  • We found an amazing looking spot to lure fish for pollack, but the problem was that it was about 8km to get to it with no footpaths. The wind continued to blow and we couldn't find a safe kayak launch spot for the so we decided to walk it.
    I've been lucky enough to fish in some very remote parts of the UK but this one tops the list by a long way!
    This is the fourth video of an 8 day trip lure fishing for big pollack on the Outer Hebrides.

    What a fantastic session in those dramatic surroundings, well done in that endurance fishing epic. I had the same experience with a seal at west tarbert, mull of Galloway. Had a Pollock on when something grabbed it, fought it for about 8mins, then it let go. Got the Pollock up with deep scars on it, but never saw what attacked it. Looking forward to yous out in the kayak if conditions allow. Tight lines, Arthur.

    Amazing place Nath. Enjoyed watching your epic battle with that seal bud. Just reminded me of the same experience at the disused old quarry, Berry Head many years ago, when we had to real in as fast as we could to secure our catch before it was snatched away, resulting in a few lures lost. Oh the memories. Thanks again for the great vlog. All the best to you and Louis, and of course his dog.

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're sneaky like that. The seals at a particular mark on the Mull of Galloway have learned not to take the hooked fish, they wait until they're thrown back. Saves on lure loss but makes a mockery of catch and release. Glad you liked it and thanks as always Adz.

    I enjoy your videos and I do a lot of this style fishing...totally relate to your 'issue' regarding getting to that mark....it looked really good. One way to get to these spots is to take an abseil rope and light climbing harness. Learning to abseil safely is easy enough. Then figure out a method of ascending a single line. An arborists foot ascender and any progress capture/rope grab will get you back up the rope easily enough. A stout tree is a good place to learn the techniques :) I'm a tree surgeon and have been rock climbing for 20 years - trust me it's worth learning these skills! There is a rock mark on Skye that I've just been to that can only be accessed by abseil...what a days fishing! I live in County Durham and would be happy to meet up and give you some lessons haha :)

      Thanks for the comment mate, appreciate the time it must have taken you. As someone who has rock and ice climbed throughout Europe for 20 years+, what your saying makes perfect sense. I've got all of the kit needed, it's just that I can't be bothered to carry it along with the camera kit i carry😂 I've got my eye on a few marks near the MOG that require roped access so you may see some footage shortly. @SlippyLimpets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fishing on Skye is great. In terms of tackle, I'd recommend as light/narrow diameter that you can get away with, helps with any wind and the strong current. I use 12lb 8 strand tied with an FG knot to 8ft of 20 lb-ish flouro. Lure wise, it depends where you're fishing but soft plastic shads and eels seem to outfish metals. But I always carry some 40g Razor Claw Silver Minnows just incase the wind is howling or the soft plastics aren't working. Hope this helps and you have a mint time. Tight lines👍🎣

    New to youtube and your content. I hope my questions can be answered. Do you ever keep and cook what you catch? Do you ever feel scared when looking out to sea? Do you have any opinion on salmon being farmed, do you like corned bef hash, do you like birdlife, do you ever have a dram?

      Welcome to the channel! Yes I keep some fish. I never feel scared when looking out to see but do treat it with respect. I don't like salmon farms. Love corned beef hash, birds and a wee Islay. Think that's all them

    Eyup Nathan. If you'd put this up as 'I caught a hairy mermaid'. The first person footage of the line screaming, the gnawed fish, a bit of creative editing, add some out of focus shots of Lewis clingfilmed from the waist down and thrashing about in the bath a la 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' with that jumbo lure in his chops. It would have gone huge. You could have retired on that one.

    • @SlippyLimpets

      Alreet Dave, Brilliant. Love it. Been years since I've seen FaL but know the exact scene you mean. Lewis and me are away for 10 days at the end of the week- I'll pack the cling film and see if he's up for re-creating that scene😂

    Your videos would be much more enjoyable if you mentioned the place you're fishing and you never mention the species of fish you're catching or show real close-ups of them. It's a bit frustrating and CV I'd like to know how far you're casting or see the lure landing in the water. Just a few ideas to improve on the videos, thanks!

    Often wondered what we are meant to do if we hook into a seal. Any thoughts ? Don’t fancy trying to play it and land it. Don’t like the idea of leaving it with lure stuck into it.

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a dilemma all sea anglers have. IMO, play the fish as hard as possible and the best outcome is either what happened to me in this vid, or the normally the seal bites the body off the fish and you get your lure back with the remaining fish head. You've been really unlucky if you actually hook a seal

    • @i-Mac85
      @i-Mac85 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speaking from experience as someone who has hooked a seal on more than one occasion whilst spinning. All 3 times the lure has been on the outside of the face of the seal & it surfaced in front of me and brushed it out of its face with it's flipper, unsure of the damage it done but the seal got the lure off regardless. I generally fish with the barbs crushed on my trebles; for ease of releasing any fish, this almost certainly would have aided the seal in these instances. I imagine if you're fishing feathers however it probably wouldnt have been able to do this.

    • @dmp2000uk
      @dmp2000uk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@i-Mac85 I crush the barbs for similar reasons. Slightly worse hook-up rate but at least the inedible fish go back with less damage. I also replace trebles with singles.
      Once or twice I’ve had a seagull dive for my surface lure and nearly had the experience of sky playing a bird. They are big vicious things and apart from anything else didn’t want to look a pranny in front of on-lookers so was pleased I retrieved the lure out the way in time.

    • @i-Mac85
      @i-Mac85 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dmp2000uk unfortunately I've also had the experience of a seagull kite 😂 absolute nightmare to get the hooks out of them. Also had a guillemots & even cormorants, they're both equally as vicious although they didn't take to the sky which made getting them in a bit easier!

    Lrf is rediculous, if you use a fairly heavy rod like a pier or bass rod then fish are easily landed. Hate the sound of braid when it's being reeled in. Braid is stupid.
