I will be at POCONO SPEEDWAY this weekend Aug 4th and 5th for some drifting so come by and say hello and maybe even come for a ride along!!!
I worked hard to make this fix as simple and cheap as possible so anyone can do this at home! If I can cut a hole in my exhaust the size of a playing card, you can fix your small leak!
    Here is what I used:
    Exhaust Putty: amzn.to/2vaDye2
    Exhaust Tape: amzn.to/2MakvqN
    Exhaust Clamp: amzn.to/2n4X9b7
    Sandpaper (100 grit): amzn.to/2KfXwsw
    Shop Vac: amzn.to/2AySXdc
    Electric Leaf Blower: amzn.to/2n5nOoc

I got my truck quoted for upper and lower ball joints, brakes, a new water pump, and front wheel bearings, the shop quoted me roughly 3300 dollars and I was able to source parts and do it myself for less than $700. That JB weld extreme heat saved my ass a week ago. I bought a car Brooklyn and I need to drive in 20 miles north to my job to work on it but i hadn't registered the car yet and i need to get to work on it asap. The car had a huge crack in the headers so i put that stuff on and left it overnight. Came back the next day it and it works perfectly so slapped on some plates i had, my photoshopped registration and inspection and drove that across the Brooklyn Bridge, up the FDR, thru the Bronx, and up into Connecticut. If that stuff failed then my ass would be in jail now. Now I recommend that stuff to everybody!!

0422 code and cracks in all 3 manifold pipes. Used a shop vac to pull extremeheat into each crack. Cured 48 hrs then used vacuum and second coat to plug any missed areas. Cured 48 hours. On first 2 mile drive, the epoxy puffed out in areas going from smooth finish to bubbly surface, but no cracks. Drove on highway a few days later 15 miles and passed emissions. Will definitely change the manifold soon, but not until the epoxy cracks. Thanks Chris Fix! Used wire brush and 150 grit to prep, and 90% ipa to clean before epoxy application.

    • @AJGvideos
      @AJGvideos ปีที่แล้ว +3

1 week later: Some hairline cracks have appeared now when the engine cools down. When the car runs, they seal up. The hardened epoxy is likely expanding and contracting with temp, but so far it is working to suppress the leak.

Many said it was a lifter, but it only made that noise when I accelerated. I did the vacuum cleaner test with soapy water and bubbles were coming up from all over the manifold. I used the same putty in jar as you had. It did not cure all the way after 2 hours and used the heat gun as you suggested.

Just a note that the link in the description for the putty is to High Heat JB weld instead of the Extreme Heat JB weld that Chris uses in the video. The top label part is cut off in the video for product licensing, I'm sure but you can see in the packaging that the continuous temp for the Extreme Heat that he uses is up to 2400* F instead of 450* F that the High heat variety withstands. Get the good stuff people. Chris, you may want to update that link! Thanks for the great video. This will likely save me about $3000 in lieu of replacing driver/passenger exhaust manifolds in a 2000 100series Toyota Landcruiser. Thanks!!

The only bad detail. Is that traditional exhaust holes due to rust. Are NEVER on beautifully straight pipe sections. It's rather on highly twisted sections most times with perpendicular surfaces. :-(
When a section like this develop a rust hole the rest of the exhaust is long gone into the exhaust heaven. LOL :-)

SO embarrassing. Going to cut the flange off and fix it with a pipe, using your methods to make sure all the rust is safe enough from holes

  • @UberStarFkr

My uncle taught me to take cans and cut the ends off then down the side and wrap it over the hole in the exhaust pipe. Usually layering it with at least 3 cans then two clamps to hold it all in place.
Of course it's a temporary fix until the proper repair can be done but did beat listening to a loud exhaust while saving cash.

I used aluminum tape for refrigeration for years, it works perfectly if you wire brush the area good, wipe clean with alcohol, then apply a few tight layers. Use a hard rounded object to make sure the tape is perfectly flattened. Once you take one trip, the repair area will "bake" in. It lasts a long time.

Great video Chris just want to add another tip if anyone is struggling with the putty when I use the vacuum cleaner the putty would suck right through the hole where the leak is so what I did was use some gauze square ones and applied the putty over the gauze it worked perfectly like a charm with the vacuum cleaner give that a go if anyone is having trouble applying the putty

You may want to remind people to clean out the vacuum before you reverse flow. LOL

Great video, brother! It's awesome that you showed us 3 different videos showing us potential fixes.
Side note: The video quality and cinematography over the years have been greatly improved, and it's noticable. Great content... Please keep it up. Your videos have really helped.
Double side note: I think it's pretty awesome that you actually put a significant hole in your own perfectly good exhaust, just for this video. Props... That's dedication at it's finest!

As always, thank you, not just for the theory but for the confidence. It matters for people who have never done it, because it looks very complicated, but you make it look simpler and understandable.

Best video on TH-cam for exhaust just one tip for the clump. Put some filler around the hole, then put the clamp on afterwards, put some filler around the rim of the clamp, and it will make an even stronger seal.
