Euro NCAP January 2022 Press release www.euroncap.c...
Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

Extraordinary performance. The "fail" on the pedestrian test is another good reminder why "self driving" cars are still a pipe dream. I'm glad that NCAP keeps pushing the boundaries. One thing to keep in mind, it would be advisable to test the dual engine model and see if it makes a significant difference.

Too heavy of a car. Without the lightweight cars the environmental concerns are just empty words. Cheap cars are light and consume less energy to build and operate but the heavy ones make it unfeasible for them to be in a crash.

Euro NCAP should really be taking notes from IIHS and challenging auto makers to improve safety. I can almost guarantee that automakers are making safer cars for the US market because of IIHS testing, but they know there is no EU testing like that, so their factories for EU sold cars are built more structurally basic. Shame on EU for failing to progress and challenge like IIHS is always doing.
