Season 1: Hannah
Season 2: Life after Hannah
Season 3: RIVERDALE
that's an insult to riverdale
Riverdale takes a murder mystery plot, takes multiple hallucinogens, and then starts writing. That show goes freaking everywhere, from a board game drug cult to brainwashing churches. In other words, Riverdale is interesting.
Don't do that Riverdale like that compare them to this garbage and river days just entitled to 2 time because if you want to waste your time fucking staring at the wall because staring at a wall for 30-minutes makes as much sense as that showed us Riverdale and 13 reasons why I am speaking about.

Riverdale is an actual dumpsterfire but at least you get some masochistic pleasure in cringing at every scene. 13 reasons is just kinda bland in comparison, and way too edgy.
The 13 Lessons I Learned from 13 Reasons Why
1. People suck and High School sucks.
2. Keep secrets from everyone.
3. Everyone’s problems should be your business.
4. Lie in court.
5. If I want to escape my problems, then I should do drugs.
6. If I get depression or have thoughts of self harm, I shouldn’t do everything in my power to seek help, but blame everyone.
7. If you disagree about someone’s political/religious views, label them as either crazy or something negative.
8. Embrace stereotypes affiliated with the type of person you are.
9. Rapists with no redeeming qualities or guilt for their actions are people too.
10. If I want to stop a school shooting, I should walk outside and confront the shooter.
11. If I want to get away with murder, I need the right crew.
12. Never learn a goddamn thing.
13. Avoid writing annoying characters like Ani and that one chick with glasses.
(In all seriousness though, please do the exact opposite of all these lessons that the show’s clearly sadistic writers gave, minus the last one.)
Well... the first one is true, though.
You're 99.9% right. This show does not know what to teach teens, but... I'd have to disagree with two points: while yes, people who commit heinous acts *deserve* to not be redeemed, but the sad almost depressing fact of life is... even the most horrible people on this earth are still people, and they should be treated with as much professional help as possible. On that note: the school shooter scene:
I will say, going up to a school shooter and talking to him while he has a gun in hand ready to shoot you is a dumb idea, but again, maybe that could work. I'm saying you should do it, don't do it, but maybe, just maybe talking to him and listening to his problems could work. By that I mean it could also end horribly.
Those are just people, and I wish this series handled the issue of mental health way more properly.
@@frightening_volleyball1231 Seeking professional help isn't the same thing as implying that those people are entitled to any form of forgiveness or reintegration into their former community.
Wuh oh we already got some homies who entirely missed the point of #9. I know damn well if someone I knew went up to a rapist and started treating them as kindly as their granny I would never interact with that person again, lmao
#10 couldn’t be more accurate
It's a well established fact that once a series is completely out of idea's that there's ONLY one place left to go: SPACE!
Or a road trip.
Space road trip.
They could bring Bryce back as a zombie
The one place that hasn't been corrupted by capitalism!
13 Reasons Why We’re Going to Space. That would definitely be more enjoyable than what they went with.

Clay has a mental illness, in season 1 his mom mentions his medication, and then they never talk about it EVER again. So they're going to feel like the best writers when they finally bring that back up.
@@Brocolli_Pizza They kind of forgot about the mental illness
NOT TO WORRY, DEAR VIEWER!
The final season's main story is Clay going to therapy and the therapist is Lt. Dan himself, Gary Sinise.
I wish I was kidding. They are actually going to find a way to ruin the concept of going to therapy and getting help for your mental health problems.
Final episode clay wakes up, looks at the pills on his bedside cabinet, smiles it was just a dream but it’s not over, he smile fades remembering the party last night he gets out of bed. Cut to clay busting out his houses then cut to clay running into Hannah’s house bursts into Hannah’s bathroom there she is with the razor bear her arm, she looks at him through tear filled eyes. Clay takes her hand and whispers “I’ll never leave you again” Run by Snow patrol starts playing in the background Hannah’s parents start clapping from outside the bathroom door and slowly are joined by the other characters, they begin to kiss slowly the door closes in the final shot is the door ‘The End?” The title reads.

