How We Provide For Ourselves On A Scottish Island - Life In A Tiny Cottage On The Isle Of Skye -Ep89

- Willie, Sarah and their dogs, Jack Spaniels & Nori, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
This week, the Skye Lifers are finally back out in Betty the Boat, after 7 weeks of terrible Scottish summer weather, and are hoping to catch something tasty for the table, back in their 200 year old cottage.
We also show you how we go about stocking up the cottage kitchen - not just with seafood, but with homegrown veggies and during a day of errands to the island's biggest town.
Thanks for watching & see you in the next video!

I recommend avoiding shop-bought mayonnaise because it usually contains seed oil, which is high in omega 6 and highly inflammatory. Your body stores it in your fat cells for later conversion to energy - except that it won't convert so you become fatter and less healthy. Make healthy mayonnaise with olive oil or avocado oil.
Hey guys. I'm sure this will be on your agenda but with the big storm coming this weekend would be great to see how you guys hunker down etc next week
So , from South Africa , all I have to say is that I loved your video . Mostly the prep of the lobster salad . I love it when videos show their meals .
Oh my goodness, your Nori and black eye incident happened to me as well. I bent down and a Great Dane’s head came up to bonk me good and hard. I had a black and blue shiner for a couple of weeks. The joy of having doggos!
One of the things I like about Scotland is how every little town has a Co-op. I have started supporting our local one here in England because they back our own farmers/producers, they are on the whole ethical & environmentally sound and donate/contribute to the local community. This is more than can be said for most supermarkets.
The Co-op Prices makes Harrods Look cheap.
All Co-op's are strategically placed where there is next to no competition. charge what they want.
Nobody gives me a Wagon Wheel when I go to the post office😪😪New subscriber having just found your channel, very enjoyable.
Lovely people you are. 😊
Another great video guys! You make our Sunday evening so enjoyable!!
Awesome couple living the dream ❤❤❤
Hi Pet. I came over your vids by accident and I'm really happy I did. Wor lass and me lived on a tiny Hebridean Island just south of you for 10 years and it was the best thing we ever did. (Erraid) just watching what you and your bloke are doing brought back so many memories of our time on Erraid. . out in the boat for the pots, growing all our own food, gathering in the seaweed for the gardens, helping the shepherd with the shearing and the Ceilidhs, oh god the Ceilidhs. Many's a time wor lass had to drag me away from the doo's on Iona. Anyway, I've taken up enough of your time now and I imagine you have lots to do. So power to your elbow and gan canny. Paul n Debs :)p.s. The minute I heard your engine I knew what it was. We had the same problem on some of our engines.
Cheers Paul! So glad you found our videos and you’re enjoying them! Geet canny pet 😜
Happy Sunday everyone ❤
I saw the picture in the background even though you were outside. Made me laugh. I like it when you go fishing and when you show us cooking what you have caught. I was frightened when the boat engine started playing up. Do stay safe you two. xxxx
Thanks so much!! We weren’t too worried as we knew the secondary engine could get us back, but very relieved to figure out what the issue was and how to fix it 😊👍
I love Nori’s tenacity. He just doesn’t take no for an answer. 😂
Another belter, loved the boat/fishing content, brought back a lot of fond memories. My husband and I ran a small lobster fishing boat with 100 lobster creels back in the 90s, then they brought in licences and a lot of the small boats packed it in.......us included. Had to get "proper" jobs which paid better but never gave the same buzz as pulling the creels. And laughed at Nori trying to pull the deaf lug trick when Sarah was telling him to get out the car, getting the messages would have taken twice the time if Nori had been involved 😂 Best wishes from Islay x
What no rain ! Last time I went jigging l caught a 20lb Cod but that was in a boat just outside the harbour at Dover. Great video as usual keep smiling Rich W Ely UK 🇬🇧
Enjoying the videos, especially the fishing and boat clips. I would like to suggest that when your driving the boat, that you clip the tether to your clothing or around your wrist, it doesn't work wrapped around the handrail. If you fell out it's bye bye Betty and Willy's swimming home.
