I totally agree about the user interface. I hate it when everything is buried in menus, on a touch screen. Gimme a freaking button! I can hit the button while driving, without taking my eyes off the road for more than a split second. The same can't be said for a touch screen.
That bit at the end is oh so true. We're basically still cavemen, with a bunch of fancy new toys. Our technological progress is outpacing our evolutionary progress by orders of magnitude. We've reached a point where our own technology has become like magic to us, because we can't wrap our monkey brains around it.
It made me smile to hear you ranting about apps, passwords and constantly giving out personal information. I feel exactly the same but thought it was because I'm 57 years old, but it turns out its a cross-generational thing 😀
I'm in my 20s, a cybersecurity professional, and I also agree. It's overcomplicating a non issue and only giving companies the opportunity for a data breach.
What a glorious RANT!!! So raw and quote-able! - "It sounds like a vacuum" - "Purely mechanical/analog things are gone" - "Vibration-free, sound-free, smell-free, the sounds we have are fake" This was tear-jerkingly funny. I loved your perspective and conclusion. THANK YOU!
@@eTiMaGoIn general yes, but he is wrong about the screen controls. He only had few hours of experience and you can't expect everything to be straight forward. For people that don't drive manual transmission it's nightmare but for people who are used to it it's simple. Same with screen. To me menus are perfect. Want to open the hood well you just press the hood on the screen it's straight forward. Climate controls on screen have big buttons that are easy to use.
I think many of us die hard gasoline car lovers don't dislike EVs as a concept or product. It's the regulations that surround their adoption and remove the choice of having an analouge option that pisses us off. The used and classics market is great until speculators and time destroy the prices of entry-level sports cars and eventually basic cheap transportation. Lotta young people already discouraged that the cars they thought they'd be able to buy in high school are now unattainable without a lot of time and money.
Petrolhead here. I had one of these for 4 years. I agree, undoubtedly the best daily to drive around town and get the kids to school safely with a full "tank" everyday when you can charge home, plus very limited maintenance. Now the biggest problem is that the acceleration is the only party trick, you need something else for the weekends. Personally chose an MX5, which is slower, less practical, less safe, more expensive to run (and insure in my area, an MX5 yup!) but it brings the smiles the Tesla is missing. Thanks for all your great content!
@@mikanunx both his hand gestures of frustration with the interface and his aggressive driving on a twisty road became progressively more italian (though he is bosnian)
I am a retired engineer. I've been arguing your points on user interface FOREVER! First principles of human/machine interaction should not be violated! Most drivers are used to a stoplight that has RED as stop, GREEN as go. Change that, and you kill a lot of people. Change the paradigm of daily car use and you get a lot of very frustrated people! The screen should at least mimic a row of commonly used buttons available on practically every car. Great comments on tribalism by the way.
Go rent a rental car from a maker you are not familiar with, I did last year and that Puegot has so many controls so badly positioned it took me 10 minutes to unfold the wing mirrors and the navigation controls were so bad I used my iPhone for 4 days before I was able to switch to car nav. Why the narrator of the show could not see the hazard button which is above the rear view mirror, same place it is in many cars I have no idea. This kind of blindness is common on people with obvious anger management issues though.
@@jjamespacbell "Go rent a rental car from a maker you are not familiar with" I had this 15 years ago (I think it was a VW Passat). I had a 500 mile business trip and the car was dropped off in the company car park with the keys left at reception. A hire car so no user manual. The "handbrake" is a pushbutton and was simply crap. It would either roll back down a slope or stay on and stall the motor when I pulled away. No functional benefit to the user, simply change for it's own sake.
I hope you were saying this from actual experience driving a Tesla. Most people feel it’s going to be a horrible experience that causes a lot of retraining but actually pretty much everybody that ends up driving a Tesla are very happy with the screen big advantage is that your car will always stay up-to-date have all the featuresthat the new Tesla have because of the software based interface.
@@bspencersf Not convinced that's true - i own one, several of my friends do (tech company, not a huge surprise) and most of us bitch about the terrible UI, even several years into ownership. Sure, I've learned where all the options are, but it's still a terrible flow to have to go into the car menu, then the lights menu, then press two buttons when you drive into a fog bank and need to be paying attention but there is no foglight button you can hit by feel. I realise they "fixed" this on the newer models by just deleting the fog lights. The passenger wants into the glove box they reach over to the drivers side, take away the nav system by opening the menu, then press another button. This is a worse flow. Yes, you can learn it. It's still bad. That's before you reach the things that only work on automatic setting but the automatic stuff doesn't really work reliably, like lights and wipers. Sure, they work 90+% of the time, but that's still a lot worse than normal wipers and lights that work 100% of the time.
@@bspencersf I have owned my Model Y for 3 years and loved it from day 1 hour 1. I do think Tesla could add a 2 minute video tutorial right on the screen to show newbies how to use the system, this would be great for rental agencies and maybe impatient hot heads like this TH-camr
Some achievements might include "Googled for instructions 25 times". "Found 10 non functioning charging stations" "Yelled what the fuck 50 times". Great video
I hate the trend to have every setting in a UI with a passion. It's unlawful to use your phone while driving because it's distracting (which is a good thing IMO), but searching for some stupid setting on your giant car tablet is absolutely fine...
Mate the last beep after the rant just got me laughing haha, I love how it went from a Tesla review video to humanity review haha. You have an amazing energy dude! I learned a lot of stuff from your vids and explanations of combustion engine things, they are very educating and informative!
F, even the glove box ? that is not cost cutting, I bet the plastic box with a plastic button release is way cheaper than a damn motor connected to a computer to open a damn glove box.
But they can sell u a motor in the future… ive had tons of cars. Never had a dash latch go bad, fiddly? Yeah a few. But bet that when that goes bad, ur going to the dealer. Im not against ev, can’t afford one anyway. But their implementation sucks.
It’s not that hard to understand. I own a Tesla and I don’t have to carry any keys anymore. Zero keys. If they do it the normal way then I will need a key for the glovebox. I probably open the glovebox once every 2 months. I prefer this way over having a metal key that I could potentially lose.
@@immortalized.1don't say plan obsolescence, because even 10 year teslas still have the glovebox working, and there is no hidden engineering that will make it stop. That's like saying motorized car windows is planned obsolescence. Just not true

