ICE vs EV - IN-DEPTH comparison of BATTERY ELECTRIC and INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE vehicles

    In this video we're doing something we haven't done on the d4a channel before, and that is to talk about battery electric vehicles, and we're starting this topic BIG, with a giant 30+ minute video that goes deep into the differences between ICE (internal combustion engine) cars and EV (Electric Vehicles) aka BEV (Battery electric vehicles). We're going to talk about performance, torque, weight, transmissions, maintenance, running costs as well as the future aspects for car enthusiasts. We're even saying a few words about the prejudice that seems to exist in the two opposed camps behind EVs and ICE cars.
    But before we can get EVs and ICE vehicles clashing head to head we first must get a bit more familiar with EVs. Interestingly enough, to do that we can rely on the familiar concepts behind components in ICE vehicles, namely the battery and the starter motor, which is an electric motor we'll be using to better understand the electric motor driving EVs. If we contrast the starter motor to the EV motor we can see that the EV motor is a three phase induction motor (or permanent magnet or IPM synRM motor in newer Tesla cars, or the Porsche Taycan, or even some entry-level EVs) which needs three phase alternating current AC to run. In contrast to this the starter motor is a DC motor with brushes and commutators that must make direct physical contact to operate. The AC motor in EVs doesn't need any direct physical contact. It relies on a rotating magnetic field generated by three phase AC in the motor's stator to drive the rotor. This means no brushes or commutators and it also means the AC motor is a lot more rugged, reliable, maintenance free and has a longer life expectancy compared to DC motors. But most importantly for the sake of our comparison AC motors have rotation in their core.
    The engine on the other hand needs to convert reciprocation into rotation. This is the arduous task of the connecting rods and crankshaft and where a lot of the weight, complexity, vibration and losses of the ICE come from. That being said, modern engine really do vibrate very little and configurations like the inline 6 or the v12 are essentially vibration free. A common misconception that occurs here is that ICE is heavier when compared to EVs. Yes, an ICE electric motor by itself weighs less than a fully assembled engine, but to run the engine only needs fuel, fuel tank and transmission (100-250kg), compared to this an electric motor need batteries (500kg on the Tesla model S for example). On top of this batteries make DC power which isn't suitable of an AC motor, so EVs also need an inverter to convert DC into AC and to vary the speed of motor. This is why on average EVs are as a whole heavier than ICE vehicles. For example, the 2018 and newer BMW M5 weighs 1990 kg compared to the 2200 kg of the Tesla model S.
    Another interesting aspect that must be explored are the torque curves. The reason why electric cars can operate with just 1 gear in their transmission. The Tesla model S P100D for example has a max motor RPM of 18.000 rpm and makes usable torque for most of that rpm range. The BMW M5 does make 750 Nm of torque starting from only 1800 rpm, but it redlines at 7000 rpm which is why it needs multiple gears. With just 1 gear it would be redlining at 60mph. But the 1 gear thing is a compromise, you must choose between acceleration and top speed. This explains why Tesla cars are so fast from 0 - 100mph, but are outrun by equivalent ICE cars from 100 to 150 mph. Tesla chose to favor acceleration with their gear ratio. This is also why the Porsche Taycan is currently the only EV with a two speed transmission. To avoid the compromise between top speed and acceleration it has a second gear into which it automatically shifts at 60mph. The reason why it outruns the Tesla even if it has less power and is a bit heavier.
    What about running costs? Surely owning EVs is cheaper as there is less maintenance? Well EVs still have brakes, coolant pumps, transmission oil pumps, radiators and much more. They are definitely not maintenance free. The running costs vary across the globe and depend on electricity prices as well as the local taxation, registration and EV incentive policies in the country.
    So are battery electric vehicles the future? Your guess is as good as mine. Are they amazing? Definitely. Do they have ways to go? Yes, but that's a good thing.

      Just FYI tho, Solid State Batteries are quickly becoming a viable alternative, so batteries are most likely going to be lighter, around 200-250kg for an average car.

No one’s saying you should stay until the train is 10 seconds away.

      Yes and there is the chance the train won't stop before impacting the car potentially derailing the train and killing all onboard.
      Just because the engine wouldn't start and the driver thought it was more important to save themselves and let insurance cover the car.
      Yes a metro train likely won't derail impacting a standard car but it has happened.

