Just saw Pat in Kent, Ohio. Still a great player (his voice sounds like he's 70.... Father time gets them all eventually). It was a great show. He's a three-piece now, so he didn't play this song. It's one of my Favorites. Go for what you know is one of my favorite albums of all time. He played some songs off a new album he's working on and they were really good.
Pat travers, Frank Marino mahogany rush, Randy hanson. Uli Jon Roth. All Beatles fans until Jimi Hendrix changed their lives . Randy hanson is Hendrix devotee from 70s ,still goin today. Everyone on this page already knows.
I worked for him in the late 80's. He is everything and more. Way underrated and overlooked. Go For What You Know Live is the standard for which live bands are measured. Pat and band set the bar...
And Mars is in my shitty option the best bass player there is, was. Mars never got the credit he deserved, Mars is known and widely respected by most pro bass players, but still. Mars was on a level he invented.. A one of a kind.
The Bowery in West Palm Beach... Wow! Many moons ago and a huge thank you! Stevie was my brother killed on his motorcycle @age 15. I love this tremendously...
I love rush but I never got to see them live I got to see the Pat Travers Band live right before Crash and Burn came out and the lineup was Tommy Aldridge on drums Cowling on bass and Pat Thrall... that lineup was the tightest band I've ever seen in concert and they put on the best show I was ever privileged to see, the musicianship was just incredible... I've seen Van Halen, Aerosmith,Ted, Boston, REO, Sammy, Sabbath,Journey, E.L.O.,etc. They opened for Foghat whom I'd already seen twice before. Foghat opened with Stoned Blue, I asked my girl if she minded if we split before the song was even over, and she just smiled and shook her head... Pat and P. I remember reading a guitar mag interview with some sidemen including Thrall, Vivian Campbell, and I think Dave Manniketti, and Brad Gillis, where I think I remember Thrall saying that it had something to do with Pat's huge ego. During Tommy's solo after about 10 or 12 minutes of beating on the set with the sticks he threw those out to the crowd played another 5 or so with his hands. I never got to see Palmer or Peart so... Dude was incredible...
I appreciate your post and agree with you completely. I had to pleasure to be on the sound crew for him in Philly in 2017 and he's 1 of the most down to earth people I've ever met and I appreciate your post
Tommy Aldridge and that lineup was, indeed, the best. Especially in concert ! Tight as fuck. Live Go for What You Know proves this specifically. Aldridge playing drums with his hands is damn sweet. And an obvious crowd pleaser.
I'm 57 and grew up in Orlando florida .and I to got to see PTB at least 4 or 5 times but just once with Thrall about the same time as you right after the "Go For What You Know" album and I have to agree they were as tight as humanly possible .but The The Blizzard Band was also extremely tight. But like you I've seen about every single group that came out of the late 70s and 80s .and in all honesty I'm gonna say Judus Priest was the tightest live band EVER .and also saw Aldridge with Pat Travers Gary Moore .Blizzard Of Oz and Whitesnake .dude was a beast and only drummer that was any better especially on a double base kit was Neil Pert .he was just from another planet .honesty he was SO ahead of every other drummer .but yeah Aldridge would be my second pick .