@@coconoot_ they mean the characters in the show like her
i can't believe this show is supposed to be
"a learning tool for young people to starting having a conversation"
the main characters are literally murdering people, framing others and hiding guns
they're criminals with no moral code
Yeah, at least season 1 ATTEMPTED talking about mental illness, even if it did it horribly.
Right it seems like they choose which people to help seemingly at random. They decided to forgive Tyler for literally trying to shoot up a school but didn't forgive Bryce for raping girls. Obviously, neither should be forgiven and both should receive the punishment they deserve, but they didn't do that and decided that Tyler did nothing wrong and he was just a poor troubled boy. They(the writers) even made Zach seem like the asshole for wanting to turn Tyler in, even though that is the completely sensible choice.
richhobo1216 With Tyler they wanted to highlight that if schools actually stopped bullies instead of punishing the ones who are bullied and actually implement a good mental health system at the schools things like school Shoo*ings could be prevented. They also wanted to show how just being a friendly person towards those in need you can actually make a huge positive impact on them.
Kshatriya Right and it also pushed the message that you should try to talk down school shooters, endangering not only your life but the whole school.
@@kshatriya1414 yes, showing that being friendly to other can have a positive impact is a good message; but did they really had to do that with a school shooter? I mean, if Tyler was at the point to shoot the entire school and didn't plan to make it alive, he doesn't only need friends friend, but a profesional therapist. The idea that mental illness can be cured by teenagers is a bit dangerous.
It's gross that fangirls started stanning Monty simply because he's gay and has an abusive dad. Neither of those things change that he was a monster and deserved what he got.
THANK. YOU. They see one scene where he’s disrespected and they go: moNtY x wIlSToN mOnTY X wIsToN! Like....one sad scene doesn’t make him a good person. It really doesn’t.
Still, his arc was ended so shitty that I really was mad that he had to die.
Like, just leave him in prison, why the fuck does he have to die?
It fascinates me how some groups of people can be so starved for characters like them that they will leech onto the first character they see that is remotely like them, ignoring awful things they do just because they get representation.
I'm a huge LGBT supporter, but there is a very fine line between "This character is what I am therefore I shall stan" and "This character shares something in common with me, but I won't support them because they raped a guy with a broomstick."
Yeah, the only people that genuinely like this show for what it is are dumbass teenagers.
YES the whole “he’s like this because he’s gay “ arc is terrible
This season may be over, but it will be reborn in the pilots of millions of Netflix shows.

I honestly hate the “homophobe who is secretly gay” trope that they have with Monty
everyone in the show is a trope, Bryce is EEEEEEVIL! but StIll A hUMaN BeiNG! the school shooter is a quiet kid, the Hispanic guy is an illegal immigrant because Hollywood doesn't believe in legal immigration, the obnoxious Tumblr stereotype girl looks and acts just like said stereotype, and she wears only t-shirts with rainbows because the writers hate subtlety, the old MC is just white guy for people to project themselves into, and the new MC is POC self insert from some fanfic.

Bryce is basically a teenage ted bundy except he has no charisma.
@M S Doesnt seem like a compliment. Ted Bundy was VERY charismatic - to the point that there are still women out there who wanna be with him, despite what he'd done. Idk what else to call that but charisma.
Omari Ramsey Those women are clear he got the chair about 30 years ago right?
Played by a dude in his 30's
@M S I think you can also see that people see Ted as charismatic aswell by Zac Efron being cast as an accurate depiction of him
@@georgeferrett1799 pretty sure they are. Ted Bundy has a fanclub/cult type following of women who think he was hot and they conduct tours anywhere that has anything to do with him. Theres a full doc about it
I dont think its realistic. Every character is either a rapist, been raped, a murderer, drug addict, drug dealer, illegal possession of fire arms, lied to police or lied under oath or done something illegal. It makes no sense. I can only think of Tony who hasn't done something wrong, but even he keeps secrets for people that he knows are illegal.
Tony has insane anger management issues and constantly acts out in very physical and damaging ways. Every character is so over-the-top flawed they just become caricatures of every stereotype ever.
Instead of being interesting characters who've gone through serious shit they're all just one note and defined by a single personality trait. Instead of being people who bad things happened to those bad things are all there is to them.
Exactly, there’s nothing mild, like “oh they just party every now and then and like to smoke a bit” instead its “oh they go to school fried and party till they blackout”
Yknow id say that at least a lot of the characters started out as normal but flawed people, and then they became so messed up because of the situation involving the people around them such as Hannah and Bryce etc
Sounds like it's got EastEnders syndrome