    I really, really like your balanced, curiosity driven and engineering based approach to this subject. Thank you. I myself have worked with ICE:s all my career and would also describe myself as a petrolhead. I have 5 cars in my garage. HOWEVER, one is an EV and it's a car I really appreciate to drive. It works very well for most missions, and where it doesn't, I just pick one of the other cars. No big deal and there's is as you say no reason to cathegorically "pick sides" and start hating.
    Also, a subject you might want to cover: The ICE itself is not "the enemy", it's what we put in them... I think synthetic fuels presents a really interesting future and I hope development picks up dramatically. Again - thanks!

      I wish I didn't have to " hate " but my government and many governments outside of America are forcing citizens to pay for EV's that they don't want, don't own and don't want to fund, while they're pushing a purely political agenda against natural hydrocarbon/bio mass stored solar energy and shutting the door on any synthetic or bio mass fuels not recovered from the bio organic process of fossil fuels.
      In short, the resentment around the world for EV's is due to progressive socialist politics that demonize, price out, regulate out and ban all other corners of car culture.

      @@alpha-cf2oi shouldn't. They present the advancement of automotive engineering to scopes far beyond we could comprehend. Because of EVs we are already touching f-zero type of thing where you have a dynamic pitstop embedded in the asphalt that you only need to drive through it to recharge the car, and that to me as a car enthusiast and gamer is something i never thought of becoming a reality. EVs aren't the problem, preaching them in detriment of petrol cars is.

      Ev's are a tool the government they will use to currently devide us then control us.(freedom to move freely) Electricity is already going way up and being controlled.

      Yet he is so wrong about EVs. The batteries must NOT be replaced. He keeps saying this over and over on several videos. Yet the first gen Prius from the 90s proved the batteries lasted the lifetime of the car, and did not need swapping out. Our 10 years old Nissan Leaf still has 85% range left. And i have never ever changed a window wiper motor on any car i have owned. Why did he even bother to put those in the service on the electric. Nissan Leaf service manual says to change coolant after 15 years. Yes, 15. If you do it earlier, you must change it every year after that. Something to do with sealing and quality of coolant. You dont regularly change gear oil either. Service manual just says "inspection" every year. Things like this damage the credibility of the channel. Read up, and stop using Tesla in every comparison. Small EVs and crossovers also exist, and they are perfect for daily use while the family SUV bus is parked waiting for long weekend getaways. (Most families have two cars).

      @@Excepticus Thats just a conspiracy thought. I just told you how modern day batteries last without issues. Nissan Norway only replaced a couple batteries under warranty. The Nissan Leaf forums are pretty much empty of threads regards to people whining about faulty batteries, because they dont fail.

      @@retroMartin He is also talking about timing belt replacement for ICE engines and that also only happens once in the lifetime of an ICE car.
      He didn't talk negatively about the replacement of the battery nor its costs. He just mentioned it is a component that may need to be replaced sometimes.
      I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he talked about battery replacement because it might be something that happens after high power use of an electric car. I doubt that a formula E car's battery lasts as long as the one in a Tesla model S.

      @@retroMartin I also drove Nissan Leaf for few years. But my battery lost significant charge. That was the main problem Nissan Leaf - you can find many examples of older Nissan Leaf, some even with less than 30 miles range when fully charged. Now with Teslas, it's even worse as batteries often fail completely out of blue. Lithium ion battieries degrade and fail. That's fact of life. Replacing EV main battery is VERY expensive, often not economical at all for old EV. Not only that, electronics in EV is very complex, not really possible for DIY repair. I also owned Toyota Prius for few years - engine problem? No biggie, I fixed it myself, but if EV electronics break, then I am SOL. Meanwhile, I am cruising in my 30 year old ICE which I maintained 100% myself. It has same range as it did when it was brand new 30 years ago. I can even rebuild my engine as it's fairly simple. ICEs (with reliable, proven power train) are FAR more economical to operate over long time than any EV. Look no further than Irv Gordon's 3.2 million mile Volvo on original power train ( which outlasted the owner unfortunately) for how long ICEs can last. Irv Gordon's volvo is not an anomaly, as average ICE car in Cuba is 60 years old!!

      Couldn't agree more. Fantastic video. I would have to disagree slightly with the assertion that we have no clue what the future will bring. It seems clear that EVs are destined to make significant inroads into the auto market. Whether they will completely take over is another question.

