I was riding to school every day and I noticed a 1hdt 80 series sitting in the front yard with grass up to the door handles. I wrote a letter to the owner and left it in the letter box he called me a month later. Great bloke ended up picking it up for 18,000 in March 2022 It’s grandpa spec, 315,000 and it brings a smile on my face every day. It’s an absolute dream to drive. Hey Shauno, Awesome new rig mate, looks well taken care of. The best second hand bargain that I have ever come across for a 4WD was when I met my girlfriend, her grandparents had a 1995 Toyota Hilux 2.4L 22R petrol dual cab solid axel front and rear which I was eventually lucky enough to purchase off them after her grandfather unfortunetly passed away. They originally purchased it new from Kalamunda Toyota in the Perth Hills area and it was never taken off road just used as the family car that could carry the horses hay bales in the back and eventually all the grand kids learned how to drive in it. I am now the second owner and I purchased it for what they had it insured for, 3 grand with 160,000Ks on the clock, it has all the original rego papers, service manuals, receipts and log books. It came stock with leather seats and didn’t have a single after market modification but the alloy bull bar with brush bars and side steps that it came with, still has the AM radio without even a tape deck in it haha but It is daily driven and my family and I have made many great memories in it and has grown to be such a sentimental vehicle both for my girlfriend growing up with it and myself having gained 4WD skills and the confidence to get to those special places as it continues to surprise us with its capabilities. I was also born In 1995 so I feel as if we are ageing together :) Cheers for the great efforts you guys go to for the 4WD community, I look forward to the future adventures and info you guys share with us.

Back in 2008 I picked up a 1984 Rx-7 Series 3 13B for just $1000. My dad and I rebuilt the engine (multiple times), I had to learn how to drive stick (and rotary) and in the end after plenty of good times we sent it on her way 5 years later for a cool profit and heaps of memories. Aww geez! Rub it in.. what a specimen.. The best deal I ever got was an old land cruiser my friend's dad was talking about at a barbecue. I really wanted a 4wd but I knew I should get a truck and when he mentioned that he bought it as a project but didn't have time to fix it and none of his kids were interested in Toyota's. I mentioned that I was on a tight budget and he said he'd make me a deal. He also noted it wasn't running but he would help me get it going. After some crazy stories about his adventures in the oil fields in Africa I set up a time to go look at it.
What on earth?! It was a land cruiser truck! A 1967 fj45.. $1000, more money for parts and we got old L.C. on the road. 29 years later it's sitting in my barn waiting for a restoration, no real fault of its own aside from neglect and a busy life..

The Mrs and I are currently on our first road trip at Airlie beach from tweed heads, with a few days at Fraser Island on the way. We’re happy with the comfort on the highway to the inland tracks of Fraser. It hands down beats the Nissan navara it replaced in all aspects.

I think I got my 105 pretty right. Was looking for an 80 back in 2006 and couldn't find what I was looking for. Then I saw my 105 for sale, it was 3 years old, done very little off road and only 83k on it.
An older guy had it and did a lot of awesome mods, mostly arb and tough dog 4 inch lift with a set of brand new 35 inch claws to match. At 40k, I couldn't go past it.
I still have it, although it's got 440k on it now and doesn't miss a beat. Awesome rig

Hey Shauno your zeal is contagious👍. My best bargain was an 1968 FJ40 3f 4 inch lift 33x12.5 $3500 sort of, Maxiss razors. It went like this: A mate was getting married and was told he wouldn't be allowed to keep the FJ40!!! So I put my hand up and he said $3500 and it's yours as he wiped his tears🥺. I had a job that I didn't have time.e to do and was going to let it go but then thought about it for a split second 🤔, I said to my gutted mate he can do the job and keep the profits which were around $3500 he agreed🤙so it really cost me $0😁. He asked me if his missis changed her mined later could he buy it back, I just replied maaaaaate!

