Propagating Money Tree in Water - Part 1

  • Money Tree is a tropical tree. It is a common houseplant. In the wild it can grow up to 18 meters tall. It needs a lot of sunlight but the leaves get sunburn very easily so morning sunlight is good for it. They are symbolically associated with good financial fortune and are typically seen in businesses, sometimes with red ribbons or other auspicious ornamentation attached. It is also used as a cure in appropriate areas to stimulate the flow of money. It can be propagated from its cuttings and the video shows how.

      @jwin6960 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn’t make it. The tree itself died as did all of the clipping we had put in the water. I don’t think the problem is with this video but more with the fact that we didn’t have an idea location to place them to give them the best chance. We ended up buying a new tree and potting it correctly. It’s doing fine so far and the cat now knows to find something else to climb. Thanks for asking!

I have one that is about 5 years old, maybe about 6 ft tall and it's leaves are beginning to turn yellow and falling off. What should I do? I was wondering if I could trim the bigger stalks for propogating or if I can only trim the stems.

    • @EasyPeasyGardening
      @EasyPeasyGardening  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes if the watering is inconsistent, it drops leaves. You can trim it down to a shorter height and propagate from those cuttings. Mine was about 5 feet tall, I trimmed it and now it's about 4 feet tall

    How do I braid my tree? When I bought it, it had 5 braids but they all died except one in the middle and it's growing beautifully. I'm about to prune it and grow the cuttings in water to get the roots started. I've been afraid to remove the dead braids because they seem to be holding the healthy part of the plant. So how do you suggest I proceed once the cuttings grow roots so I can braid them?

    • @EasyPeasyGardening
      @EasyPeasyGardening  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah don't remove the dead braids. For the fresh plants, put at least 4 plants in one planter. Once they grow up to 3 feet tall, you can remove the bottom leaves and braid them

      Easy Peasy Gardening I do have new healthy leaves that have come out of the live stalk. Should I just leave them alone? The dried stalks are somewhat soft at the base. Is that okay for the healthy stalk?

      @@rowenaparrish2427 see if they have fungus or other pests. Otherwise leave it as it is.

    Thanks for your info! My sister gave me her money tree plant and looks like it needed help, but not sure what to do. Looks like she let it grew it too tall and the branches is weeping. Also, the base trunk was gotten unbraided, What should I do? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      Maybe transplant it in a bigger planter. You could prune it in spring and plant the cuttings separately

    Do you need to change the water?

  • @dorothytelevision4276
    @dorothytelevision4276 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I did exactly what you said but my plants did not grow any roots only root rot and died.. do you add anything to the water? how often do you change the water?

    • @EasyPeasyGardening
      @EasyPeasyGardening  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't add anything to the water. I change water every 2 to 3 days. Try growing from a cutting, that survives better. Do it in spring time

    On the original plant, did you re-trim the spots you pruned from so that the cut was closer to the next node? I've always wondered this about pruning. I hope my question makes sense.

    • @EasyPeasyGardening
      @EasyPeasyGardening  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so but it does make sense to trim off the bare end, although not too close

    Great video, thank you - can you tell me what kind of soil you use. I've purchased cactus soil to replant my tree - is that okay?