    Privately I drive and A3 e-tron hybrid. The possibility to drive electric on the short distances I normally drive, is great. Low cost for the electricity here in Norway. On longer trips, it uses 4.5 liters/100km.
    The government has the wild idea that by 2025, we can't buy ICE anymore, only EV. That's stupid IMHO. We have winter here with down to -30 to -40°C and long stretches between towns. The amount of charging stations are pitiful at best, and using them costs more pr km than using petrol.
    In 2 years time, I'm getting an EV van for work. That's bonkers. Tests have shown that the Maxus e-Deliver 3 manages around 240km on battery, without interior and tools, with 10°C outside. I drive 100-150km each day at work. Spending 1 hour each day at a charger sounds like fun… Usually I fill up the tank one time pr week. That takes 3-4 minutes. 4 minutes of working time each week, or 5 hours each week. What's best for the company?
    If you have the ability to charge at home, and doing small trips, EV's are great. But for longer commutes and cold weather, diesel/petrol are the best.
    And just for giggles, this will be the result if all goes electric.

      Europe's other countries also seem to have fallen for this same trap: the delusion that banning petrol and Diesel vehicles would actually work out in the slightest. Hopefully this will spur some serious research into bringing back the Wankel engine or some other kind of ultra-compact pistonless rotary engine. Or biofuels. If there's a major breakthrough in something like pyrolysis-derived fuels (fuels produced through pyrolysis of waste such as garbage and sewage), then I guess they'll finally wake up.

      @@electric7487 I live in rural Northern Ireland, and the British government has decided it wants to ban all new ICE sales in 2030. There isn't a charger within 40 miles of my home currently and very few new ones are being built outside Belfast. The only EV charger I have seen in person was broken. In case you aren't aware, NI is the worst off province of the UK, with next to no economy beyond farming, and even that has been faltering over the last few years. I think most people here will just continue to fix up the old busted up ICE motors running diesel marked for agricultural use only (AKA "red diesel"). Hopefully this does backfire completely on the government, since we have a rich heritage of motorsport and modified cars, and prohibiting the purchase of new ones will help to fan these embers into flames.

      agreed brother. I think the "hybrid" route is truly the best answer. especially here in the US. LONG EXPANSES at this point necessitate a longer ranged solution. I. the future I'm sure batteries can do it, but if they don't change how that electricity is produced there's almost no point to go all electric for the sake of a cars pollution.

    I fell into the car culture rabbit hole only about a year ago, but I've become practically consumed by it since. I'm considering formal training to pursue the interest but in the meantime, your videos have been the greatest source of comprehensive and well-explained information I've found on the subject to date.

    there are some main reasons why I'm not fully on the ev's side.
    1. no sound
    2. way way way less gears
    3. the motor

    A German here: normal Gas price is here around 1,35- 1,40€(E5) in NorthrhineWestfailure(westgermany). so it´s about 1,65$. And a KWh is also a bit chaper. 0,25€/0,3$. But if you wait a bit, the prices will be correct. Next CO² tax is comming. no doubt.
    Additional: I think booth propulsion methods have their own field to work. ICE for long range and heavy duty. EV for the city and short range.

      Yeah I think Plug-in Hybrids are the best option right now. Even mild hybrids are a nice step.

    As an electronic pro and EV lover i sadly admit that end of this video really explains it all. WE ARE I.C.E driven and since that technology matured so much, it is really usable and reliable. EV era is in front of us and battery technology needs to improve much further to be usable for offroad/high range / power demands. Patience, everything has its own pace .

    Now a few comments on the content, mainly regarding maintenance:
    1. Brakes on EVs are not an important consumable. If you use the regen-braking properly, you will fiddle more with rusty rotors than with worn out ones (and brake pads too).
    2. There is a huge investment in EV maintenance post-warranty. Only a few places can service EV-specific parts and also when you have to exchange the battery, you will likely need to pay as much as the (used) car costs itself. Hopefully this will change, but at the moment that's how it is.
    3. Corrosion on EVs can be a real b*tch. On an ICE vehicle seeing rust can be annoying, but it will usually last decades before it becomes dangerous. On EVs however, corrosion can leave you stranded (rusty terminal) or even lead to a fire hazard (rust can cause water ingress into electrical parts). This needs to be inspected periodically and can be costly even just for a check-up (lots of parts need to be removed and then put back on). Let's not forget this also requires specialist labour.

