My guess is that they originally added the fairy because someone realised that Gnasty Gnorc wears armour and that the player might somehow think he was immune to Sypro's regular flame. However, having the Superflame powerup makes little difference in this level (apart from opening a locked box) and isn't technically needed to damage the boss, so it was later removed. In any case, it's always silver armour, not gold, that provides fire immunity and Spyro talks about how much he wants to torch Gnasty throughout the game, so the fairy was a solution to a problem that didn't really exist.
When I heard the Artisan's homeward music in Gnasty's boss fight, it reminded me of how Sunrise Spring's theme plays during the first Sorceress fight in Spyro 3. It was super unfitting and I have no idea why they went with that!
Super, super late reply, but the reason that track was used was because the actual intended track was incomplete before the holiday deadline. As mentioned before, later versions of the game had the final track, along with bug fixes.
Everything is better with this version of this level apart from the glitchy Gnasty and the Artisans music, after seeing this with the extra jems, the extra platforms to jump across, the extra enemies, the slightly different rout that Gnast takes and the kiss power up i really cannot understand why they removed them... i know the kiss power up isn't really needed but it makes Gnasty seem more powerful and that's a big complaint i see constantly about this level that Gnasty is too pathetic and weak.
That fairy sort of makes sense being here. Gnasty Gnorc looks like he's wearing armour so it would make sense if Spyro's normal flame breath wouldn't hurt him.
Yeah, I think it's pretty late. In terms of time it's actually about 90% to the release date, but there's also crunch time to think about - by this point, the developers were probably rushing at 3x speed trying to get the game finished in time. =P
I really wish they kept those platforms in the final version! It looked really cool. But the way Gnasty jumps from platform to platform looks really awkward, xD
I figure what they could have done was make the superflame ability timed so that the player has to catch up and flame Gnasty before the powerup runs out.
Ah, well, Insomniac tends to do the levels first, then the cutscenes, music and sound effects later. Compared with the first levels, though, Gnasty Place was quite glitchy. There was that time when Gnasty Gnorc forced me into the lava THAT WAS HIS FAULT, and by the time I reached the end, boom. Bet? Oh yeah, that.... I can't wait =D
Has anyone else pointed out that Gnasty doesn't shoot his random green lasers? He would do this in the dome area and the final room where he's trapped.
You're pierced gnorc! hahah wait pierced?! i thought it was toast...alll that hype about toasting and torching Gnasty Gnorc and he ends up charging him
Also, where those "platforms" are at 1:58-2:00, the wall is much shorter, allowing you to jump up there and be able to skip that part. In the final, you have to run around the given path because there is a wall in the way.
What were they thinking making the battle easier than this? This actually looks like it's at least a little challenging and would have made the final boss battle in Spyro 1 better. I wish they would have kept this.
1:03 The lighting in this area is different.. It appears more darker I think :P. 1:12 Invert the platforms here. The middle was higher than the outside of this area. 3:58 Those Gnorcs certainly don't appear in the final version. I like this version of Gnasty Gnorc. Maes it more challenging, it was quite easy considering it was the final boss. Good thing they changed that for Riptos Rage.. Two Beta videos in 24 hours? EPIC :3.
I have a question. Would you be able to pull a trick like you did with the hidden powerups you found in Scorch's Pit in Spyro 3 and be able to make that Super Flame Fairy appear in Gnasty's boss battle in the final version of the game? Or did Insomniac remove the fairy from the level completely before the final version was finished?
Don't worry, I have a lot of experience with Spyro hacking. =P I'll get that dragon mouth open somehow; either that, or I'll walk through it if I have to!!
Hmm. I think the chances are that the fairy was completely removed, but I haven't checked; she could still be there. Truth is, though, the fairy doesn't really make a difference at all to the level (besides a locked chest which was removed anyway). That's probably why she was removed. The part that would be fun to bring into the final version would be the changes in the chase route, but that would be reaaally hard to do.
Hi my name is Branden Barbarano I was wondering if I can use your beta footage for my upcoming Let's Play of Spyro The Dragon for my channel. Credit will be given of course
Yeah. =P I think the most appropriate way to explain it would be an invisible jetpack tied to his lower back. But there have been other explanations. =P
yep indeed we will find out :D also that goes to that bet i have made :P I don't know but I kinda expected gnasty's place to be glitchy and changed You know since it's the final boss
This level just seems nasty with gems. I guess you could call it a..."Gnasty Place" :'D /shot. Also, some of the elements they had in the Beta of this level would have been really cool to keep in the final. My personal favorites are the inverted gear platform at the start of the level, the platform jumping Gnasty Gnorc, and the Gnorcs on the retracting platforms at the end. I'm not too big on the infinite flame fairy, though.
