Appreciate the after trip follow up. Had a couple small holes near the flange where the y pipe was welded together. My gas welding skills suck, thought I'd try this. The stuff is thin enough when mixed it will sag if applied too thick. Was trying to pack in where the pipes join, had to keep working it with the spreader until it started to set. FWIW.
I use the jb weld extreme heat on exhaust manifolds and it holds up well. I typically put a piece of thin forming metal over the patch and tighten with wire and it holds up well. Recommend it!
For that type of repair I'd use a small piece of metal window screen formed to the contours of the pipe's surface and apply the repair paste over the screen to achieve a stronger repair. The screen can be held in place with wire wrapped around the pipe to secure it in place while the repair paste is applied.
Just a heads up, apparently the high temp version is MUCH weaker than the regular version. (Doesn't matter for a patch job of course since it's not holding anything together).
ive used this as a temp fix on my cracked exhaust manifold until the new one arrived. months later, it's still holding. I'll be using the same for my resonator.
I just used this on my exhaust xing fingers it works mine was just a few pin holes on the main muffler box, but it threw all kinds of codes being a twin turbo charged truck
I bought some to fix a radiator with a small hole at the top of the radiator. I know the general area of the hold but not specifically where the hole is. Radiator only leaks when I drive. I was curious about the consistence and plan to use a toothbrush to apply. I had used another type of jd weld that was more like a putty... didn't stop the leak. You might have used some cheese cloth to assist with the application, especially over the hole. I was impressed and hope this stops the leak on my radiator.
I use the JB Weld HighHeat Epoxy Putty and I've used it on a hole in my exhaust like yours and now I'm trying it on a complete tear away of a joint where my exhaust manifold meets my catalytic converter pipe. Hopefully it works out. Just applied it today and letting it cure overnight and I will fire it up. Hopefully it gets rid of this annoying rattle at idle.
How is it holding up after a few months?? I had a bolt break off on me when I was putting on a catalytic converter. There is a small hole and I thought about using this to patch it up. Since it's up front you can't drill it out which sucks.
Used it on a 07 Kia Rio near the second cat convert and has lasted over 5 month. Use it all up since I found what I had left all harden up. Which I figured would happen.
As long as it doesn't take out the windshield of driver behind you when patch finally is shaken off, I guess it's a success..... After I've done my exhaust repair artwork.
Charles, I always thought that stuff got hard in the little can when it got hard on what you put it on. I guess it remains spreadable if you put the cap on the can. I suppose it dries with air, not a chemical reaction.
me too. then, I saw my buddy pull a small container from his garage fridge, remove a plastic plug he put on top & swirl it up for a Briggs & Stratton repair. it worked. I asked how long it had been there & he guessed a few weeks. I asked if keeping it in the fridge helped too (along with the plastic) & he said it, “helped to not lose it out here,” but didn’t know if low temp kept it from setting. he keeps super glue & epoxy in there too. he out-fishes me every time, so I have to believe in his methods.
Great video, currently restoring a BBQ so this is very informative. Must say the echo form your voice at the end made me laugh sounded like you was inside the exhaust. Keep making good content, you've earned a sub!
is it still good? Some guy working on the home depot page for this product keeps telling everyone that it's water based and shouldn't be used anywhere that gets wet. that's only before it's cured, right? Like, puddles or rain wouldn't mess up the hardened stuff?
I will be putting this jb weld to the ultimate test. Trying to jb weld a water cooling jackets for a 2 stroke rc boat on 2 weed eaters to make it "water cooled" for a twin engine inline scooter. I cut the air fins, and now it's time for the JB. You would think coolant flowing thru wouldn't cause the parts where jb is to get up to anywhere near the high temp rating.. only one way to find out
I had jb weld holding together the metal coolant fitting on my intake manifold for a year before I got rid of it. Probably the strongest part of the car.
better to do this than replace SS OEM pipes. I have a Lexus and Explorer, they both got holes where the exhaust shields are welded on. One guy was able to put some weld spatter and save the pipe. Holds great. He mentioned this product can be almost as good.
No need to spread it so wide, concentrate on more on and by the hole. Take a roll of aluminum foil and do 10 layers wrap it over the putty and then put 4 hose clamps around the foil and one of those clamps directly over the hole pushing the foil down holding in that putty when it dries.
Excellent explanation! Thanks for your video. I was looking for an explanatory video to apply this product, I'm going to repair a similar hole in the exhaust pipe of a 2010 Ford Escape. Gracias.
Thanks for the video, I have a old motercycle, it's a 1982 xj650 maxim, I'm trying to get it back to good condition because I love the bike but there is issues with parts scarcity. I have a small hold about the size of a penny I'd say on the muffler on the left side, I'm going to try this since it's on the bottom of the exhaust, technically I don't need to to be road legal but I want to for my own reasons
I had an 82 xj650 Seca, still had an 82 plate on it... got it running and had to sell because rubber boots to carb were over $350 bucks and weren't even oem.
Great content. I appreciate that you included the follow-up after your 2000-mile trip in the same video. The intro music could be lowered and minimized. I subscribed to you for content that help me decide how to do my DIY repairs (and help me decide *if* I can do them on my own), not for intro music.
You missed a chance. When you were in Florida you should have had someone pull you out from under the truck, they the video shows a big alligator tail..
for little holes like that it should work good and its far enough away from the real heat.. NEXTTIME clean the pipe better before applying!! use a steel brush
Hold on! Why didn't the remainimg J-B Weld In the container that you used for the second coat cure in the jar while the amount you used set up? Makes no sense. Did you have a second jar?
@@dab-pre-ss-ionaustin1986 that should do it. maybe not a permanant fix but get u by for a while. in my experience manifolds and flexis dont hold up to repairs too well for the long run
Be mindful that at the manifold your dealing with what you might consider exhaust plasma plus the back pressure from a catalytic converter which will generate higher temperatures and pressures than the product is designed for. An organic paste is not going to hold up for long in those conditions and neither are most epoxies going to hold up where even a gas or arc welded repair will often fail. One does have to be realistic in their expectations despite them listing manifolds as a potential use on the package. Best!
I must say that was the fastest damn trip to Florida I've ever seen. And that alone makes me wanna try this method! Thanks Man! LOOOOL

