Great video. As someone who owns and loves the camera, I'm with you 100% on the touch tracking. It's the single biggest frustration with the camera as a professional tool. If the sorted that I would be so stoked.

AND while the S5II may work for you :) HERE my beef with the Panasonic S system as a filmer and photographer. So while the S series may work for you :) For me it has one >>MORTAL FLAW<<< and that >>MORTAL FLAW<< is that the S cameras do not allow to automatically adjust AUTOMATIC EXPOSURE when using MF or AF/S mode. They lock AE and so when you do a run and gun reportage video or photo your AE is locked to ONE VALUE as soon as you keep the shutter half pressed resulting in over and underexposed photos and footage :) However much I love everything about my S1/S1H/S5II in all practicality they are USELESS ( so have to go back to my Sony ) ... honestly I do not know how Panasonic can get away with such a glitch :) NOT A SINGLE REVIEWER HAS POINTED THIS OUT : D

Its more criticism than it is complaining.Criticizing something, you're saying , "heres whats wrong with it", but when you complain you're saying, "I'm not happy about this. Saying, "this camera isn't for you" is a poor excuse of a camera that obviously has many problems. Im not faulting anyone for this, but there is a difference.

I'd love to know how you process your DNG files from your Ricoh. I also own Lumix but shoot Ricoh GR for any quick, street, and bts things I need.

Love the dissenting view, ha! The one issue I have is: TH-camrs who call all of these smaller cameras “everyday carry”. They’re still really big! You might as well get a bigger camera that has better ergonomics. Love the Ricoh because I think it is an ACTUAL everyday carry.

Stop complaining and buy a Sony A7Cii instead.

Will the Lut Lab work with the S5II?

I was kind of excited to see what looked like another Fuji X100VI competitor pop up on the market and then I saw the lens they paired it with and just laughed. I have no idea who this camera is made for. (Btw the math is f/3 on the Fuji). Multiply the aperture and the focal length by the crop factor and you come up with the equivalent.

At first, I was very skeptical with the Lumix's autofocus because, back then, I didn't know occasionally no camera is capable to properly autofocus at f11+. Now that I don't go over f9 (except when I expicitly want nice sunstars), I have had no major AF problems with the S5 II at all. Actually, now that I've shot at a major local sport event (Motonet GP) at 6K Open Gate and, after realizing I had tons of visitors from India looking for their women's 100m hurdles-winning star Jyothi Yarraji, I've grabbed around 25 6K 30p video frames showing her two runs. I stood directly in front of the finish line and used the 20-60 kit lens at 60mm. Almost all frames turned out to be in focus. Absolutely stellar performance for such an affordable combo! (Zone focusing with centered area and human recognition enabled. Camera on the DJI RS4 gimbal; I've followed (kept in the center) the winner during the shooting; that is, her.)

No EVF is the dealbreaker for me

I wouldn't call the S9 a flexible camera. Flexibility is having a hot shoe. The S9 is specifically targeted to social media creators with disposable income. Panasonic know this and know the positive implications to this. You can also see with all the early adaptor/testers that main bullet points are "easy, fun and full frame". Wait for the next release, I'm pretty sure it will be an un-crippled version of the S9.

the camera is not bad but its not good enough for the price. only electronic shutter for such a slow sensor is a big miss, other issues I see - almost no customisation for the buttons and the recording limits are crazy restrictive. having fullframe and great IBIS in such a small body is amazing tho. Seems fun to use but has its issues

LUMIX lab will be usable for the S5II’s and g9ii from what I’ve seen. That said…im an S5II user and I’m just confused by the s9. I’d be interested if it were $899. I guess that means it’s just not for me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Lumix just has disappointed its lovers, which expected something different. And besides that, like you mentioned, the S9 concept seems weird without proper lenses … and a headphone jack … and …

I’ll have to disagree on this one. I’m a photographer, for video, the S9 is much better than the x100vi (though I have seen a short film shot on the x100vi that looks amazing). But for photography, there are too many limitations, EVF, the shutter, lack of controls, size, flash, and when you factor in lenses, price, as FF glass is expensive. Then you have little things, like a built in ND, it’s a good f2, a 40mb sensor, yes apsc, but the results are great. So I’m not sold on the S9, FF isn’t the be all of cameras.

Even with its shortcomings, it's going to be an excellent camera. Great for those weekend trips or vacations where you do not want to carry around a pro body.

honestly, I could accept the cameras limitations with a solid pancake lens that had autofocus. It's pretty niche, but that could be ok for a lot of us.

its a $1200 camera without the EVF and mechanical shutter. Gonna wait till its nice and cheap on the used market. guarantee it wont hold value

I think we will see a 200 dollar discount or a bundle deal with a fast lens soon. Why they skipped the mechanical shutter is the big confusing omission for me.