      Corrosion can cause catastrophic in EV. It can reduce the insulation resistance between conductor and insulation. That would make a leak current path or even short circuit path which is going to decay the life of battery and other electronics components such as Inverter over time, some failure in motor control system or the worst case it would give you the explosion. So I agree that this has to be inspected periodically. All that materials of the EV car must be seriously reinforced to prevent the corrosion more than ICE car. That is the one reason why EV is a little bit expensive too.

      Doesn't seem like battery swapping will ever be a thing.
      Ev batteries are much much longer then expected and basicly last the lifetime of the car.
      Until cars are actually built to last battery's will not be an issue other then premature failure, which is usually falls under warrenty . Engine failure rarely is the main reason an ice car gets scrapped, modern engines actually do outlast many car they are fitted to.

      ​​@@baronvonlimbourgh1716 Well the battery won't last until the car die if we use like the motor need 100kW and we make batteries pack with a total power of 120kWh then after 5 years you need to expect your batteries will “die” or only got less than 70% of its capacity when we first buy it.The battery life isn't only depending on the quality, it's also depend on how much you discharge it in one time.

      Tesla batteries do over 200 thousand miles and still have over 80% capacity and can be repurposed after that. And early hyundais seem capable of the same thing.
      Things will only get even better over time.
      And why would you even want a 120kwh battery pack. Completely inefficient.

    As impressive as EVs can be, the thing that bothers me about them is they dont make any sound. A lot of interesting ICE cars have rhythmic intake and exhaust notes, anything from an V2, I3, I4, I5, I6, V8, V10, V12 etc can all sound incredible in their dozens of unique ways depending in brand, size, fuel type, they provide different tones at different RPM while at different throttle points which offers an emotional response like listening to music, this is especially noticeable when even more connected to the car with a manual transmission. Of course EVs have no sound compatible to an ICE engine and never will (unless fake) and of course no multi gear manual gearboxes. This is a major difference between the two types of propulsion. I can also appreciate some people love the near silent operation and performance an EV can provide but for me it's all about the right sound a car can make.

    Nice. Actually I am in a similar position as you. My working life has been improving emission for Construction use. It has been a dramatic improvement both emissions and performance from the late 90's to now.
    Now all the engines are getting replaced by Battery solutions, or so it is stated. I also am open to this and encourage change for the better. But, does not mean all the good work done before is wasted, rather it gives a benchmark to beat.

    I used to start my old 1950 Ford Prefect with a crank handle when the battery was flat.My dad who was a mechanic said it was better to put my thumb over the handle not under otherwise I might break my thumb on the recoil.It had vacuum operated windscreen wipers, cable brakes,no water pump and flathead engine.Things have come a long way since then.

    *Great video, as always. What puzzles me about EVs, is how they're going to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels when for the most part, we still have to produce the electricity by burning fossil fuels. Solar and wind aren't always dependable, nor are they easily scalable as more people switch to EVs. Our present electrical grid is woefully inadequate to deliver the increased demand required to charge a world highly populated with power-hungry batteries, plus, every time you convert energy from one form to another, some of it is lost in the form of heat due to the inefficiency of the conversion process.*
    *Is it more efficient to burn fuel to make electricity, then transmit that energy through miles of wiring and transformers to the end user, then convert it into a lower voltage DC current, then convert it again into stored chemical energy to charge batteries, that then convert it back into 3-phase electricity to make the wheels go 'round? I don't know the answer to that, and I haven't run into any Greenies who know either... they mostly think EVs produce "zero pollution". Then there's the overlooked fact that a freshly-charged battery starts slowing draining away that charge even as the car sits parked in your garage... probably a relatively negligible issue, until you multiply it by millions of new cars.*

    I'm super exited to see the future of electric hot rods. Massive copper busses, advanced frequency drives, so much potential for awesomeness. I love ICE stuff too but like you said after over 100 years we have the hot rod formula pretty refined, whereas electric is wide open for development and ideas. Maximum output will probably be highly dependent on cooling too

    You're a great presenter. You make things easy to understand,. That is a gift. I've been driving for forty-five years. Everything from Cortinas to Lamborghinis. They all have a purpose good and bad. While EV will take over mass transportation while governments allow us to operate our own vehicles. Till then, listen to the experts and make your own decisions. If you want fun, consider Ice vehicles that you can play with and impress your friends and family. If you're more practical and just need a point to point transporter, we'll there are all kinds of EVs to meet your needs. For me, at seventy, I think a Jaguar xk150 would suit my ego, oh wait I had a Jaguar, almost broke me with repairs. How about I just keep driving my Genesis 3.8 with two hundred sixty thousand miles on the poor thing.

