Artorias of the Abyss is my personal favorite From Software DLC(Granted I haven't played the other ones in a long time),I'm glad I finally get to talk about it! Hope you enjoy! Have a great day!
You hear about Artorias so many times throughout the game that when i found out the DLC was about him i was very sure we would meet him as a NPC or something towards the end of it all. I remember when i got to the arena and it turned out to be a boss fight against a mad Artorias so early onto the DLC I still had some sort of hope or expecation that I would meet the "real" Artorias at some point. And as i progressed and realized that was it and later on when told that the legend of Artorias was actually all you the player all along was so dawning. The fact the game managed to build this narrative and expectation, making me really feel surprised and scared about it all with such a limited ammount of dialogue and exposion is genius to me. Because if you look at it with a non player or fan perspective, like a person watching the game without much attention it won't seem like nothing out of the ordinary. But when you are playing immersed in such universe it reallt feels so grand.
Dude I struggled with that so much on my first go-around with the dlc when it came out. That felt like such a huge accomplishment, killing Loran Darkbeast in the cursed chalice dungeon in Bloodborne was my number one conquest in these games though. It took me 3 days of 6-8 hours a day trying before I finally beat it and the elation I felt from that has never been topped in my 40 years of existence😫🤌
The story to this was sooo heavy. This was one of my personally favorite DLCs I even convinced my girl to name our first daughter Dusk and she doesn’t know that it’s from a video game.
For my, artorias is the most perfect boss in dark souls franchise. Amazing lore, amazing and simple boss fight, amazing design, amazing dogo friend, amazing AI. I'm just said they removed Artorias lines in game, gives you way more depth. But I get it, doesn't make sense for him to be the only boss that speaks to you during the fight.
I definitely get how Artorias's dialogue could add to him but I also like what no dialogue is able to convey. His AI is truly incredible you're right. It feels like you are fighting another player.
For Kalameet I just cannot help but think that: for many years Kalameet and Gough were sort of neighbours existing in sort of uneasy peace, but then one day Gough suddenly gets up that shoots him. I almost imagine Kalameet's 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!" as he falls.
This is a very well made and interesting video. I hope more people get to see it. It's really well constructed and i feel satisfied after watching it, which doesn't happen with many videos. I hope you make it big soon.
Something that I always found strange in Dark Souls is how dead the world feels, not in the sense of civilization, but in the sense of nature. I couldn't believe there were animals like little birds, lizards, insects, spiders, etc, just living like they would normally. I know that in Dark Souls there are forests and plenty of plant life, but it didn't feel natural. Probably it was me who did not pay attention to the sound design of the base game, but with this video, I've come to realize that indeed there is life yet in Dark Souls' world, now I can imagine the the creatures roaming around living and doing their own stuff.
9:36 It's interesting to note. If it hadn't been cut. This would be the one and only time we would hear the voice of a Silver Knight of Gwyn other than their death screams. I like how they kept the weird echo effect they have which makes them so otherworldly. One of my favourite details of his fight is in fact how you can tell the pain and agony of his corruption through his howls. Silver Knights are all silent, disciplined and stoic, only ever breaking into howls at the moment of their death, when they dissolve into light. But Artorias, who should have been the bes of them, howls and wails at you like a rabid animal in pain. It's intimidating as f*ck during the fight and heartbreaking when you think about what the abyss is doing to him. With how Dark Souls frames Gwyn as a monster that ruined everything out of fear, it's easy to forget why he was afraid. Humans aren't the only species in the world of Dark Souls, there is no guarantee his people, his children, the beings of Light, would have survived an age of Dark. Light and dark are incompatible. One can't thrive where the other is present. Usually, the Darkness cannot stand against the light. It's strength is patience and it's ally time, for light is fleeting and the Dark immortal, but, by it's nature, the very presence of light banishes almost any darkness. Almost. Artorias, shows that most rare and terrifying, a shining light swallowed whole by an unfathomably deep darkness.
Not a wildlife expert, but I do work in vet medicine. That call is a bullfrog of some kind. They have a deep loud wrrrw wrrrw call that doesnt sound like a normal frog call. I love your dark souls content. Im currently going thru shadow of the erdtree blind so Im trying to look at older fromsoft stuff so I dont get spoiled. And dark souls has a very special place in my heart.

Thank you dearly. My legend may rest in peace. You take on from my mistake. Good luck destroying the Abyss. 👍 And don't you ever give up. Never go hollow.
Fuck I love dark souls 1 so much. It’s such a unique gem. Fromsofts other games are great don’t get me wrong but I will never love anything they make as much as ds1. Bloodborne is the closest and I think it’s because it’s the game that feels the closest to ds1 in tone and design, which makes sense given how close the 2 were in their development but I love dark souls 1 so much. I hope one day it gets a demons souls level remake. It’s so bittersweet because I’m glad ds1 exists but I’m so sad from will probably never make anything like it again. They clearly have narrowed their formula down to where they want it but I’d love to see them really experiment and make something weird and out there again where it’s clear that it’s just a singular vision being taken to its furthest point.
I think titles like Sekiro and AC6 show that FromSoft is still experimenting but I do understand with a game like Elden Ring it does feel like they've narrowed their design. I think they just got a little more precise but with Armored Core seeming to be back I think they are gonna be unafraid to get a little more out there with what they develop.
Cutting his dialogue was a smart move. Meanwhile, 75% of the bosses in ER are ranting to you about cringe obscure lore. I still love that game, but man that new DLC just emphasized all my issues with their design choices. Dark souls had something truly special about it. Something they’ve failed to fully capture again.
I’m definitely considering it but it would be quite the endeavor. After Dark Souls, I’m stuck between the next From Soft game I cover being AC6, DS2 or Sekiro. Elden Ring is definitely something that will be a long ways out.
I personally find Manus to be one of the least enjoyable fights in the game. I've beat him several times, and can usually win on my first few attempts now, but I'll never enjoy his magic oneshots or his combo. I like to play up close and personal with pretty much every boss, but if I try that with Manus then it's impossible to dodge his 5 hit combo if he uses it while I'm hugging him. Feels like too passive of a fight to me. 4/10 final boss in a 9/10 DLC.
I really want to subscribe cause I like the format, BUT I am currently watching The Sopranos and I cannot have anything remotely spoiler-like pop up. I will be back🫡

You nailed exactly how I feel about the way the game immerses you. It is definitely the most effective game I have played for that reason.
I rank acquiring the tail of Kalameet up there with my wedding day and the birth of my firstborn.

Thank you, I think you are correct!
2 months late. But it's definitely a frog of some sort.
I love how gough is blind and still hits a clip on kalameet
Gough is such a wonderful cinnamon soul, bet he somehow made syrup from the trees he's just that good.
I forgot to mention his funny little carvings but those are such a neat little feature. I love his hello message.
@@LavenderRex7705 Yeah he's quite the craftsman, gettin unanimated wood to say stuff, or maybe he's that 'magically' good at it, dunno.
If you kill him he drops his armour set too which honestly, why would you ever do that outside of a true 100% character
I enjoy how you can see Manus red glowing eyes within his boss arena right before you enter the fog gate.

I've read that Chester was a sneak peek into what Bloodborne would become. You can see it from how he dodges instead of rolls.
I'm once again thinking about that fan theory that Bloodborne takes place in a far-future Age of Dark