Looking forward to some future autofocus ff2.8 pancake lenses and then I'm in! I want to leverage the awesome PDAF.

we get it you don't like the x100 cameras or these 'hipster' cams. Don't agree friend, this is not an x100vi killer, nor is it a GRiii killer. The biggest reason to get those cameras are the performance to SIZE. Sure the S9 has a small camera body, but attach any f2 lens on there and it becomes an ergonomic nightmare. You're not gonna find an f2 lens that's even close to the size... Unless you like a small camera body with a cannon sticking out of it, sure. Built in ND, leaf shutter (oh yes, the s9 is only electronic shutter, bummer there for photographers) no flash (big deal when considering leaf shutter sync), no viewfinder, worse build quality, and awesome, you get an f8 manual focus only lens which is the only lens you can get the gets close to size. Appreciate your video, I also don't think the s9 should get as much drama as it does. I just think you're missing the mark on why people buy cameras like the x100vi or the griii in the first place. Yes hipsters buy them, but there's nothing like them in the market when you consider size to performance. You want a full frame sensor, then you're going to have to make sacrifices. I'd say the closest full-frame to compete is the Sony RX-1R... Would be rad if they updated that camera. Looking at what you do too, you're more of a hybrid guy that does both photo and video. The x100 cameras are geared towards photography, so I can see why you feel the way you do about those cameras. All good, but no friend, you don't sell your x100 or gr cameras for an s9... Unless maybe they're a hybrid shooter like yourself that needs a B cam

These were my thoughts exactly. I also have the Ricoh GRiiix and this (at a lower price point) would have turned my head. I am happy with the Ricoh for now. Ta for the video.

I got to shoot with it for a day, image looks just like my s5IIX. I agree the price is too high and Lumix needs to let us overheat the camera, we can use those tilta fans. My biggest complaint is the lens options for L mount. We need real pancake lenses otherwise a small camera is kinda pointless with huge lenses

Bro, thank you for making this video. Likewise as an owner of Multiple S5 II, who shoots multiple brands…. I couldn’t agree more. Honestly it’s pretty evident, this hate wasn’t ready about the S9, this was hate directed towards LUMIX by people who were dying for the opening to go after LUMIX. This was all unnecessary.

This isn't a real X100V competitor. You can't substitute with the S9 because you are going to get into banding situations in low light scenarios that the X100V doesn't have to face- for photography. Also the X100VI has a decent IBIS even one stop behind. The X100V keeps small, the S9 does not once you add a reasonable lens. In a video context, maybe makes more sense but what I said is part of the issue at least for photographers. The challenge to me is why not an iPhone for video content creation. It can also bake LUTS and Apple has shown it can clearly be used in professional videos (as they have used it in their latest company events).

But the other cameras have a hot flash and a mechanical shutter.....I pick the. Sony line up over the Panasonic any day..My current choice ...A .pair of used (A7c mark 1)...Now if Panasonic would get busy with. the M43 upgrade to the GX9 I would be very happy. cheers

You know what is the positive of this discussion. It is that I found a lot of new You Tubers like you and subscribed to you. That is the positive.

I can see why this camera can be the right choice for some people, but it's definately not the right choice for "basically everyone". Just for example in my case. I rarely take videos, so I don't care about all the video features. But I care about still photography in various enviroments outside. So because of 3 missing features this camera is definately nothing for me: 1. No mechanical shutter in connection with a sensor that doesn't read out very fast. So because of rolling shutter you always are in danger to ruin your shots of fast moving subjects. 2. no weather sealing. I not only shoot in good weather and I don't want to have to worry about my camera in every rain shower. 3. No EVF or optical viewfinder. Photo composition works for me just better with a viewfinder instead of a small LCD. And also when you have only the monitor you get problems in bright sunlight. But I also don't understand the hate and I'm happy about everyone who gets this camera and has fun with it. You just inform yourself what it is missing and if that is important for you. If the missing features are important choose another one and if they aren't important for you, you can get this one.

- Record limits (FHD : 20min in 2024 !! - No mechanical shutter (when an already problematic rolling shutter, YOU MAKE IT WORSE) - No evf - MICRO HDMI in the RIGHT SIDE (even if you wanted to try an external monitor, you simply CAN'T ) - You need to buy additional grip (the design and functionality of the camera is garbage), I refuse to describe any more. ALL THIS ONLY 300 bucks less than the s5ii!!! Congratulations to Panasonic. And the biggest congratulations for the innovative 26mm "lens". Everyone who loves Panasonic, this is definitely what we've been waiting for...

I agree for the most part and I think the price is the only main issue. With the s5ii and the x Lumix wanted to make a super competitive priced no brainer camera for L mount to compete with Sony but now they are stuck in a difficult place to price the rest of their lineup. Wonder what their next 4-6k camera will be able to offer to give anyone a reason upgrading from the s5iix But overall I think its a major win for the L mount to now have a super tiny full frame camera in the lineup and nice haircut btw

what do you think about the new 35mm? i need something for like mid range (close up and upper body one person shots). which one should i get if i can only afford one of those 4 (3 of the set and the new 35mm)?
