Hi there Nell! I found you on Google! My mom gave us a money tree last June for our anniversary, and it came time for repotting. I did that today, but since it's my first money tree, I wanted to make sure I did it right. I'm up in Canada and just used some regular soil, but it seems like a pretty happy little tree to me! My pachira developed root rot, so I did a radical propogation (I cut the trunk an inch above where the healthy plant tissue met the necrotic tissue) and placed the trunk into a cup of water. I plan to bonsai it once the roots have grown in.

Also I have a bigger money tree and it got fungus gnats . It was driving me crazy ! I repotted it and they were still flying around . Well I tried the apple cider vinegar and soap mix ... that did not help at all. I didn’t want to water my money tree again since I had already repotted him and I could tell how stressed he was . So I took a chance and did the hydrogen peroxide treatment and it worked !! It killed all the gnats. At first I thought it didn’t work because there was some flying around for a week or 2 . But I also added a layer of sand and pebbles on top of the sand so the gnats could no longer enter the soil . So I’m down to 4 trunks on my 4 foot money tree .

I’m in north Florida and I kept my money tree for about a year on the patio and it had no issues. It started getting cold so I wanted to bring it inside and at the same time I transplanted it into a bigger pot, but now I’m loosing the older leaves. The plant is about 4-5 feet tall. The fresh leaves seem to be doing fine, it’s just dripping the bottom ones. I think it’s a double shock from bringing inside and repotting. Any suggestions on how I can help it deal with stress? The plant has sentimental value more than anything…..
    thank you

Hello. I should have watched this video before I re-potted my plant. Now I'm nervous. This tree is very important to me as it was my son's. He passed away 8 years ago. :( I treasure this plant. My plant was about to tip over as well. My tree is probably 4 ft tall. It has grown 3 feet since I got it. It is an indoor plant. I re-potted it into a much much larger pot in October so I hope and pray it survives. Thank you for your video.

Can you please help me with mine. I made the mistake of repotting it in general potting soil for houseplants. The overall health has been okay over the past half a year. I just have to be careful with watering it , but it just makes me so anxious knowing I can easily get root rot bc of the type of soil I used. Some leaves have browning and some are shriveled or curly. So I get really confused if it’s overwatering or underwatering. Should I repot it again using your mixture? The last time I repotted it was a month ago. Bc I just wanted to give it some new soil. But hadn’t seen this vid to better advice me on the soil mixture.

How often should I water my money tree?

  • @Kurtlane
    @Kurtlane 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

You need to remove the black plastic near the base soon, or it will eat into the tree.
Also, it's not used in bonsai a lot. It has large leaves and is not appropriate. It also has all sorts of other difficulties, such as tending to grow up no matter how many times you prune it. A few people are trying to make bonsai out of it, but it's not easy. I will try too, I think it will work in groups of five or more.
You could've confused it with Schefflera arboricola (Dwarf umbrella tree), which is used in bonsai a lot.

I just subscribed, love your channel! Appreciate if you can make a follow up video on how to properly care (water/fertilise) a money tree. Thank you so much.

I've had my money tree for about 5 years and its losing all its leaves. Has been for a long time and now it looks pretty bare. The leaves grow large and then turn yellow / brown starting from the tip and then fall off. Judging by the number of leaves it has left, I don't think it will make it through the next winter. Any idea what the issue is?

Im having that issue with my new money tree, I’m thinking I need to repot it as maybe the soil is no good. And give it fertilizer food.

Do I have to keep the ties on the plant?

I prefer not to. The plant grows and will likely be choked by the ties

You don't mention anything about the tape. Should it be removed when repotting? Thanks

My brother has a very sad money tree and I've been tasked with rehabbing it, so this video was very helpful!

Thank you for this . I had a problem with this plant I think I watered it too much ( Oregon is my state) I poured water onto the trunks . After that I noticed the trunks got soft. I tried repotting it and used hydrogen peroxide / water mix to clean the roots to help stop root rot , but it did not help . I believe I found a solution.. ice cubes . And mist spray the leaves and only every few weeks. Depending where you live and weather . I’m in Oregon so I only mist spray every week . And one 1 -2 ice cube on top soil (not touching trunk) depending the size of the money tree . Really this plant doesn’t need to be watered much . Winter time can go 1 month without water ......

So were you able to save your plant or did you have to start over with a new one? Mine has root rot :(

I'm in Oregon and my money tree is going gangbusters. I water it whenever the pot feels light, as in it must be on the dry side. Sometimes I just pour water into the pot from above and other times I thoroughly water it from the bottom. Also, I typically use room temperature water, or if straight from the faucet, I tray to have it be luke warm. And btw, it's never seen direct sun, it hides right behind closed blinds in an east-facing window. I've had it at least 3 years and it's probably tripled in size since.

@@dkrusee is your money tree deep into the pot, in the middle, or closer to the top?
