my late uncle left a duplicate of this truck to his son's....390 with a 4 speed....he put a dump bed on it....truck had way over 200k on the clock...he was a body man by trade....truck was never allowed to rust....will stay in the family forever
Now Tommy, you have a good idea of what to aim for. Keep saving the pennies, and soon, you'll be able to get moving on the High Boy project. Good little video, great looking F-250!
What a beauty! I remember a cousin bought one brand new in 1976 I believe. It was dark blue, 4x4 highboy like this one loaded XLT with all the chrome trim with a 400, 4 brl dual exhaust, with a granny low 5 speed. I remember going off road with him in a place called Miles Standish National Park. In Plymouth Massachusetts. We were in a marked trail that went around a water hole, near a stream. Of course he did not follow the marked trail through the stream, but instead though he could make it trough the deep water!! Well we did make it sort of! We were in the water, half way up the doors in about 4' of standing water, when the air intake that came out of the air cleaner went into the fender, which was under water! And the truck stalled! So I told him to open the rear winder sliders that were wide enough for him to climb out, over the cab and down the hood to stand mid thigh in the water on the grill guard. I pull the hood opener to pop the hood so he could open it. From in the cab I could see about the only thin above water under the hood beside the battery was the carb! So I told him to take the cover off the air cleaner and hang on! After a few turns the engine fired, I dropped it in granny low and we pulled right out onto the trail! He climbed down, I shut the engine off and opened the drivers door to let all the water out of the cab that almost covered the seat bottom! As I was wet up to my but! The bed was half full with water that came gushing out of the tailgate. We had a giant laugh, let e everything dry off for a while, smoked a dooby, then drove off with a great story!! All true! We spent the next day changing all the fluids in the truck in out fathers trucking company shop!! That was when Ford made real good trucks!
I wish I never sold my 77 F250 XLT 4x4 my Dad bought new for $7800. It had a 400 CUI what an awesome truck it was, was cool in high school driving it, my dad put dual glass packs on it and exhaust out in front of rear wheels. Wish I could share a photo of it.
RobShutt357 been a few trucks like this in my family....sad to say all but one are gone....my uncle's 74 4x4 is the only one left....it lives in snow country....
I just landed a 73 one owner from an old man. 97,000 original miles. Bed is perfect, whole truck straight. Even has air, ps, pb. I was surprised the ac was in the dash. My dad had a 74 he bought new and the ac was in the dash but control knobs were different, probably dealer air. In 78 dad bought a new one. My mom's dad bought the 74 and gave up his 56 F250. Thangs was poor down in Lousyana. Then I got the 74 in 88 and was in Panama during the Noriega deal, and they sold it. I would still be driving it.
A beautiful truck for sure . I work at the Ford plant where that was made in Louisville, KY, Louisville Assembly Plant, UAW Local 862. F Series pickups were made there from 1973-1980. We currently produce the Ford Escape . And it's not pronounced "Lewisville" , at least not by anyone from around there lol , it's pronounced " Loo-a-vul".
I've got a 1973 Highboy, went with the 79 power steering conversion and a 428FE. Mine also had the sunroof but I hate that part. Power brakes and power steering are really a must for those. I even converted to factory A/C and that was a real bear.
Kristopher Klassen Cmon now, I'm a die hard chevy fanboi but I can appreciate all trucks. Especially these soontobe classics. I'd take an old ford/dodge over any new off the lot Chevy.
TFLnow we all know that Ford did the same thing Chevy did with these FE motors....same block with different internals...made for different displacements
Do you still have this truck and would you part with it there's only 3 things I would do to this truck I would tint the windows I would put nerf bars on it instead of those steps And I would put a trailer hitch on it In the moldings that go along the doors the bed in the front fenders all the moldings that would make the truck look a little bit brighter do you wanna sell it let me know thank you for this video
if that was actually a 360 i would 100% change that out i mean reliable as all get out but power to MPG combined with hard starts on cold days is a pain
Michael Cuff Ford made both 360 and 390 big blocks. The only real way to tell them apart is to pull a spark plug and measure the stroke. The blocks and heads etc are identical
A proper truck. Crank windows, three pedals and the tank behind the seat. Love the Hi-Boy!
That's one beautiful looking 74 High Boy.

ford seriously needs a a F-250 hi boy package i bet it would sell like the power wagon!!!!
Hell yea!
Especially here in West Texas they’d sell real good
That's why they don't make them.
Beautiful truck. The metallic green paint looks sweet. My grandfather had one on the farm with a dump box on it, great truck.
Very nice, I'm actually going to get a '76 tomorrow. It's been sitting for a while so have to trailer it home, can't wait to get to work on it!

