1:39 actually almost made me laugh out loud. They just put a random tank there, not even the same as in the movie. That’s probably a Leopard 2A6 or 2A7, which is German. Why is it in America with desert camo and was used to try and stop the zombies?
If there’s one thing that could save this game, it’s the “choose your own adventure” aspect. “Script” your own plot and character choices, leading to a series of totally different story ending possibilities.
Hey I actually liked Survival Instinct. I had my friend play it once, and I 100% swear to you on my life ( i wish I recorded it) that during that intro where Dixon's dad got overwhelmed, he actually didn't get overwhelmed. It was his very first time playing. He got headshots for all 8 rifle rounds he fired and rounded up the rest of them and ran a train just like in COD zombies in that tight space. It was one of the most impressive things I've ever witnessed in video games. It was pure skill, my jaw dropped. After a minute or two of 'edge of your seat' action and clutch after clutch, the screen just goes blank and cuts to the scene where he's being eaten. My friend was confused. He looks over at me and my jaw is still wide open. He's like, "What?" and I'm like, "You are literally not supposed to beat that part."
The tank at 1:37 is supposed to be an Abrams, which is an American tank, the one shown in the game is a Leopard 2, which is a German tank. They even used stock assets.
@@animq4ionboi.153 It is an M60 during the prison related episodes. We're referring to S01E01 (I think that's correct), where Rick rides a horse into town and runs into a horde. He loses the horse and hides inside a tank.
Honestly with more time, a higher budget, and a production crew that cared, this could have been a really good game. I think the choice aspect that changes characters that strain from the original main story is really cool. Third person combat is definitely the way to go in a game like this. Overall, this still has potential if a major developer picked up on it instead.
When he started talking about how you can change the events of the TV show through choices I was like, holy shit what a missed opportunity. If they had picked a better dev team and given them more cash + got the og actors on board it would've been so cool
@@legend7951 It would still be severely limited with more cash and actors included, unless the choices wasn't binary. It's the reason why Telltale Walking dead doesn't work on a fundamental level. How fun is it to play as Rick in Shane's body, you will do the same anyway, say the same, feel the same. Try to play Telltale WD again. Then replay a chapter where you have made a choice between 2 people. They will both serve the same function in that chapter, and in many cases say the same dialogue. It's boring and creates the illusion of choice. True concept of that type of game would be to create a tree, where choices leads to different outcomes, not just in terms of characters, but setting, story, gameplay and so on.
It would be cool if they let the studio that did Terminator Resistance and Robocop Rouge City do a Walking Dead game. The amount of respect they show liscensed franchises is amazing.
Sarah Wayne Collins also reprised her role as Lori. And funnily enough, Chandler Riggs also did some voice acting for it too, just not as Carl. It says on his IMDB that he voices a random "Woodbury Goon".... 😂😂😂😂
If they wanted to make it still cinematics instead of animated cutscenes they couldve made the "Cutscenes" look like comic panels to actually make it stylistic and it would be pretty unique
I loved the walking dead when it was a show about surviving a zombie apocalypse but then it turned into drama that occasionally had zombies showing up.
@@Juref98 Yeah. I've played both this and Gollum, and the gameplay is actually well enough (when not weighed down by glitches, mostly visual). Even in terms of adaptation they seem to be good enough at knowing when to change (and how to change) and when to stick religiously to the source material. I'm content the cause of the problem is Gamemill handing AAA-level projects to a A-level studio - presumably because that's the cheapest way to do it - and on top of that not taking into account that doing so will AT LEAST require more time to complete. Get these devs a higher budget, more time to work on the game, and a bit more time to get actual experience (and maybe let them partner with an actual animation studio) and they'd probably do great... but god forbid any publishing company in 2023 respect developers enough to do that, right?
The sad part about The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is that it could've been a really good game. The opening level is great and the base mechanics were unique. The problem is the publisher was trying to force them to release the game as soon as possible. So the version of Survival Instinct that we got was essentially an alpha if not pre-alpha that was quickly scrambled together for release without developer consent. It's basically the Big Rigs Over The Road racing of zombie survival games as a result.
Both Survival Instinct and Destinies have the skeletons of good games. I remember they wanted to push SI to release prior to Merle's death in the show and was marketed as the prequel for Daryl and Merle. Due to the rush, it turned out as you stated. The case seems to be similar for Destinies but what I'm failing to understand is...why? Why rush this? The Walking Dead was at the height of it's powers in seasons 3 and 4 with something like 14 million weekly live viewers. So while it's scummy, I can see the dip shit corporate think of trying to release the game to capitalize on sales. With the series "finale" they barely cracked 1 million viewers and, save for the Daryl spin off, I can't see the audience being beyond that million or so die hard fans. So why rush this game? The Walking Dead has been...well...dead for years. Who are you rushing this title to sell to? It doesn't make sense to me. Destinies could have been an awesome alternate universe telling of The Walking Dead's universe like Gihren's Greed was for the Gundam universe. As it stands, they released this abomination.
props to them for actually finally making a walking dead game that actually is trying to be a playable version of the show, back in the day I would have loved this game, and it looks like they made the damn thing back in the day and only just remembered they forgot to release it
Between, Redfall, the golem video game, the King Kong video game and now this... Not only are people who love terrible video games eating good but Matt Mc Muscles is going to have content for years.
Hey now, what if he is bankrolling them all with his TH-cam moneyz as an investment? Just kidding, obviously, the game he was involved producing was actually good.
This feels like a big missed opportunity. Story-wise wise it looks great and I really like that you can make alternative decisions based on what happens in the show. The game engine just looks so bad though.
I refuse to let this game ever over shadow the amazing emotional roller coaster of our sweet and brave Clementine. She is the only game character that deserves the praise! Her story, the storyline, her bravery. She's such an admirable person from scared little girl to murderous protagonist with some humanity. This game is not TWD.
Life just hasn't been as good as playing Telltale's stories in a cold gamer cave as a young adult. Walking Dead used to be an event, phenomenon. By season 4 I remember most of America tuning in every week. Now? Well now, that's just times passed. A strong memory for me has become another blunted dart they through at the money board.
If we want games to be good we as consumers gotta figure a way to support developers that make good games. They keep getting lost cause they put out good games but aren't marketed correctly when they need it due to executives strange obsession with viewcounts and Twitter likes. Games can live and die now by the burn or praise of whoever gets a game code first and says something clever.
I quit watching during season 4. Even season 3 it started going downhill. Those first 2 seasons though, I remember being obsessed with it. Looking forward to the great big post apocalyptic world to explore. But they just kept running around the woods and the most boring places imaginable. Now they're going to france and new york but it's too late. I stopped caring soooooo long ago