I've watched many Tesla review videos and this one is by far the most insightful and also hilarious. You said so many of the things my mind knew were true but didn't know how to articulate. Thanks for the ongoing productions filled with thorough, soundly reasoned, and original thinking!
the idiotic idea to put everything on a screen is an idiotic idea that many manufacturers are following. if that lcd dies, you wont be able to do anything plus , how much will that cost? stupid idea. the controls need to be simple to avoid distracting the driver too much trying to find a stupid menu. the controls need to be reliable they feel the need to put every damn thing on a touch screen because that is the "future"
Because it is cheap for them and many car manufactures have their largest sales in Chine, where people believe that a car with buttons is a car of the past.
it's a gimmick, they think the customers want it, it saves them money on mechanical design linkages, what's not to like? :p Glad to see more manufacturers coming to their senses and putting buttons and knobs back in nowadays...
lol, that's what just happened to my vehicle. Luckily heating controls are normal dials that I can turn. It's a real showstopper if the demisters are on it.
Its the correct way. I rarely even look at the screen. Sometimes to know how fast i actually am. I do not need the RPMs, i do not need the oil pressure, i do not need to know where i am, there is a window to the outside world. If you do not like that please buy a VW. They will fer sure build you a VW Golf with stalks in 2100.
My daily is a 2007 Prius. Even a car of this vintage has a touch screen for some important functions. Those touch screens are getting pretty old now, and as far as I know nobody makes replacements. Eventually, the supply of good used screens is gonna run out. It's kinda sad to see a perfectly good car get junked on account of a touch screen, but that's the reality we're facing.
Love the rants lol. Did not expect the life lesson at the end. You are one of a kind, having a gf from Bosnia and knowing all the stories i can definitely relate and feel the deeper meaning. Love you, stay strong!
FYI: 1) Hazard button is top of rear view mirror 2) 3d animation is for Autopilot ADAS system. 3) You can make oversteer in park track mode in model 3 performance model 4) beeping is may be caused by your camer (low battery or battery overheating warning)