Wasn't this show supposed to be about a girl's suicide?
Hannah could be taken out entirely and hardly anything would change
Without Hannah none of this would have happened
Fijiivibes And yet the show tried to continue without her.
Shayla Nash I think they wanted the show to be about the aftermath of her killing herself. Like how her death caused a domino effect and changed everything. I don’t think they wanted the whole show to be about her
Fijiivibes Well, to be brutally honest, this would never happen in real life even if 13 tapes were distributed to people who wronged the victim. The show makes it sound like suicide is a form of revenge (which it is not). And the way they treated Hannah’s motivation to kill herself is unrealistic too. Constantly the show says that bullying and peer pressure is the problem but it’s not just that. Mental health and family life are much more important for a child’s psyche.
@@zachbetz6326 she killed herself after being raped, not exactly a stretch

Why couldn’t they have just stopped with Season 1? It pisses me off so much that they promote themselves as this great show with great messages, yet they’re unnecessarily dragging the story on just for money.
I liked season 2. Its existence made sense: it was the trial following the crimes committed in season 1. I don't think season 3 was necessary at all but these characters are so popular Netflix didn't want to let them go. Instead of having a whole new season of 13 episodes, season 3 could've been an hour-long epilogue showing us the characters' lives after the trial. Did we need another 13 episodes? No.
I'm one of the few to admit Season 1 was so good and actually had something to say. After that, it just became the melodramatic, edgy nonsense everyone claimed it was from the beginning.
I think so too! Season 3 was so unnecessary
It was superficial garbage from the start, it portrayed people with mental problems as melodramatic egoists who wallow in their despair so lovingly, they create a podcast about it. Its "messages" prompted numerous mental health experts to warn the public of how harmful it was, and that backlash is the only reason they started adding those mental heath PSAs later on. That show is a slap in the face of anyone who actually struggled with mental health.

I think the big reason why the “horrible people are still people” argument usually falls flat is because, while bad people often come from bad families, not everyone that comes from a bad family becomes a bad person. Some become VERY good people because they don’t want to put others through what they’ve been through. Saying “they became bad because of bad families” not only does a disservice to the people who became good despite their families, but it also encourages people to succumb to their poor upbringing. “It’s okay if you’re bad, you came from a bad family after all. Blame them for all your bad actions instead of blaming yourself and possibly learning to be a better person.”
Yet another horrible lesson taught by this “educational” show.
Good analysis, but I wouldn't call it "horrible people are still people". That one seems more to have more to do with compassion or not "sinking to their level", whereas the argument you describe is more in line with moral determinism, where people are believed to have no choice in the kind of person they'll become, resulting in them just being a product of circumstance.
@TrolleyXLakers __ You bring an interesting point. People usually take the circumstances approach only in trauma, as if bad experiences automatically make you a bad person (which is an obvious strawman), but in reality, circumstances affect you in many different ways, they teach you lessons and instruct you in the way you act.
Winged Mirage This is a bad point. Yes, most people who come from bad families don’t become rapists. But that doesn’t make environment any less of a factor. You’ll see what I mean if I use smoking as an analogy. Most people who smoke cigarettes don’t get cancer but that doesn’t mean smoking doesn’t cause cancer. It just means that there are other genetic and environmental factors that determine whether or not the smoking will cause cancer in that specific person.
First of all it’s important to note that “bad family” is an extremely broad category. Not all bad families are the same. A household with a father who molests the children is different from one where the parents are drug addicts which is different from one where your older siblings are gang members, etc... These are all “bad families” but each will influence the kids differently. So saying that you know someone who came from a bad family but didn’t become a bad person doesn’t tell us anything because every “bad family” is different.
Next, people respond differently to similar environments. Why is this? Part of it is genetics and part of it is itself more environment. Someone who’s genetically more resilient will deal with abuse better than someone who isn’t. For an environmental example someone who is getting abused at home but has good friends has a better chance than someone who is getting abused at home and has no friends.
And this doesn’t just apply to people who end up bad. This is also for people who end up good. Good people are just as much products of their environment as bad people. And for the people who were raised in bad environments but turned out good, there will be other factors that explain why despite having some bad influences they were still able to overcome it. An easy example is maybe you grew up in a shitty home with shitty parents and a shit education but you had a sister who cared about you a lot and was a role model and looking up to her allowed you to overcome the other bad influences. It’s a combination of different factors.
I think if two people had the same genetics and exactly the same environment and life experiences, they would end up exactly the same.
It also gives genuinely awful people ammunition to use against others. "Look, it's not MY fault, my mommy beat me/I was molested/I missed the ice cream man that one time!"
Sad fact is, some people are just inherently no matter how good a home life they had.
Agreed! Especially in fiction, when a character acts, they should ideally earn either reward or punishment. Having a bad guy, who is never convincingly redeemed, never be punished, and have the narrative treat him in a rewarding manner? That’s really frustrating for an audience. We want people to be held accountable for the good or the pain the inflict on others. It’s just bad writing

They act as if he didn’t exist. Not to mention his issues with drugs, dealing, and his mom’s bf. It’s not solved at all.