Kinda did think this was cool that the fact they had nasty jump onto the pots or what ever those things were thought the last boss should have been a little longer but thats my opinion. LONG LIVE SPYRO !!!
Being too fast in something like that and cause a glitch that way? Well, that's just evil. Sadly I never played the finished version, I just hope that's fixed. xD
- 3:45 Those platforms seem to be retreating into the wall slower than in the final, probably because of the enemies. did the end portal freeze you? D: wow 500 more gems than in the final. Well most of the gem value differences are out of the way. Gnasty's Loot is next? :o
Hmm, that might not make a difference actually - it possibly crashed only because there was no cutscene to load. That's probably the only reason. Well, hopefully!
Hmm I didn't expect the final boss to arrive this fast. Am I missing something? Unfitting music is unfitting. :S - Woweee! The inside area (the dome with multiple paths) gives you 445 gems as opposed to the final's 179 gems. Talk about extra gems. - 2:00 I don't think Gnasty Gnorc jumps on various metal platforms. - 3:06 LOL Is this in the final??? Also, moar gems here! - 445 in the chase area as opposed to the original 221! :o
3:13 Made way too easy in my opinion... 3:44 Gnasty jumping those platforms looks so weird. In the final version it's not like that. 4:01 And don't even try to get me startin' on this one... 4:12 Doesn't he fall forwards rather than backwards when he dies in the final ver.?
I guess they made spyro superflame to really torch gnasty gnorc :P 2:44 lol i guess this boss was meant to be more tricky :D 3:24 lol glitch i guess this beta is sooo unstable that it caused it :D perhaps they were working on that 3:51-3:57 enemies? and they give you only a pearls? that's odd they are not in the final version. Perhaps Gnasty meant to have guards i guess :P 4:04 return home??? apperantly they didn't made an ending sequence to it 4:12 *bash* LOL
Oh, interesting. The Gnorc fight always seemed lacking to me. This reveals why. This original probably seemed like a good idea but was then found to be too disorienting or difficult in playtesting. With that, they removed the essence and left only a hollow chase. Pity. Could you have broken the chest by facing Gnasty and then jumping out of the way as he shoots you? That was my first idea. Doesn’t seem like you can get the angles right, though. Maybe area effects would suffice to break the chest. Okay, I tried to break the fireworks in the release using that method. It doesn’t work. Even if you coerce Gnasty into shooting you while the fireworks block his shot, his green bolt just goes right through. Also no observable area effect when he hits the ground right next to it. Regular chests also won’t budge. Pity again.
Gnasty Place o.o 0:18 absolutely horrible entrance....oh and the camera should let you see Gnasty Gnorc my god the music....*facepalm* 0:21 wtf? 1:03 here there should be a blue effect. but ehy, this red one is so cool! 1:13 wait....where's the higher platform on the middle o.o 1:20 mhh...is this slower? 1:23 O___O EPIC! 1:58 omg! 2:34 lol! ahahhahah ok I can0t describe all of this, just epiccccc 3:06 O_____________O 3:22 he's so slow...lol he jumps like an idiot 3:51 too much epic
Like i said, try to use something like cheat engine to edit the gem total in Gnorc Cove to all 400 and the dragon total in Twilight Harbor to 4/4 and set the total gems to 12000 :P That might let you into Gnasty's Loot
1000 GEMS O.o Well this game is really generous after so many rip offs :D in final there is only 500 Gems 0:19 you enter the level slightly different look up somebody's video and compare 1:03 there is normally the purple sludge in pits not an orange LAVA 1:21 wow infinite superflame fairy now that's different she is not in the final version 1:58-2:09 level have slight make-over (look at those towers and pillars) that is not inthe final version
hmm... indeed there is something about that it seems. oh. and about that bet you probably will do everything to make me lose that bet *sad face* but oh well i asked for it darn it! :P
My guess is that they originally added the fairy because someone realised that Gnasty Gnorc wears armour and that the player might somehow think he was immune to Sypro's regular flame. the boss music was changed in later versions of spyro 3
Sebastian Fierro I like the calm music for the first sorceress fight it fit perfectly showing that it was not the final fight
Well in this case, for this it was probably being used as a placeholder.
It's probably the default/first listed track in the game?
Very delightful and intense music for a final boss battle.
I agree. This version of the boss battle was really cool.
That fairy sort of makes sense being here. Gnasty Gnorc looks like he's wearing armour so it would make sense if Spyro's normal flame breath wouldn't hurt him.
Please, never lose this build.
Huh... fairy and music aside, I prefer this build over the final version.
Yeah, I think it's pretty late. In terms of time it's actually about 90% to the release date, but there's also crunch time to think about - by this point, the developers were probably rushing at 3x speed trying to get the game finished in time. =P