My wife and I purchased a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser from a used car dealership. It was 12th year wedding gift. We saw the add on the internet, made a phone call to ask a few questions then we drove 160 miles to buy it.
The FJ Cruiser had absolutely no rust was obviously garage kept and looks to have never been off pavement. Everything functions perfectly. And not a drop of any kind of oil or fluid leaks.
I am truly grateful to have a clean title to this rig.
But more importantly I am blessed with a wonderful loving Wife that puts up with me 🙂.
You really got a great Land Cruiser there👍🏻

I recently just picked up a single owner 1982 FJ60 with only 127 000ks on the clock. A real barn find, as the paint and interior looked like it just came off the show room floor. Well after I cleaned off 2” of barn dust off it (hadn’t been driven for 12 years). The best part is it is truly grandpa spec with every fuel and service receipt from 1982, and he only wanted $5k for it.
It was a real poster for Toyota reliability, stuck a new battery in it to see if it would kick over and get oil pressure, and she started second crank.

I got and absolute ball tearer 4 years ago today. Driving through country Vic and a grandpa 1990 gq patrol/ford maverick TD42 diesel parked out the front of a farm. 94 year old fellow bought it new, no dents or paint fade, full service books and a tonne of receipts. Was garaged every night from new, he out house carpet over the floor and sheepskin seat covers and the original tape deck and got it for $4300 with a year rego and RWC.
Took it to my mechanic and he nearly fell over lol. I felt like I robbed him but I’m saying that I’d never sell it and it’s in great hands and it’s my daily drive. Now it’s done 535’000km and is as quiet as it would have been new and gets serviced ever 5000 on the dot and for it’s birthday I’m getting it a turbo to help it up the hills. Man I love this thing and so pumped I drove past it that day as I’d never be able to afford one at what they are actually worth. Great find on yours and all the other guys that have commented. Still had the old racv sticker on the window lol

I paid 400.00 dollars for it originally from a friend who just loved it but he had too many vehicles. That thing my wife and son drove for years until it got parked with multiple issues for 4+ years behind the garage. I snagged up a 2000 4runnner (I believe a Prado for you chaps) in the limited series. I am the 6th owner of the car and it has been registered in more than 4 states across the USA. This model has 2wd, awd, 4h, and 4L with e-locker stacked on top. It is rust free and the paint out mirrors even some newer cars; though my off-road badges of honor are starting to deepen. It has about 216,000 miles or 347,000 km, not bad for a gas truck. I picked it up from southern USA a year ago and have been slowly resto modding it to be a solid rig.

I’m from the United States and when I was 17 (3 years ago) I sold my hunk of garbage Jeep for 6500 bucks. Did some craigslist surfing and came across a 1995 Toyota 4Runner (our version of the Hilux surf) for 6000 dollars. Ticked all the boxes. 5 speed manual, ridiculously clean paint, and 102,000 miles. As soon as I bought it the Toyota boom started in the United States and finding any Toyota that was clean for under 10,000-12,000 dollars is unheard of. Just did a head gasket but I have no plans of ever selling it. Something about an old Toyota!

We found a high-roof 1988 HJ61 with over half a million km about an hour's drive out of Brissy and when we heard it running there was no way we were going to leave it there especially for the price $4200! Bugger me dead, a month later another one (low roof, 1986) popped up not far from home for $4800 with rego. Couldn't leave it there, minimal rust and we bought it off the original owners! My very first car was a 2003 Toyota RAV4, this is no full 4wd but I took that thing everywhere and it did the job. It costed me $2800 and had 150,000 roughly on the clock, although it was covered in red dirt it ran perfectly, full service, manuals, warranties, and even had the original head unit inside. Had a genuine Toyota alloy bar with side steps and toe ball, along with a set of hella spotties and still had the hood protector and sun visors on the window. Never had an issue with that car and even took it 4 wheel driving occasionally, impressing my self and my mates!
