Holy fuck, I hadn't heard anything about this game at all, but it sounds absolutely up my alley. Cyberpunk detective? Count me in. Superb review as always.
I noticed that many people didnt know anything of this game. For me it was a dark horse of last e3 and I was really suprised that almost no one was talking about it...
A more accurate representation of Pre-War Deus ex I think story and environment wise. if you think of it this way then it makes since why people were so split on Augmentations. I deffinitely got a Deus ex influenced vibe and of course i mean the Original not that shitty man kind divided stuff.
This is one of my only comments on TH-cam ever, after years. Just wanted to say thanks for what you do. You're essentially the only reviewer I watch these days. Much appreciated, man. You make great content.
Observer is a cyberpunk detective game with a bit of Deus Ex, Blade Runner, Resident Evil and Silent Hill thrown in for good measure. I'd say that the game is definitely right up my alley. Its a massive improvement over Layers of Fear in pretty much every aspect. I absolutely love the cyberpunk aesthetic. The game has a great atmosphere and narrative. Sound design and visuals are top notch for the most part. Horror games aren't always about jump scares. There are times when psychological horror works better than the "I just shit in my pants" moments that some titles rely on. Obviously, the reason for that is because psychological horror mess with your mind and psyche. I don't mind playing a horror game that scares the shit out of me. However, there is something to be said about a psychological horror game that screws up your way of thinking. It makes you hear voices in your head and it throws everything out of wack. That's one of things that makes Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice such a great game. I don't know how Karak does it. I'm sure there are instances when he doesn't even have time to eat or sleep. That's some serious dedication and passion that he has for the channel and it shows in the quality of his videos. Thanks Karak!
Darth Malgus That’s a very unoriginal approach to the future. Most people think the future is going to be the same as today. Many people said the 21st century was a dissapointment and was nothing like Scifi predicted. Except Scifi predicted cyberspace, Vr and GPS. We have self-driving cars, air taxis like the Ehang 184, the first clunky consumer robot butler has been produced, there are auto chef kitchens - like something from the Jetsons whereby hands come out of an overhead compartment to cook 2000+ recipes and clean up afterwards. This decade is a time of transition. The era of mobile computing. We’re moving into the dawn of robotics and serious AI. You just need to open your fucken eyes and see what’s here already...
I watch your videos during my cardio sessions at the gym damn well knowing I'm not going to buy more than half these games. Great content my man keep it up.
Eric Gonzalez Karak is like an audio book lol, even if you don't buy the game it is still fun to just listen to him talk, besides the fact that he makes the best reviews of all time and has the hands down best writing out of any reviewer.
We were watching him beat this in the private discord and he was just playing it, chating on irc and discussing game design all while playing on cam lol
Another honest review. I didn't know what to expect from Observer when I saw the gameplay demo a few months back but you gave me a very clear picture of the game. Excellent review.
''The number of questionable pigeons that inhabit a courtyard like a friggin' Prince MTV music video'' LOL. Looks pretty good and I was just in the mood for a game like this. Thanks for the review!
look at them though. You can't tell me they aren't joining together like some feathery hivemind in that part of the video. Its absolutely the begining of the birdmatrix. or batrix
ACG you have to be a vampire or a highlander cause I can't put my phone down w/o a notification of your next review. Seriously my wallet thanks you for all your hard work
I'm near the end and absolutely love this title. I'm polish and seeing 80s technology in a game made my Day. I used to have a hoover like this! And the kitchen cabinets with the same finish. Attention to detail is brilliant. And yes there are alot of pigeons in main market sq in Kraków so i can imagine where they spend the night would look similiar in terms of numbers. Terrific stuff! Great review as always.
Another great review my friend of another game that I would have completely missed!!👊 However even with triple a titles I still watch you first bro!! Best reviews on any site or channel it's not even close!
Blade Runner vibe and Rutger Hauer makes this an awesome game. I never played that Blade Runner game from the 90's even though I always wanted to, but this game will definitely do. Another great review for another game that I can't wait to play.
Finished this on Xbox Gamepass and enjoyed it. Some of the dream sequences drag on too long and it's definitely one of the most fked up games I've ever played. I love Rutger Hauer and playing with his voice really made the game much more interesting. I'd love to see a new Deus Ex with this style of graphics.