Also, what do you mean by thin forming metal? thx.

If I had to guess I'd say your a drywall mud man with that nifty little tip😂
Like that advice!! That's what I will do with the screen. Thank you
Right on! Thanks for sharing, now I feel good about this
I did this right after replacing the igniter with your other video. It’s perfect now! Thank you 😊
what truck?
Put a piece of screen over the hole after you apply a light coat and then cover it with JB and it will hold better.
Hi, do you mean like a wire mesh? Can a mesh handle the heat if the crack is in the exhaust manifold?
Yes
Excellent video! Going to try it on a small pinhole I found on my very low mileage car's muffler. Thanks for posting!
Thanks, I have used regular JB weld to repair a cracked head on an engine. I didn't even know there was a high temp JB weld.
Just a heads up, apparently the high temp version is MUCH weaker than the regular version. (Doesn't matter for a patch job of course since it's not holding anything together).

How did it turn out?
Hi, how is your exhaust manifold doing today?
Did it work?
You should do the whole tailpipe.
😅
I'm a little short on cash and my wife has a loose tooth, do you think this stuff might work to cement it more firmly in place?
😂
If it stops her talking for four hours, go for it 😊😊

How is it holding up after a few months?? I had a bolt break off on me when I was putting on a catalytic converter. There is a small hole and I thought about using this to patch it up. Since it's up front you can't drill it out which sucks.
So once its opened and mixed you have to use it all at once Im assuming
Thank you for the video I will try it.
Used it on a 07 Kia Rio near the second cat convert and has lasted over 5 month. Use it all up since I found what I had left all harden up. Which I figured would happen.
I have same problem. Hole is near the muffler hanger. I'll give it a try. Thanks . Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving
Any luck near the hanger
It has been about 3 years since you did the JB Weld repair. How long did it hold up? Is it still ok?
Good repair. But in maine whole pipe got to be replaced or will not pass state inspection. No patch or splice on exhaust and brake line
As long as it doesn't take out the windshield of driver behind you when patch finally is shaken off, I guess it's a success.....

Its completely water proof when dried. It says specifically that you can use it to repair holes in exhaust.

How long did you let it dry before you drove the truck? Thanks
How’d it hold up for you over time ?

Will this work on a small crack in an exhaust manifold?
People are saying if it comes in contact with water it falls apart. Is it holding up on your exhaust even if it gets wet from rain covered roads etc?
Unfortunately, I sold the truck 6 months ago so cannot comment on it further, however, it was still holding strong at the time of sale!
Interesting Video, I think it would have worked better if you placed a small plate over the hole. Just my opinion. Enjoyed watching though. (UK)

Did the rust in the pitted area have much effect on the adhesion for this type of application?
Yes, should have sanded a bit more and wiped off the area more clean before application
Did u make an update???
