
Great watch as always Nathan with some great pollock. I fished a place called Staffin about ten years ago awesome for big Pollock, Mackeral and even had Gurnard, Keep them coming mate tight lines
Thanks John, I fished Staffin a few years back and, yeah, it is a great area too.
Tide line mate, always good to get on the edge or just inside any running tide off the shore, that’s how we have always described it anyway 👍 some good fishing, well done, some good pollock fishing to the left of the point in the deep water when conditions permit.
I've fished the left a couple of times but not had much joy. I'll persevere. Tight lines👍🎣
Well done mate, good session 👍 enjoyed watching. Tight lines lad 🎣
Cheers Darren, tight lines mate
Some lovely fish there
Another great video mate. Loving the journey of it all. 🎉
Cheers mate!
Fair play, your catching some fish now, compared to when you first started. Good sized fish too. Keep the videos coming
Thanks mate, and will do👍🎣
Good old Neist point! never fails 😀 Well done mate.! I find it better to fish there on tide making up, cos you get that tide less running through. Summer times is pretty hard to get there as it gets crowded by tourist. Tight lines!!
Strange you should say that because I've always found the ebb is the most productive stage for me. You're right about the summer, though, there's barely a spot free to chuck a lure from...and the midge😂
nice video, i was there at that exact spot about 3 weeks ago lol a local guy spotted me walking down with my spinning rod and showed me the easiest way to climb down lol great place but the road is absolute carnage on the approach lol.
Wish he was there when I was, would have saved me 10 minutes of fishing time🤣 Yeah, the roads are terrible, a barmaid told me the recovery trucks can't keep up with the amount of knackered cars from the craters.
Another Good watch Nathan!
Always nervous watching you get too those marks even tho your an experienced climber lol. Take Care and until the next time Tight Lines 🎣
Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it👍🎣
Superb video Nath, learnt a lot from from that about lure colours.had my first peacock wrasse last weekend.
Congrats mate, that's a species of wrasse I've not caught yet.
Thanks mate,it was on the isle of whithorn, that place is a proper wrasse hole👍
Nice one mate, was almost like watching a young John Wilson with all that chuckling 😆
My belly is getting like his too. Not sure where either of them came from🤣
Good to see someone else getting followed right up to the surface. Had one on the SiB also follow right to the prop!
You can catch pollack from the shallower kelp jn the summer on surface lures. Seems they're willing to chase up from the depths as well even when the water isn't that warm.
Good session - I've not been there since last summer but hopefully we will get back up there once my daughter's exams have finished in June. We did spot a couple of cottages for sale on Skye, so that's a discussion on the table at the moment...
Enjoy the rest of your stay and safe journey when you travel back.
Ooh, a cottage up there sounds really exciting! I've just sold my house and am looking to move north of the border, although not quite as far north as Skye, unfortunately. Hope the round table discussions sides with you. Tight lines👍🎣
@@SlippyLimpets We will keep our place in Cramlington but, at the moment, discussion is ongoing regarding three main options: a cottage on Skye, one in Dumfries & Galloway, or a farm in Portugal. My daughter and I want somewhere where we can go any time we like; just walk in and it's already set up and ready to go.
Good luck with your move - I moved my entire house on my own last summer, just to prove to myself that I could. Never again...
Few nice fish Nathan. The hardest part. all that climbing ,but the scenery was great 😊
The climbing is the easy part, it's the steps back up that are killer 🤣
Gan on yarsel Nathan,some great fish,great video,enjoyed,Ally
Thanks Ally, glad you liked it👍🎣
Aye great m8
Great sport, if you want a good scrap then pollack are always up for one!
Well said. They have to be one of my favourite fish to catch
Great video, even greater fishing! Loved all of your Skye trip, looking forward further adventures. Best wishes Gordon.
Thanks Gordon. I'm spending a couple of weeks back in Northumberland and then hopefully off to the outer Isles for a week. Tight lines👍🎣
Some nice sized fish, looks like a cracking spot, makes me want to get back to Ardnamurchan and chuck some lures around
Not fished there, but it does look fishy!
