My line of thinking is that I won't get an oven anymore when I do get my own place (we don't have an oven now as well) so I can spend a little more on a desktop oven.
Speaking of Gadgets, there has to be a Gadgets based Pass It On where everyone is assigned a gadget through lucky draw and they have to add an element to the dish with it. Edit: Ok I get it they’ve already done it. They should do a new one.
Around 5 years ago, you had some Electric Shock Forfeit videos. The one I remember most is one where Mike & Jamie made profiteroles. I propose a format mash-up! Pass It On w/ Electric Shock Guidance. Ben, Jamie, Barry, Mike, and hopefully Kush do a quick competition to decide who goes in what order. First person does not get shocked. When the second person comes on, the first person "guides" them with "helpful" shocks as they try to continue on what the first person started. Second person then takes their turn to be the shocker with person 3, etc, and the last person to go does not get to shock anybody. Woe is them.
Something that would be fun to see is a Fresh vs Canned pick the premium style video. Especially seeing if the guys can pick out canned fruit in a dish, or fresh fish versus tinned in a fish pie (had to throw this in for Ben’s approval). Especially with the market challenges could lead to some great inspiration
Both fish and fruit canned ( assuming you mean in a tin and not a jar. Though beats me why bottled stuff is called canned) taste nothing like fresh and would be detected immediately
I want to see someone test this against a real oven (or a breville air fryer) with a thermoworks meat-probe thermometer and do a blind taste testing to see if there is a noticeable difference.
100% wouldn't be a difference if you're using a probe. It's about convenience set and forget. Most ovens don't allow for that. Thus in your scenario it'd be a lot of tending to the food inside the oven and checking the probe.
One of the biggest problems i have seen with these kind of products have always been customization in settings outside of settings recipes, which is very important if you want to try something new. So this looks interesting.
What I'm always curious about with all these gadgets is how easy they are to clean - or if they make it just more difficult to clean up after cooking. Also, since there's a water tank on top, would it just be possible to use a normal oven with a probe, and a huge oven-proof bowl filled with water?
Yer it's always the biggest downside with these kinds of things! Just invest in good kitchen equipment and with a little practice you could probably do about 70% of what this does. Maybe for cheaper too if you buy used or get good deals. I think it just secures ease of use and safety of mind that it should be very accurate because it doesn't have human error if that makes sense. Still think it's a fun product but just no space and I already confident in my cooking 😅 plus hate really weird things to clean lmao
ALL of the dishes turned out fantastic guys! And i got a kick at how obsessed with plating Mike and Jaime were! Ebbers and Barry have rubbed off them! 😅😅😅😅
"The price is almost irrelevant"... almost, but not quite. It sounds like an amazing miracle machine, and I'd love one. But I wonder if it'll cost me so much that I won't be able to buy food to put into it.
Know there's prices floating around the comments, but not a huge confident booster when they're throwing that line in without actually saying what the price is and the linked website doesn't advertise one either.
Would it be possible to see some of the things the food team has been doing with it behind the scenes? I imagine Ben, Ben, and Kush have been having fun.
I feel like this is a child between a professional oven, an air-fryer and a smart light bulb. Only thing missing is some RGB and the marketing team is happy. But with so many of these smart things: How will it be maintained in 2, 5, 10 years? Will the app still work? How is the spare parts situation? Are they using industry standard connectors or something proprietary, for the temperature probe for example?
Sort of, but it needs to be compared to other things that are similar and it needs a price before you can really call it an advert or review. Otherwise it is just "does a 10 grand air fryer work?" which funnily enough is yes...
@@esmeecampbell7396 this does a LOT more than an air fryer lol. I can’t think of any single unit that does all this except maybe anova has something that does about half of that this does.
@@bochapman1058 what is it done more than an air fryer (with a cheap temperature probe in) then? It's a box that gets hot. Has it got a deep fryer built into the back? Can it chop vegetables for me? Does it perhaps work as a steamer for bao buns? Because with some pretty minimal CHEAP equipment you can do all of that with an oven. There's got to be something this does in order to justify a presumably large price tag.