Tbh if they did not lie and try to force it down ppls necks and not act like it's the best thing since sliced bread .. then maybe ppl would have had a better reaction to it , but I really feel the way they try to force it , that's the main reason ppl don't like them .. that and they are not any better on the planet than a diesel truck ... I personally dispise ev cars but I'm not against them if it makes sence .. they have a purpose , but it is not to take over the automotive scene ... but alot of it is like u say bro it's ppls mentality toards change , but the change needs to be better 😅.. peace and love bro keep it rad stay safe
@@mastercricket7626 I understand. It's become this whole culture war type of thing. It's not that deep it's just a car. Evs are perfect for me and others and imperfect for others. Same could be said for other types of cars
@@mastercricket7626 It's not just that peoples mentality is against change. The 'complaints' against evs can generally be divided into two groups. On one hand you've got the people complaining about the lack of noise, lack of soul, charging infrastructure, range, touch screen controls and so on. Most of which is valid to a certain extent. If someone tows a lot long distance or just travels over 400 km and absolutely cannot stop for other than quick gas topups or piss breaks, evs really aren't for you. On the other hand however you've got what are basically just open questions designed to spread doubt. Like for example if an ev is even better than a diesel truck? How destructive is lithium mining? What happens to lithium batteries after they're done? All of these can be answered with some searching on google which proves that evs are much better for the environment compared to ice vehicles. Yet for some reason they just keep poping up in arguments. This isn't even the first time we've seen this. The same kind of doubt was spread about side effects of smoking. After the corporations couldn't deny the effects that smoking has on your lungs they started spreading doubt. I think the same thing is happening now. You can't outright deny that burning gas is bad for the environment and people around you so you spread doubt about if it's even worth switching to electric.
As an American, it is genuinely entertaining to see (who i would consider to be) a definitive knowledge on automobiles, in a Tesla for the first time. There are so many things that you know that I don’t about cars, and seeing something so familiar to me be alien to you is awe inspiring. Also, watching you go through the stages of grief as you adjust to an electric car is hilarious on its own, this might be the funniest episode I’ve ever seen.
I am a petrolhead and an EV enthusiast and I approve of this message :D Note on the annoying backseat driver stuff: as testing regimes like Euro NCAP evolve and include more of these driving assists, it's becoming impossible to make a car that scores 5 stars without it. It's annoying and distracting and things like the Lane Keep Assist (the thing that nudged you back to the center) is downright dangerous - my cheapy 2022 petrol car has it and I hate it. We can only hope that, as these technologies mature, they'll become more accurate and less intrusive.
I had to disable lane keep assist on my Mazda 3 2020. That system intervened in a roundabout and throw me off track,I barely had enough time to correct my trajectory. It’s been off since then.
I think all these things should be banned. The car will never know if you want to cross the lane or not, so it will always be intrusive. I think the car should only act as a last resource. But people should stop wanting electronic babysitters for everything.
Wow, this was like I was looking at the mirror - would say it the same word for word. And man, the conclusion should be played every morning on every TV station in the world as a wake-up (call) to humanity.
8:59 How to open the glovebox if the table is broken? "Oh, sorry mr. Policeman, I can't show you my documents, because the huge tablet is broken and this is the only way to open the glovebox, where my docs are".
I have two comments about this video: 1. The lack of buttons is not about cost cutting, is about planned obsolescence and about having just Tesla servicing your every tiny actuator. 2. Thanks in part to you, I am now (also) driving a Honda Hornet 2002. Fully analogue, 4 cylinders of beautiful howling carburetor engine, pure driving pleasure. Thank you for that.
glad you're visiting Portugal. Hope you're enjoying it. Don't forget to try out the good food (specially in the north regions) and a good "vinho tinto" to add some flavour to that dull car experience😄
this was a very funny video, the trials of getting into a new vehicle, i woulda loved to see this on the new model 3 with the stalkless design, yes indeed the learning curve is something else, that said after learning all the details of how different it is vs the old car you were driving, it becomes an enjoyable experience. that smile just all over his face when he punches it for the first time, total gold.
I suppose for an iPad with such a massive battery that it needs wheels to make it portable, the performance as a mode of transport isn’t too shabby really.
Oh. My. God! This guy is my doppelganger! Loved the review, loved the honesty, loved the passion, loved the life view. From now on when that inner rage starts boiling up I'll know my inner Bosnian is about to pay a visit. Thank you sir, just brilliant.
i have a tesla - its terrific but i just loved listening to this guy! it does take some getting used to but now when i get in other cars all the buttons now feel too busy haha. one point he makes which is really true - we lost the cars with character a long time before evs turned up and all the road cameras and policing for 'your safety' already squeezed all fun out of life in many spheres.
I agree with you about controls. Touch screens are hazardous and should never replace actual physical knobs, buttons etc which can be accessed by feel without taking eyes off the road.