You should have started the video saying: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
There are very few games that felt like torture. I tried to endure, push through it. Any game I spend money on, I am determined to finish. But this was just not worth it. The pure agony I faced for the last 2 hours drove me to my limit. Before I specify what ruined the experience, I'll mention some positive aspects. The cyberpunk atmosphere is fantastic, I love the aesthetics. The graphics are a joy to look at, and I enjoyed exploring the apartment complex. The vague backstories of the world and the characters made them all the more intriguing, as your imagination is allowed to fill in the gaps in between the shreds you do receive. As far as gameplay, I quite like 'walking simulators' and view them as an interactive art piece. This one really stepped it up compared to other walking sims with your altered visions and HUD interfaces. Some people complain about the 'destabilization' meter and the pills, but I enjoyed that mechanic as you can see your world break down around you. What completely ruined this experience for me, is the 'interrogation' sequences, where you jack into someone's brain and encounter their subconscious. This is a good concept and I was curious at how this would play out. But the developers got WAY carried away. Each of these sequences lasts around an hour long, and most of it is pure torture. And I mean TORTURE. There is a section during Helena's sequence, where you hear a baby crying nonstop... also your vision becomes blurred and filled with pixelated artifacts. There is a locked door and no indication on how, or even if, that can be opened. The game makes you figure out which objects you can interact with and which can't, there's little consistency. Wires and electronics everywhere, just for decoration. but on THIS particular puzzle, while you are frantically trying to rush through this area with the baby crying, there is a TV cord you are supposed to pick up. After like 10 minutes I figured out how to drag it over to an outlet and open the damn door. Then I got to repeat that sequence again, stabbing at the air with the thing since you are nearly blinded by the pixelation. I got through the second door. Then there was a third door, as if all of this wasn't enough. Oh and the baby crying gets worse as you pass each door. I 'unlocked' the door with the TV cord, but the door didn't swing open, it only cracks partially. There must be another task to complete to fully open the door, but I give up. I'm done with this game, I can't take it. It's not worth it. I'll never see if Dan gets to see Adam again or not. Don't think the above was the only example. There were many others, that was just the last straw. Just a few of the other bad moments that tried my patience were: *The 'take your number' room where you walk around in circles in a dark room until you stumble upon the triggers that let you proceed. *That cubical office where I slowly walked laps around it before realizing you need to talk to the blue shirt guy, then again after the lights turn out and I walked at least 2 more laps before stumbling into the right spot to move on with life. *The room where you pick up the picture of "Rutger Hauer." I got glitch stuck in that room. It made me reset the game, and somehow my save allowed me to move on with life. *The long hallway where you keep hearing "HEY BABY, I'M HOME!" repeatedly. What does this add this to the story? To the characterization? The atmosphere? It's a waste of my time. *The room with the tentacle monster. I sat there for several minutes watching that damn thing thrive around. It was not remotely scary, it didn't add anything to characterization or the plot, it was annoying. Eventually I figured out after much frustration, that a barely visible plug on the ground needed to be pulled up to move on. Like why did I have to do that? *The operating room. This one was a minor offender, but I walked several laps around the room before figuring out there was some object on the table to touch before the scene would progress. Why do we keep having to do these mundane tasks? It feels like work, it makes the scene boring, and worst of all it ruins the suspension of disbelief. All of the above examples were from Helena's interrogation, which I didn't even finish. The first interrogation with Amir is almost as bad. My wife was watching me play this game and she was really engaged up until Amir's interrogation. I think she left around the time I was walking around the floating showers hearing "You gotta do this for me! For us!" repeatedly. That whole scene was an hour my wife and I will never get back. It could have been condensed greatly. I'd rather play a good, compelling 6 hour version of Observer, rather than a 10 hour version packed with filler and tedium.
From how good and witty you are at writing and talking I'd think you might be a good writer or comedian. Ever done any work like that? Just curious love your stuff man
Landlord is voiced by a Polish actor, Arkadiusz Jakubik, who either isn't that good with English, was somehow too pricey or they wrote his character this way and absolutely missed using he's great, entertaining voice and speaking manner. He's Great actor and I can't emphasize enough how underused his voice is.
