Scientifically it wasn’t fair to cook all the same time. Each machine works differently and temperature should have been measured.

The best way to use an airfryer for steak is for the initial step of a reverse sear. Season a nice thick steak and place it on its edge, fat cap up (toothpicks might be necessary for balancing). Use the airfryer setting at 300F for 10-15 min for 1.5" or 15-20 min for 2". The steak should be 10F below doneness, the surface will have had moisture removed by the convection fans, and the fat cap will have rendered itself, basting the steak in fat. Sear the steak with your preferred method and enjoy a perfect reverse sear in half the time.
As an owner of the Chefmaker, the chefmaker function is great for juicy doneness, but sucks for crust across the recipes. For the best results, either use the probe cook function or stop the chefmaker recipe at the browning phase and manually finish using the broiler or airfry modes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video not because I like to cook steaks in an air fryer, I would much rather cook them, sous vide, and then sear them in butter with rosemary. But, I have been on the verge of homelessness for about the past three months, and yes, I have a full-time job I’m working hard to get everything caught up, I’ll get there eventually, but for someone like me, living in a camper, wanting a delicious steak, I would absolutely cook a steak in an air fryer, the only thing I would do differently, is, I would treat it like the reverse sear method. If I had to use an air fryer.
All in all, if you are living on a budget, you can find a nice sous vide, circulator and vacuum sealer for right around $150 altogether that’s including bags, save up a little money, and get you a sous vide machine and plenty of bags, it will change how you cook forever ! If you’ve been watching this channel for long enough, you have probably seen how to do sous vide, it’s simple and easy and delicious, it’ll make cooking a steak so simple. It’s ridiculous. You can season it with whatever you like, I like, putting some white pepper on my steaks as well, but the air fryer trick works if that’s all you have and you want to have a good steak. Could you do something like this for a date night? Absolutely but if you’re going to use an air fryer, I would use some type of small cast-iron pan to help develop that sear. Or cook the steak to rare, then throw it in a hot pan with some butter and rosemary.

I appreciate the review but none of those high priced "gadgets" made a steak that I would pay for or serve to a guest in my home. I would be embarrassed to put any of them on a plate. I'm sure they are good for other things but none of them are worth the money in regard to steaks. Bottom line? People just need to learn to cook. Steaks especially are super simple and can make anybody look like a hero at dinner time with little effort.

The breville comes with a mesh basket for air frying. When you use a tray the air flow and heat won't be correct. However it still wouldn't be a good as a dedicated air fryer. But wouldn't ever consider air frying a steak!

    • @justinguitarcia
      @justinguitarcia 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have the Breville and its actually killer for steaks because of the joule feature so you can put a steak in and itll do a hard air fry to brown then auto drop to 130/135, almost like a sousvide, to finish the cooking. Its actually pretty brilliant. Guga isnt gonna feature all that stuff here cause this is a sponsored video so yano…but highly recommend the Breville if you want an air fryer, countertop oven (that will fit a dutch oven), smart oven and dehydrator

It also has cooked one of the better pork tenderloins I’ve ever had.

It's interesting that the Dreo didn't get a crust on it. Sonny with ThatDudeCanCook has done a couple videos with it and it's definitely gotten a very close to perfect cook with a decent crust. I agree that it can't replace knowledge of how to actually cook, but it seems to do a really decent job for what it is. I'm definitely intrigued by it enough to consider a purchase.

Air fryers have their uses. But overall they all work the same. You just adjust your cooking to the individual air fryer. Just like microwaves with different max power levels.
What i find most important nowadays is how easy can the grease splatter be cleaned from the inside. Most air fryers have no way to really clean the interior. The grease splatter just builds up.

air fryers should be used only to cook fries, pizza rolls and other finger foods. while steaks and burgers should be cook on in/on a grill and or cast-iron skillet. that's just my opinion.

Personally, I'd go for the Breville. It does need to be a good steak to be cooked like that though

I am trying to figure out what air fryer to get for steak. The skillet makes a huge mess and I am tired of the mess. Also, you have to use a cold steak in the air fryer to get a crust because it needs to stay in there for longer for a crust to form. And for it not to over cook it needs to be cold. How cold? depends on the air fryer.

Maybe I have airfryer blindness, but I had to keep going back to the start to figure out which steak they were trying was done in which fryer. I’m still kind of confused about what was what.

Day 12 of asking - IS MUMMY YUMMY, the experiment when you dry age a steak using mummification technologies to tell us - were the Victorian age people crazy geniuses or just plain crazy!!! (Disclaimer, we all know that if you fully dry age a steak to the maximum it won't taste good, please be sensible.)

Sounds like it wasn't the air fryer. Good to know all they needed was a good sear before going in. There only saving grace was counter top space saver as apposed to an oven. I'll take open flame and skill over tech all day.

So essentially, if we cook it for 9 or 10 minutes we can reverse-sear it and it would turn out perfect?
