Sounds like the missions are really linear.... I hate being trapped in 'zones' killing waves of enemies... I mean seriously? In 2017 can dev's not design missions actually incorporating the open world design?
Well in an open world unless you must protect something people would just ignore the enemies and run away from them most of the time if they were not forced to fight them.
After the direction they took it in SR4... I think it'd be better to just do a reboot of 1 or even 2 since you don't really need to play SR1 to get the story of any of the others (although it does help with the various references).
The problem is that they've basically painted themselves in a corner with the story. Would have to do some kind of soft reboot, like time travel and get stranded.
It's the new norm and greed from devs/publishers. You pay full price for a game, that is now full of DLC and microtransactions. Those two now walk hand in hand ruining games for good. Man i want the game industry crash to happen soon cause it's fucking insane right now with how greedy they became and want more and more money out of you. How about you deliver quallity games first again. You know..games that are actually worth 60 dollars/euro's before you put content behind pay walls hm? Looking at you EA, Square, Activision, Sega and others.
That happens to most if not all new AAA games that come out now a days. The greed is companys always shows and some people will always defend the micro transactions saying something like "you dont need to buy them", your right you don't but the publishers want you to buy them so they might change aspects of the game to make them more enticing. For example a game that has some grinding in it will be changed so theirs tons of grinding and the only way to get past that is "buying microtransanction/ lootboxes". Look at dead space 3 and how well that went lol.
I just started playing this game (2019) and I love it so much. It's too bad it failed. I would love a sequel/expansion. At least it's really freaking cheap now. Well worth the money imo. Oni is my faaaave

I pre ordered last week. I had watched hours of gameplay and dev Interviews beforehand. I think I know what I'm getting into and it seems like it's for me.
I liked the part about difficulty emphasizing use of multiple agents or even agent roles (e.g. DPS, tank, boss DPS vs regular enemy DPS and crowd control). And it also sounds like there's a pretty huge endgame if you really care to go through all the difficulties/agents/upgrades (so 20 hour story but maybe... 100-150 to really max everything out?)
sounds a bit more like the 'progress' is a la.... maybe Borderlands: farming and grinding to get more and more personal power? the world is mostly there as an 'action arena' rather than a 'system' to re-take or control
I'm kinda bummed to hear about the garbage soundtrack. The music really made some parts of the Saints Row games memorable. The characters singing Take On Me while driving around in 2, Holding out for a Hero during that mission in 3, and the Armageddon part in 4 were all great. Was really hoping for more of that kinda stuff.

Why this game doesn't have coop is the gaming mystery of the month for me. This seems like it was literally designed to be a coop game, it has every single element of a replayable coop game with it's open world, grindy mission based nature, and variety of characters.
I'll buy when they make Edition with all DLC's in after building the computer. They might release co-op in meantime if fan community ask for it. Looks like really fun game, and Gat looks better than ever before :)

This would be fun as a free battle royale game. It could keep it’s characters and become a hero-type battle royale, the big city environment also gives it a unique flavor in comparison to the open countrysides of most of the competition. Could be cool

i have playd it for a while now and i got hook on it just found myself wanting more and felt it was kind of empty and felt every caracter story was too short the custum was weak but the game was s great idea but very weak they could had done so much more whit it but like i said i like the game i feel people should wait for a deep sale
The "area limit" when doing a mission is, for me, somewhat reminiscent of SR3's area limit when taking an impromptu mission (the kind that gets delivered over the phone): Have to stay within a circled area on the map, and if I left the area, within seconds the mission fails. But of course the area limit in SR3 is _much_ bigger than what I've seen on your review. Is all mission areas that limited? Aanyways, I still love me some SR flavor, even if this is not really an SR game. I'll wait for a deep discount and grab it :-)
No customization is a deal breaker for me. That was honestly what I loved the most about the Saints games. Why in the world would they make a game this big and lengthy without unlockable/purchasable items?

Been playing all weekend and honestly I'm impressed... playing on pro and I think it runs, plays and looks awesome! 60 fps helps and I love the characters... with all that said I'm a gamer that cares nothing about story; it's all about gameplay. To me, had way more fun with this over the Crackdowns. Can't wait to unlock the ninja chick! But even if I disagree with ACG he was fair in the review; great job brother!

