  • I've been eyeing Panasonic ever since I was able to use one about a year ago. Now that they’ve fixed the autofocus issue, I hopped on it.
    I was blown away! Not even by the autofocus but by all the other features! Honestly the Canon R5C simply made no sense to me and after using cameras, even more so!
    The fact that the footage could match so easily with my Canon c70 blows me mind!

      @@hereweare9011 my take: a full frame sensor is just too slow by default to get 60 fps I think. This is also seen by the rolling shutter for example. A smaller sensor can be read faster (even with same MP). By creating special memory buffers on top of a full frame sensor it is possible to fix this but this makes the sensor much more expensive.
      Cropping > reading less pixels > faster read speed for 60 fps

    Man, Sony has a lot to learn from Panasonic when it comes to adding important video-centric features. The FX3 carries the “Cine-Line” moniker l, yet it lacks important cine cam features. Why can’t sony add shutter angle, false colour, waveforms and most importantly, open gate?
    In a market where cameras overall perform pretty closely, I think these features should not be overlooked. These features really add to the overall experience and usability of the camera and I feel like Sony is just sitting on their hands from being the mark leader.

      The fx3 edges it out in low light and Ofcourse resolution. The 4K 60 crop isn’t fun BUT
      The lowlight on the s5ii is actually incredible. Can get usable images at 12800 iso better than any other brand besides Sony.
      The main benefits over the fx3 are more cinema features like shutter angle, waveform and a whole layout that’s just better suited for cinema (anamorphic, guides, basically no cripple anything)
      The ibis is HUGE. Makes handheld shooting and absolute breeze and makes the sony ibis look, for lack of better words, stupid 😅

    I have both the S5ii & R5C, in my experience I've found the Canon to produce a sharper 4k image, assuming from the 8k downsample. I also have found the R5C footage in CLOG3 to be very easy to get the look I want. I do photo and video so it was a perfect option for me. I really love the S5ii also for the price, it does produce great looking results, the 4k 60 crop is the only annoying thing but it can be worked around. I also may need to play around with some diffrent profiles but for VLog at 4,000 iso the image can get a bit noisy if the scene is too dark especially it seems when in the 4k 60 crop its extra noticeable. Typically pulling the shadows back down in post fixes it, but then you lose that dynamic range in the shadows. I have not had this issue with the canon, it comes out so clean and noise free.

    Thanks for the review! I see your serious with the cinematography.. you have a C70 and Red camera..
    I get what you shared about the s5ii over the r5c.. but honestly I feel like the strongest PROS for the R5c where left out of this video and more bias.
    The s5ii being $1800 right now and having 6k open gate with way better battery life and alot of the pros you mention is killer BUT.
    Where that extra price came in for the R5C which is as of now $3600! Is the 8K at 60p full frame (s5ii caps at 6k 30p full frame).. also the 4k 120p for super slow motion, that every wedding videographer wants / s5ii caps at 4K 60p.. lastly is the built in 12bit Internal Raw recording! This is the biggest feature which other cameras costing $6k have.. whereas the S5ii and other like Eos R6 mkii and A7s3 can do BUT externally with a big clunky monitor/ recorder.
    And most buyer mindset getting the R5C will want to stabilize with gimbal or slider or tripod
    So just to add these so people can choose their weapons wisely.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I very much so do not think 8k 60p nor the 12 bit canon raw which has RIDICULOUSLY large file sizes is relevant to most anybody.
      The raw hardly has more benefits and is huge and who really needs 8k 60. Once you’re in those resolutions you can only shoot in raw so the file sizes again are insane. Also, idk many wedding filmmakers shooting in 4k 120
      This is something I definitely considered and ruled it out entirely because of those reasons. Not having a crop at 4k 60, which most people would actually use, is unfortunate and a benefit of the r5c

    • @onfirecinemas
      @onfirecinemas 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well first.. how much bigger is it than BRAW which I shoot on my 6k Pro for commercials and promo reels.. t
      The raw files are NOT as big as CDNG Raw as in the older cameras with raw.. Braw and canons Raw Light I'm sure are NOT big.. and they have multiple compressions to cater to those with limited space.
      Maybe I'm coming from camera that already shoot Raw and have SSD to record to vs. Those without and it's almost the new wave to have SSD as more cinema cameras are recording to SSD, specifically for purpose of big raw files.
      2nd, again when you say who needs 8k 60 raw.. sound like you tubers who main purpose is to upload to TH-cam and shoot less priority gigs.
      Filmmakers who choose arri, red, black magic SHOOT RAW.. so the Canon r5c again is catering to filmmakers just in a Body that is appealing to you tubers who are getting disappointed because it's actually a cinema camera.

      @@AnthonyRodriguezz not when I'm deciding on Lumix or Sigma for video social experiments and landscape and macro and portraits. I'm new and think the 24mm to 70mm s pro then either the 70 to 200mm 300m lumix vs the I think it's 100mm to 300m sigma.
      I have the Panasonic s5ii otw. Can't decide on lense. I just had my first kid too so I want to film her and take photos of her alot too.
      And what about the 24mm to 120mm lumix.

  • @sergiypervun
    @sergiypervun ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Talking about slow motion BTW... Lumix S5II and S5IIX don't have new Phase Detect AF in 1080p full frame 50,60,100 and 120 FPS but only old Contrast AF which is the biggest disappointment... So for some reason people who prefer to shoot 1080p FF in slow-mo from 50 to 120 fps they should do that with old glitchy Contrast base AF. Same for all of those who were hoping to upscale 1080p 50-120 fps to 4k - no PDAF. And taking into account it's a hybrid video-oriented camera, it looks like without a firmware update in the next 1-3 months almost perfect camera becomes garbage.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To say it’d be “garbage” without a firmware update is a bit dramatic but I hear you, that’s definitely annoying!
      I’m confident that will be fixed. Also shooting in 1080 so you can update is not the best workflow in general but I understand

  • @juandjo707
    @juandjo707 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Actually your failure to adjust the autofocus shows how it works, and it looks very good to me. I don't notice hunting or pulsation, it works very reliably, and for someone who doesn't wave his hands in front of his face while talking, this is quite ok, especially if he's showing some items and needs fast and precise autofocus when he puts them in front of the lens.
    At this price, Panasonic has no competitors at the moment. I also found out in some video that canon ef lenses with a sigma adapter have excellent autofocus on S5II, as a native lens.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only competitor would be the canon r8 buy even then the s5ii edges it out in a lot of areas!
      Also, the only reason the AF didn’t look as bad as it was is because I overlayed it with a lot of B-roll 😅😂

    • @followtheboat
      @followtheboat ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the Sigma adapter for Sony, (though I shoot video on Panasonic). The EF lenses work great with decent AF but just watch the focus breathing which, for video, is pretty horrible. Other than that I can't recommend the adapter enough.

    • @AnthonyRodriguezz
      @AnthonyRodriguezz  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@followtheboat the focus breathing has to do with the lens your using rather than the adapter!
      Also, I don’t care too much about focus breathing unless I’m doing critical narrative work and that almost never happens!
