  • Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
    - a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
    - a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
    - a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
    - a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated.
    A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
    Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.
    All details on the Euro NCAP Website:

    I like the additional airbag between the driver and the passenger.
    Looks like it has a lot of sense!
    1:32 - if that airbag wasn't present there their heads would collide quite hard.
    Looks like something new in car safety that makes sense.

      That's true. But the design of the center airbag differs between manufacturers. I prefer the design Volkswagen uses in the ID. Buzz for example (take a look at that crash test on the EURO NCAP channel). It has more volume and to me seems to be a bit more effective than this design here.

    Why have you reduced the test collision speeds?

  • @jemand8462
    @jemand8462 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    wtf?! why did you change the crash test from 64km/h, the mean speed of accidents, to 50 ?! How do you even make sure the weight of the "other car" is the same as the tested car like in the past?

      @aidan1585 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sorry to burst your bubble but they don't just take suggestions from people. mercedes have to send them cars to do the tests, usually 5 cars. So mercedes would be throwing away just over a million dollars on a crash test. If you search up 2022 Mercedes S-Class safety, you'll find some videos of the assistance systems, but not the car itself crashing

      @@ziemniaczexpr0 oh well, you're right. but my point still stands considering the car is approx. 210 thousand euro, times 5 = €1,050,000. That's a lot of money for a pretty rare car. And I understand that the S63 is one of the most expensive, and you can buy a new S350d for 109k (in Germany), but that's still an eye watering 545k when you consider that they'll need about 3-5 cars
