    Appreciate your video. I received a money tree from a family member hoping i can save it. At a glance mine looks like i will only be able to save one stem out of the four total. I see a lot of soil mites crawling around on mine, i read they can be beneficial since they are eating the decaying leaves at the bottom i will probably try to control it neem oil. Thank you again for the video! Im also nervous as this is my second money tree. Though my 1st one was over 7 years ago i didn't know how to care for it and it eventually died from inappropriate drainage, wrong soil medium and inadequate indirect sunlight, im trying to keep my fingers crossed it will be different and better this time!

    Great idea to report! Just from experience you should wait at least a few weeks before you start pruning...plant will initially go into shock because of its new environment and adding pruning will further shock it unnecessarily.

    Money trees seem to be both ends of the scale, robust and delicate. I've never had a money tree that wouldn't grow back as long as there was some green in the stem and a leaf or two. At the same time I've seen them die from simply getting a cold draft for a day or so.

    Love these. It looks like it's got a fungus problem starting. When you get brown edges/rings with yellowing around the brown, it can mean a type of fungus is trying to set in. It's the time of year it spreads in my garden here in Florida and I usually control it all with neem oil, it's organic and safe to use. Good luck! Try and give it some bright light, repot it in some good soil medium and spray with some fungicide, like neem oil and you should be okay. Plants are very resilient and will shock you, the best of luck to you! How nice for you to try and save it! I love saving plants!! Be careful not to spread the disease around to your other plants and sterilize your scissors between each cut, when removing dead foilage so it doesn't spread to healthy growth. Let us know how it goes!

    I think one way to save this plant (not sure if your plant is still alive) is to take cuttings and try to root them. The bottom part of your plant seems to be rotten and dead, needs to be "amputated" before the rest of the plant picks up that "gangrene". I`ve dealt with exactly the same issue with this plant. I wish I did more research on rooting money tree plant, because I just cut it and stuck it into the soil, but it got moldy. Now I`m down to the last leaf - the whole plant is barely 2.5 inches tall, and I keep it in a little pot with water (plus a few drops of some plant food). Amazingly the plant refuses to die, I keep it in a small see-thru enclosure in an indirect light with a wet paper towel in to keep some humidity. And guess what, I can see some small root offshoots coming out now:)

      The rescue is doing great and is now back with its owner. I will be finally posting an update on it sometime next week. We were lucky that two of the trunks were still very firm when I went to repot it. It took a while for it to reroot and for new leaves to finally grow back tho...but happy to say I saved it. 😁

    I recently repotted my money tree and now there is some yellowing of the leaves. Was told maybe its over fertilized or overwatered. Should I check the roots or should I wait it out? No leaves are dropping but a stem with leaves that was already weak broke of on its own. Not sure what I should do

    • @GotPlants
      @GotPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm I guess if the condition doesn’t approve it doesn’t hurt to check the roots. If there is rot make sure you clean it up and repot in a well draining soil. The dead and decaying parts would attract pests if not taking care of. And it would also continue to kill your plant. Gluck.

      Everyone says Money tree needs bright indirect light but I have one that never gets any light and seems to be doing fine for over a year. My pot does not have drainage holes, but since this plant is supposed to be a swamp plant, I always thought it would be a bit resistant to overwatering. In Sumer I must have watered it once every 2 weeks. In winter I might do it every 6 weeks. But mine is in a bigger pot than the one in the video, which would require less frequent watering.

      Hey! I’ve had my little money tree plant for over a year now! It’s growing and getting tall and healthy! If yours is still alive try watering how it would be watered in its natural climate! Money trees are used to having a ton of rain at one time and then it getting super hot and the soil dries out. I let the soil in mine dry about 3-4 inches down from the surface before watering again. Money trees leaves get yellow with too much water! If your noticing yellowing it means too much water. If your noticing browning of leaves it could mean too much direct sunlight!

      It's best to have holes in your planters/pots. This will really help with drainage and help prevent root rot. My friend's plant rotted because it was sitting in water. If you can still save your plant... try removing all the dead part and repot it in a better planter with a good draining soil. Gluck!

    I’m so confuse by my money tree 😭 I’ve had mine for about a year and a half and two of the trunks have soften so I’m assuming I’m watering too much. But the leaves have recovered a lot from being slightly transparent and yellow (I made a mistake and left it in direct sunlight one day ) and two baby stems have rapidly sprung and grown. I might have to repot so I can help my tree lose the extra moister :(

    • @GotPlants
      @GotPlants  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes you might want to repot it. After caring for this money tree for almost 1/2 year I felt like it was always happier on the dryer side.

    I’ve got a little money tree, I think it’s got root-rot in one of the trunks, so I’m going to try and unbraid/detach the dead one and hopefully salvage the tree even though it won’t look quite as pretty anymore. I have a pot with good drainage, but I had it in potting soil so the soil itself was not draining properly. At least that’s what I suspect based on my research. My own fault for not doing better research when I first bought the plant :( I did research the plant, how much light and water it needs but I somehow totally missed reading about how important proper soil is :/
    When I try to separate the dead trunk and repot it, I’ll be repotting into succulent mix, which it will hopefully like better

    • @GotPlants
      @GotPlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t like a lot of the soils my plants come in. It either retains too much water or is infested with bugs. But yeah now you have it in a more well draining mix that would help a lot. Just make sure water it only when it’s needed. This money tree is prone to get root rot it seems...from what I see and from the stories I hear. Well Gluck and happy growing. 😁💚🌱

      If leaves are damaged or dead they can't be saved. Best to remove it to prevent pest and damage to plant. If the truck has some rot try to clean it up and re-root it. I was able to save this plant after I cleaned up the rot.

      Leaves and even new branches will grow back. Might not be in the same location tho. As long as the roots and stem is healthy it would grow. And of course with some leaves it would help it. I’ve grown a rubber tree (Ficus elastica) just a branch and now I have a tall plant. The key is just be patient. It does take some time. Also very important to not over water. Water only when dry. When you see that the pot many big hole... is for a reason. You are using the right soil, but it need to have a good drainage. And you are NOT letting drain by putting that filter. You can mist the leaves but not the trunk. You should research before you make a video. The poor plant is really trying to survive and you keep trying to kill it. And is not Chinese! Since is coming from central and South America. Just money tree is how is known. Unfortunately

  • @wdpp246

    Honestly, if someone was plant-sitting for me and they took the liberty of cutting my plant, especially the only parts that are surviving, I'd be pretty upset. It's pretty common in plant culture that you don't trim or cut someone else's plants. I know you're just trying to help but you'd just be better off buying them a new plant instead of cutting their poor plant who is trying to make it. If you leave the struggling plant without any good branches/leaves to soak up the sun, you're eventually going to kill it. Good luck!