I'm still astounded that the regulators are allowing these big screens in modern cars. Petrol or electric. As if it's not hard enough to keep people's minds on the task of driving.
Yep, I cringed when he started to look through menus to find something while having to look back on the road all the time. I guess thats why at the same time they are making them autonomous. So they can justify all these bad decisions in ergonomics.
That´s why modern cars need lane keep assists and lane centering assists and emergency brake assists and so on and so forth. Just imagine how many more accidents there would be if the cars wouldn´t have all that but be so terribly awkward to operate. But wait. This stuff also has to be activated and operated via menus and sub menus over this one stupid big screen. At least on some of those cars like this Tesla Model 3. Could be better if the buttons for adaptive cruise control and lane centering assist were on the steering wheel though, there are smarter manufacturers who actually did it that way so you can put these on in a safe and simple manner before messing with the big center screen.
That was hilaaarious mate 😄 Everything you talked about was super funny and interesting, you should definitely do more of these, if the rent cost isn't ridiculous of course. Even though I do like most of the things that you don't, like the screen and how it's the center of everything, I do understand and your point and your reactions and explaining was really funny. Amazing video, do more if it's possible 🥲
Great video. Just a tip for anyone who is apprehensive about using the UI on the tablet: Most controls are available through the voice interface. It works better than you might expect. Press the button on the right side of the steering wheel and tell the car what you want. "open trunk", "open glovebox" etc.
What if you don't speak english/have bad accent or just don't have voice control in your native language? Even if you do it takes at least 5s+ to say "turn on hazards" when you have to focus on driving in an emergency instead of 0.5s to push a big red button
I'll be sure to let my family with very heavy accents know that. I'm sure it will go fine. And I'm sure it understands sign language for my niece right? Because she can't speak, but I'm sure they thought of that.
First time in my life I couldn't find the hazards and I drove some very weird cars. It's a tiny non-glowing faint red triangle outside the field of vision here...even if you look at the ambient lighting you might not spot it if you're tall.
Watching you lose your mind over the UI was the best part of this video :D The achievements idea is genius though! Oh and try driving one of these through the chaos of a Southeast Asian city with motorcycles appearing out of nowhere and freaking out the system :D On the bright side, more and more manufacturers are finally getting the message and going back to buttons and knobs in newer models. Whether Tesla will actually ever do that... And your last part about division... that just resonates so hard :( Irrational hatred is such a drag on our society...
South America have the same chaos in some cities, just less than Southeast Asia. haha Underground Parking Lots will beep forever too. In reality these things don't have any utility besides disturbing you and impressing bad drivers so they buy it. For me, that beeps means "You'll crash, stupid human, looookkk outtt...." and i start fighting with my senses to find out what i'm doing wrong. 😂
Can I get a amen in here haha You are completely right. And to be honest im glad I drive a camaro 85 with soul and a daily Seat Exeo.I dont have money for new cars but even then i would buy a older one with a big engine because i want my car to have a personality.
A good vehicle interior design, as said is designed for human interaction. You should not have to take your eyes off the road to turn ac on/off, radio, heated seats etc... My opinion the user interface of the tesla is one of the worst interfaces I have ever seen.
I can do all that without taking my hands off the wheel and eyes off the road driving my Tesla. This guy has an awesome channel but consider this entertainment rather than a review
You speak out of my heart. The way with these bloody screens is 100% the wrong direction, it's idiotic and dangerous. How they are even allowed on the road is more than a joke. Cheers 👍💪✌
What’s wrong? Lights are automatic, wipers are automatic, climate is automatic. Why would you need to press tge buttons all the time while driving? On EVs you almost never need to touch brakes, because “one pedal driving”. So basically EV driving is as simple as steering wheel + one pedal. That’s it. There’s no need even to switch to high beam anymore because it’s automatic with adaptive pixels
@@alexeysamokhin9629 Your argument is "it's fine", not "it's better because of X and Y". Therefore you are simply just defending Tesla here, which is a corporation that wants you money, there's nothing noble about defending those.
"we're not sacrificing that much. we have already lost the sexy cars. These mechanical, purely mechanical things-- they are GONE" 😭 1000x FRUNK-master award. You are fantastic. I both felt sad and laughed during this review. It's a wide gamut of emotions to experience in a review about a car that, ironically - fails to evoke any. Kudos my friend, I feel you have captured how many of us feel about new cars.
The rage at the beeps, amazing... As someone who's considering getting one, I loved this video. There are a few things in the Model 3 that make me think twice about getting one: - No buttons, everything is through the damn screen - No dash or even a HUD - No stalks, now we get capacitive buttons in the steering wheel. Also, the gear selection is either in the screen or some capacitive buttons near the dome lights(where the hazards are) - No Android Auto - Have to rely on public charging