As much as I have enjoyed saints row. I was really excited about this concept. I haven't picked up the game yet but I intend to later on. I hope 🤞 this isn't the end for this idea. The heroes seem like a lot of fun to use.

Verdict: eh, look at sunset overdrive instead. better open world, gunplay, traversal, weapon mechanics, enemy types, characters, world-building, story mission variety and dialogue that uses swear words properly. No driving though.
I’m having a lot of fun with it. I suppose it can be a bit confusing mission wise but I’m honestly just enjoying it in the most random fashion possible so I tend to not notice really. It performs well but could definitely use an FPS patch. Although seeing as how it’s so chaotic at times it holds up really well all things considered. I think this will be a niche title for the most part. Once it’s fully patched technically you’ll have a game which succeeds through what it’s looking to do just fine.
This is their only series that they can work on so here is my idea. They are trying out each ending so if we like an ending they will continue or some shit like that however they may try something else since look what happened with this game

Saints Row 2 took me by surprise, because I actually liked it more than GTA IV. I thought the story was much more fun. The gameplay was really enjoyable. Even though it was a complete rip off of GTA, I just really enjoyed the world (and even the writing had some good dramatic moments). I feel like a lot of people write this game off. I get it. I mean it’s a clone, and it also had those “grindy” mini games to progress missions. So it wasnt perfect. But I still really enjoyed it, and IMO it scratched the itch of older GTA games then IV failed to do. Then 3 came out, and it was also a ton of fun. It basically embraced the wackiness of Saints Row 2, and went all out (IMO it went a little too far, but overall I did enjoy that they embraced it and found their own niche). But then IV came out, and I feel that they jumped the shark - as much as its even possible to jump the shark for that kind of game lol. But i guess what I mean is, the game got so whacky and ridiculous, that it stopped being fun. It broke a lot of the mechanics that made the 2 and 3 really enjoyable. Its kind of like how you can break a game on PC, by using trainers/cheat codes + mods. Might be cool for 5 min, but then you realize by breaking the game, it stops being enjoyable. That is pretty much what IV was for me. Also I think they pushed the silliness soooo far to the extreme, that it stopped being endearing, and was just annoying. So it is so sad to me, to see them swing and miss with Agents of Mayhem. This game honestly looks sterile/cold and lifeless. I mean, yeah the “characters” are zany and over the top. But the world itself, looks overly clean (as ACG said, like Overwatch meets Crackdown). But its not just the cold/sterile look of the game, its just EVERYTHING. The whole game comes off like a free to play, online only title. It’s such a damn shame what has happened to the devs. I really hope that they can reboot Saints Row at some point, but dial it back down. Focus more on world building, a better balance of being funny and serious + all the fun gameplay elements that made it enjoyable to begin with. Or I guess, just focus on a new IP all together that isnt like a “side” game (cuz Agents of Mayhem just feels like a side thing for Saints Row).

If I read from multiple sources that the game doesn't run well on pc, I wait. It's painful, so many potentially great games are held back by performance issues.

On a beautiful day like this how could I... oh wait acg uploaded. Great review, being honest my opinion is far different. I am a few hours in and really enjoying it because of the characters and openworld. I agree that more missions need more creative segments but the core gameplay I found very fun and so far switching up agents is mostly fixing the occasional lackluster mission and helps me switch my gameplay style. Also I haven't even noticed micro transactions but knowing they're here really bothers me but at least they aren't intrusive like shadow of war seems to be. I agree completely with the music being nothing special and while I wouldn't say it was bad, it just was uneventful. Honestly with saints row having amazing soundtracks I expected more in that department. Customization could have also been handled better with deeper systems or at least borderlands 2 amounts of skins but there is at least some cool ones like joker. Overall I'm glad i bought the game and actually enjoy the driving and gameplay very much, I enjoyed seeing ur perspective on it. Chik... Chik Chikaaahh