I figure what they could have done was make the superflame ability timed so that the player has to catch up and flame Gnasty before the powerup runs out.
oh why did they remove the fairy in the final version? It would make more sense because Gnasty Gnorc now have a good reason to rum away from Spyro
He didn’t force you in? You flew and charged at him. Of course it knocked you off lol
I wish SO BAD that those platforms were kept in the final game. That was AWESOME.
I hope if they remaster Spyro, they put this version of the boss fight in instead of the final version.
Treetops97 with the remake being announced, I hope they revamp every boss in the game, especially gnasty gnorc
Yeah, that needs to be done in preparation for the next video. Need as many gems as possible! =D
Wow... I think I like this version of the level more.
At 1:58-2:00, those platforms aren't there in the final version.
Also I don't remember those platforms at 2:11.

The platforms around the edge in the first bit aren't sloped.
Also, I don't remember the hallway being that way at 3:21. I remember it being shorter, but of course, I could be wrong.
He actually does do it in the main area at about 1:12, but you're right about the final room.
At 3:17 there isn't a mini- cutscene when Gnasty Gnorc is flamed.
Also Gnasty Gnorc makes no attempts to attack Spyro, he just taunts.
It sounds like when you jump into the portal at the end, the music suddenly gets a lot quieter. I wonder why?
Muahaha... 'and so, his confidence started dropping by the minute...'
EPIC :3.
I wonder what would happen if you'd let the platform slide in with the enemies still on them...?
I have a question. Would you be able to pull a trick like you did with the hidden powerups you found in Scorch's Pit in Spyro 3 and be able to make that Super Flame Fairy appear in Gnasty's boss battle in the final version of the game? Or did Insomniac remove the fairy from the level completely before the final version was finished?
Yep, it did; froze solid as a rock!
Don't worry, I have a lot of experience with Spyro hacking. =P I'll get that dragon mouth open somehow; either that, or I'll walk through it if I have to!!
Also, there's no end portal at the end of the level.

The part that would be fun to bring into the final version would be the changes in the chase route, but that would be reaaally hard to do.
Man.
I hope the bonus level would still be unveiled.
Well this feels somewhat different, if you take a close look at it.
It didn't freeze at the end, did it? O:
How is the background music of Gnasty Gnorc different? I hear the Artisan Home background music on the boss stage.
It's different compared to the final version, where Gnasty Gnorc's music is Gnasty Gnorc's music. =P
Hi my name is Branden Barbarano I was wondering if I can use your beta footage for my upcoming Let's Play of Spyro The Dragon for my channel. Credit will be given of course
Sure go for it :)
At the end, the camera does't move nor does Spyro say "You're toast Gnorc. heheh"
Yeah. =P I think the most appropriate way to explain it would be an invisible jetpack tied to his lower back. But there have been other explanations. =P
4:27 Did it froze?? X_x wow I wonder if there is possibility to exit that level. Did you tried through start menu??
Hmm, I actually haven't thought of that. I'll have to check that out some time!
The Dragon heads are further apart than they are in the later game.
yep indeed we will find out :D
also that goes to that bet i have made :P
I don't know but I kinda expected gnasty's place to be glitchy and changed
You know since it's the final boss