@@SlippyLimpets stayed at the lighthouse cottage at Ardnamurchan point a few times and in Kilcoen, there's a lot of fishing marks to choose from around there, lures and baits, you'll have to treat yourself to a trip up, take your kayak 🛶
Sounds ideal. I might be going to Uist in a couple of weeks, so might take a slight detour and stop off for a night or two. Hope you get back up there
Always interesting to see what works and what works better or not at all.
Yep, very true! 👍
The orange float is one of ours. We have many pots along the front of Niest. Singles and strings 👍
I hope your hauls are as good as the fishing can be.
@@SlippyLimpets it is a great spot for Lobster and also lots of fishing tackle! We get hundreds of lost lures that get snagged on our ropes.. Cheers!
@theorigonaldave Haha, I thought you might, nearly lost a couple myself. Thanks for providing the ground bait 😄
@@SlippyLimpets Ha ha no worries! Not all fishermen are pleased to see us there. Last year a foreign tourist started shouting abuse and casting lead wieghts at us because we were shooting pots in front of him fishing. From the light house down to the point. Wish I got a video of it he lost the plot!
Geez you fish in some precarious places. Love your vids.
As always Spot on!!!!
Loved it!!
Watched so many videos and get worried with the places you climb down!!
Fair play though!!
Thanks Glen, if it helps with the anxiety, just remember that the camera always makes it look a wee bit worse than it actually is. Tight lines👍🎣
2 weeks without a Slippy Limpet video! No pressure but my Sundays are not the same 😂
Sorry Mike, I've been moving house and busy at work so editing has been a struggle. Back on it now though
Canny sizes mate well done 👏
Looks like a cracking session mate!!!
Wasn't too bad mate, just I'd arrived sooner into the ebb
Congrats from Brazil 🇧🇷, nice video bro.
Thanks bro!👍🎣
Absolutely amazing, another great trip out, love watching your chanel.
This is a mark i never got to when i was in skye. I will have to go back and try it.
Shame its a 13 hour drive one way 😮.
Keep up the good work, keeps us all motivated 😀 and
Oooff that's a canny drive for you. Hope you get back soon and get on Neist, it's a cracking place to fish. Tight lines👍🎣
Was my local mark for 5 years had my first double pollock off there 🎉
Would love for that to be my local mark! Think, over the years, my biggest is about 8lb from that mark
Great place to fish ,especially before the tourists arrive, keep up the great vids 👍
One of the best. Tight lines👍🎣
The scent of pollack in the air and a pink lure…😂💪🏻🎣
Surley it's not just me that can smell the fish 🤣
Eeee… Camping Aeropress Coffee and fishing It doesn’t get any better than that (except for not aching!) Cracking video 🙏
Thanks Robert, glad you liked it. Nothing better than a tent based arropress in the morning!
Smashing session. Love the sink lol
Tight lines bud 🎣😎
Yeah, they came in very handy. Tight lines👍🎣
Hi, I’m looking to go pollock fishing next month in Scotland where are some good hot spots ? Thanks
Great session. As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew where you were ;-) Some really nice pollock. I find that my bigger fish there have been on Crazy Eels, firetail jellies, Black minnows. In the Autumn there are massive shoals of coleys there that hit any metal.
I knew you would have 😉 When I got home I looked through my records, they reminded me that SP's always outfished metals at that mark.
Nice one mate looks a great place to have a go i wanted to fish it when i was up but had no idea how to get down and my brother hated the idea haha
It looks worse than it is. Just need to spend some time figuring out the easiest way down. And do it when it's dry. The rocks are like ice when they're wet
That Pollack was mad jumping out but have ya seen them fishing top lures up that way for the pollack? think it was at Staffin? looked immense and seeing that makes you see why, great vid as always just love it there.
Nice one Nathan buddy!
Cheers fellas👊👍🎣
Some nice Pollock bud having a run up there myself in July try it out t
You'll smash it mate, the marks and fishing are right up your street!
I love the smell of N̶a̶p̶a̶l̶m̶ pollock in the morning.