Amazing. Rageaholic/RazorFist said this was one of his top anticipated games in 2017 and there is ACG, providing me with a PROPER review with no bullshit. This is why I subscribed to you, I just hope your work ethic won't be killing you or burning you out, but I am not complaining. Alternatively, AngryJoe should look at you when it comes to consistency. :D
Holly crap batman. I just saw this released on steam and came to youtube to see if there was any decent reviews yet (I had little hope). First/top of the list I see ACG. Made me all warm and fuzzy inside. Well played sir.
Game is great. Only some minor performance issues, but TBH, the occasional lag and stutter works with the vibe of the game. It can actually be hard to tell what is a performance issue, and what is intentional. This has "cult classic" written all over it.
We should all pitch in and buy karak a huge mug or a luxury coffin if he is a vampire lol as always thanks alot for your dedication and awesome reviews.
Hey Karak, would you consider doing a best of kind of video? It would be interesting to get a condensed video on all the games you personally feel are worth taking up my precious Hard drive space.
Been watching your vids for years and I always come to you to know whether a game is for me or not, I’ve had this game on my Xbox downloaded for a few weeks and just got around to it. Decided to see what you had to say about before I tried it. Thanks as always brother 🤘🏻
I'm not a fan of detective modes since it insults the players deductive skills, but I'm just in love with the cyberpunk noir style. Will definitely keep an eye on it.
So, RealHero and Davon85J, how would you guys place this next to SOMA? As someone who considered SOMA brilliant, is this just as good? Will the narrative move me in the same way?
As far as narrative goes, Soma probably edges out Observer. While I didn't find Soma's story brilliant, it was a little more intriguing throughout than Observer. Not to say Observer's narrative isn't good, but it's pretty straightforward and probably won't move you like Soma did. However, Observer's world building and characters are on par (and even surpass) Soma in some places. In terms of horror, Observer was better in my opinion. In Soma, the horror and monster encounters felt tacked on while in Observer the horror and narrative seemed to go hand in hand throughout. So while I'm not sure the narrative will blow you away, I think the world, atmosphere and characters are enough to justify a purchase if you liked Soma. Hope this helped
Goddamn right Karak! Thank God you are on Patreon, cuz TH-cam is destroying good channels like crazy, at least you will be ok lol. Great review man, I wouldn't have even looked at this game if not for you, that's been the case with many games, you are the best reviewer, and the best review writer on TH-cam. Writing always superb my man.
I don't know how many times I passed this game while surfing gamepass. The trailer didn't sell me too much when I first saw it but then last night I saw how so small the download was I just said fuck it and tried it out. Holy crap did it blow me away. I only got through the first "dream eater sequence" before I called to a night or else I would have played it all night and my morning work shift would have been hell. I gotta say, I wanna find a psychical copy of thod game because it's just that good.
Late to the party with this one, it looks surprisingly good & intriguing. Excellent details which show that you get it, some reviewers threw it to the wolves with the typical jaded indifferent attitude, terrific job on it man.
How come I have only found out about it 2 years later? I alway search on steam for horror, or anything related to previous horrors I played (such as this KIND of reminds me of SOMA first impression, and Observer is made by the same team as layers of fear, which Ive also played) odd...
Sounds like it's similar horror levels as Soma, which to me is perfect as I don't necessarily like horror games but love bleak sci fi. I wasn't interested in this game until this review now I'm dying to play it.
Can anyone explain why hundreds of screenshots are being taken and stored in this folder directory: C:\Users\Audio Visual Proof\AppData\Local\TheObserver\Saved\Screenshots\WindowsNoEditor I don't know what button I'm pressing except for the ScrollLock key on my keyboard to turn SweetFX on and off, plus I'm only using my Xbox1 controller. Nearly 1GB worth of screenshots have been stored twice without even playing for that long. Help! Thanks.
That shakyface effect in Jacob`s ladder is creepy AF IMO, and I think it`s just to demonstrate the unnatural-ness of the visions, showing him seeing demons etc.. Great movie :)
i hate hide-n-seek-games, but this one is a damn masterpiece and one of the best games released in this year. if they had done away with these insta-kill-hide-sections, this could've been grand.