I'm not too big on the infinite flame fairy, though.
How'd I miss that? :S Maybe because of the lack of sound effects. Still, this level actually looks easier than the final, given the absurd shortcut.
Kinda did think this was cool that the fact they had nasty jump onto the pots or what ever those things were thought the last boss should have been a little longer but thats my opinion. LONG LIVE SPYRO !!!
Being too fast in something like that and cause a glitch that way? Well, that's just evil. Sadly I never played the finished version, I just hope that's fixed. xD
What a way to end the video! It's definitely got a lot more glitchy in the last few levels.
Looks like you were wrong about Stone Hill in Twilight Harbor being the least fitting beta song selection in the game.
- 3:45 Those platforms seem to be retreating into the wall slower than in the final, probably because of the enemies.
did the end portal freeze you? D: wow 500 more gems than in the final. Well most of the gem value differences are out of the way. Gnasty's Loot is next? :o
Sorry, 1:03, in the final version of the game, it's lighter. My bad :P.
Hmm, that might not make a difference actually - it possibly crashed only because there was no cutscene to load. That's probably the only reason. Well, hopefully!

Why did the game freeze at the end?
Aaron McGee Because they hadn't programmed the ending in at this point of development.
Hello.
did you play this on a PSX Emulator or a real PS1???
+Bistroix™ Hey there. It's an emulator--the PS1 can't render in HD after all ;)
3:13 Made way too easy in my opinion...
3:44 Gnasty jumping those platforms looks so weird. In the final version it's not like that.
4:01 And don't even try to get me startin' on this one...
4:12 Doesn't he fall forwards rather than backwards when he dies in the final ver.?
Gnasty Gnorc's level only gives you 500 gems in the final game.
I guess they made spyro superflame to really torch gnasty gnorc :P
2:44 lol i guess this boss was meant to be more tricky :D
3:24 lol glitch i guess this beta is sooo unstable that it caused it :D perhaps they were working on that

my god the music....*facepalm*
0:21 wtf?
1:03 here there should be a blue effect. but ehy, this red one is so cool!
1:13 wait....where's the higher platform on the middle o.o
1:20 mhh...is this slower?
1:23 O___O EPIC!
1:58 omg!
2:34 lol! ahahhahah ok I can0t describe all of this, just epiccccc
3:06 O_____________O
3:22 he's so slow...lol he jumps like an idiot
3:51 too much epic
*sprays with a flamethrower*
..Oh wait, I'm making it worse aren't I?
...*sprays again*
>=D
Like i said, try to use something like cheat engine to edit the gem total in Gnorc Cove to all 400 and the dragon total in Twilight Harbor to 4/4 and set the total gems to 12000 :P That might let you into Gnasty's Loot
btw you got all the gems but the ones from "Gnorc Cove" that you was robbed of here
Interesting!
Oh wait, I was wrong on the hallway. Never mind. But as for those platforms at 1:58-2:00, here's some evidence for that.
/watch?v=4pOW_S_HwjA
Why did they release a demo that was basically the entire game. This was back when demos were free
They didn't :P This is unreleased.
4:27 Huh?!
I would LOVE to see you walk through the head :P
No, but I wish I did. =( Maybe in the future, I don't know; I'd need to be lucky!
4:16 lol he doesn't hurt you and there's no movie.... return home! =3 wow 1000 gems o.o
OMG THE GAME FREEZE xDDDD
Yeah. Darn, I can never win, can I? =P
1000 GEMS O.o Well this game is really generous after so many rip offs :D
in final there is only 500 Gems
0:19 you enter the level slightly different look up somebody's video and compare

1:21 wow infinite superflame fairy now that's different she is not in the final version
1:58-2:09 level have slight make-over (look at those towers and pillars) that is not inthe final version
whwhwhat n-n-no way!
ah whatever BRING IT ON! *tommorow i guess* >:D
This would have been much better (except for the music)
This better be the version they put in the reignited game, gnasty is way too pathetic in the original
hmm... indeed there is something about that it seems.
oh. and about that bet you probably will do everything to make me lose that bet
*sad face* but oh well i asked for it darn it! :P