I drove an bmw years ago and had the same rage. All that beeps only disturbed me. I was changing lanes and that shit starts to beep because of a distant car i already saw, but it makes me feel like i'm a dumb guy that is about to crash into something i didn't saw... so i didn't changed to the other lane because i started to look where i was going to crash... the same happened into a parking lot where it beeps all the time because of the columns there... So i started to ignore that beeps and drove like a normal person. In other words, it does not have any utility besides disturbing the driver and impressing bad drivers so they buy it. hahaha...
EV's are for people with a garage / ability to charge from home. Public charging is a MESS, and it's stupidly expensive also, in the US the price at some of the chargers is almost equivalent to filling up with gas.. I did hear there is / are at least one aftermarket dash screen you can get for the M3, someone told me but I didn't confirm... It's my main gripe with the car too.
Check for Tesla superchargers in your area - they are awesome and worry-free. Make sure you have charging at home or at your office - I almost never use any other chargers, it's not just worth it. The screen is luckily smooth and easy to understand, in general. And you can use voice commands if you don't like it + some things are available on the steering wheel scroll wheels. Also, the new model 3 is amazing - no better car for the price.
I have to admit that I have the same feelings as you in this video. Just drove an EV for the first time and I plan to get one now for my commute to work. With that said I still do want my weekend car to be an old, pre 95, gas car that does not try in anyway to stop you from doing something that is completely stupid. Great video and I great channel. Keep going.
Cars designed to guarantee "distracted driver" accidents? Elon Musk (in)famously said something like "I know more about manufacturing than anyone on the planet." Even if true, clearly neither he nor his car company has any idea what "ergonomics" are. Zero information in line with driver's sight? The only controls require turning your attention (your eyes) away from the road? I'd love to find out how many accidents are caused by Tesla drivers playing with the menus...
As a huge engine head, and lover of manual-only cars from the 80s through the mid 2000s, I rented a 2023 Tesla Model 3 Performance this February for a week while on a work trip. I agree with you completely. Driving experience with power, quiet and comfortable cruising, etc is a ton of fun, albeit soulless (hate to use it too but you're right). The interface however, completely unforgivable. Turn signals are unmarked buttons on the steering wheel. Everything is buried in menus. You cant even adjust the DIRECTION the AC vents are pointing unless you go through the screen. Mine had other issues as well. In certain areas, the car would automatically reduce my cruise control SET speed from 75mph (120km/h) down to 40mph (60km/h) while on the highway with a speed limit of 75mph. It would do this without warning and slam on the brakes all by itself. Another major issue was the adaptive cruise on country roads. If a car decides to cross your path to get to an adjacent road 100m away from you, the Tesla would beep and slam on the brakes by itself. Changing the collision warning settings did not help. The interface and electronic nannies are completely unforgivably bad, and are often outright dangerous.
I loved the ranting. You are old fashion like myself, suffering in the modern age. Your issues of charging apps and the tablet are shared by many many people. Your driving in the twisty roads was fantastic to watch! So entertaining. I feel like you approached it with your mind already made up. But you ended up giving it an honest, open minded appraisal. Thanks for a great video.
Great to see you’ve been in my area enjoying some of the nice roads of Portugal, despite in that tablet on wheels… Id happy to show you some other roads if you come back! Love your videos since day 1. Keep it up my man
This is incredible... just pure, gorgeous stream-of-consciousness, a baring of a human soul's frustration and joy and dismay. I think there was a car in here somewhere, too.
I think the most terrifying trend of modern society is the way that big companies treat customers. They treat them like complete idiots. What we will get if everything and everyone treat everyone like idiots? We'll get a society full of idiots, unable to think, to act, to do anything. This is scary.
You actually nailed it at 9:20 ... its cost cutting, and its exactly how you get a car that performs like a BMW M3 for under $40k. You take a day or even a week to change the settings and learn toddler level screen controls and it stops being a thing, and suddenly still left with no more petty issues in a car that goes 0-60 in under 5s & gets $ equivalent of about 200 miles per gallon... for under $40k.
I’m 33 years old, I’m a car mechanic and I really try to get in touch with the new age and stay positive about it. Glove box opens only by touch menu?! This is a good reason to fill fuel in a Tesla, but not for driving but to burn the damn thing up… Is it so hard to make these essential functions work without a ridiculous attempt for reinventing the wheel? You had to google how to open the frunk when half of the screen on the car has the "open" button in front of your eyes? This pretty much summarizes this review, and the bias a lot of these Tesla haters have. They make a big deal out of something simple, that they dumb themselves down and aren't able to figure out something basic. This explains why he couldn't even think to look up to find the hazard button lol. What's funny is he decided to google how to open the frunk that is right in front of his eyes, but he doesn't google how to find the hazards, which would have taken him 30 seconds. I think this teaches an important lesson; the general population isn't sophisticated nor smart enough to operate the newest technology. Any little about of figuring out they have to do and they break down. Something to keep in mind as these new, not so perfect AI systems begin to emerge in our era.
Never words were more true. I didn't know many of the details you just showed us, but now I'm even more convinced that these are frustrating cars for frustrated people