Good morning Neist Point 🤣
Did you say “easy walk “ ! Steps down or up are about 1in 2 . Still dare say I could have done it when I was your age. I’m probably jealous as I am now 80 . Still , will be there in June if only to do a bit of sea eagle watching. Love all your videos. Keep them coming.
That bannister definitely comes in handy for the way back up. Thank you and hope you have a great trip
Looks like you getting sponserd by century , very nice 🎣
I've somehow fluked my way onto their team
@@SlippyLimpets nice one , aint no fluke though 🎣
Top session slippy 👍
Cheers Russell👍🎣
Cracking fish Nathan, and no socsan👍
Talking about birds I could of had the best short ever tonight, I flicked a lure out high, fulmar flew into the line, carried it out 150m, dropped off and a pollack took the lure on the drop, I was after sea trout but I'll take it🤣👍
That would have been amazing to catch on camera! And very lucky too, whenever a bird flies into my line it ends up getting wrapped up and I end up with cut hands from the little critters pecking me. Tight lines mate👍🎣
Had me soon as I seen the name @SlippyLimpets bloody genius
Thank you
I notice you have studs in what look like trail running or approach shoes buddy? I wear my old trail running shoes once they're done over stocking foot waders, I tend to slip about the riverbed a bit, I never thought the sole would be deep enough or would hold a stud?
I do the same with my old trail running shoes, but I choose a model with pretty deep cleats. Also, I use the brand Supertrak, which makes studs with different length screws so can normally get away with the shorter version- 1100 I think. I also stick a bit of silicone adhesive on the thread when screwing them in to help stop them coming out. Hope this helps👍
@@SlippyLimpets Fantastic buddy, I'll give it a bash. Tight lines fella.
I will be on vacation in Glendale this September. I'm coming over from across the pond, the States. I plan on fishing here and Loch Pooltiel. What lures should I stock up on? I was thinking about bringing some metals I use here and am familiar with but I don't know if it'd be worth it. Kastmasters, Hopkins Shorty and Hopkins NO=EQL, and Crippled Herring. It seems like I want things that are long and thin, but would the shorter and fatter ones like the Kastmaster or Hopkins Shorty be useful?
What a lovely place to spend a vacation. Metals can be very productive for pollack and I'm a big fan of the shorter, fatter style- more like slow jigs because pollack love to hit lures on the drop- but you need to get low down in the water column and the current can be vicious and will move your lure past you before you can actually start a retrieve. Saying that, soft plastics outfished metals on this trip 4/1 so it might be worthwhile bringing a few heavier shads/paddle tails. Hope this helps
@@SlippyLimpets Great info. Thanks for letting me know. I am used to fishing an inlet where there is current that can be strong depending on the tide. The depth there is about 5 meters. It sounds like I'll be fishing deeper than that over there.
You really need to watch "bushman and blue" for survival tips and how to do a comfortable camp.
I do watch them, but not sure what you mean, though, this is my luxury setup?
Nice 1 on the pollack bud looks nice up there a live in Scotland and have never been up there road trips on the cards soon like. Tight lines 👍
Hope you enjoy it when you do!
What strength line....mono or braid....were you using ? Even if I can’t do it, I’ll be with my grandson and he might fancy it.
I fish quite light to what is considered the norm at 12lb braid with a 20lb leader, but 20lb braid is considered standard.
great video. Very informative and entertaining. Ty
Thank you 😊
Hi mate, another great video. Can I ask what the jacket you wear is? I'm after a lightweight hooded fishing jacket for a bit of rock fishing and that one looks just perfect. Tight lines.
Hi mate, it's one of my old Gore-Tex mountaineering jackets from Outdoor Research. The material is the main thing, and most outdoor brands use it for their higher end coats. eVent is another good option and a wee bit cheaper than Gore-Tex. Hope this helps
Cool video 😎😎😎 👍 What Spinning test you can recommended to catch bass?