The writers of this show should really be ashamed of themselves. The season might not have been as controversial, but it could have been a decent one without such a shitty message in the end.
C VR I thought it was interesting and maybe I was the only one but I kind of thought the point was that he wasn’t redeemable no matter how much you could try to make him with his story and him being “sorry” that he was just a terrible terrible person and his anger at Zach and his the world won’t let me change we’re just proof that he didn’t get it that he thought he was entitled to redemption if he just followed the right steps but failed to see that no one “deserves” redemption you don’t earn it it has to be given like throughout all the humanising scenes there we these bits where he would reveal how entitled he was and that he could never truly be sorry or be better because he thought he deserved to be forgiven I don’t know maybe it’s just me who saw that
I’d say, if this was season 2 and not 3, it would’ve been a lot more palatable. It wouldn’t have been great, but his struggles and humanising moments would’ve been more tolerable if we hadn’t been treated to 2 seasons of him being an over the top super villain beforehand. It’s kind of too-little-too-late in both scenarios, but if he was super villain in season 1, humanised and killed in season 2, that’s more tolerable bc it means that from the start of the narrative opening up, we see other sides of him.

To be honest, this show would have been kind of OK if it was marketed as a teen drama.

This is not Ok as a teen drama either. It's indulgent garbage designed to stroke the ego of mentally ill people. In some sense this is objectively evil
I personally think this show is good, but only because I view it as a teen drama; that is to say PURELY a piece of entertainment and NOT some sort of educational piece that is supposed to start conversations. The writers and cast members are making absolute fools of themselves by implying that it is anything but that.
To me, it seems like they wanted to continue to ride the popularity of the show by making more seasons, but the only way they could continue the story was to turn it into Riverdale. So they turned the show into a drama, but they couldn't just drop the whole "conversation starter" aspect of Season 1 (because that would be a really bad look--it would show that they really don't give a shit about the issues they talk about and are really just in it for the money), so they continued to pretend like this show was some sort of ground-breaking message, even though there are no true life lessons to be found throughout Seasons 2 or 3.

Sure, give your villain some "human" traits. Ffs, Hitler had a very soft spot for dogs. But don't shoehorn it in in the season just because you want us to feel bad about this horrible person.

They've essentially disliked him since season one, when they learned he was a stalker and took the photo of Hannah & Courtney (going so far as to omit him from the pact several of them made to keep Clay from finding out about Bryce raping Hannah via the tapes). Then, in season two, most of them don't even give a second glance to Tyler after he testifies in court about the goings-on at the school and he's almost forced into making new friends (cue the stereotypical punk rock-loving anarchist kids with an axe to grind about the establishment).

“I will die and be reborn as 1000 men” is a line way too cool for this shitty “we live in a society” teen drama
Topaz Stars it sounds like an anime line. Just... very out of place in this.
Just A Crab yeah
@@topazstars7734 what ur thoughts on this show overall
Exactly, it's a great line, but the show can't just have writing like that for one moment and then go on to do melodramatic teenage bullshit for the rest of it, if it expects anyone to take it seriously.
It's a line that's so good, I almost feel like it's plagiarized.
The fact that they advertise this as a realistic portrait of High school is hilarious
Sky High was more realistic
@@Saiaxs facts
I feel like the producers of this show were all homeschooled and have no idea how to teenage.
Please do season four. It's horribly bad. I couldn't even finish it

I watched a summary and i can only say WTF
Yeah it was trash and rip Justin
@@josh_xd9395 What???? Justin dies in season 4?
I wanted to ask if it was that bad, because I hated so much the end of season 3 that I didn't want to watch. (the only thing that makes it bearable for me is if everyone goes in prison at the end of the season, but it won't, so...)
@@nanalove3819 Yeah he gets AIDS and dies.
Seriously