It's especially dumb considering that you're literally just doing all this to... engage a relay. A billion lines of code across multiple platforms, just to pay to flip a switch and push voltage into your battery. Damn things could be coin operated if the designers had any real consideration for end users.

That’s a very objective review. Credit was given where deserved, and I feel the criticisms were spot on. As a toy, ICE cars can’t be beat; they just offer more in terms of sensory stimulation… from the sound, the gear shifts, to the smell of gas. But as a tool, EVs are far superior by way of their silence, smoothness, and response. What’s more, waking up everyday to a fully charged car is a game changer. I also spend a lot of time in my car as a mobile office; being able to have the heat or AC on (even in enclosed spaces) for hours on end without an engine running in the background is priceless. What I can put a price on however, is fuel. It used to cost me $400/month to fill the tank twice in an X5 40i… I now pay $40/month in electricity for a Model Y Performance. Your results may vary, but for reference, I live where gas costs around $5/gal and electricity is about $0.11/kWh.
Very entertaining review of the Model 3. I’d be very curious to see what you think of the Performance version of the Model 3. When set in track mode, all of the electronic nannys are banished and you have the ability to adjust the proportion of power delivery between the front and rear motors among many more parameters. You’ll be producing prodigious numbers of doughnuts before you know it!😂 It can be made into a very capable drift monster if so desired. The hazard switch is overhead between the interior lights behind the rear view mirror. As for charging, yes the public system sucks with all its cards, accounts and flaky unstable apps. The Tesla Supercharging network however is superb. Back in to a stall, plug in, and you’re charging. That’s it….. really, thats it.
idk why 28:53 is so interesting "i am not like that and therefore i disliked and fear that which is different from me", guess that way of thinking makes us belong to a certain group easier, (common enemy is a great way to connect), make people more on the same motivation, and thus increase our chance of survival as a group. now that i think of it i notice this happens everywhere, in soccer supporters, music artists and so on.
Thank you so much for this video. I was beginning to think I was the only one left who hated these "built in back seat drivers". Seems like every year the disconnect between drivers and the road gets wider and wider.
It is definitely easier to fear things you don't know much about. Its the lazy way to be. I'm glad that you took the time to at least give it a shot! I don't drive an EV yet, I may never drive an EV, but I can see the advantages. Most of what I hear about EV's IRL comes from people who have never driven one. The more you learn about things, even things you don't like, the less you fear them. Its easy to empathize with combustion owners, its also easy to empathize with EV owners.
Last time I sat in a Tesla, it was actually quite nice. The owner offered to let me take it for a spin sometime. I've always been curious to see if I like an EV. Don't know if I'd ever want to own one... but as ling as it's got 4 wheels and goes, it's a car.
Man, I understand you SO MUCH!!!!! This is why I drive a 1st series Giulia 2.0. And I'm angry that it's only with 8 ZF automatic gearbox and not available manual. But at least it drives very fine. They have to explain me why there are fines for driving with a phone in the hand, but it's all good when you have a ginormous tablet that you need to look every other km to do everything!
I already have several different apps on my phone for different parking areas of the city, and that really pisses me off. Having several MORE apps for different charging stations would just add to it. Plus its another thing if you leave your phone at home. Theres no drive-off policy for EV charging.
In a world where there’s a (sometimes “necessary”) app for everything; being able to have as little apps and intrusions as possible is an under rated yet so simplistic, thing to have. Every time I need a new app or account for something I want to groan aloud lol
There’s is if you use Tesla and their chargers. You just go to a closest supercharger, plug in, wait 25 minutes and drive away. You DO NOT need a phone with you.