Picked up Matterfall on PS4 tonight (Housemarque is on fire!) also released Nex Machina this year as well. They're also responsible for Deadnation, Alienation, Super Stardust and of course Resogun. It could definitely end up being my favorite Housemarque game if it keeps up at this pace. Only disappointed in the fact that there is no real PS4 Pro support, 900p 60fps on standard and PS4 Pro 1080p 60fps. Especially when Resogun and their lastest game Nex Machina receiving native 4K 60fps on the Pro.. Karack, please review Matterfall. It needs the spotlight! Also, can't wait to pick up my Sonic Mania collector's edition at Best Buy tomorrow morning. SONIC IS BACK! Was interested in this game because of it being Saints Row spin-off, but it honestly just feels like a Crackdown ripoff with swappable characters. I also have open world fatigue. The only games that have saved me from that have been The Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild. I'll rent it at Redbox on my way home from Best Buy. I'll give it a quick shot. I just feel like Matterfall and Sonic Mania are overshadowing it We also have Uncharted Lost Legacy the 22nd (going to be insane) and Mario + Rabbids, and Absolver on the 29th. Just too much for a yet another generic open world game

probably the hero based shooting, you normally only see it in multiplayer so it's an easy mistake to make.

Commander Shepard 3 was a disappointment and 4 isn't even a Saints Row game to begin with. The old Saints Row will always be the best.

No customization is a deal breaker for me. That was honestly what I loved the most about the Saints games. Why in the world would they make a game this big and lengthy without unlockable/purchasable items?

Been playing all weekend and honestly I'm impressed... playing on pro and I think it runs, plays and looks awesome! 60 fps helps and I love the characters... with all that said I'm a gamer that cares nothing about story; it's all about gameplay. To me, had way more fun with this over the Crackdowns. Can't wait to unlock the ninja chick! But even if I disagree with ACG he was fair in the review; great job brother!
I'll keep my eye on this game because the world and gameplay I've seen so far looks very fun to me but hearing about the issues you brought up in the video I'll pick this up during a sale. Good thing I caught on to your review in time
As much as I have enjoyed saints row. I was really excited about this concept. I haven't picked up the game yet but I intend to later on. I hope 🤞 this isn't the end for this idea. The heroes seem like a lot of fun to use.

Thank you for the video, buddy. Very informative. The "full" version is on sale right now for $12.50, and after watching this video, I am still extremely conflicted as to if it's worth it. Good price, but from the sound of it, I think that it just doesn't possess the same replay value as I was hoping for.
Just bought this game on ps4 with all the dlc for 6 bucks. It may not be the best game but for 6 bucks I'll get my money's worth.

better open world, gunplay, traversal, weapon mechanics, enemy types, characters, world-building, story mission variety and dialogue that uses swear words properly.
No driving though.
Dont forget, Parkour and simple character creation.

I’m having a lot of fun with it. I suppose it can be a bit confusing mission wise but I’m honestly just enjoying it in the most random fashion possible so I tend to not notice really. It performs well but could definitely use an FPS patch. Although seeing as how it’s so chaotic at times it holds up really well all things considered. I think this will be a niche title for the most part. Once it’s fully patched technically you’ll have a game which succeeds through what it’s looking to do just fine.
This is their only series that they can work on so here is my idea.
They are trying out each ending so if we like an ending they will continue or some shit like that however they may try something else since look what happened with this game
Its a pretty fun shooter, I spend about 20 hours on the story

SR4 crashed my PC fairly often while playing it, especially in multiplayer for some reason.

Oddly I know I'm still buying it on the sheer reason that I loved Saints Row. I just do not understand the micro transaction.