Several weeks ago I went blackberries and elderberries picking & made jam and elderberries juice, I have donated to a pensioner lunch club and food donations centres near & friends and family.
Luv the dog smudge marks on the glass door. It's a never ending battle with pets. Haha
Haha yup!! 😅
Lovely as always. No advice from me. Lol. Cheers and take care 🙂
Thanks!
Thanks so much!!
We visited that coop in broadford every day while we were in Skye in the summer , for bread milk etc , it is expensive but it did the job for a week , stopping in elgol it was our closest supermarket . Loved the coffee bothy too .
Great vlog guys. Stay safe 🙏.
We also had a springer when i was growing up n had more than my fair share of shiners, bloody noses & boxed ears from unintentional but over-exuberant "Glesga-Kisses" ... very bouncy dogs w surprisingly resiliant skulls lol
Springers yes, but Labradors too. Playing with our Bogart as a pup we clunked heads so hard, we both staggered backwards. Then looked at each other while I saw ✨ (he probably did too). Slowly gathered our wits and headed inside, very quietly.
Nice guys❤❤❤❤, beautiful place😊👌🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks for another great vlog and sharing your Skye Life with me! I'd just say I really enjoy it when you do a cooking spot on the vlog! Hoping for some more in the future! Big hugs for the doggies and I hope the weather stays seasonal long enough for you to reap the veggie harvest and to get more fishing in. Sods Law the engine wouldn't perform as you wanted it too! Have a good week. 😀🤩 xxx
Another great video cheers folks.🥂🥂🍺🍺🍺👍
I used to cater. Stirring with a fork reduces splash. Now I want lobster salad.😋 Love you guys.
I thought you said don't take your puppy for a GIN.....I was thinking yep that's good advice 😂......foraging, not gin! 🙈
You guys make my week 🎉
Arrived in Skye, and can see the magic of the place with my own eyes. stunning ! Great video again guys. watching from our temporary Skye cottage 😛
We recognise that Robin..! Great to hear from you! Please say hi if you see us around the island. 🙂
@@livingtheskyelife drove past your vets today on route to cottage :)
@@livingtheskyelife OMGosh the weather so far has been insane. did a whale watch trip out of Portree and saw a humpback, killer whale, porpoise, white tailed eagle. red deer and loads of other stuff. LOVE IT!
Susan asked "Who do you call when the motor conks out" The answer is the "Conker man" he is really nuts. 😁 Ach! Nori's wee dunt wis a wee heid tap. Noo i've hud ma Skye Life fix. good tae go!~ All is well in South Carolina😊.
The question is? How many folks will get the double innuendo of 'Conker' man.?😄
I’ve just come down from the isle of sky, the lassies shout as I walk by, “Donald where’s your troosers”
If you have stale bread or rolls run them under the cold tap and put in a hot oven. Come out of the oven like newly baked. Saves waste.
Oh that lobster made my mouth water! Delicious!
Fished Skye a while back and so want to return....! 50ft - or LESS seems to be the magic number when fishing there I found. Even if that means you're nearly kissing the cliffs! 🙈 Try a smaller lure too.... 'Match the hatch' as they say. If they're feeding on small stuff - give them a small lure. If feeding on bigger stuff - give them a bigger lure... 😎
I love these slices of life episodes!!❤
Another great video from Skye Life cottage. Loved the cows on the road, so cute! Glad Betty was okay 👍 The lobster lunch looked yummy 😋 I remember well having to go into Aberdeen each week for the messages 😂
Have a great week ❤
Pollock and ling. My favourite fish 😊😊
So lovely to see you have had sunshine!! Very glad that the calendars will be available again!😊
😂aargh! The skyelife poltergeist has moved the painting! 😂 gosh! What a rollercoaster episode - I was a bit scared for you when the engine failed away out there! 😱imagine calling Richard “ehhhh we are stuck”… 😂Another delightful busy week, well done Sarah… chores done & getting the messages - Nori was determined he was goin with you! 😂x
A grand vlog has always we do fear for you when out on the water but sure Willie knows how to keep safe love to all from the oldies 👍🤗👍🤗
Nori is so funny trying to go for a ride with you . The lobster salad looked delicious. 😺 X Have a good week