Best way to start my Sunday morning. I stopped watching TH-cam all together 3 years ago when my daughter was born and this is the channel that got me back into it. I’ve watched you guys for so long but after 3 years I had ALOT to catch up on. Glad to be all caught up and always waiting for a new video!
@@lollerich because it said incudes paid promotion on the video at the start, says ad in the description and says ad on the thumbnail. So I think you just can't read it seems.
About 12 years ago, I bought a probe for use in the oven. It's just a probe with a long heat-proof wire going to a small temperature display that can be programmed with an alarm. Cost less than £20. That's all you really need to recreate this machine at home and transform your oven or air frying into this gadget.
Well. Variously. You haven't mentioned the water into steam component. Though I get around that by putting a cup of water into an oven proof tray in the bottom of my regular oven, if the dish benefits from such - e.g. Roasts.
to everyone who says: "oh but you could just achieve the same results doing(insert cooking trick here)" yes, yes you could. people who enjoy cooking don't need a device like this. We'll just look up recipes, and try and try again until we get shit right. smart devices like these are designed for people who want it easy, or who quite literally cannot cook for themselves. either because they lack the time, skill, care, physical dexterity, or all of the above. not everyone loves to cook, but good food is good regardless of enjoying the act of cooking or not.
The thing I think is missing from some of the gadget reviews is how it cleans. Which sounds strange, but the thing holding me back from something like this is quite literally “is it relatively easy to clean”. I know it will save me time while cooking but will cleaning all the nooks and crannies take ages?
I picked up a couple Dreo space heaters this past winter for my office. Now I've been getting emails from them regarding this thing. Was nice to see y'all take a look at it!
Thank you so much I've seen other channels showing it but they aren't home cooks like the guys are like most who are watching are and show how someone might attempt to use it the first time.
@@Murvalous True, but it'd still be funny to see how many times they screwed up trying to dial in temps, or if they spilled the first bread pudding putting it in/taking it out. Wouldn't hurt the product any and show that even polished people can get the oopsies.

This looks interesting and got my attention! I wonder if it would be worth doing a side by side comparison with the Anova Precision Oven that the boys reviewed not too long ago? (Selfishly because I am looking for a "smart oven" for my new home 😬)
@@scladoffle2472 It really is quite a bit more than that if you look deeper than JUST the hardware attached physically. But yes, being a skilled chef means you can do this with normal equipment, what it did is not what most home cooks are readily knowledgeable enough to achieve.
The guys used this gadget in its early stages of development but demonstrated its huge potential! It won’t be a cheap appliance to purchase but it’s final revision will be so worthwhile, it’s better than most air fryers which are in high demand as insanely popular products, and it does so much more, and it makes cooking much easier with tried and tested settings for perfect foods that most people are unable to produce themselves. I’m incredibly excited to see how well it turns out to be
It would be nice to have a place to store the probe on the outside of the machine when not using it - a compartment or clip or something. It would also be nice to just do some Air Fryer stuff (chips?) to see if it can replace the airfryer.
Really fun video. Yet i am missing some more testing for vegetable based dishes. Mainly cooking vegan at home and I really wonder sometimes how useful such a machine would be for us.
Really liked that review from you guys - the concept of the "smarter" air frier is good. However something that I'm curious about as how big is that cooking area? It looks like with the salmon and lamb rack there was little space for a bigger sized portion or to be able to cook for a family. It looks like it would cope for one person or maybe a couple. Even their kickstarter page doesn't supply any of this info, and one of their examples is a single steak covering almost all of the cooking area
If you back them on launch day you can get 45% off and its only $199, not cheap but also not break the bank. BTW launch day would be May 23, after that it gradually increases to the retail price of $359 Edit: BTW this is MUCH cheaper than the Omni cook