I'm glad someone has a power steering conversion for that truck! I'm gonna check into that for mine.

That's a beautiful truck. Love it.
Just bought a ‘74 high-boy, take possession next month.
Love the manual transmission!
Fantastic truck! Love that green.

That is a nice looking truck. But Rusty Boy is called Rusty Boy for a good reason. Nice job Tommy. Could back up a tad. Look liked a great event.

I like the title for this series.
sweet truck
I paid 7100.00 for a 1977 hi boy with 14/35 16.5 tires and wagon wheels and a Meyers power angle plow BRAND NEW IN 1977
No love for Fords but that is one of the best looking fords they ever produced
Kristopher Klassen Cmon now, I'm a die hard chevy fanboi but I can appreciate all trucks. Especially these soontobe classics. I'd take an old ford/dodge over any new off the lot Chevy.
I am a fan of American vehicles don't care really so much about if it is Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge, just so long as it isn't a gaw dang import.
I am a Dodge guy but I love the old Ford trucks.
Eric s im a dodge diesel guy. But i like all the old trucks.
Love this series 67-72 Ford pickups. Wanted 70 F100 (300ci 3 on the tree) but just out of my reach. Did have 72 F150 (thought 352? 4sp?).
Nice truck! (and I'm not a real Ford fan, but love the HB)
nice truck
Dang TFL invest in some polarized/neutral density filters for shooting in the direct sunlight 🕶
Any iea on the paint code for this truck? it's pretty awesome!
It would have been nice to see the truck further back than 1 foot away.
Can you not tell the engine by the serial number on the block? That's the way it works with small block chevys, it seems like everyone would.
+Nathan Plummer nope, not with Fords
TFLnow we all know that Ford did the same thing Chevy did with these FE motors....same block with different internals...made for different displacements
Some of those trucks came with a 351
The only thing that truck is missing is me behind the wheel.
Ford is the best two time all American American.
if that was actually a 360 i would 100% change that out i mean reliable as all get out but power to MPG combined with hard starts on cold days is a pain
I'll give u my wife for the night if I can drive that?
Interesting enough the term "Highboy" was never used by Ford Motor Co. It came from the enthusiasts.
Missing one thing , a 4 speed with first gear "granny" gear= no automatics.
Missing a fuel tank? Pre 76 Fords have slave cylinder power steering its not integrated into the box.
was the sunroof standard?
They didn't move the tanks out of the cab til 77
5 grand would Have bought that brand new
Wow the man owns the truck and doesn't even know what engine it was replaced with turn in your man card dude.
They didn't put 390s in 4x4s from the factory
Someday I will get a high boy and put a coyote in it. Whenever I can afford it obviously
you you make a reference to gearbox i own f 100 i like to change my name is sergio
Probably a 390 cid not 360. Never heard of a ford 360. Thought mopar made the 360. I know all 3 made a 400 cid.
Michael Cuff
Ford made both 360 and 390 big blocks. The only real way to tell them apart is to pull a spark plug and measure the stroke. The blocks and heads etc are identical
I have a 72 F250 with the 360 from the factory. It's a 5.9L
Ok, so, you are going by the VIN code, and the fact that the engine was opened to prove that it's a 360, why is this fool arguing!?
Calling it a 360? Does this guy know he could simply but a rod down the spark plug hose an easily see if its a 390 or 360?
4X4's never came with 390's.
So basically this owner just bought it and didn’t do any of the work.
Does No good to stick the mic right on the exaust. Sounds like shit.
