I played in a local Hollywood Sunset Strip band called Reinkus Tide and Jose modified a 72’ Marshall 50 watt for me and a 1982 100 watt Laney and a 1974 100 watt Marshall and because I lived close he would have me come by and play the amps he was working on including Ed’s Holy Grail, George Lynch’s amp, Jake E Lees amp , Joe Holmes amp , Warren Di Martini and Robin Crosby’s Amps , John Sykes Amp, Angus Young’s amp, Steve Stevens amp ,Steve Vais amp and the list goes on to include even local players amps that he would mod and want to test run . I was over there 3 - 4 times a week while he worked on the amps and he would have me play, I would do this before our band practices and I became very close to Jose for many years in his ARRCO Electronics Shop on Van Nuys Blvd in Sherman Oaks next to World Modeling Agency before he moved into his home garage
@ It was great and it started in about 1985 when I was 21 -ish and went on for a few years , but I would not really call it a gig as there was no pay, but I didn’t want that anyway as playing through all those modded amps for me was pay enough and I kind of did it as a favor when he asked. He was a really sweet guy and did amazing work on my amps and gave me a price break on a lot of it because he knew I was a broke kid guitar player so I was more than happy to help out anyway I could when asked. As far as if he ever asked my opinion? All of the amps he allowed me to play through or told me to play through sounded amazing and I would tell him so, but I would’ve never have given my opinion because he was the wizard of amps and all small electronics in that small shop in Sherman Oaks . All of the amps that I played through he would crank to 10 and were so unbelievably loud that they initially scared me upon striking the first chord on Ed’s Holy Grail amp ,Mick Mars amp and Angus Young’s amp that it made my fillings in my teeth vibrate . Sometimes after I had played for a while and rolled the volume off to shut it down he would more times than not to tell me to keep playing. I enjoyed those times hanging out with Jose as he had a hilarious sense of humor and a genuinely nice dude, I loved that guy.
Such an amazing episode! What a true honor for the family to have an official release of an amp for Jose. He was a pioneer and an absolute legend. Personally, I don't know if I would be able to afford one, although for those who can, that will be one legendary amplifier.
Very cool info about Jose! Thanks for coming on and sharing about him, Marisol. I agree with Dave about the shows and the phones. I'd rather hear a DLR having a bad day and actually doing it than someone miming to a track. Cool that this amp is coming out and kudos to Dave for giving back to the family rather than just trying to cash in on Jose's name.
I love that it's thru the custom shop, kinda like actually getting a Jose mod, and you kinda have to be a bit "in the know", tone seeking, and wait for it do be created.
Hmmm...how about printing up the great stickers and selling them on line? The ones your father put inside amps after working on them? I think that would be cool.
It would be really cool if you could get Damon Johnson on the show. Also another awesome guest would be Alex Skolnik from testament. And if you could get Chris Degarmo from queensryche, that would be a huge one. Not sure if he would do it since he really isnt in the music scene anymore. I would love to hear about the recording of Empire. I will shut up now lol.
Would be great to see the plastic switches from the RUNT 50 on the Arrendondo amp, with white piping....true late 70's Marshall look, when it all started! Marshall won't do it, on top of all their current issues....
Awesome show, have to say Leo Fender didn't play a instrument or a guitar for that matter. You could say he is the father of the guitar amp, and copied and expanded the design 🎉 amen Hallelujah
not seeing this in real time, but wasn't Fade to Black inspired by James losing his Jose modded marshall? It sounded so good when he lost it he contemplated suicide lol, maybe a little over dramatic but quite a compliment lol
I don't own a real amp and have never owned an electric guitar but my passion for amps led me to Jose, when I was interested in the amps of my favorite bands I kept hearing Jose, Jose Marshall, Jose modded Marshall and I thought who the hell is this Jose, a Google search gives me Dominican former professional baseball relief pitcher. After a little searching I found out that this is Jose Arredondo, who worked for VOX and Ampeg, a nice bald man with glasses and I was upset to hear that he is no longer with us. The more I looked into his work the more I wanted people to pay him the respect he deserves and make an official tribute. I ate all my friend's brains two months ago that I want Jose family to properly honor him, to make a collab with some famous modder and now it happened and I can't believe it! God bless Marisol Arredondo for her actions and for the fact that she knows what kind of person her father really was! By the way, there was a forum thread on thegearpage called - Jose Arredondo... anyone know anything about him? And there was a person there who claimed that she is Jose's granddaughter and her father is Omar. Is it true, does he really have a granddaughter?
Dave Friedman is a King amongst Men. The guy is doing everything right in the Amp world and his followers are many and ever growing. When the dust settles Ill wager Friedman becomes more popular than Marshall and Mesa in the High Quality and Killer Tube amp universe.
Dave - PLEASE - and hopefully its not to late If you going to put Jose name on something - Leave the "issues" in. Don't "FIX" anything Please make this tribute amp as it should be (warts and all). IF someone wants the "fixes" there are heaps of other amps to chose from.

What a great gig! - Did Jose ask you for your thoughts? or was it simply a test drive to ensure they worked?

@@vonzombo2354 Got it - thanks for the reply - awesome story
Awesome episode and what a collaboration! Kudos to Dave for doing it right (with the family). Class act for sure.
Congrats for the collaboration, Dave!
On another note, are you guys considering to have Randall Smith as a guest soon? Thanks!
Proving once again that you two are great guys. All the best to you and Marisol!

Thank you guys for making this happen!! Awesome show
Sweet show guys. 👍🏻
I have a daughter about her age, so it tugged on my heart strings a little ❤
✌🏻

Great show!! What a great tribute! You're the man Dave!
Great episode.
Cool show. Just ordered some Gotoh locking tuners through the link for Thomann

Steppenwolf was the very first Band i liked as a kid. I heard them on the radio in 1972 .
i'd love to see synergy release a jose inspired module. would the brown eye get that sound?
I like the classic gold front w/gold knobs.
Exciting!,
Sunset legend.

Suggest a traditional layout with a colour twist of an anodized backplate. Something to stand out from the norm e.g.purpled titanium
@53:10 OH DEAR LORD !!
You can do it Pete,
@Marc, sometimes people want a 50 watt version for the smaller form factor and less tubes to deal with. It’s not always about volume.
True 👍
Hmmm...how about printing up the great stickers and selling them on line? The ones your father put inside amps after working on them? I think that would be cool.
Missed the live cast by minutes!
As if the plex wasn’t enough, this one is going to bankrupt me 😂
Mick Sweda has a great tone
Those amps will sell out in less than 24 hours.
Black panel plus gold

Have you guys had Ola on the show ?
Would love to see that.
Not yet. Maybe soon
@@tone-talk At the time of NAMM Ola will be in Europe on tour. I would like him to be there at NAMM with you guys.