@@pookhahare stuff like that helps me a lot. Some days I just can't stand long enough to actually cook stuff (I get heart palpitations and short of breath and light headed sometimes) so being able to cook while sitting is definitely a plus.
So, for a food challenge involving kitchen gadgets like this. I think, the normals should cook the same dish. One with the machine and one just as they usually would, and have the judges blind compare the two and guess which is which and why etc.
Three reviews of this thing I've seen in 2 days, that maker is really getting the word out there. I personally think the basket is on the small side but otherwise it looks interesting
As I am waiting impatiently for my Dreo Chef Maker to ship, I have watched virtually every video on TH-cam watching people cook with it, and I was extremely happy to see that besides the standard steak, chicken and salmon, you went the extra mile and cooked different things like Pork Belly, Roast of Lamb and the delicious dessert, so two thumbs up from me to you and your creativity. One more thing I would love to see you cook, a true Texas Brisket. Either 100% slow cooked in the Chef Maker, or since one of you mentioned your out door grill, smoke it for a couple of hours to develop a beautiful smoke ring, and then finish it off in the Dreo. Do you accept my challenge?
Very nice test. I really like the fact that you still need a chef to give you the right temperatures and that you're free to do whatever you want . So many of these machines only accept their proprietary recipes.
the issue i can see is the same as air fryers, its quite a big gadget for cooking a single element for a single serving for the most part. the tech part for taking to fuss out of getting things perfect is fantastic but even a cheap worktop oven would allow for multiple elements cooking together with the potential for stuff like probes and other app based stuff to deal with most of the fuss while opening up a larger range of cooking for not really that much more space.
Didn’t show them trying to get that creme brûlée out of the machine though! I bet that was tricky! 😂 Not sure how much of a ‘normal’ Jamie is now when he suggested sous vide at home as though that’s a regular normal thing. Also sneaky not mentioning the price in an ad, but saying it almost doesn’t matter. Good vid though!
I think the real beauty of this gadget is that I could see putting this in my RV for cooking while camping. My trailer does not have an oven, and trying to fit things on one or two burners can be very difficult. This doesn’t look like it takes up that much counterspace.
I get concerned when I start seeing a Kickstarter being advertised by multiple TH-camrs - will they have enough supply to meet demand? Will the production units be as good as the ones sent to infuencers
How's the cleaning up of that machine? I like gadgets like this, but everything that includes steaming and a water tank I owned so far was messy to clean and in some occasions it started to grow mold in some places sooner or later...
The probe is actually available on quite a few air fryers so not particularly new, other than that it seems reasonable and I'd consider it if I didn't already have a perfectly good sous vide/slow cooker combo as well as an air fryer. For a small flat it looks a pretty decent shout.
The easy way to cook salmon, whole or fillet, add a couple citrus slices, wrap in toil ( tightly! ), throw on the top rack of the dishwasher and run it through a cycle, dirty dishes optional. 🧑🍳🧑🍳🧑🍳
Seems like it will be a very expensive air fryer with a temperature probe. I'm not really seeing any justification for whatever price it is beyond whatever it costs to buy a cheap probe or just get used to cooking based on time using your own oven or air fryer (which is just a small oven) Ultimately I don't see a reason anyone would really buy one as opposed to an oven they already own, or a counter top stock pot/slow cooker/air fryer type thing. Especially when those would probably be cheaper...
It is a bit weird how much it suggested a temp probe is a game changer. Especially when they mentioned in another comment that they deliberately only demonstrated recipes that need one. Guess it was part of the deal that that's the element this is being sold on. But yeah, you can buy smart probes linked to apps etc already and they're previously reviewed them
Funny you should mention that as Im sure these guys complained to no end with stuff half the size. That they actually paid with their own money. Apparently the size suddenly becomes irrelevant when they're the ones paid to review it. It's a bloody air fryer with fancy display.
@@NicholasSlabaugh well they are Kickstarter prototypes. The final units, if they ever come out at all instead of just evaporating your money, don't necessarily have to look or work or have a build quality anything like in the video. You can't buy them yet
This is the 3rd channel I've seen cover this machine over the last few days and I'm more impressed with each review. I've not bought an air fryer yet, though I've considered it. Some food professionals seem to love it while others have explained why they don't. It's been a while since I went to culinary school, and even though I'm not currently in the food industry, I'm stunned by some of the recent advancements like this. While I don't know what the price will be yet for this since the launch date is still a very short time away, I'm sold on it if the price is right.