    Great video, D4A! Very level-headed and informative. I bought a Tesla Model 3 last year, and enjoy it a LOT! ... as a vehicle. Best features are 1) it's Red, 2) it's uncommon, and 3) it's fun. I charge at home mostly, so it is nice to drive past the gas stations with their rapidly-rising signboards. Not quite so nice when far from a Supercharger station ... Charge Anxiety is a real thing. Btw, my "other" vehicle is a new Triumph Bonneville, and I am devoted to making it create "proper" ICE sounds. Good on you from Japan!

    Another thing is that liquid fuel engines have a much longer range than EV. EV batteries drain really fast when you run the heat in one, whereas ICEs are just bleeding essentially a waste product of ICE engines. Going outside the engines of these vehicles, EVs are not better for the environment in many places because fossil fuels are used to create power for the electric cars. Even in places where "environmentally friendly" power is generated (i.e. wind, and solar power) the energy infrastructure is hardly adequate as it is, adding a ton of EVs on top of that would be detrimental to those places. Mining and refining lithium for EV batteries is very bad for the environment. As for technological advancement, electric motors and batteries have been around longer than internal combustion has, so I don't believe that will come as far as internal combustion engines have. I just don't think EVs will ever be better for the average person than internal combustion, and internal combustion surely will never be phased out entirely.

    Great comparison at the beginning! In the motorcycle world, where reverse gears are rare, it wasn't unheard-of for people to mod in a "reverse gear" by changing the starter clutch/ratchet assembly to able to spin both ways and having a reverse polarity switch for the starter. Although generally it was only really old and simple bikes that would actually work.

      Honda Goldwings has this from the factory, but I don't recall when they started it. It may have been when they went to 6 cylinders, but I wouldn't doubt that other manufacturers of touring bikes also have followed Honda's lead.

    Thanks a lot for this in depth analysis, I think this is by far the best comparison I've seen so far... yes, I'm a car enthusiast, word that I think defines better what I am compared to "petrolhead", and I'm thrilled to see what the EV revolution is going to give us in the foreseeable future... I also had 3 test drives in Tesla and Nissan EVs and I've been amazed by the drivability and real usability of those vehicles... I'm pretty sure my next all day drive will be an electric car, even though I still love the sound of a well tuned ICE... there's no Plan B, we have to look after our planet as best as we can...

    You hit it on the head. When EVs are actually viable, I'm all in, but right now they're not. They're commuter cars in big cities and that's it. Give me a 10 minute recharge to full battery and enough charging stations to make their range viable and I'll have one. One thing not covered is environmental impact. Somehow everyone thinks the EV is better by default because it doesn't burn oil, but those batteries are still charged by burning coal and there is a big environmental impact from battery manufacture, so they are not nearly as 'green' as everyone would like us to believe.

      While almost everything do have environmental impact. Solar is definitely lower that of fissile fuels . Don’t even get me on the lives lost in the name of oil? Millions. We can go back and forth as anyone can find someone who will support their point of view. Solar panels do generate way less pollutants than fossil fuels . It’s just depends on how the bi products get treated. Some cut corners and others don’t as in any manufacture process. But if handled responsibly solar is way way less pollutant than coal. A lot of articles point out the environmental cons of the manufacturing process but can you show me one that’s compares the two?

    There's room for both technologies. I daily / travel in a Model S (cheap to drive, comfortable, clean), but I tool around the rest of my time in a modded WRX because it's a hobby, and the funnest car I've ever had. Having both a EV and ICE car is really the best of both worlds.

    One thing that will keep ICE around as long as people can drive themselves: motorcycles. Nobody wants a silent, heavy, jerky, expensive motorcycle when a petrol one is already very efficient and economical.

