I’ve never watched the show, but I really like the idea of each person having their own “hormone monster” that’s could be a manifestation of their insecurities, sense of independence, intrusive thoughts, etc. We could watch characters of varying ages (or the same character at different ages) and see how different the experiences become over time. Eventually healthy adults make peace with their monster. We could see adults who never learned to do that who are toxic or immature even when they’re older. Idk.

Shows like Love, Death + Robots and Castlevania prove that adult western animation can not only tackle mature and philosophical themes, but can also be beautiful, and not solely rely on cheap shock and gross-out humour.

My favorite uses of breaking the forth wall was in Ed Edd n Eddy. I usually only watch kids cartoons like ducktales or tawog because I honestly find those shows more mature. Adult cartoons only ever have the same jokes which is "haha sex is funny" "look how gross this is" and "oh you didn't expect that shock humor is totally not a shortcut to telling an actual joke". Disclaimer: what I meant or what part of the show I meant is the show where they all do dress-ups and do a nice lil musical about it being inappropriate and not at all for children. I really liked this and it was a fun musical number. Then, the plot went on and apparently it was about a man being basically forced to have sex with a woman and then she framed him for taking sexual advantage from him when he declined. All of this I thought was quite realistic and I was really sure they were going to do those serious messages where they explain something important about sex or rape and stuff. Then it turned out the show stuff was slightly sexist and racist when the whatever his name was changed pieces of the script up and mixed new character names in in the show. I myself enjoyed this and hoped that maybe it would be about sexism, male rape victims and racism. Sweet. Then the kids of course wants to cancel the show completely and make sure that they do not perform. All of this I took well and understood. Then apparently it turned out the gals were trying to explain that women should always be trusted, when that isn’t the case. For example my uncle once got taken advantage of by one of his students. He is a teacher. She told everyone that he was sexually assisting her and stuff. Then with almost too much evidence the cops still didn’t even trust him. It took him months of explaining to get the truth out and she was t even dealt with. I excuse my English. I am not a native English speaker. That’s when I got really mad. When the show wouldn’t even acknowledge men could be raped I got extremely mad. That’s all, hope you all understand.

Adult cartoons, especially ones by Netflix, need to learn that Adult Cartoons don't need to have a gross art style, and horrible, vulgur, and lewd humor. you don't need to have that for an adult cartoon! The only exceptions are Beevus and Butthead, because that show does not, in the slightest take itself seriously, it's for a laugh purely. And King Of The Hill. KOTH doesn't necessarily have a bad art style, nor does humor, but it can be technically put in there.

I usually only watch kids cartoons like ducktales or tawog because I honestly find those shows more mature. Adult cartoons only ever have the same jokes which is "haha sex is funny" "look how gross this is" and "oh you didn't expect that shock humor is totally not a shortcut to telling an actual joke". Its like adult cartoons try to be as ugly and crude as possible to show they are mature when it does the opposite. Shows like Avatar look beautiful and have deep emotional characters I like, not lazy and loud characters overcompensating so hard to look mature. It reminds me of Disney Channel sitcoms where everyone is wearing bright colors and yelling all the time.

Yeah, Rick and Morty and Bojack are definitely easier to look at than this. All the main characters are proportioned in a way that doesn't make me uncomfortable to look at. Plus, I can handle a certain level of something looking bad if it's *funny* enough to warrant it (something like Aqua Teen Hunger Force) but this show just isn't funny enough to counter balance it.
@Tommy The animation is 'okay' at best. It's not even on par with newer Family Guy seasons, so calling it anything above 'okay' just doesn't seem fair. It almost has that "pre packaged animation" feel.
I think Futurama also did the musical numbers and quite well.

there was an episode of rick and morty where rick accidentally gets an alien sex doll pregnant but they made it actually clever because it wasn’t too heavily focused on a 14 year old having sex.. gross, but there’s a side plot and it’s not lol random in your face. if you watch that episode it’s actually quite good. not the best from rick and morty but better than big mouth. i feel like big mouth just stole that idea and made it grosser and the plot of a whole episode and so talked about and they don’t know when to stop or when it’s too far. i know this is really long but i just hate big mouth so muchh
If your uncomfortable watching it, be glad you don't have to hear real 13 year olds brag about it

Disclaimer: what I meant or what part of the show I meant is the show where they all do dress-ups and do a nice lil musical about it being inappropriate and not at all for children. I really liked this and it was a fun musical number. Then, the plot went on and apparently it was about a man being basically forced to have sex with a woman and then she framed him for taking sexual advantage from him when he declined. All of this I thought was quite realistic and I was really sure they were going to do those serious messages where they explain something important about sex or rape and stuff. Then it turned out the show stuff was slightly sexist and racist when the whatever his name was changed pieces of the script up and mixed new character names in in the show. I myself enjoyed this and hoped that maybe it would be about sexism, male rape victims and racism. Sweet. Then the kids of course wants to cancel the show completely and make sure that they do not perform. All of this I took well and understood. Then apparently it turned out the gals were trying to explain that women should always be trusted, when that isn’t the case. For example my uncle once got taken advantage of by one of his students. He is a teacher. She told everyone that he was sexually assisting her and stuff. Then with almost too much evidence the cops still didn’t even trust him. It took him months of explaining to get the truth out and she was t even dealt with. I excuse my English. I am not a native English speaker. That’s when I got really mad. When the show wouldn’t even acknowledge men could be raped I got extremely mad. That’s all, hope you all understand.

Another thing about it, it just feels so creepy? Like I shouldn't be watching it? Thing is like you said other cartoons have done the same things as big mouth and I enjoy it, but when big mouth gets their hands on a joke its always so awkward and cringey.
I would try to defend the show and talk about why I love it, but I am aware of my own susceptibility to enjoying basically any type of content or entertainment so... I have no good argument... I'm way too easy to please.

Same for me I've just never had much of a problem with stuff that people don't like I've just always found it easier to enjoy things on a base level and not dig too deep and not to say that I don't like some stuff on a deeper and more critical level but with mindless comedy like this I think it's just better to enjoy it without really thinking about it
I think all of Alex's points held up except the irrational frustration with the hormone monster. Personally I enjoyed this show but it made me uncomfortable and I have no desire to watch it again.

Agreed, and it actually has a unique and pretty art style, even if anthropomorphic animals aren't your thing. Ugly art styles only work for really crude-humour shows like South Park and Ricky & Morty.