I am petrolhead aswell. I have Nissan 200sx S14 which I have rebuilt all by myself. I use it for weekend drives, some slalom and some drifting to have fun and enjoy what an old ICE car could offer. I also have a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance as a daily. I also don't agree with people, who wants to pick sides. Probably, it is like if You pick a side and You think that you have picked a better side - your opponents in the opposite side are losing something or are just stupid, and that, for some reason, makes a person think that he is better in that way. Well it is what I could agree on. I think You can have both of both worlds. There is no car, that can beat my TM3P for my taste as a daily. I have a solar panels on a roof, each day I have as much energy to drive as I want to. And I stopped counting the money for daily driving. In the end of the month it costs me 10€-20€ to drive as much as I need. For all the trips I take. It is super reliable, it is predictable, it doesn't need effort at all to control it. All the technology that has got into it is amazing. And for the price of it there is no other car that can be just as fast from the start (3.3 secs/100km/h), as comfy and plenty of space and as cheap to drive. There's nothing in the ICE world for it. But. Yes. It lacks some things that we had before and lost. I used to say, that best cars were made up until 2005 or so. After that computers took over and ruined much fun from the cars. Not all, but generally. And this is why keeping the "analog" which only need + from the battery and some fuel - is still really fun and enjoyable. Both cars for me are amazing for what they are. They are just made for different purposes. Sure I can turn on Track mode in my Tesla and start drifting. But no, it would not be fun. I have my S14 for that. And yes, I could try daily drive my S14, but ammount of "back pain", sweat and just the effort needed to drive it... Tesla is for that. ----------------- Also few points about the video. You can control windshield wipers with the button on the left and scroll wheel to change it's speed. That beeping You have heard over and over again - I think that it rental company device on the top? My car haven't made on in two years I have it (not talking about warning signals (those three loud BEEP BEEP BEEP)). Also, the minimalism of it, it is love it or hate it. I like it, it saves not only on cost, but on weight, which makes Tesla more efficient. And lot of things can be changed via voice command instead of trying to search via touch screen. I think I had more points in mind, but these are the ones I remember after one hour after watching. :D
You get used to the screen and I actually miss it when I get into my other car, which is a very modem German car. When you put it in reverse the quality and resolution is night and day. I'm surprised you didn't comment on the stereo system I was blown away by the sound quality. Everyone should copy the sound bar at the front. It's simply amazing. Destroys the super expensive bummeister option in my other car.
man i'm so glad you went on a mountain run in the tesla. 99% of tesla videos just show drag racing. a lot of people don't fully understand how good the handling is with all the weight being so low in the car. it handles WAY better than you'd expect from essentially a car competing with a honda civic or corolla
Yeah with about 1/2 the vehicles weight being soooo low it must be surprisingly nimble. One would expect it to handle like a truck if you simply looked at weight.
It's $15,000 more expensive than a Honda Civic? Put it this way, I was just in the market for a car, and the civic was an option, the model 3 was not, even if I had wanted it.
@@aggonzalezdc with 15000 worth of gas, you drive a long way. That's why EV are not for everyone and can't replace like for like combustion engine cars.
@@jmbpinto73 yep. If I had the money I'd LOVE to have a little EV to get groceries with. But I don't have the luxury of owning an EV. Which is why the legislation in places like CA where they want no more ICE cars after 2030? So basically, only rich people can buy cars in California now? I mean, I even OWN A HOME, I'm way better off than a lot of Americans, and even I can't charge an EV at home! if I could afford one at all. It's crazy to me. EVs are good, do not get me wrong (even if I think Tesla is a bit shite, but that's not a problem with EVs), but you can't force them on everyone!
Love, Love this video. "Frunk Master" . "please stop beeping". Have you ever seen the "Beverly Hillbillies"? I kind of got a "Beverly Hillbillies" vibe from time to time. I hope you don't find that insulting. It's definitely not meant to be. I should just say "fish out of water" vibe. I've always wanted to try a Tesla, but never have. I just want to feel the power. The things you like, I'd like. The things you dislike are all the things I despise about today's tech. You're very open-minded, very honest, very objective. Love your channel!
How deeply I understand your feelings bro! There's nothing like mechanical, classical touch... I also prefer the warm of touch instead of cold screen. :)
Brilliant commentary. The philosophical musings betray an apparent urgent desire for honesty. I trust this review perhaps more than any other review of a car. Wow.
TLDR: I genuinely enjoyed the driving experience but disliked the user interface.

