    Besides the fact that a complete seal was not achieved by applying the paste...the original reason the muffler cracked then broke completely in two pieces was because the muffler/exhaust system IS NOT properly secured...when you slam the car door and the whole system shakes and moves back and forth is my proof...this system will violently shake itself to pieces again...this bandaid fix will fail...most likely within the first trip....

    To do a repair like that I got a exhaust pipe adapter and fit it inside the resonator (the part where the pipe broke off), and using an exhaust pipe expander, expanded it out so it was expanded against the inner pipe in the resonator. This effectively replaced the pipe end that broke off the resonator, and allowed me to attach the rest of the exhaust to this new 'stem'. I also tack welded the expanded pipe into the resonator from the inside of the pipe, purposely blowing through the pipe to make sure there was some bonding, but I don't think that was needed. To that end I have never had much luck with the exhaust sealant as it seems to crumble over time.

    I still see a leak. Cheap and easy fix I did on mine... Steel wool double layered, held in place with furnace tape. (Furnace tape is only to hold the steel wool, otherwise it wouldn't last a couple of hours on the exhaust). Then layer aluminum sheeting over the steel wool using furnace tape to hold the sheeting in place so you can add a clamp or two. Works great and lasts a long time. Aluminum sheeting may need 2 - 4 layers depending on the hole.

(I've spent countless hours under my cars, over the years, using only jackstands and it can be a huge hassle.) I wouldn't trust the longevity of this repair either. Seems like a cheap and temporary fix at best. I personally wouldn't waste my time and money on such a repair, but i do understand that sometimes you have to do the best that you can with what you've got and with what you can afford.

    I do Hillbilly repairs too! But my car is 17 y/o and it is G-6 Detroit car. SALT!!!!!! I get two tall boy beer cans cut the ends sleeve it over the damaged parts and 3 hose clamps. It will get me 6 months and quiets it down enough to avoid JOHNNY LAW ! Hell I even then hand it with a drill hole and DOG CHAIN to lower the pressure. Taking it to my shade tree mechanic to evaluate the motor and transmission. If he says the motor still ok. I spend the 300 bucks and get a new exhaust via a license dealer. 19 moths left on my wifes payment book on her 2018 Buick Encore. Then it is my turn. I never had two car payments at once. Been very lucky. ( Once, my 1990 ford ranger motor let go at 369K with ORGINAL clutch on the night of my wifes second complete payment book. Send the payoff check 4 hours before! Original Ford Escape x'ed out via DRUNK ASSHAT!!! Wife ok. ) I might be out of luck this time!

    I did a temporary 'bodge' fix like this but used an old bake bean can cut along its length and jubilee clipped on at each end to join a break in my exhaust, I used the exhaust bandage under the can and plenty of high melting point exhaust seal cement between the pipe and bandage and between the bandage and can!
    The result was a strong leak free repair that lasted until my next MOT, the mechanic just laughed at my repair and failed it on that, so had to get a new exhaust anyway! 😳😲⚠️😁

    • @Officialjaleb
      @Officialjaleb ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How much did that run you?

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Officialjaleb It didn't cost much, it was a few years ago now, I seem to remember it was about £4 for a kit, Holts Gum Gum bandage / tape and it came with a tube of cement.
      The bake bean can was free, out of the bin and I already had a couple of old jubilee clips that I just reused.
      The kit was basically useless on it's own, it was only meant to be a temporary repair anyway.
      But the bake bean can helped to reinforce it all and keep the bandage from coming undone!
      Once it all heated up it sealed my exhaust leak up good but my MOT tester was not impressed! ⚠️😳😁
      Cheaper than a new back box and fitting, which I eventually had to do anyway to pass the MOT.

      @Chase Williams Yeah my repair was solid and gas tight but my MOT tester wasn't impressed at all⚠️😊
      The bean can just strengthened the whole joint and kept the exhaust bandage sealed around the break, the jubilee clips did their thing perfectly.
      I dare say it would have lasted years but it was only intended as a temporary bodge repair until I got a new backbox.

    • @rogerborg

      Kick him in the spuds, if it's secure and gas tight, it should pass. I've just had mine sail through with a bean tin bodge, they actually talked me _out_ of replacing the section.