Another great busy day in Sky Life. Take care and thank you for sharing your adventures 👍🙏❤️
You have the most scenic drive home after picking up your shopping Sarah ❤ All those coos in the road did make me 😂😂
They really didn’t want to moooove! 😅
Thoroughly enjoyable!!
Lobster cocktail looked delicious a little stress moment of failing engine you both took so calmly well done
See you next week 💙💜🐕🐕
You live in a very lovely place, love the dogs and that salad looked so yummy!☺
Great video. Loved the errands and mouth is still watering over the lobster salads. Yum. Thank you so much. Sending love from America's North Coast
The doggies are so cute and funny!! They are beautiful pups.
This time of year, tattie fields around me are being cleared so an afternoon walk often results with a some of the spuds the picker missed. Road past the house is also fairly bumpy and the laden boxes will sometimes shed a few. Good for boosting the garden crop
Most of the apples are now off the trees, good stash of bramley chunks in the freezer and a cube tray of home grown grape juice to go with red and black currants
I do so much online shopping these days, that I was flabbergasted at the price of the sourdough bread. Lovely video as usual! ❤❤
such a wonderful couple and life. keep the videos coming. maryland usa
HA! When you did the “out-ro” I giggled and said, “oh - guess we will miss the painting today!!” Great job and soooo glad there was nothing major wrong with the boat.
Haha - can’t have you guys missing out on the painting!!
Nori loves Sarah...wants to be close to her at all times. Loved the video.

Arrived in Skye on Monday and the weather has been absolutely gorgeous. Making the most of it as rain due Friday. Scenery on the East coast today has been absolutely breathtaking ❤
I’m so glad to see that the painting made it into the out-tro. 😂 I look forward to seeing you each week. 👍
It was really in need of some vitamin D! 😅

Hi, Sarah and Willie. Your errand day is tiring, Sarah… I can only manage 2 or 3 stops per day🙃 I’m glad that you were able to fix Betty, Willie. That lobster salad lunch looked delicious! See you next week❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wonderful vlog. Such beautiful scenery. I enjoy watching so much. Ya’ll are so fun! Glad you got to get the boat out before winter. What a fun shopping trip, much better than my weekly trips to Wal-Mart in the US. Cheers from a happy viewer😊
You made my mouth water 😊
Blowing an absolute hoolie, gusting to 60mph. Thats probably a light breeze for skye but its ground Devon to a holt. Loved the video with sarahs messages, drama on the ocean , animal behaviour demonstrations , fishing lure advice and topped of with culinary demos. Nobody can say your channel doesnt deliver good value entertainment xx❤
Thanks so much!! Hopefully that wind dies down soon 🤞

Cracking vlog y’all so happy Betty the boat didn’t have a major issue. The shopping piece was cool nice to see every day life happenings.

Great video guys. Glad Betty's problem was not too serious. The cakes from that little honesty box look delicious. Hope you have a great week.

Loved watching the car negotiate through the cow maze.
Your creativity and Lobster cocktail are top notch, well done, made me so hungry...
Your print arrived really quickly Sarah, thank you. It's fab, I love it. I framed it and it's on my wall. Now back to watching the video.....😊 xx
Hi I found it funny that it took longer to get rid of the wine bottles than fill the bins 👍🤣
Has always not disappointed with your vlogs. Keep up the good work
Thanks so much!!
Hello from southern Louisiana, home of McIlhenny Tabasco sauce (so pleased to see you using THE best hot sauce in your lovely lobster salad). Thanks for the recipe!
Haha cheers! We love it 😋
I would Love to see more fishing content... 😊
Willie when are you bringing out a cookbook? Food looks delicious. 👌
Ditto
I agree. A cookbook from Willie, with Sarah illustrating would be wonderful. You could add stories on how the food was foraged.
Why does everyone want a cookbook from YT channels?
Great video, we moved from Isle of man to a 10 acre croft on Lewis 4 yrs ago, never looked back