While theres alot of games that are not my thing nor have heard of that are reviewed here its great everything is reviewed (dark horse games, games not my thing and otherwise no game is missed) and the content is better then anyone else. So once again thanks for a great review. Theres alot of games on my list to get but this game looks interesting enough to add and get some time in the future when I have played alot of them.
For a lot of people it felt more like a haunted house ride than a game. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, though for others it didn't do enough to work.
You can read more about the lore of Observer on their wiki site. It explains how the world came to be the way it is and the history of the nanophage plague and robotic body parts: observer.gamepedia.com/Observer_Wiki
This game came out of nowhere. This is practically Bladerunner fanfiction, everything from the text crawl to Rutger Hauer.
I'm loving this new trend of 30$ AAA games this year
This game should have a vr mode.
I think people might die lol
Just finished it. Fantastic psychological horror that never lets you feel safe or certain of your situation even though you might be.
Holy fuck, I hadn't heard anything about this game at all, but it sounds absolutely up my alley. Cyberpunk detective? Count me in.
Superb review as always.
thanks devil

Yeah, I wanted to thank you personally ACG. Would never have heard about this gem if it wasn't for you.
Yeah, we seriously need more cyberpunk type of games.
This is one of my only comments on TH-cam ever, after years. Just wanted to say thanks for what you do. You're essentially the only reviewer I watch these days. Much appreciated, man. You make great content.

you could review a can of beans and i'd watch it
Jaden Goter Seriously though, he really should start reviewing cans of beans ! I'd definitely watch as well !
I won't be alive for 2084, but I am almost certain that this century will decide if our future ends up like Star Trek, I Am Legend, or Mad Max.
The Chosen Shane No I don't think so, fuck all is probably gonna happen tbh.
Darth Malgus That’s a very unoriginal approach to the future. Most people think the future is going to be the same as today.
Many people said the 21st century was a dissapointment and was nothing like Scifi predicted.

You just need to open your fucken eyes and see what’s here already...
Most likely Mad max. I would think climate change will do us in.
Y2Kr4SHM4N True but we'll probably all be dead by the time the true next era of tech happens.
I'm hoping more like I Am Legend.
I watch your videos during my cardio sessions at the gym damn well knowing I'm not going to buy more than half these games. Great content my man keep it up.
appreciate it eric
Eric Gonzalez Karak is like an audio book lol, even if you don't buy the game it is still fun to just listen to him talk, besides the fact that he makes the best reviews of all time and has the hands down best writing out of any reviewer.
Do you ever sleep? Holy fuck, dude.
uhm..well very little but not sure waht you mean
Just that the amount of reviews you put out is amazing.
Beefy McThundernuts it's funny I was going to ask the same thing lol
We were watching him beat this in the private discord and he was just playing it, chating on irc and discussing game design all while playing on cam lol
maidenfanatic33 nice dude haha
How did I not hear about this game? Looks almost like SOMA which is still one of my all time favorites. Thanks ACG!
Another honest review. I didn't know what to expect from Observer when I saw the gameplay demo a few months back but you gave me a very clear picture of the game. Excellent review.
Your intense work and well balanced reviews are highly appreciated. Best in class!
Well if Rutger Hauer in this game. I am in.
Hanferd I was scrolling down to make sure I'm not seeing things, apparently I'm not alone 😅
I JUST saw the cover art, and I was like.. no way.. I was so excited when I watched the trailer.
Blade Runner, Blind Fury, Split Second, Lady Hawk, Sin City. Rutger Hauer is the man.
the hitcher too
I love your reviews. Nobody else goes into this much detail. Keep up the great work!
Its absolutely the begining of the birdmatrix. or batrix
Definitely. That's some cyberpunk Hitchcock shit right there.
Remake confirmed
Man, this guy can write
ACG you have to be a vampire or a highlander cause I can't put my phone down w/o a notification of your next review. Seriously my wallet thanks you for all your hard work
a vampire highlander
aye, totally agree! let's spread the word! ACG deserves all the sub!
At 4:20 the 'music' reminded me of the sounds that are played when Shodan talks in system shock 2
yes
Just by watching this review,I got a distinct SOMA feeling! Both games looks very cool visually.
Stay classy,Centaur.