How was your experience figuring out where was hidden the odometer? I hate working on those cars as a mechanic...
You should try the lexus rz
Having driven a Model 3 for four years, I usually interact with the car through voice commands, rather than the screen.

@@jjamespacbell "Go rent a rental car from a maker you are not familiar with"
I had this 15 years ago (I think it was a VW Passat).

I prefer this way over having a metal key that I could potentially lose.

the idiotic idea to put everything on a screen is an idiotic idea that many manufacturers are following. if that lcd dies, you wont be able to do anything plus , how much will that cost? stupid idea. the controls need to be simple to avoid distracting the driver too much trying to find a stupid menu. the controls need to be reliable they feel the need to put every damn thing on a touch screen because that is the "future"

It's a real showstopper if the demisters are on it.
Its the correct way. I rarely even look at the screen. Sometimes to know how fast i actually am. I do not need the RPMs, i do not need the oil pressure, i do not need to know where i am, there is a window to the outside world.

@@mastercricket7626 change isn't always good for a lot of people
@@mastercricket7626 It's not just that peoples mentality is against change.
I am a petrolhead and an EV enthusiast and I approve of this message :D
Note on the annoying backseat driver stuff: as testing regimes like Euro NCAP evolve and include more of these driving assists, it's becoming impossible to make a car that scores 5 stars without it.

Especially when using a phone even for a call is a no-no (which is good btw, but I would love to see a ban on these big screens).

Great video. Just a tip for anyone who is apprehensive about using the UI on the tablet: Most controls are available through the voice interface. It works better than you might expect. Exactly what I thought, even I've never seen an electric car in front of me.
Because she can't speak, but I'm sure they thought of that.

so much philosophical thought in the car world. thanks for sharing an unbias reaction to this divicive piece of machinery .
Brilliant commentary at the end. Loved to see and hear this side of you.
I couldn’t have said or expressed it better. If more people were as analytical as you, this world would far far better!! Thx
Watching you lose your mind over the UI was the best part of this video :D The achievements idea is genius though!
Oh and try driving one of these through the chaos of a Southeast Asian city with motorcycles appearing out of nowhere and freaking out the system :D
On the bright side, more and more manufacturers are finally getting the message and going back to buttons and knobs in newer models. Whether Tesla will actually ever do that...
And your last part about division... that just resonates so hard :( Irrational hatred is such a drag on our society...
South America have the same chaos in some cities, just less than Southeast Asia. haha
Underground Parking Lots will beep forever too.
That was so much fun to watch. You're a great host. I've never driven an ev, and I felt your pain.
Most things are automatic, and you can use voice control for others.
@@alexeysamokhin9629 then why was he having such a hard time??
There are a few things in the Model 3 that make me think twice about getting one:
- No buttons, everything is through the damn screen
- No dash or even a HUD
- No stalks, now we get capacitive buttons in the steering wheel. Also, the gear selection is either in the screen or some capacitive buttons near the dome lights(where the hazards are)
- No Android Auto
- Have to rely on public charging
I drove an bmw years ago and had the same rage. All that beeps only disturbed me. I was changing lanes and that shit starts to beep because of a distant car i already saw, but it makes me feel like i'm a dumb guy that is about to crash into something i didn't saw... so i didn't changed to the other lane because i started to look where i was going to crash... the same happened into a parking lot where it beeps all the time because of the columns there...
So i started to ignore that beeps and drove like a normal person. In other words, it does not have any utility besides disturbing the driver and impressing bad drivers so they buy it.
hahaha...
@toxicr you can change the sensitivity of those warning systems or turn them off entirely. That's not the main point
@@volvo09 I've already looked at some offerings and they integrate with the car software but it's not the same has having it from factory
This is my favourite video of your's by far, and that's saying something!
I hardly ever comment,,, but I love you man.. I wish more people have your mentality

Thank you for making this video. As a motorcyclist I now know to emergency brake everytime I see a Tesla as the driver is guaranteed to be fiddling with their tablet control interface and not observing their surroundings!!!

Yep this stuff only works if you can work it they made a car way to complex

It's especially dumb considering that you're literally just doing all this to... engage a relay. A billion lines of code across multiple platforms, just to pay to flip a switch and push voltage into your battery. Damn things could be coin operated if the designers had any real consideration for end users.

I can buy gas, I can go shopping, I can travel by bus - ALL using my contactless debit card. Why not pay to charge an EV that way? Its all about harvesting your personal data.
You nailed it. One step away from just sitting in the back seat.
Your observations about the obsessive data collection without the need is spot on and needs to be said more often

Also few points about the video.
