  • Willie, Sarah and their dog, Jack Spaniels, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to 'Live The Skye Life'!
In this episode, the Skyelifers investigate their lobster pots for the first time - but will we they be having a seafood supper or settling for beans on toast..?!
And a curious pod of Dolphins show up to make their TH-cam debut too!
Plus, there's foraging in the hedgerow and another building project for Willie in the garden.
Thanks & see you in the next video!

You should consider a lanyard to the engine, if you fell or got caught in rigging your boat would be far away. Someone passed locally unfortunately recently with something similar. Just a suggestion.

    Hi guys
Hope your both well, just had to say that we both Eddie and I enjoy your videos very much, we live in Morayshire so visit Skye often, yesterday was one of those days which was a glorious day we had a great time roaming around on our motorbike. We stopped off at Cafe Cuil have been looking at Sarah's beautiful artwork on etsy and ment to order but treated myself to 2 A5 prints thistle and highland coo (saved a bit on postage ha ha) yes and the food was good at the café.
We had a great day on Skye 370 miles round trip it wasn't that busy which was great, you both live in one of Scotlands great places.
Well done on your Videos look forward to watching more.

Last autumn when my daughter and I were on Skye I brought a few bags of apples with us from our tree. We picked blackberries on Skye and I made loads of jam during the week we were on the island. We have one jar left (only because I hid it from my daughter) but your video reminded me and I will dig out of the pantry and bake some fresh bread to serve it on.
Good result from the pots - I find the more you provide for yourself the happier you get 👍

I love your channel and watching you make a new life on Skye, so please do not take my comment as being personal or offensive: Compassionate Chefs kill the lobster first by inserting a knife between the cervical vertebrae which severs the spinal column. Lobsters and crabs have the same nervous system as cats! Please always kill them before cooking. Wishing you many more successful fishing expeditions.

I’m not a fisher, so I’m confused…why do you throw back fish that are dead? Is it for the seagulls? I assume they were dead bc they were floating when you tossed them in. I do understand that they were too small to keep.
Also, I just have to tell you, I’m a Canadian, but watching your life on Skye makes me wish I too could live in such a gorgeous place, literally right outside your door. You must feel so blessed - even with the crappy winters. 😆. (I’m also aware of crappy winters)😉.

    • @livingtheskyelife
      @livingtheskyelife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

The small fish that were thrown back were the bait from the lobster pots. They’d already been in the pots for a few days, so they just went to the gulls.

Glad you were looking forward to the video!
The wee flower you mention, I don’t know it’s name either. But I’ve been hinting to Sarah to do a painting of it! Let’s hope she does, as it’s a beautiful flower!

I think the flower is a crocosmia or Montbretia

It’s a crocosmia, ( not sure if I spelt the name correctly) they spread very quickly but easy to dig up and move as they grow from little bulbs. My gardens full of them, I love them

I tried growing the crocosmia but my garden was too hot and dry. They are beautiful.

Will & Sarah, the humble dogfish are also delicious and plentiful around the entire UK coast, you have to prep them quite quick to avoid them spoiling but some searching on trusty old TH-cam can explain that. Well done on first lobster.

Loved watching your fishing trip out on the boat! You got quite a catch, lobster and mackerel, well done! It was great seeing Jack polishing off that lovely cooked mackerel, he had it eaten in seconds! Your lobster looked delicious also!😋

Another great vlog. I slipped on wet wooden steps last year and fractured my skull and broke 3 ribs.
Please fasten chicken wire onto your bridge.
When it's wet or😊 frosty, it will become a slippery dip. I'm just concerned about your safety.

So Sarah.... When I go picking blackberries on the southern Oregon Coast here in the USA, I take my very high tech super complicated picking tool with me. I took an old broom handle (wooden - do they still make those brooms?), and screwed a large hook in one end of the handle - the very round end. I can use it to lift a branch to reach the berries underneath, or hook a branch and pull it towards me to pick.
I have far fewer scratches from the brambles!!
Give it a try - works great. Love those berries

Yay more catching and preparing food for personal consumption.
Summer seems to be winding down here too. At least according to our cats. I look forward to learning from Sarah to enjoy autumn.

It’s so different today than it was 40 years ago when my mother would make seafood. My father would buy crabs for the kids and lobster for the adults. I personally don’t like any seafood and never did. Nowadays, in the United States they import from other countries and catch what they can here. I don’t trust the waters here because of all of the oil spills and storms that have had many deaths in the water. Have a great week! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜

Great stuff! Actually some wild cooking eg prepping and filleting the fish would really interesting viewing. Maybe a parallel channel?