Just stumbled upon your chann, gotta say i love your presentation and analytical aproach to game design. Subscribed.
Hey man thanks for finding nifty games that aren't high-profile and giving them a fair go, letting the rest of us know what's up.
I'm near the end and absolutely love this title. I'm polish and seeing 80s technology in a game made my Day. I used to have a hoover like this! And the kitchen cabinets with the same finish. man so stoked you enjoyed it!
You misspelled ">observer_", how am I supposed to trust your reviews now?
Saninsince992 who is your avatar?
Sadly you can't use < or > in titles youtube doesn't allow it. :P
Another great review my friend of another game that I would have completely missed!!👊 However even with triple a titles I still watch you first bro!! Best reviews on any site or channel it's not even close!

Another great review for another game that I can't wait to play.
This almost looks like cyberpunk+Condemned.
YES!
Condemned was the shit!! I still miss that IP just as much as I miss FEAR.
FEAR was the only cod mode game with awesome story and intense horror sequences.
Condemned was the shit!!
Saw an Ad before the video. I hope it wasn't demonetized. Great review Karak. You are a wizard with wordplay.
Rest In Peace Rutger Hauer, gone but never forgotten.
No idea how you get so many reviews out a this level of quality. Thanks. Excellent video.
not long games. less than 50 hours of games in 15 days
Genuinely some of the best reviews and detail I've seen on this site.
my thanks
I just found you a few weeks ago and your reviews are the best as always. Cheers from Brazil!

Don't think the above was the only example. There were many others, that was just the last straw. Just a few of the other bad moments that tried my patience were:
*The 'take your number' room where you walk around in circles in a dark room until you stumble upon the triggers that let you proceed.
*That cubical office where I slowly walked laps around it before realizing you need to talk to the blue shirt guy, then again after the lights turn out and I walked at least 2 more laps before stumbling into the right spot to move on with life.

Another fantastic review, beautifully done. So glad I found your channel.
From how good and witty you are at writing and talking I'd think you might be a good writer or comedian. Ever done any work like that? Just curious love your stuff man
no not really i just talk and record it lol
ACG Ah ok, just wondering since you are one of the most weird, entertaining and not to mention informative people I've seen on TH-cam
Well,... you are brilliant at it. :)
Oh my gosh you mentioned Black Mirror! You like that show too? I love it! Definitely picking up this game now
Landlord is voiced by a Polish actor, Arkadiusz Jakubik, who either isn't that good with English, was somehow too pricey or they wrote his character this way and absolutely missed using he's great, entertaining voice and speaking manner. That was a fair review. Very descriptive and thorough. Wish more reviews were like yours
Black Mirror reference. Much appreciated.
Game is great. Only some minor performance issues, but TBH, the occasional lag and stutter works with the vibe of the game. It can actually be hard to tell what is a performance issue, and what is intentional.
This has "cult classic" written all over it.
We should all pitch in and buy karak a huge mug or a luxury coffin if he is a vampire lol as always thanks alot for your dedication and awesome reviews.
lol
Yeah, I was definitely trying the different vision modes to check if I was in reality. Never realized how cool that was til now
ya its insane
The clue finding of the game really put me in mind of Heavy Rain
Hey Karak, would you consider doing a best of kind of video? It would be interesting to get a condensed video on all the games you personally feel are worth taking up my precious Hard drive space.
Very in depth I know who tog et this for after this review HUGE thank you :)
Literally just saw razorfist mention this as a game to look forward to then the next day you've done a review! Amazing
interesting. Dont know what that means. but thanks!
Been watching your vids for years and I always come to you to know whether a game is for me or not, I’ve had this game on my Xbox downloaded for a few weeks and just got around to it. Decided to see what you had to say about before I tried it. Thanks as always brother 🤘🏻
Another informative and timely review! Keep at it Karak!
I'm not a fan of detective modes since it insults the players deductive skills, but I'm just in love with the cyberpunk noir style. Will definitely keep an eye on it.
This works better than most bc you can hack and scan things and get useful information
Observer looks similar to SOMA, yet with more of a focus on gameplay than just story
Bob Vance They're actually about the same in the gameplay department. Only difference is Observer has "detective modes" while Soma doesn't
Davon85J thanks, as a big fan of SOMA, I might have to pick it up.
both are very good (i played both), i think observer is a bit better because it have a lot fx audio, and better graphisc.