Watched Guga do some cooking with this. Would like to see a bit more of the auto function, because most of us normals would have no idea how to set temperatures. Still looks like an awesome bit of kit that is most likely going to be out of my budget. Dare to dream.
I just don't see anyone but people renting an apartment who only cook for themselves using this, and even then, being limited of what I can cook is... not something I can deal with when spending that kind of money. Remember these guys are spending a decent bit for actual quality ingredients.

My line of thinking is that I won't get an oven anymore when I do get my own place (we don't have an oven now as well) so I can spend a little more on a desktop oven.
For something that takes more than an hour to cook, it seems insanely overpriced at all levels to me.
The problem is it’s not 240v compatible so unless you want to use a transformer it’s a non starter.
Speaking of Gadgets, there has to be a Gadgets based Pass It On where everyone is assigned a gadget through lucky draw and they have to add an element to the dish with it.

Jamie and Mike: “Yes.”
I actually gasped when Mike nearly separated the egg over the mixture. Well done and good catch!
Jamie eating the lamb off the bone while the other boys use cutlery is literally me. 🤣 🤣 🤣
Hi, Jamie.
Ninja also have a probe in their dual airfryer
Probably no difference at probably a lower price point
Exactly what I'd like to see too!
100% wouldn't be a difference if you're using a probe. It's about convenience set and forget. Most ovens don't allow for that. Thus in your scenario it'd be a lot of tending to the food inside the oven and checking the probe.
@@outogetyougotyou5250 wireless probe connects to an app. And its not that expensive. Technology, man, its amazing.
Basket goes in the dishwasher
You need a fancy special water oven or using steam in the oven will damage it.

Would it be possible to see some of the things the food team has been doing with it behind the scenes? I imagine Ben, Ben, and Kush have been having fun.
All they would have to do is make a premium sign up and stick all of that behind that wall. Like Patreon on becoming a member on TH-cam.
These are the kinds of ads that work. Things normals wouldn’t normally interact with but find fascinating

Window in the front with a light inside so you can see the food cooking, totally makes it better than any other air fryer.

The thing I think is missing from some of the gadget reviews is how it cleans. Which sounds strange, but the thing holding me back from something like this is quite literally “is it relatively easy to clean”. So, their Facebook group is talking about this not being available to the EU.. Should probably have lead with that.
Pulling cooked food out of a drawer has a nice sci-fi feel. I'm with Ben on simple Cantonese roast pork belly is the best.

Exactly, I was thinking the same.
the issue i can see is the same as air fryers, its quite a big gadget for cooking a single element for a single serving for the most part. the tech part for taking to fuss out of getting things perfect is fantastic but even a cheap worktop oven would allow for multiple elements cooking together with the potential for stuff like probes and other app based stuff to deal with most of the fuss while opening up a larger range of cooking for not really that much more space.
Didn’t show them trying to get that creme brûlée out of the machine though! I bet that was tricky! 😂
Not sure how much of a ‘normal’ Jamie is now when he suggested sous vide at home as though that’s a regular normal thing.

I think the real beauty of this gadget is that I could see putting this in my RV for cooking while camping. My trailer does not have an oven, and trying to fit things on one or two burners can be very difficult. This doesn’t look like it takes up that much counterspace.

My ninja foodi grill does essentially the same thing as it has a probe as well. But good on whoever invested in this. It seems like a great machine
I'm not really seeing any justification for whatever price it is beyond whatever it costs to buy a cheap probe or just get used to cooking based on time using your own oven or air fryer (which is just a small oven)
Ultimately I don't see a reason anyone would really buy one as opposed to an oven they already own, or a counter top stock pot/slow cooker/air fryer type thing.