I had no idea a new saints row was coming up, even if it'd have a different name. Thanks for the heads up, and the review.
Saints Row 2 took me by surprise, because I actually liked it more than GTA IV. I thought the story was much more fun. The gameplay was really enjoyable. Even though it was a complete rip off of GTA, I just really enjoyed the world (and even the writing had some good dramatic moments). I feel like a lot of people write this game off. I get it. I mean it’s a clone, and it also had those “grindy” mini games to progress missions. So it wasnt perfect. But I still really enjoyed it, and IMO it scratched the itch of older GTA games then IV failed to do.
Then 3 came out, and it was also a ton of fun. It basically embraced the wackiness of Saints Row 2, and went all out (IMO it went a little too far, but overall I did enjoy that they embraced it and found their own niche). But then IV came out, and I feel that they jumped the shark - as much as its even possible to jump the shark for that kind of game lol. But i guess what I mean is, the game got so whacky and ridiculous, that it stopped being fun. It broke a lot of the mechanics that made the 2 and 3 really enjoyable. Its kind of like how you can break a game on PC, by using trainers/cheat codes + mods. Might be cool for 5 min, but then you realize by breaking the game, it stops being enjoyable. That is pretty much what IV was for me. Also I think they pushed the silliness soooo far to the extreme, that it stopped being endearing, and was just annoying.
So it is so sad to me, to see them swing and miss with Agents of Mayhem. This game honestly looks sterile/cold and lifeless. I mean, yeah the “characters” are zany and over the top. But the world itself, looks overly clean (as ACG said, like Overwatch meets Crackdown). But its not just the cold/sterile look of the game, its just EVERYTHING. The whole game comes off like a free to play, online only title.
It’s such a damn shame what has happened to the devs. I really hope that they can reboot Saints Row at some point, but dial it back down. Focus more on world building, a better balance of being funny and serious + all the fun gameplay elements that made it enjoyable to begin with. Or I guess, just focus on a new IP all together that isnt like a “side” game (cuz Agents of Mayhem just feels like a side thing for Saints Row).
Emily Richards not every open world crime game is a gta rip off. they dont own that genre. and dont come at me saying they made that genre popular, it doesnt change that they dont own it and any game can be open world where you can kill and rob cars. saints row is saints row and gta is gta.

If I read from multiple sources that the game doesn't run well on pc, I wait. It's painful, so many potentially great games are held back by performance issues.

They really love the color purple don't they. I know it sounds stupid, but I really get over the look over these games (saints row gimmicky purple thing). Kinda wish they'd taken a slightly different direction if it isn't a SR game.
The game looks like it was designed to be an mmo, shared world or at least a co op it's very strange that isn't there I think it would make this game way more enjoyable

On a beautiful day like this how could I... oh wait acg uploaded. Great review, being honest my opinion is far different. I am a few hours in and really enjoying it because of the characters and openworld. I agree that more missions need more creative segments but the core gameplay I found very fun and so far switching up agents is mostly fixing the occasional lackluster mission and helps me switch my gameplay style. Also I haven't even noticed micro transactions but knowing they're here really bothers me but at least they aren't intrusive like shadow of war seems to be. I agree completely with the music being nothing special and while I wouldn't say it was bad, it just was uneventful. Honestly with saints row having amazing soundtracks I expected more in that department. Customization could have also been handled better with deeper systems or at least borderlands 2 amounts of skins but there is at least some cool ones like joker. Overall I'm glad i bought the game and actually enjoy the driving and gameplay very much, I enjoyed seeing ur perspective on it. Chik... Chik Chikaaahh

Picked up Matterfall on PS4 tonight (Housemarque is on fire!) also released Nex Machina this year as well. They're also responsible for Deadnation, Alienation, Super Stardust and of course Resogun. It could definitely end up being my favorite Housemarque game if it keeps up at this pace. Only disappointed in the fact that there is no real PS4 Pro support, 900p 60fps on standard and PS4 Pro 1080p 60fps. Especially when Resogun and their lastest game Nex Machina receiving native 4K 60fps on the Pro..

Was interested in this game because of it being Saints Row spin-off, but it honestly just feels like a Crackdown ripoff with swappable characters. I also have open world fatigue. The only games that have saved me from that have been The Witcher 3 and Breath of the Wild. I'll rent it at Redbox on my way home from Best Buy. I'll give it a quick shot. I just feel like Matterfall and Sonic Mania are overshadowing it
We also have Uncharted Lost Legacy the 22nd (going to be insane) and Mario + Rabbids, and Absolver on the 29th. Just too much for a yet another generic open world game