I would have completely missed this game if it weren't for your review. This is why I subscribe. You rock Karak!
Looks like it would be a good VR title. Nice review ACG
12 minute review told in a way that AngryJoe never could. ACG is my main reviewer from now on, screw that other guy.
Been waiting for this review. Thanks Karak!
Seems like my type of game. I guess I'll also sub to you and see how you are with other reviews. Thanks for the info.
I was wondering when this was gonna be put up. Very surprised it was so soon after thinking you wouldn't do it
Late to the party with this one, it looks surprisingly good & intriguing. Excellent details which show that you get it, some reviewers threw it to the wolves with the typical jaded indifferent attitude, terrific job on it man.
How come I have only found out about it 2 years later? I alway search on steam for horror, or anything related to previous horrors I played (such as this KIND of reminds me of SOMA first impression, and Observer is made by the same team as layers of fear, which Ive also played)
odd...
Great review. Very nicely done.
very good review as always, Karak 😊👍
Sounds like it's similar horror levels as Soma, which to me is perfect as I don't necessarily like horror games but love bleak sci fi. I wasn't interested in this game until this review now I'm dying to play it.
Can anyone explain why hundreds of screenshots are being taken and stored in this folder directory:
C:\Users\Audio Visual Proof\AppData\Local\TheObserver\Saved\Screenshots\WindowsNoEditor
I don't know what button I'm pressing except for the ScrollLock key on my keyboard to turn SweetFX on and off, plus I'm only using my Xbox1 controller. Nearly 1GB worth of screenshots have been stored twice without even playing for that long. Help! Thanks.
maybe select ,.. since that is PS4's share button now??
That shakyface effect in Jacob`s ladder is creepy AF IMO, and I think it`s just to demonstrate the unnatural-ness of the visions, showing him seeing demons etc..
Great movie :)
Well this came out of nowhere! I suddenly have a feeling that I need to get this game.
We need a successor of this game with expanded gameplay and locations. Love this.
Great review. This game just popped up on ps4.
"i hated the parts where it was pitch black"....HE HAS NIGHTVISION
HE does indeed. Just not when he's observing..
Watching this again in 2019 now that Observer is coming to Switch.
R.I.P. Rutcher Hauer
Nice video. I'll have to check this out!
Will be playing this today. Thanks for the review.
This game is great if you don't mind some certain stuff about gameplay and framerate. But the hour that I have played so far is amazing
i hate hide-n-seek-games, but this one is a damn masterpiece and one of the best games released in this year. if they had done away with these insta-kill-hide-sections, this could've been grand.
This looks interesting. Another excellent, detailed review from ACG
Layers of fear missing horror????!!!! WTF?!!! I pissed my pants playing that game
Nemo [N.D_F] lmfao me too
Layers of fear is shit.
I loved Layers of Fear but more for the psychological fuckery than any jump scare
Another review , so soon. Karaks putting in the work lately. Hey is TH-cam still monitizing your videos ?
Great review, game looks awesome. Will have to check this out
Looks exactly my kind of game.
Thanks for the review.
The fact that you only have around 300k subscribers still baffles me.
Man, I'll buy it once I have some TIME to play it, mu schedule is boring right now :P
Man you're the best reviewer ..... You upload reviews like some freaking bullet train
This game is on sale right now on PS4 and absolutely worth the current price of admission.
I feel like, 1st person horror games need vr support. Re7 was GREAT with it. Granted it's a good game even without but it adds a lot.
RIP Rutger Hauer
Great review. Why the so much hate on Layer's of Fear though. Doesn't cost an arm an a leg. Even with the $19.99 price it still delivers fun scares.
Hey man love your videos, do you plan on reviewing sonic mania once it releases for pc?
no
This looks *_amazing!_* I just wish that I didn't have a deathly aversion to jump scares.
Ik I should probably be saying this in the hellblade video but can I play it with regular ear buds or is the optimal experience with a headset
Hey ACG, is this game up to par with Soma? That game was a gem.
Interesting looking game that I didn't even know existed. Does it have much in the way of combat? Great review, as always. :)