What I really wanna see from a zombie game is one where Zombies don’t HAVE health. You can maim them, cut them up, whatever, but you NEED to destroy their head to keep them down. Seems like a severe missed opportunity for zombie games
We need a video game equivalent of the Razzie movie awards. Just an entire ceremony dedicated to ripping on the shittiest, most laughable failures of the year. If the only motivation for a studio is NOT to be nominated… well that’s a start.
I’ve never seen the show only played the first telltale game but let me tell you as a not very emotional person that games ending almost made me cry. This game just makes me contemplate why it exists
@@leithaziz2716I loved the first season so much, I’m considering playing the Michonne one, I just can’t justify buying any of them when I have to play as a female child which sounds insanely boring and annoying to me. When you play as Lee you know you can probably always sock someone in the face as a last resort if you need to, but I imagine the other seasons are just constantly running and hiding which sounds so lame, I liked leading a camp of survivors and protecting them
I coined a term in fiction called "Lost Syndrome." Basically, it's when a TV show kills off a character randomly mostly just for shock value in a fake attempt at raising the stakes. Lost was so popular that a lot of shows were doing it such as Heroes, The Walking Dead, and The 100. So when I heard that a game based off of those TV shows comes along and allows you to specifically alter the "destinies" of these pointless deaths for player engagement, that sounded like an instant game of the year premise. But to miss the landing this badly is so disappointing. The wasted potential is honestly the worst part of this whole thing. It could have been PS2-level graphics and gameplay and I would have been fine with that. The PS2 was good and had a lot of great games and the Destinies gimmick could have been leaned into to make up for it and it'd be an instant classic even as a budget game.
The difference is that Lost didn't kill off characters just for shock value. Every death served a greater purpose to the plot. When the Walking Dead kills Abraham, it's obviously for shock value because he is literally never brought up ever again.
There are plenty of characters who have different fates between the two. Like Sophia and Carl are still alive in the comics. Rick noped out of the show.@@onesaucynougat7471
The issue is that they could have made up for the games short comings very easily. If they changed the graphics of the cutscenes to look like pencil sketches it would harken back to the comic books, and make the still frames more acceptable. Changing the graphics of the game to be cell shaded would have done the same, and would have given the bland environment some life. It still would have been a wreck of a game, but it would have at least looked good, and hidden some of its shortcomings in an intelligent way. But now I’m thinking theres no way this “studio” who tricked a bunch of hollywood dumbasses don’t get sued into selling their organs to survive. They very clearly ripped off some executives.
They almost certainly planned to animate them but then lost the budget or couldn't make passable cutscenes so they just posed the characters and took screenshots like they were playing Garrys Mod. That's actually even cheaper than drawing them, maybe they didn't even have the budget for that.
I’m pretty sure Survival Instinct also had a mechanic where you could send survivors on scavenging runs while you were doing missions and they could die on them so it even had a bit more Risk v Reward with your group members then this game does it seems.
Honestly the idea of retreading through the show and being able to see things play out differently like having Merle with the group, Carl dying, or the Governor becoming an ally has some intrigue to it in a “what if” fanfiction kind of way that would be appealing to fans, but the execution was just downright awful.
This sucks, because I love the concept of this game so much. Even knowing how it is, part of that Walking Dead fan in me is tempted to get it. Definitely will get on a deep sale.
Hey Gman, the metal slug rocket launcher edit almost ruined my shirt when I snorted my coffee through my nose while trying to watch your video at work instead of working. Good stuff man.
The one idea I do think is worth salvaging is the ability to change the story of an established work through adaptation. I'd like to see more games let you make different choices from what happened in the source material.
It honestly looks like the devs had some interesting ideas going, and were trying for some cool mechanics. Hopefully the people that did those things finds a better team/publisher.
This is such an interesting concept for a game. Not even just TWD, I mean you could do GoT, Breaking Bad, whatever. Playing a whole What If? type story where you can see what would have happened if certain characters were alive or if things played out differently is super intriguing. A shame that this game turned out so lame. I don’t think it’s the worst one of the year, but definitely bad
the tank at 1:40 is a leopard 2, which is a German tank, not in service in America. it also has desert camo despite being in an urban environment. absolutely no attention to detail, they couldn't even make an accurate Abrams model, so they probably just searched tank models on the unity store and found this. absolutely horrible.
the funniest thing is they had the ideas down properly with a faithful recreation of the show but with a twist of changing the destinies, all they had to do was make the gameplay fun,HAVE ACTUAL good artstyle and graphics, because come on man,its been like 2-3 years since ps5 came out, current gen games shouldnt come out looking like ps2 games. But somehow failed at every point.