Thanks. I use 12lb for the vast majority of my fishing
I'm fishing this mark on Thursday. I'll be on my own, i'm 48 but I got unstable angina at the moment, so can't do anything too taxing with respect to climbing. I'm guessing nearer the harbor has easiest routes to rocks?
Hi Jamie, the harbour has pretty easy access. Also past the lighthouse on the north coast, there's some easier access marks along there. Hope this helps
@@SlippyLimpets Thank you. Confidence restored. Looking forward to it.
Once watched a couple idiots go for a swim at the point of where your at while there was a massive rip current just out a bit i stopped fishing just to see if they'd get swept outwards 😂
FM I wonder what they'd been smoking to think that was a good idea!
@@SlippyLimpets 🤣🤣🤣 just leaving tonight to go for a blast as well if your up there tight lines 👍
Brilliant video. You mentioned studs: do you have any tips for footwear on this type of terrain?
I always use approach shoes, they are designed for scrambling around on rocks and have sticky rubber soles. The only problem with them is when the rock is wet or there's any seaweed on it, and studs help then. The down side to studs is that they reduce friction on dry rock. Ideally, I'd have a pair of shoes without studs for when I know it's going to be dry and a pair with studs for rainy days. Glad you like the vid and hope this helps
Hey nice video again, thanks. I visited a few times this site but have not fished there yet. where can you camp? down the lighthouse or on top of the cliff near the parking?
On top of the cliff nearer the parking is much flatter and easier to camp. We camped up there 2 weeks ago but very very windy at night! Had a lot of success with pollack so was worth the wind!
I've never camped there but the weather can be savage. I camped down near the Sligachan Hotel. If you do camp there then I'd say the top is best place. Very busy though
The new rod's v bendy Nathan, how do you rate it v the Tailwalk?
I'm liking it. It is very progressive, but it's actually quite similar to the Tailwalk in that respect, and just how I like my rods. I'm not one for the pokey rod trend. It is a tad long for some rock marks, though
I would absolutely love to come up there to film. Great content
It is a brilliant place to fish and film, canny hike from North Wales though. Thanks Carl
@@SlippyLimpets it is but I’m in Oldham so not as far, worth the trip tho.
Im heading to skye tomorrow with my 2 kids. Can you recommend any good marks that is easy to get to for the boys?
Beautiful video. Where is this place?
It's the Isle of Skye in North West Scotland.
Very nice video. Nice catches. 😮
Cheers matey 😊
Orca would be a good catch... I'd have to think about how for awhile...
Trying to unhook an Orca would scare the crap out of me. I might feel a wee bit guilty too
What size tide was this?
I’m wanting to go but I’ve heard you need a low size tide
It was a mid-sized tide, you can fish on big tides, but ideally at a mark where you can cast into an on coming current
Beautiful fish, do you ever eat them?, they taste great I thought
I'm not that keen on pollack. I'll keep a cod or bass every now and then, though
Good days fishing
I love Scotland and nice Scottish people, could you write down that place name please? Thanks for great video
It's a place called Neist Point
@@SlippyLimpets thanks
Ur game as a bager good fishing mate
Thanks mate👍🎣
you should do ok them pots will be baited and fetch the fish in.good idear fishing around pots marra.
Aye, they're great for attracting the fish, just a bit of a nightmare losing lures on the ropes
Nice vid mate
I'd be happy with that catch Nathan £35 a Kilo would pay for the fuel. Reckon the bait holders were in fact ashtrays from the Nephilim. Oh wait, the wife says no more beer coz it's a school night. See you next time.
Haha, cracking comment. Hope you managed to sneak one more drink in before bedtime🤣 tight lines, Martin👍🎣
Have you been on an episode of fish locker or has John lock been fishing with you??
I've been fishing with John down in Cornwall, but he didn't make a video. Instead I made 2 videos which are on my channel. One was shark fishing using spinning gear and the other was a multi- species day on the boat.
I'll have to take a look. He does good videos like yourself he explains his tactics each time so you know what he's fishing just like you showing your flies n lures, it's all great information 👍
Thanks you for that, it's seems like a bit of a privilege to be compared to a channel as big as John's. Hope you enjoy them