    I love both internal combustion engines (especially high performance ones), and also electric vehicles. In fact, I once converted an old VW beetle I had into an electric car for around town errands. They both have their advantages and disadvantages!

    ev motors are at the same development point in time as the steam engine was back in the later 1800's to the early 1900's hugely power full and potentially extremely dangerous only because of the batteries. The steam engine used the same principal as todays ev motors just with less rpm, that is they only used 1 gear transmissions or direct drive. I think once tesla and other ev car manufactures start getting over just using 1 or 2 gear transmissions and saying " but the torque the torque" and using 5-8 gears to do the work and limit the power outputs and rpms to increase the potential range of the ev cars the driving enthusiasm will come to driving them like proper sports cars and then they can start working on the really important part , the charging system.

      if having 8 gears would help EVs achieve better range they would've already implemented that. AC motors don't have the friction losses of ICE engines with the increasing RPMs. The only reason to have more than 1-2 gears in EVs is acceleration in higher speeds which is stupid given that the aerodynamic drag will cause a battery drain very very fast.

    Forgetting about gear changes and rpm can actually let you focus better on throttle control and tire grip in many motorsports. I would gladly watch electric vehicle technology develop and pave a way for my phone battery to last a week, for household electric items to be cheaper and more eco-friendly, as I'm sure this won't kill off petrol and diesel driven motorsports for at least 3 more decades. Generally it's not a bad thing at all, exept that manufacturing batteries can be a dirty process, which I don't have a lot of knowledge on.

    I really like the unbiased nature of the video. While I don't want to begrudge the EV fans anything, there is one thing I am extremely worried about, especially here in Europe. I don't want to lose the options, if all the people of the world want to drive EVs, so be it, but I will be a petrolhead until my last dying breath and don't want ICE cars to be completely banned.

    What I want is the gasoline motor and the boost button on the steering wheel that runs electric motor giving power for short time when needed.

      You won't even need a button at the steering wheel. Just buy a hybrid vehicle. Many of these boost with integrated starters for example.

    If all should drive ev there is not enough meterials to built all the battery. And the metal used in battery is digged out by Kids.

    I will bet you, and I will win :D My Giulia, with automatic transmission can not engage any gear unless motor is started. So no moving on starter possible ;) (And I think it would be true for all modern ZF transmissions )

      Same with all automatic transmissions probably. Even older cars don't start unless the transmission is at park.

    Re: Maintenance. . . I drove my 1995 Z28 300,000 km without having to change 6-speed transmission or differential lube . . as for brakes. . . you’ve ignored the reduced brake usage because of regeneration.
    But, summing things up, I watched a video of a competent fellow re-building a Porsch 6-cylinder engine. . . I thought, holy shit. . . It’s got a hundred times as many parts as my old Ford Flathead.
    There are lots of people who fully understand “how things work”. The proportion of those who can actually explain how things work is much lower. Thank you for your work; I’m very happy that You Tube suggested your channel.

    Really excellent video. This has helped me really wrap my head around whether or not - if an EV is right for me at this point in time, and that answer is no. Even with the unbelievable rise in fuel cost, where I live, and how I live, the ICE vehicle is right for me and likely will be for a very long time. Your video helped me not to make a knee/jerk unnecessarily, and expensive jump into an EV I would likely regret buying. Thank you! I very much enjoy ALL of your videos, and respect the work that goes into them.

    As an auto enthusiast, I'm looking forward to picking up a Tesla in the next year. But I'll keep my Miata, to compliment the Tesla's virtues. It is not an either/or situation, people!
    People who think (maybe "think" is too generous) this is something for which they must "pick a side" are- at best- naive.

      The Miata will eventually bore you and nostalgia will be its only appeal. It's slow and noisy, and your brain-road connection is far weaker than in a fully-mastered Tesla. Getting back in a muscle car now just feels like I'm torturing some metal. Lots of vibration and noise and very little g-force.
      Being able to hear the tires scrub around corners and sensing the limits of the car is so much more satisfying in an EV. I know you and many others will probably disagree, but let me know after a few years behind the wheel of a performance Tesla.

    well.
    im that type of petrol head that watches doug demuro while owning a corolla hybrid.
    given where i live and how i have to commute, a manual combustion car is just a awful experience.
    i would love to drive a full ev but i have no convenient way of charging it.

      That's something a lot of people seem to miss when talking about EV's. Not everyone has a garage and can charge their car overnight, and having to sit around at a charging station for an hour or so can be a massive inconvenience. I Would love to get my hands on a Tesla, but I really have no place to charge it at home, and the nearest charging station is 30 miles away.

      @@Pulsarr1 It's even more ridiculous in my country, running an EV on power from public chargers costs you more than running a regular 2 litre diesel. Add less range, longer "fill up" time and other typical EV inconveniences and the whole point of owning an EV just gets lost in the sea of drawbacks.