You know, the guy who keeps praising games for being "gloriously violent", saying how much fun it is to run amok in games like Postal and so on. He also claimed that there are no missions in GTA that make you kill civilians.
For me personally, a game doesn’t have to have the best graphics as long as the premise of the game is interesting enough. I liked the idea of rewriting the story and seeing the outcome of your choices compared to the choices made in the show. However the choices just feel lack luster. It mainly just switches out one character for another and rolls with it. As a fan of the comics, I knew that Sophia was supposed to survive until the end of the comics so I thought that it would be interesting to see that we could save Sophia and not let her die in S2. But some characters just end up dying no matter what you do. Not to mention that some characters are just absent from the game entirely. (Andrea, Amy, Jim, Martinez, Jacqui, The Vatos, Otis, Patricia, Jimmy) If this game had a competent team of writers and the devs had passion for what they were working on, it would have been interesting to see what this game could have been.
Man, I was willing to give this game a try if Andrea was in it, and make her live. Shes my fav and maybe its a good thing not see her in a game like this.
Hopefully one day someone can make a game that does the series justice. The premise of being able to choose was great on paper but they fumbled that football on literally everything else. I think Supermassive Games would've done a great job with this IP

being cheap is basically amcs whole deal. The reason the first season is so good is because they had a director who had a vision for the series, and they fired him. Then, they cut the budget to a miniscule amount and well here we are. AMC never cared about making anything good. they just want as much money for as little money spent as possible. The walking dead could have been so much better, which in return would have gotten them more profit, but instead all they could think about was how much they were going to get NOW.

@@Fartucus the ability to play through the game and change key events there was a lot of potential replay value to this
The sad part about The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is that it could've been a really good game.

@@MikeMarlowe-ym3zywow. Never have I seen someone so wrong and moronic
The walking dead killed off popular characters in the season 7 premiere because that’s what happened in the comics.
The faces in this game gives me "my face is tired" vibes
There is nothing intelligent about making a game based on a TV series and then emphasising its comic book version.

Hey Gman, the metal slug rocket launcher edit almost ruined my shirt when I snorted my coffee through my nose while trying to watch your video at work instead of working. Good stuff man.
The one idea I do think is worth salvaging is the ability to change the story of an established work through adaptation. I'd like to see more games let you make different choices from what happened in the source material.
this idea would be great for comic games. Imagine a Batman/Spider-man game where your choices changed the plot.
It honestly looks like the devs had some interesting ideas going, and were trying for some cool mechanics. Hopefully the people that did those things finds a better team/publisher.
At first I thought the cut scenes were static from the editing…not how the final product is hahah
This is such an interesting concept for a game. Not even just TWD, I mean you could do GoT, Breaking Bad, whatever. Playing a whole What If? type story where you can see what would have happened if certain characters were alive or if things played out differently is super intriguing.
